Saw the scene, wanted to do this in the perspective of Sarabi. I mean she lost her mate and thought she lost her son, all on the same day. Talk about tragic and heartbreaking.
I own nothing. The Lion King and all its content belong to Disney. I don't own the cover image either.
Enjoy the story!
Her fur stood on end with worry. It was nightfall, the moon was shining up in the sky, yet still no sign of them. She and the others were waiting for them to return.
She was pacing back and forth, worriedly waiting their arrival. It was taking too long. Unless the two had gotten distracted and had just realized how late it was, there was no reason why they should've been late.
Her ears pricked up at the sound of footsteps approaching. Her head swung down to the base of Pride Rock where, to her disappointment, her brother-in-law was approaching. Next thing she knew, she and the other members of the pride were being called down to the bottom for some important news he had said.
As Scar relayed the tragic news, Sarabi felt her heart break painfully in her chest. It was as if someone had thrust a paw past her ribs, clutched onto her heart and was squeezing hard. Her head dipped low and her eyes squeezed tightly as tears immediately built up behind them and slipped past her eyelids and turned into streams running down her cheeks. Zazu, bless his heart, placed a wing on her paw as a comforting gesture, though she was beyond the ability of accepting any right now.
Her husband and son were gone. Gone. Her beloved mate and energetic, loving son were dead. Taken up to the Great Kings of the Past above, away from her ever able to reach them. Her body shook as she weeped along with her fellow pride sisters for the death of their king and prince.
Scar was king now, she and everyone else knew that, but he sure seemed exceedingly rude and inconsiderate by announcing it after his words of his brother and nephew. Not only that, he had announced his first decree as king that night. His seemed to shift completely from mournful to proud of his now position instantly. It was just so wrong in her opinion, it wasn't right that he just accepted this responsibility with the position without this longer time of grieving.
It was too much for her to bear. She rushed past her pride sisters, past the hyenas coming up to Pride Rock, past Scar and into the den. She nearly stumbled through darkness blindly before she came to the furthest corner from the entrance to the cave. She pressed her back against the wall and fell to her feet. Her paws wrapped around her face as her heart broke and a torrent of liquid sadness and grief rushed forward. The shadows provided protection from those who could see her. She allowed it to hide her as she sobbed.
All that she had then, all that she had bonded with and loved was dead.
I'm disappointed that only Nala was the only member of the pride to cry for the death of the royals and that we didn't see too much of them grieving the loss of them. Sarabi should had gotten the most screentime for the loss of the both of them. Plus I think that they should had been the least bit suspicious that Scar didn't show too much sympathy to the death of his brother and son. It seemed to quick that he said "To me it was a personal loss" before "So it is with a heavy heart that I assume the throne." I mean really, come on! It's like so frightening that they didn't get the least bit angry or confused that he just changes from grieving the death of his family to instantly going to the position that he was after Simba to receive.
Anyways, aside from my rant, thanks for checking out my story and reading. Please leave a review and give me your opinion of what you thought about this scene. Sincerely, v.t.7
