Chapter 13: Fixing things

...

In what was becoming typical fashion, Minene was the first awake, making breakfast for the both of them. Yuno woke up with her alarm and headed out to the kitchen. She sat at the counter and looked at Minene lovingly. "I guess I should've asked what you might like instead of just making whatever." Minene said as she continued to cook with a smile.

"What are you making?"

"Sausage patties, eggs over easy and French toast."

"I would like sausage patties, eggs over easy and French toast." Yuno said, jokingly.

"Are you just saying that because I'm already making it?"

"Partially, but I'll never turn down anything you cook."

Minene plated everything and sat with Yuno, who kissed her. "Maybe soon, I'll try to cook something fancier. I've got the internet to show me how to do it, so it's practically foolproof."

After eating, they both hit the shower and got dressed for the day. Minene handed Yuno her lunch and they shared a kiss before Yuno was off to school. She met up with Yuki along the way and they walked together. "That little encounter with seventh went a little too easy. I guess that's partially thanks to Minene intervening." Yuki began.

"I knew there was a reason we should keep her around." Yuno chuckled.

"You're engaged to her. Of course, you're going to want to keep her around."

"Yeah, I do like her. A lot."

Yuki received a strange text message asking to meet up soon, but he didn't recognize the number. "Hmm. Wonder who this is." He said, messaging back to ask.

"Think it could be another diary holder?"

"That is a possibility." He answered, just as the other person messaged back, revealing themselves as his father. "Okay, that's a bit of a surprise."

Yuno scratched her head. "Is he a diary holder?"

"I would hope not. That means one of us might end up killing the other. It's bad enough that we have so many other people eyeing that target on our backs."

Yuki messaged him about where to meet up, but his father wouldn't reply right away. He wasn't sure what to make of the situation, but figured it couldn't hurt to meet up.

...

Minene drove to the market to pick out something for her planned dinner date with Yuno. She had an ingredients list from a recipe she found, which looked delicious. Her first stop was to pick up spices and oils. Some of the ingredients, they already had, but Minene decided that having more of them wasn't a bad idea. After picking up spices, she went to get the apple, cucumber and kimchi for the side. Finally, she made her way to a butcher shop. She ordered hanger steak, pork tenderloin and simple cube steak. "Hanger steak? Good taste. I bet your husband will love this." The butcher said, noticing her ring while he worked.

"Not married, just engaged right now." She responded.

"Ah, my apologies."

"I'm also marrying a lady."

The butcher lit up upon hearing the news. "Good to see people loving who they love and not just sticking to societal norms. My brother lives in the US with his husband, and they're really happy together."

"Oh, that's great! How long have they been together?"

"Almost six years now. They've been talking about adopting. Since, you know..."

"I know the feeling. My future wife and I can't do that to each other either." Minene continued, producing her phone and showing a picture of herself with Yuno. "I can only hope I can make her happy like that."

"You two make a cute couple. This picture on the wall is my brother and brother in law."

Minene looked on and smiled, looking forward to when she would also be married. "Awh, they look so happy there. One day, I'll make my lady happy like that."

"He had to move to the US and apply for citizenship. That way, he could have his marriage recognized. Luckily, his husband was a natural born citizen. Made everything easier. There is a way, though. You can apply for a symbolic partnership certificate, which may not count as a marriage license due to Japanese law, but it still recognizes you as exclusive lovers. You can always go to another country which allows same sex marriage and marry there. While also not recognized by the government here, it would still be legal somewhere."

"I just don't understand it. I would think that we could've progressed further than this. Marriage should be between the couple and God, not the courts. If anything, the court should only record it." Minene huffed.

"I agree 100%. Church and state should be separate."

Minene paid and put everything in her bag. "I should be going. It was so nice to talk with you."

"Likewise. Would you be interested in joining us soon? My brother and brother in law are coming back in a couple of weeks. We're having a block party."

"Oh, that sound wonderful. What can we bring?"

"Anything, really. But you shouldn't bring too much, everyone is bringing something."

...

Yuno received a message from Minene. 'We're attending a block party soon. Was invited by the butcher.'

She quickly replied. 'Sounds fun. What's the occasion?'

'The butcher's brother and his brother's husband are coming back from the US.'

Yuno smiled when she read the message. 'Isn't that cute? That'll be us soon enough.'

'Don't fill up on snacks at school. Making us a nice dinner.'

'Can't wait.'

"What's got you so happy?" Yuki asked, seeing Yuno light up suddenly.

"Minene is cooking us a special dinner. That, and we've been invited to a block party."

Yuki kept checking his phone. "Still, nothing for me from dad."

"I'm sure he'll respond soon. He's probably busy."

"Yeah, maybe."

Classes would soon break for lunch and the usual groups would all gather. Hinata and Mao sat with Yuki and Yuno. Everyone started eating, but seemed to be most impressed with what Yuno was eating, which was Kitsune soba with aburaage, tempura shrimp and anmitsu for dessert. "That looks tasty. Did you make it?" Mao asked.

"No, Minene made it for me. She claimed she wasn't good at cooking when we first got together. She's been using the internet to get better at it."

Hinata noticed the crunch of the tempura when Yuno bit one. "Got a good crunch to it, huh?"

"It's a bit crunchy, yes. But I think she deserves a pass for that."

...

When Yuno arrived home from school, she smelled something good. She saw the table made up with proper place settings, candles, a small centerpiece and Minene was plating things. She walked over and greeted Yuno with a hug and a kiss. "I hope you like it. I worked harder on this one."

They both washed up and took their seats. Yuno's eyes went wide open at the marvelous dish, which was a marinated hanger steak with Kimchi apple cucmber slaw. "I can't tell anyone you think you can't cook. Look at this. This is incredible."

"I believe it is the job of the housewife to take care of the head of household." Minene responded, pouring them both a glass of Hardy's Legacy Rich & spicy red wine.

"I'm not old enough to be drinking." Yuno started. "But, it's a labor of love for you to gather all of this, so I shouldn't complain."

"If you'd like, I can get something else. I don't want you getting in trouble."

Yuno leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. "What's one more law to the thousand others?"

"Fair enough."

Yuno took a bite of the steak and was amazed at the flavor. "Oh my goodness, that's good." She took a bite of the slaw and liked that as well. "You went from peanut butter and banana sandwiches to hanger steak and slaw. You've certainly come a long way. I'm glad I get to enjoy this with you."

Minene also took a couple of bites and surprised herself. "I made this? I mean, me?"

Yuno sipped the wine after another bite of the steak. "Hmm, this tastes pretty good. I think I get it now, how they say to pair red wines with red meat."

"That's something I saw coming up on the cooking threads I looked at online. That and white wines pair with poultry dishes. Maybe we'll try that next."

After dinner was finished and the dishes were soaking in the sink, the ladies hit the shower and went to bed. Yuno curled up tight to Minene, who hugged her back. "Minene. Can we just... cuddle tonight?"

"You don't have to ask me that. I love you and I love being close with you."

Yuno looked up and kissed Minene, who put her hand on Yuno's side.

...

Minene came to slowly, noticing the house was dark, aside from occasional flashes of light and loud booms, which she assumed were thunder and lightning, which would also explain the power being out. She looked over and saw Yuno wasn't beside her, so she got up to go look for her. She was dressed, which was strange, since she went to bed without anything on. "What the hell is this?" She thought out loud, thoroughly confused.

She made her way to the door and stepped outside. She could hear rapid gunfire in the distance and the loud booms became clearer. She looked back and the house was gone. Now feeling concerned, she started walking toward the city, which she suddenly recognized. Everything was on fire, the whistle of mortar shells cut through the air, machine guns barked at each other and the explosions got much closer. She kept walking and stepped in a puddle, but her foot felt wet. She looked down and her shoes were gone. Her clothes had reformed into a ragged sort of cloak. Looking around, she heard a cat meowing at her. It was a hairless cat which turned the same color as Beerus. She heard a little girl crying and suddenly, her alarm jolted her awake.

...

Minene quickly hit the button and got out of bed. Yuno also woke up and stretched, then looked over at Minene with a smile. "You look like you had a bad dream. Wanna talk about it?"

Minene scooted closer to her and hugged her. "It was kind of a bad dream. Nothing happened to me, but... everything was just so real, and I recognized almost everything."

"Recognized?"

"You know I'm not from Japan, right?" Minene asked, turning to hug Yuno closer.

"I actually didn't know that, no."

"I was born in the middle east. My parents were killed there by religious extremists, leaving me orphaned. I think I've told you that much."

"That much, yes."

Minene took a deep breath and continued. "That was where my hatred of God, gods and religion came from. I've since changed, seeing you brought back by Deus. Anyway, the city was destroyed by the fighting. I saw an almost picture perfect vision of the city in my dream."

"Are you feeling okay?" Yuno asked as she kissed Minene on the cheek.

"I guess so. I'm not really feeling bad, but that dream took me by surprise. Thank you so much for being here."

"Why would I be anywhere else?"

"I'm just thankful you're here."

Yuno sat on her lap while facing her. They came together for a long, loving kiss. "I always will be."

Yuno laid Minene flat on her back and looked down at her. "I'm in awe. I have both eyes and I get to see such an unimaginable beauty, right here in front of me."

"For being such a dangerous person, you sure went down easy." Yuno joked.

"You agreed to be my girlfriend, then you agreed to be my wife. If I do become god, I could give you the world a thousand times over, and I wouldn't have repaid you enough. Besides, I'm going to be the more... submissive of the two of us. It's kinda my thing to let you be the boss."

Yuno laid down, kissing Minene. "It's just as much my job to keep you happy as well."

Yuno started kissing the side of her neck and holding her hands out to the side. Minene looked at the clock and then at Yuno. "I appreciate what you're doing, but we need to get you ready for school."

Yuno also looked at the clock and got out of bed and off Minene. "That's something we're not going to worry about after the game is over."

They hit the shower and Minene went to make a quick breakfast after they dressed. She turned on the kitchen TV and the news was on, giving a Saturday morning report. "Yuno, sweetie, I don't think you have school today. It's Saturday."

Yuno sat down at the bar and huffed. "First, I was gonna blow your mind with my mouth, then I wasn't, and now there's no school? Do you want to go back to bed?"

Minene thought about it. "Hmm... nah, we're already up. Since there's no school, let's go out to eat."

Yuno walked over to Minene and put her hands on Minene's hips. "Eat out, you say?"

"In the kitchen?"

Yuno went on her knees and unbuckled Minene's belt, then unbuttoned her pants, sliding them down. "If you're interested."

Minene leaned back against the counter as Yuno pulled her underwear out of the way. "You're the head of household." Minene replied with a light shake in her voice.

Yuno started licking away at Minene, making her knees shake as she pushed her closer to the top. Minene's knees gave way as she went over the top. Yuno caught her and stood her back up, followed by pulling up her underwear and pants. "Would you like for me to return the favor?" Minene asked as she buckled her belt.

"You certainly can later on. For now, I'm going to redress in something different since it's an off day."

After redressing, Yuno came back into the kitchen, with her new look startling Minene. She was wearing a black halter top, a Navy blue layered skirt and a pair of Minene's sandals. "You make everything look good."

"Hope you don't mind that I borrowed your sandals. I think they look cute."

...

The couple stopped at a local restaurant for breakfast. They ordered the same, which was a simple breakfast platter with eggs over easy, bacon and toast. Minene got coffee, Yuno got orange juice. While they were eating, Yuno received a message from Yuki. 'Finally about to go meet up with my dad.'

'That's nice. Where are you meeting?' Yuno replied.

'Sakurami Tower. Weird place to just meet up, but whatever.'

"That Amano?" Minene asked.

"Yep. Says his dad wants to meet up with him at Sakurami Tower."

Minene stopped eating and thought about the meeting place for a moment. "Sakurami Tower, huh? Maybe we should go there too."

"Why's that?"

"Something just feels odd to me. That's certainly a unique place to want to see someone. I mean, why else would you want to go where you could potentially get trapped with only one way to escape in a hurry?"

"It figures that you would be thinking about that. Anyway, let's do that after we're done here."

...

Minene and Yuno came up to the tower and Minene's diary started buzzing about it. 'High altitude escape needed' was the message she saw. "High altitude? Like a parachute?"

"Parachute for what?" Yuno asked, stopping to look at her.

'Parachutes available in the closet, top floor. May need to pick the lock.' Minene read the message to Yuno. "Good thing I can still do that. Yeah, something is definitely wrong here. Call Amano and tell him."

Yuno tried calling Yuki, but there was no answer. "That's odd. Maybe it's on silent." Yuno said, sending a text message as well. "You ready for this?"

Minene lifted her shirt slightly, showing her pistol, in appendix carry. She also had three throwing knives in her left back pocket, as well as a scalpel sharp knife in her left front pocket. "Of course. How about you?"

Yuno pulled a switchblade and a small pocket knife. Minene handed Yuno the scalpel knife, which she took and hid between her breasts. "Well, I'm certainly ready now."

They walked into the tower and started going up. When they reached the top floor, they ran into Yuki, who was talking to his father. Kurou went on ahead and Yuki stayed behind. "What's up? You come up here for the sights too?" He asked with a bit of a suspicious look.

"You're not buying it either, are you?" Minene asked.

"Not one bit. I wondered why he wanted to meet all the way up here. Just felt... weird. Then that message Yuno sent me confirmed it."

"What's the deal? Or do you know anything else about it?" Minene asked.

"My dad just said something about being able to clear his debts. It involved my diary. Well, he specifically said something about my phone, but I guess he doesn't know what it really is."

"That's a massive red flag. There's got to be another holder at work here." Yuno said.

"Tell you what. I'm going after some parachutes. Give me your diary and I'll try to find something to make a copy of it. He may not know the difference."

"You're willing to go to these lengths for me?" He asked as he handed over his diary.

"We're still a team, right? You look out for me, I do the same for you. I'll be back in a moment."

Minene walked around the corner, leaving Yuno and Yuki alone. "She's certainly gotten to be more friendly."

Yuno smiled. "Well, I did just do something tender for her earlier."

"Tender? Oh, I get it. I thought you were waiting."

"We've only done stuff with our mouths so far. I don't think that counts." Yuno said with a slight blush.

"Whatever makes you happy. I mean, I don't think she would refuse."

"Nope. She does anything I want her to do."

Minene came around the bend with two parachutes in hand. She dropped them and handed Yuki his decoy phone. "Your diary sent a message. It's seventh. They probably want him to turn over your diary so they can get rid of you. Take this one. Looks like yours, but it's a regular phone. Found it in a box in the closet."

Yuno looked around and only saw the two parachutes. "Is that all of them?"

Minene lifted her shirt again, showing the parachute. "I'd rather they don't readily see that I have it."

"Awful convenient for those to be there, isn't it?" Yuki asked as he picked one up.

"Not really. If you're stuck up here and theres a fire that knocks out the elevator, you may not want to risk taking the stairs either. They may not be ventilated well enough. Easy out? Bust a window and jump with these."

...

Going along with the plan, Yuki went in to see his dad, who asked to see his phone. He handed over the decoy, not letting on about his actual diary. They walked together into another room, showing Marco and Ai. "Heh, you can always get another one of these, son." Kurou said.

"What's so important about my phone?" Yuki asked, acting like he was worried.

"I don't really know, Yukiteru. I just know that these folks are promising to wipe my debt clean if I hand your phone over to them. It's just a phone, don't worry."

"Yeah, Yuki. It's just your phone. You can get another one, right?" Marco chuckled. "You think we don't know that this is the decoy ninth just so happened to have found in the closet with the chutes?"

Yuki's blood went cold when he figured out what was going on. "Decoy? You've got another?" Kurou asked.

"I can't tell you everything, dad. Just know that I can't let these two get my phone."

"You're not thinking of leaving, are you?" Marco asked, pressing a button that locked the doors to the room they were in. "There we go. Can't risk ninth getting in here. She's honestly the biggest threat we see in the game. Now, how about that diary of yours? I can see it in your pocket."

Everyone was distracted by small explosions that blew the locks off the door. Soon after, Minene's boots came flying through the door, along with the three throwing knives. While Yuki was distracted, Kurou grabbed at his pocket and took out what was in it. It was a bathroom tile that was broken to about the same size and shape as his diary. "What the hell is this?"

"Do you really think I'd keep my phone on me after what it told me? It's with Yuno." Yuki responded, looking cool to throw the others off.

Yuno walked through the doors. "Exactly. It's safe with me because my future wife will protect me."

Marco started walking toward Yuno, who just stood there with a smile. He looked down and saw the boots, but also looked at Yuno's feet, which were still in Minene's sandals. Both his own diary and Ai's diary buzzed at the same time. As he turned back to run toward Ai, Yuno grabbed one of the throwing knives and threw it at Ai, who just barely managed to dodge it, even though it still cut a few hairs from the side of her face. Minene dropped from the ceiling and grabbed Ai, holding her pistol to Ai's temple. Yuno threw another knife, which Marco blocked with his hand. He pulled the knife from his hand and went to throw it back at her, but he missed.

Wanting to save Ai, he kept running for her. Yuki stepped in and tackled Marco, making him stumble and fall into Ai and Minene. Everyone hit the floor, which also caused the pistol to be knocked from Minene's hand. In the confusion, Marco grabbed the pistol, aiming it at Yuno. She ducked as he was pulling the trigger. The shot went off, but nothing happened. Taking advantage of the situation, Yuno got up and rushed them again. Ai similarly tackled her and got her to the floor. Marco dropped the magazine and saw it was loaded with blanks. "What the hell is this? Who carries a gun with blanks in it?" He shouted in frustration.

"Maybe someone who doesn't want their partner getting shot with it." Minene said as she stood.

Ai held Yuno on the floor, keeping her from doing anything else. "Yeah, well your partner is pinned anyway. What do you think of that?" Ai asked with a sinister smile.

Minene held up a small remote, which Marco and Ai both immediately recognized. "Where did you get that? What happened to Ta-Kun?"

"Is that what you call him? No wonder he handed it over without a fight. Well, that and those toe popper sized charges I used to breach. He made his way down the elevator unconscious." Minene laughed.

She pressed the button and several explosions rocked the tower. One of them blew out a section of the floor they were on. Part of the ceiling collapsed as well, trapping Marco. Yuki threw a dart at Ai to get her to move so Yuno could get up. She dodged it and Yuno drew the Scalpel knife, slicing through Ai's neck deep enough to cut the jugular, but also enough to the side to cut the carotid artery. Ai rolled over to her side and tried to grab at her neck to apply pressure, but the volume of arterial blood coming out showed that it would be of no use. Marco screamed from his trapped position, reaching for Ai.

Yuki looked over to see Kurou grabbing a parachute and jumping out of the window. "Oh no, now we don't have enough to get out." He managed to say, seeing his father abandoning him again.

"Put on the other one and jump with Yuno. I'd probably weigh too much for the both of us on this chute." Minene said, unfazed by the blasts. "Now go, I don't know how much longer the tower will stay like this."

Yuki put on the other parachute and Yuno grabbed hold of him. "We'll see you at the bottom." Yuno told her as they jumped.

Marco was steadily pulling, trying to get free so he could see Ai before they both died. Minene saw this and pulled some of the rubble from him, revealing that he was ipaled on a piece of rebar. She pulled him loose and helped him over to Ai. He held her in one final embrace as they both slipped away from consciousness. Minene took off her shirt and jumped, pulling the cord as soon as she was clear of the building. She steered herself to land near one of the others, which was the one Yuki and Yuno jumped with. She took off the chute and Yuno ran up to hug her. "Umm, you left your shirt up there."

"I think that given the circumstances, I'll let that one go." She answered, kissing Yuno.

Yuki finally managed to get the chute off. "Minene, thanks again."

"Hey, you helped save her. We're even. Take your diary back." She told him, handing it back to him.

"I gotta go talk to my dad. I'll see you two later."

Minene used a knife to cut a small amount of fabric from one of the chutes to make a crude shirt before trying to walk home. "Take these." Yuno said, handing Minene her sandals.

"What will you wear?" Minene asked as she took off her socks to put the sandals on.

"Think I could ride piggyback?"

Minene thought about it and agreed. Yuno hopped up and Minene started walking. "This was a hell of a Saturday."

"Why did you take your socks off?" Yuno asked as she rested her head on Minene's shoulder.

"I dunno. I guess socks with sandlas are a fashion move I don't like."

...
