The lights from the street lamps danced in the gentle flowing water of the Seine. It almost looked as though they were fireflies, dancing back and forth in their own untouchable world.

The sound of beeping brought Chat's attention back to the girl standing in front of him. Her midnight blue hair seemed to reflect the light from the street lamps too, making her look angelic. That was the third beep since Ladybug used her lucky charm. Chat knew his own ring would force them apart too, but he didn't want to go and be far away from Ladybug and the Seine and the way the air felt around them, like it was drawing him close towards her.

Ladybug stared at her partner. He was looking at her, but at the same time, he wasn't. His thoughts were somewhere else, and Ladybug was feeling a little too tired to find out. "I think it's time for us to go," she said quietly, not wanting to startle Chat.

Bright green eyes focused on her, slowly, then finally, a smile followed. It was a proper smile, not one of those grins or smirks that was usually plastered on the lower half of his face. "We still have three minutes together."

"Two," sighed Ladybug, rolling her eyes, even though a small smile tugged at the corners of her lips. Chat took careful steps towards her, a way of questioning whether he could enter her own personal bubble. She said nothing as she stared up at him. Ladybug didn't mind their proximity. It was familiar, comforting even, because Chat was safe and warm, so warm that she could feel the heat resonating from his body if he stood close enough.

When only a breath separated them, Chat put his hands on Ladybug's shoulders, ignoring the beeping of his ring. "It's a beautiful night," he whispered. "Too beautiful for us to say goodnight so soon. Too beautiful for me to leave you just yet."

Ladybug blushed. She was embarrassed at the cheesiness and forwardness of Chat's words, yet, she hoped he wouldn't stop. But he was quiet for a long time. They only stared into each other's eyes, trying to piece together the world that lies behind them. It was only when the fourth beeping of Ladybug's earrings pierced the silence that the spell broke, and they jerked slightly apart from one another. Chat had kept his hands on Ladybug's shoulders and he drew her closer once they got over the sudden shock. Bringing his forehead down to touch hers, he laughed gently. Ladybug let out a tiny and shaky laugh and closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of Chat's skin pressing against hers.

"Now it's time for us to part," he whispered again, his voice deep, and just a quiet breath that tickled Ladybug's nose. "Goodnight, my lady."

As silent as a cat stalking its prey, Chat disappeared into the night. Ladybug, with her eyes still shut tightly, stood where she was, till the final beeping of her earrings went off. In a flash of pink, Marinette stood, looking forlorn and confused at the cold that engulfed her the moment Chat pulled away.
