Greetings reader! Before you start reading this Fanfiction, I would like to give you some basic information about the characters that will appear in this story. I will only cover the characters that aren't canon to the KanColle universe, seeing that it would be rather pointless to write down the complete character biography of the fleetgirls, seeing that there is a complete Wiki page dedicated to this very cause.

Name: Comet

Occupation: Railway Tugboat

Age: ? (Looks like a 16 year old teenager)

Height: 178cm

Eye colour: blue

Hair colour: brown, almost black

History: Build to the specifications of the railway tugboat 'Invincible', Comet worked the first few years of his lives in New York, before being sold to a tugboat fleet in Bigg City in Washington (state). Sunk during the Siege of Bigg City by the IJN during WW2, he was reincarnated as a living tugboat, helping to rebuild the city's port, together with his fellow living tugboats there. After the decline of the port in Bigg City, he was sold to captain Walters, who, along with the other two new crew members, two twin switchers by the name of Mac and Rock, we're brought to Japan, starting the 'Steam Tugs' tugboat fleet.

Description: A kind, quick witted and sometimes cheeky young tugboat, with high work ethics and a love for railway equipment. At 178cm of height, he is one of the taller tugboats in the fleet, reflecting the need for a raised wheelhouse that railway tugs needed in order for their crews to look over the stored railway equipment on their barges. His messy brown, almost black hair is hidden underneath his blue flat cap, which usually is covered by a slight layer of soot. His usual attire consists of a blue jacket over a white shirt or T-shirt, dark blue jeans with his name stitched into the fabric on is left side and black work boots with steel caps, in order to prevent any injuries in case of something being dropped onto his feet. This is usually refrained to as the standard outfit of the tugboats under captain Walters fleet, which he rarely drops, only switching for a black, button up shirt and black pants on very special occasions.

Relationships: Mac/Rock (caretaker; older brother figure), John Bull (brother figure), Boomer (brother figure), Churchill (strict father figure), Edwin (wise grandfather figure), Prometheus (understanding father figure), captain Walters (superior officer, highly respected person), Red Stacks (rivals), Rebecca (equal, sister figure), Fubuki (love interest)

Outfit: standard railway tugboat outfit (no default weaponary, several attachment points for ropes, rope holder, shock absorber, high power steam engine, water hose for firefighting duties, radio headset)

Names: Mac and Rock

Occupation: Harbor switchers

Age: ? (Looking like 12 year old boys)

Height: 157cm (both)

Eye colour: green (both)

Hair colour: black (both)

History: built to the specifications of the switcher tugboat 'Graygarth', both Mac and Rock started work as switchers on the outskirts of Bigg City and further up the river. Both of them were destroyed beyond repair in the fire following the Siege of Bigg City, being reincarnated as living tugboats, and helping in fixing the war damages. During their time of work along the river, both developed certain specific traits, with Mac being a protégés at digging, while Rock was skilled at climbing trees of all kinds. With the increasing workload of transporting logs up and down the river, the two tugs were surpassed by larger tugboats and put up for sale, being bought by captain Walters, who brought the two of them, and their new colleague Comet to Japan, where they quickly started to gain contracts, while the rest of their fleet was still on the way towards Japan.

Description: Being born as twins, their characters are in several places identical. They are both friendly, helpful tugboats, but also very cheeky, although Rock is better at hiding that fact. Mac is often seen as the more emotional of the two, showing directly how he feels about certain matters, while Rock is the more calm and collected one of the two, keeping more to himself and rarely showing any emotions. Their behaviour is mirrored in their hairstyle, with Mac having messy, unkempt black hair, often hidden under his blue flat cap, often pulled to an angle, and Rock having his hair combed neatly to one side, and tucked underneath his own cap, which rests perfectly straight on his head at all times. Both wear the standard attire of the 'Steam Tugs' fleet, with the only difference being that Macs name was sewed into his left trouser leg, and Rocks into his right one, in order to prevent any mistakes being made when seeing them at a distance.

Relationships: Comet (older brother figure), John Bull (older brother figure), Boomer (older brother figure), Churchill (strict father figure, target of most pranks within the fleet), Edwin (wise grandfather figure, voice of reason), Prometheus (understanding father figure), captain Walters (superior officer, highly respected person), Red Stacks (rivals), Rebecca (older sister figure), Akatsuki (Macs love interest), Hibiki (Rocks love interest)

Outfit: standard switcher tugboat outfit (no default weaponary, several attachment points for ropes, rope holder, low power steam engine, radio headset)

Name: John Bull

Occupation: Harbor tugboat

Age: ? (Looks like a 38 year old man)

Height: 170cm

Eye colour: grey

Hair colour: dirty blond

History: build in Scotland, John Bull was handed over from fleet to fleet, working at several ports, including Edinburgh, Aberdeen and even a temporary assignment to Scapa Flow. It was there that he got sunk by a German submarine during WW2, getting reincarnated into a living tugboat and returning to work in the same naval port for a few further months. During that time, he prevented the sinking of the HSM Prince of Wales, making him a local celebrity within the naval ranks, although he never talks about it, seeing that it was classified information until a few years prior to the events in this story. After the war, he was replaced by a diesel tugboat and sold to captain Walters, travelling first to Southampton docks, where he joined up with the already gathered crew of his fleet, before embarking on their journey to Japan, where the first three tugboats of their fleet had already set up operations.

Description: Hailing from Scotland, Bull reflects this with his Scottish accent and sometimes shortened temper. Most of the time, he is calm and laid back, but if the situation involves the Red Stacks or logging operations, he can become a strict and brash tug. Having witnessed a child being crushed by a falling tree back in his time in Scorland, Bull has gained a high respect for logging operations, and is especially keen on making sure that both Mac and Rock are constantly supervised by a competent member of their fleet during such operations (oftentimes, he takes over these duties himself). Fitting to his job, he is rather strongly built, which resulted in plenty of ripped shirts during the early days of their fleet, thanks to a misunderstanding during the ordering of their uniforms. He usually is seen covered in coal dust, thanks to his usual workplace being at the coaling plant, and even after several showers, most of the dust would still stick on him, making others believe that his blond hair is actually black. He never worries about his appearance though, often seen unshaven, as he has a 'usefulness before cleanliness' attitude, much to the displeasure of Churchill. Although he is mostly seen working, his greatest passion is cooking, being the resident cook for the 'Steam Tugs' fleet.

Relationships: Comet (younger brother figure), Mac/Rock (younger brother figure), Boomer (close brother figure), Churchill (older brother figure, main cause of arguments), Edwin (grandfather figure, voice of wisdom and reason), Prometheus (older brother figure, voice of the fleet), captain Walters (superior officer), Red Stacks (rivals), Rebecca (younger sister figure)

Outfit: standard harbor tugboat outfit (no default weaponary, several attachment points for ropes, rope holder, medium power steam engine, water hose for firefighting duties, radio headset)

Name: Boomer

Occupation: Harbor tugboat

Age: ? (Looks like a 35 year old man)

Height: 172cm

Eye colour: brown

Hair colour: light brown

History: build to the exact same specifications as John Bull, Boomer had been working most of his life in Liverpool, until an unfortunate row of events ended up with him being used as a target for a naval exercise. He was reincarnated as a living tugboat, however, he suffered from memory loss, and ended up mistaking and mixing up his orders. Being fed up with him, Boomers owner put him up for sale, or, if nobody would come to but him, release him from his duties and scrap his outfit. Thankfully, he was bought by captain Walters, who gave him some much needed repairs and a new paintjob and ordered him to Southampton docks, where he met up with John Bull, Churchill, Edwin and Prometheus, before setting sail for Japan.

Description: A kind and sometimes naïve tug, Boomer is a good friend, who values family above all, and tries to make sure that his family stays together. He is rather forgetful, which sometimes causes trouble for their fleet, but he always manages to get things right again. He is also one of the strongest tugs in their fleet, often being issued to the hardest of duties. Handsome looking, he is often the subject of attraction for several fleetgirls, however, he is oblivious towards their actions. He is mostly found on the garbage rounds throughout the port, which results in plenty of teasing from other the Red Stacks and members of his own fleet, but he is used to it by now, and keeps on smiling as he works these duties.

Relationships: Comet (younger brother figure), Mac/Rock (younger brother figures), John Bull (close brother figure), Churchill (strict brother figure, sometimes reason of confusion), Edwin (wise grandfather figure, first to ask in case of confusion), Prometheus (older brother figure), captain Walters (superior officer), Red Stacks (rivals), Rebecca (younger sister figure)

Outfit: standard harbor tug outfit

Name: Churchill

Occupation: Ocean going tugboat

Age: ? (Looks like a 29 year old man)

Height: 185cm

Eye colour: blue

Hair colour: light brown, turning grey

History: built together with his brothers Hercules and Prometheus by Harlem and Wolff in Belfast, the three tugs were early on separated, with Hercules being sold to the 'Star' tug fleet, and the remaining two working most of their life out of Galway into the Atlantic ocean. During WW2, while escorting several supply ships in a convoy into the port, they and the convoy were attacked by several U-boats, getting sunk in the process. Being reincarnated as living tugboats, both brothers served their country beyond the end of the war, continuing to bring in goods vessels and ocean liners until they needed a major overhaul, something their fleet owner wouldn't spent on, rather replacing them with modern diesel tugboats and selling them to a scrap merchant in Barry, South Wales. Rather than being relieved of their outfits though, they were stored there, with both brothers working several months there, working for Dai Woodham as accountants, until they were finally bought by captain Walters and giving their outfits a major restauration/refurbishment, before sending them both to Southampton, and further onwards to Japan.

Description: Churchill, true to his name, is the embodiment of the British stereotype. Tall, lean, well mannered and collected, Churchill works hard to make sure that his fleets appearance in the public eye won't suffer. He is cleanly shaved and his hair looking always combed back, often hidden under a top hat which he protects with his live. A monocle in front of his left eye completes the appearance of a British gentleman. However, his appearance is also his greatest weakness. He is often teased by his fleet members, mostly Mac and Rock, whenever he is issued a job that would leave him dirty. Most of the time, he gets ordered to take over Comets duties, whenever the railway tug is unavailable, much to the dismay of the ocean going tug, seeing that he usually has to work with the cheeky twins Franklin and Edward Chapin.

Relationships: Comet (younger brother figure), Mac/Rock (younger brother figures), John Bull (brother figure, reason of irritation in matters of cleanliness), Boomer (brother figure, reason of irritation in most other matters), Edwin (wise grandfather figure, recipient of most complaints), Prometheus (close brother figure), captain Walters (superior officer), Red Stacks (rivals), Rebecca (younger sister figure)

Outfit: standard ocean going tugboat outfit (no default weaponary, several attachment points for ropes, rope holder, high power steam engine, water hose for firefighting duties, medical equipment for first aid, radio headset)

Name: Edwin

Occupation: Harbor tugboat, fleet supervisor

Age: ? (Looks like a 58 year old man)

Height: 168cm

Eye colour: amber

Hair colour: grey

History: Built somewhere around the mid 19th century, he worked most of his time in Plymouth harbor, where he worked as a harbor tug, being replaced from most of the harder duties by screw powered tugs, before being quietly scrapped during WW1. However, while most stories for tugboats ended at this, Edwin got reincarnated as one of the first living tugboats in existence, working for several further decades and throughout WW2, until being retired once more, the port authorities acknowledging his age and experience, giving him a place to spend his retirement at the harbor. However, seeing that he was rotting away at the harbor without any work, he requested to be put up for sale, finding a buyer after a long time in captain Walters, who understood the experienced tugboat, and offered him a job as fleet supervisor in his newly established fleet. After getting restored into working order, Edwin set sail towards Southampton, where he met his new work colleagues, and set off towards Japan.

Description: The oldest and wisest of the 'Steam Tugs', Edwin is a humble and calm soul, who aims to keep their fleet as efficient as possible. His age has always been the reason for complaints and teasing from both fellow tugboats, as well as navy officials, who would rather see him replaced or retired, but captain Walters persistence upon keeping him in active service has assured his survival as one of the last paddle steam tugs still in active service. Mostly working on lighter duties and secretary work, Edwin has been the right hand of captain Walters ever since the beginning of their fleet. His body already carved by time, his mind is still as young as it used to be, being the main source of advice in troublesome situations. His outfit is the same as for all the other tugs of captain Walters fleet, with the exception of his old straw hat, which he never takes off.

Relationships: Comet (son figure), Mac/Rock (grandchildren figures), John Bull (younger brother figure), Boomer (younger brother figure), Churchill (younger brother figure, ), Prometheus (younger brother figure), captain Walters (superior officer), Red Stacks (rivals), Rebecca (daughter figure)

Outfit: paddle steamer harbor tugboat outfit (no default weaponary, several attachment points for ropes, rope holder, low power steam engine, portable radio station, medical equipment for first aid)

Name: Prometheus

Occupation: Ocean going tugboat

Age: ? (Looks like a 29 year old man)

Height: 186cm

Eye colour: blue

Hair colour: black

History: See Churchills history

Description: Tall, lean, always spotless and hiding his eyes behind a pair of shades, Prometheus, like his brother, is a real gentleman, in every meaning of the word. Working mostly outside of the port on the oceans, he is rarely seen with his colleagues, but is nonetheless proud of being a 'Steam Tugs member. He is the voice of the fleet, always finding the right words for the occasion, and helps Edwin out in being a second voice or reason for the fleet. After learning that their brother Hercules was destroyed during the Siege of Bigg City in the second world war, the ocean going tug found himself feeling empty for a long time afterwards, this feeling remaining largely intact until he meet Allison, a young lightship who, together with her sister Lilly, worked in Bigg City port before and during WW2, sharing stories about her sister and the fondness between her and Hercules. The time they spent, talking about their lost siblings, helped them to form a strong bond between each other, which developed into love later on. Their relationship has been kept in secret until now though, as wartime regulations forbade them from being together (even though that didn't stopped them from seeing each other while out in the estuary of the port). Prometheus has the rare honour of being one of the few steam tugboats that have gained the respect of the Red Stacks, being the, quoting them "only real threat coming from these steam powered relics", proofing them right in having a spotless record of no incidents during his duties whatsoever.

Relationships: Comet (younger brother figure), Mac/Rock (younger brother figures), John Bull (younger brother figure), Boomer (younger brother figure), Churchill (close brother figure), Edwin (wise grandfather figure), captain Walters (superior officer), Red Stacks (mutual rivals), Rebecca (younger sister figure), Allison lightship (girlfriend and lover)

Outfit: standard ocean going tugboat outfit

Name: John Walters

Occupation: captain of the 'Steam Tugs' tugboat fleet

Age: 59 years old

Height: 176cm

Eye colour: dark green

Hair colour: deep brown, turning grey

History: born in the US state of Washington, in the large harbor town of Bigg City, a young John Walters started working as a tugboat skipper under one John Starr, captain and owner of the Star tugs fleet. Surviving the siege on the town, he was hit with the news that most of the fleets tugboats had been destroyed, and that captain Starr had been killed during the bombardment of the harbor. When he heard about the reincarnated tugboats, he started collecting all information about them, and with that, started his dream of setting up a whole fleet of these tugboats. Spending years of hard work, saving money at every place possible, and searching far and wide for reincarnated tugboats, he finally bought and rescued enough tugboats to set up operations at a port in Japan, having read that it was to undergo major redevelopment and would be in need of a new, permanent tugboat fleet to serve the water based industries.

Description: A stern but fair leader, captain Walters learned from his old friend and mentor John Starr the ways of handling a tugboat fleet. Having studied the natural phenomenon of reincarnated tugboat souls in human vessels since the very first time he heard of them, he knows just how to handle a large fleet of such a colourful ensemble of characters. He is also a cunning businessman, knowing how to gain a contract for his fleet. Beisdes the business aspect of his fleet, he also holds his tugs in high regards, seeing them as somewhat of his children, always making sure that their little 'family' is kept intact, especially in matters of heavy injuries or major rebuilds that had in the past involved Edwin and Boomer. In order for him to stand out within his fleet, he wears a white navy jacket above his white shirt, instead of the usual blue one, with his rank insignias displayed on both shoulders, as well as wearing a blue officers hat.

Relationships: Steam Tugs fleet (leader, children figures), Red Stacks fleet (rivaling fleet), captain Archibald Red (rival), admiral (superior officer)

Name: Archibald Red

Occupation: captain of the Red Stacks tugboat fleet

Age: 51 years old

Height: 173cm

Eye colour: red

Hair colour: dark red

History: Not much is known about captain Archibald Red. All that is known from his past is that he previously operated with his fleet in Singapore, before heading for Japan and becoming the rivals of the Steam Tugs within the port. Most of the time (whenever he isn't watching his tugs causing trouble for their steam powered comrades) he is seen bickering with captain Walters about everything that is currently the topic between the two of them, causing many to believe that they have known each other much longer than they claim.

Description: Known as a devious and cunning man, Archibald Red works as the efficient leader of the 'Red Stacks' fleet, giving the foolish group of diesel tugs at least some sort of order. Dressed in an all red business suit and his hair gelled back, his appearance is as slick as his behaviour, being a man who always knows how to slip himself and his tugs out of the most difficult situations. However, he has also an extremely short temper, often shouting at his tugboats whenever they fouled up a plot to take away a contract from the Steam Tugs.

Relationships: Steam Tugs fleet (rival fleet), Red Stacks fleet (minions), captain John Walters (rival), admiral (superior officer)

Name: Allan Brady

Occupation: locomotive driver

Age: 65 years old

Height: 183cm

Eye colour: brown

Hair colour: grey

History: Born in Anchorage, Alaska, a young Allan Brady was born into a family of veterans and railway workers, with members of his family fighting in both world wars, the Korean war and the Vietnam war, and always returning home in order to continue their work for the Alaska Railroad. Following the footsteps of his ancestors, Allan started his career at the young age of 17, working himself up to become one of the last engine drivers to work on steam locomotives on the ARR. Following the abolishment of steam, Allan left Anchorage in search for a place where steam was still active, traveling across the globe, working in South Africa, China, and finally settling down in Japan, where he was quickly asigned to a troublesome locomotive which the railway never managed to get under control: A second-hand bought, 4-8-0 steam locomotive from the ALCO locomotive manufacture, numbered 23, taken over from its original road number. Much to the shock of both enginemen and company alike, he managed to work with the locomotive quite easily, quickly earning the reputation of him being gifted of getting the most troublesome equipment to comply with him.

Description: A rather silent and well meaning man, Allan Brady is good friends with the tugboats of the Steam Tugs fleet, seeing that they, like he, are driven by steam (in one way or the other). He mostly talks with Comet, Mac, Rock, and Churchill (whenever he actually talks with him, and doesn't argue with Edward and Franklin), and is always there to provide some word of wisdom, if his timetable allows it. He won't let his old age get to him, and shows that just because something is old, doesn't means that its outdated.

Relationships: Steam Tugs (friends), Red Stacks (work associates), governmental railway (employer)

Name: Red Stacks fleet

Occupation(s): Tugboats within the harbor and along the river

Age(s): Between 12 and 29 years

Height(s): Between 155cm and 185cm

History: As with their captain, not much is known about the five remaining tugboats of the Red Stacks fleet. All that is known is, that they worked around Singapore before transferring their operations to Japan. Asking them about their past has been a fruitless endeavor, as the answer would vary from tugboat to tugboat.

Description: Known for devious deeds and foolish actions, the tugboats of the Red Stacks have always worked with dirty tricks to secure contracts. They are indeed hard-working tugs, but always search for a way to gain an advantage against their opponents, which just so happens to be the Steam Tugs fleet. Thanks to the incompetence, foolishness and short temper of some of the fleet's tugboats, most of their attempts to cheat their way into a contract blows upon them shortly afterwards. As of currently, the fleet has one Ocean going tug (Rupert), two harbor tugs (Richard and Roger), and two switchers (Ricky and Ronald). It is not known if they always had those names, or if they had opted to rename themselves after joining the fleet.

Name: The 'lost ones'

Occupation(s): Workers around the harbor/railway

Age(s): Between 21 and 65 years of age

Height(s): Between 120cm and 195cm

History: At the beginning of the war against the Abyssal, many people from all over the world had been stuck at ports they were currently at. That left plenty of jobs that were previously covered open, and plenty of people homeless and jobless in foreign countries. Due to the risk of planes getting shot down by Abyssal AA fire, the suggestion of bringing these dislocated people home via planes was dropped, leaving these lost people stranded. Thankfully, plenty of families who suffered similarly agreed to take them in. In return for their hospitality, these 'lost ones', as they were called, agreed to take over the jobs that the people missing at these locations once did. Since then, people from Germany, England, Russia, Poland, France and many more places were found, working around the harbor and the railways, gladly accepted by the society around them and quietly working away, day in, day out, without fuss or grumble.

And that about covers it! You might find some other, new characters in this story which I have not noted down in this sector, but rest asure, I only did this in order for you not to get any spoilers about them. For now, I thank you for your time, and I hope you will enjoy reading this story as much as I enjoy writing it.
