UPDATE (1/1/17): Hey there, dmoose18 here. I have undertaken the task of rewriting the first three chapters for Xman. From the statistics we've seen, we lose 70% of our viewer count over the course of those three chapters, and for good reason.

The original version of Chapter 1 was just a total pile of dog crap, Chapter 2 was a nightmare of too much boring exposition (my fault), and Chapter 3 we had the blunder of following the storyline to the letter and letting Roman escape exactly as he had in the series with no changes from Gohan whatsoever.

So, with that being said, we apologize for this having taken so long. I rewrote this chapter in one night, so there may still be some improvements to be made. However, it's far better than anything we had before, so there's that…

Expect CH 2 to be rewritten after CH 10 is released, and the CH 3 rewrite to come out at a date to be determined. Hopefully I can convince the 6,000 viewers we lost from CH 1 to CH 2, and the extra 1,000 we lost after that, to return and give us a second chance. I can promise that if you make it to chapter 3, we improve at a rapid rate, but please excuse the appearance of chapters 2 and 3 for now.

Anyway, enough of my talking. I hope you enjoy the rewrite! Here's Xman's original A/N:

It's heeeeeeeerreeeeee! This is my first shipping story, and as I said, it's a favor for a friend of mine, the editor of A Different Past, ryanweston123 (now dmoose18).

Now, normally I'd just alternate chapters between this and ADP, I'm doing this and the next chapter back to back. Just because this chapter came out a lot faster than I expected it to.

For now, ENJOY!

Cooking meals for two Super Saiyans, who seemingly had bottomless pits for stomachs, wasn't exactly an easy task. However, over the many years of her marriage with Goku, Chi-Chi had adapted and learned to manage the heavy workload. It wasn't the easiest task in the world, but the martial artist turned housewife was happy to provide for her family. Her meals were about the only thing that could keep her husband in the house, otherwise he was always out training. He'd even started taking her baby boy along with him, outrageous! She knew that Cell was a threat, but it was ridiculous to make an 12 year old boy prepare to fight a monster like that! Or...was he 13 now? Goku's explanation of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber had been lacking.

Regardless, when she'd found out that her beloved Gohan had become a delinquent blond haired Super Saiyan like his father, she wasn't quite sure what to do. Now though, just like her adaptation to their saiyan diets, the Ox King's daughter had learned to cope with this as well. It was clear that she would just need to grin and bear it for now. After all, Gohan couldn't become a world renowned scholar if Cell destroyed the Earth, right?

Chi-Chi finished placing the last plate of food on the table. It was an impressive spread, even by her high standards. She wanted to give her boys the best few days possible in preparation for the Cell Games. They didn't have much time left to be a happy family, so she was surely going to make the most of it. She took a moment to admire her work, before stepping out of the house to call her son home.

"Gohan!" She yelled. "Dinner time!"

The Son matron waited for a moment, expecting to hear Gohan's voice carrying over the treeline, but she received no response. It was possible that he simply hadn't heard her, so she tried again. "Gohan, where are you?! It's time to eat!"

Once again, no response. Now the mother was beginning to get worried. Abandoning the food on the table, Chi-Chi ran into the wilderness.

"Gohan!" She shouted, rushing past the trees and animals that got in her way. "Gohan! GOHAN! WHERE ARE YOU?!"

Jeez, my head really hurts...what happened?

That was a good question. What had happened to him? After a moment of quiet recollection, he couldn't remember a darn thing that had happened after he left his home. What he did know, however, was that his whole body felt numb. His power felt very low too, he must have dropped out of his Super Saiyan state from the stress of whatever had happened.

Well, that's an issue. I can't hear anything either...wait am I dead?! No, that can't be...if I was dead I'd be speaking with King Yemma right now, I'm sure of it. So that begs the question, what the heck is going on?

He didn't want to risk opening his eyes or moving his body until he was in control of his movements. Soon though, the numbness started to fade away, and in it's place he felt painful aches all over.

Well, this is pleasant...maybe I'm dreaming? No, if I was, this would be a lucid dream, something I've never had before. I think I would be able to tell if that was happening, so I'm ruling that option out. Oh hey, I'm starting to regain feeling in my fingers, that's great. Let me feel around and...

Was what he felt grass? That would make sense, considering that from what he remembered, he'd gone out on a walk around the area of Mr. Paozu. It definitely seemed like grass, but there was something different about it...something he couldn't put his finger on. He'd felt the texture of the grass around the forests of his home for years, he knew them well enough that he'd be able to tell the difference between them without looking. This was grass, but it felt nothing like what was around his home.

Suddenly, he realized he was feeling something other than his aches and pains. Something was poking at his arm, presumably with a stick from what he was able to feel. He stayed silent and motionless, stretching out his senses and examining the situation before acting, just like Piccolo had taught him. From what he was able to sense, there were two people to his immediate left. Their power levels were considerably higher than that of a normal human, but they weren't in the realm of being a threat to him. As his hearing began to return to him, he was able to discern the sound of muffled voices. Eventually, the sound was clear enough for him to understand the conversation, so he listened in.

"Ruby, this is sorta ridiculous, even by your standards. You can't just poke this guy with a stick to see if he's alive..." The first voice that came to him was a woman, and she sounded like a young adult. Maybe she was in her late teens?

"Yang!" Another girl exclaimed, stretching out the word, which Gohan assumed to be the name of the first girl who had spoken. "Why not?! That's exactly what you said we should do, word for word!" This girl, who was probably "Ruby", clearly sounded younger and more innocent.

"I was joking Rubes, you really need to brush up on your sarcasm. First my glorious puns are lost on you, and now this...I just wish someone understood my genius." The older girl tried to explain. Before she could finish, however, Gohan felt an itch on his arm where Ruby had been poking him. He'd been struggling to stay silent for awhile, but the urge to scratch was now simply too great, and the hopeful scholar gave in.

"Hey!" Ruby yelled in excitement. "He's moving, Yang! And you said it wouldn't work!"

Since it was clear that faking unconsciousness wasn't going to achieve anything, Gohan opened his eyes and allowed himself to take in the environment. He was in a forest, greenery surrounding him, so that matched up with what he was able to remember. Still, something about this place seemed...off. The colors, the feel of the grass, even the energy of his surroundings...all of it seemed different to what he was used to.

Turning his head, Gohan saw the two girls he had heard speaking before. As he's suspected, the girl closest to him had a stick in her hand. She had shoulder length black hair with a slight red tint, and uniquely captivating silver eyes. She wore a hooded red cloak with a black blouse and skirt, both with red details and trimmings, along with leggings the same color as her hair and black boots which once again had red laces and details. The gleeful and carefree look on her face reminded him very much of Goku. It wasn't that he thought they looked alike, but the warmth and happiness her smile conveyed was only rivaled by that of his father. The man had a distinct effect on people whenever he was around, laughing and joking along with their friends. It was impossible not to be happy and laugh along. When Gohan examined the girl's face, he came to the conclusion that she had the same look about her. He soon realized that he was staring, and looked away embarrassed, but at that moment he decided he could trust her. That face could not belong to an evil soul.

Gohan turned his attention to the woman behind her. She seemed older, and had long golden yellow hair. It almost reminded Gohan of the Super Saiyan form. However, her eyes confirmed it was just her usual hair. They were a lilac shade, not the turquoise that signified the Super form. She had an orange scarf around her neck, accompanied by a tan vest over a yellow crop top, which revealed her toned stomach. She wore black short-shorts, over which she had a belt that was normal at the front but resembled a pleated skirt at the back, with a regular white skirt under it. On her feet were a pair of brown leather boots that came up to her knees, with one orange sock coming above her left knee with a gray bandana of sorts wrapped around it, and the other fitting much looser just under her right knee. The look was completed by what looked to be two yellow gauntlets on her wrists, and black fingerless gloves that went under them.

"Hey!" The red haired girl said. "Are you ok? You looked like you were out cold when we found you!" Her voice confirmed that she was indeed Ruby, which meant that the golden haired girl must be Yang.

"She's been poking you for the last 10 minutes." Yang chuckled.

Gohan got back to his feet, still dealing with slight aches and pains from whatever had happened to him. "I'm fine…thanks for looking after me." He explained, as he rubbed his back.

"I'm Ruby!" The cloaked girl said excitedly, before pointing towards the yellow haired woman. "And this is my sister, Yang! Who are you?"

After cracking his neck for a moment, the young saiyan answered. "My name is Gohan. It's very nice to meet you." He said, extending his hand for a handshake.

Ruby stood there for a moment, until she realized what she was supposed to do. "Oh!" She stuttered, a little embarrassed, her face gaining the same red tint as her hair for a moment. She proceeded to shake Gohan's hand. "It's nice to meet you too, Gohan!"

"Hey, uh, no offense…" Yang interjected. "...but do you remember how you ended up unconscious in a forest? Anyone or anything we can help you find?"

Gohan tried to think back to what had happened, but it still seemed fuzzy. He didn't remember the details of his walk around the forest, but he did remember some sort of green vortex. He remembered getting really dizzy, feeling a lot of pain, and then he blacking out. "No." Gohan half-lied. "I don't."

Yang shook her head, chuckling "Well, that's great." She replied sarcastically.

"That means you're lost, right?!" Ruby suddenly responded, oddly excited. "We could let you stay at our house for a little while if you need to. Is that ok Yang?"

The blonde teen shrugged. "It's really up to dad, but I don't have too much of a problem with it. School is starting soon, so I'll be going off to Beacon this week. We should have a spare room for you, and if not you can use mine once I'm gone."

Gohan had never heard of "Beacon" before, which was incredibly odd to him. His mother had made him visit every one of the top universities around the world (it was never too early, she said), and even some of the lesser schools as well. Unless Beacon was a regional public school, he should know of it's existence. Adding on to that, if they were near a public school, he was extremely far away from his home. He was going to think more on the issue, but he remembered that he still hadn't answered their question.

"No thanks Ruby, I should be fine…" He responded, and began to search for his father's energy signal. If Gohan focused, he could usually sense someone's energy from anywhere on Earth, so the fact that he couldn't find his father's at the moment was unnerving. Next he tried Piccolo, but was met with similar results. He looked for the energy signals of all his friends and family, but he still couldn't find a single one.

Something was seriously wrong.

"Do you guys happen to know where Mt. Paozu is?" He asked hesitantly, hoping and praying their answer would be in the affirmative.

Yang tilted her head in thought. "Uhhhh, nope. Never heard of it, have you Ruby?" The younger sister shook her head, and with that, Gohan was officially worried.

Crapbaskets...

The saiyan sighed, knowing that he was in for another unwanted adventure. "Actually…I guess I could use a place to stay for a little while."

"Great!" Ruby replied, throwing her hands in the air. "Come on, Gohan!"

Before the trio could start walking, a low growl was heard from the forest surrounding them.

"Uh...oh…" Ruby said, her voice dropping. Yang shook her hands, and to Gohan's surprise, her gauntlets extended to become what looked like a weapon of sorts.

"Beowolves…" Yang announced, before turning to her sister. "Get Crescent Rose out and protect Gohan!"

"Right, sis!" Ruby replied, taking the large red box she had connected to her outfit and unfolding it, revealing a large red scythe.

Gohan was thoroughly confused. He'd heard the growl too, but he couldn't feel any animals nearby...and what kind of animal was a "Beowolf"?

He didn't have to wait very long to find out, as a large bear-like creature leaped from the trees, swiping at the group. Yang and Ruby rolled out of the way, while Gohan jumped high onto a stable tree branch. He stayed there for a moment, identifying the threat. Upon closer inspection, the bear creature had black fur, with white and red markings all over it. This certainly wasn't something he was familiar with, he knew almost every species of animal, and this was not one of them. Which left only one explanation…

It was a monster of some sort.

The even stranger thing was that he couldn't sense any energy coming from the creature. Ruby and Yang had some ki of their own, but the bear had...nothing. No life energy, which meant it was either a puppet, or some creepy soulless being.

Yang leaped into action, throwing a punch at the Beowolf's head. The hit didn't appear to do much on impact, but it seemed that the gauntlets she was wearing fired a shotgun blast that knocked the creature into a tree trunk. The bear tried to get up and attack once more, but Ruby jumped high in the air (an impressive height for what Gohan assumed was a normal human) and came down on it's head, stabbing the tip of her scythe into its cranium. A quick flip launched the monster off of the weapon and into the shadows of the forest.

"Nice one, sis!" Yang complemented.

Gohan jumped back to the ground, but before he could say anything several more Beowolves came into view, attacking the girls.

The saiyan was hesitant to attack at first, but the more he saw, the more it seemed like the best course of action. Somehow these creatures didn't have ki, and they seemed to have the intent to kill. If they were soulless, there was no life to end in the first place, so it would be the same as destroying robots. That was good enough for him.

He dashed toward one of the many Beowolves, and threw a hard kick to it's chin. The force of the kick instantly decapitated the Beowolf, and the head continued to fly into the sky until it wasn't possible for even Gohan to see. After watching the Beowolf head fly into orbit, Gohan turned his attention to the other Beowolves, and put his hands together, charging up energy.

"MASENKO HA!" He yelled, forcing his hands forward. The energy he had built up was fired out in a yellow beam of plasma, atomizing the Beowolves in front of Gohan.

Wow...that wasn't hard at all. I guess I should have expected it, but I couldn't sense their power so it was difficult to judge how much I needed to use. Kinda like the Androids now that I think about it...

Suddenly, Ruby was in front of him, a trail of rose petals behind her. "THAT WAS SO COOL!" She yelled, grabbing his hands, as if she were inspecting them. "Was that your semblance? Or is there a weapon in your shirt? How did you get so strong? That one Beowolf's head just popped off like BOOM!"

Gohan had lost her at the first sentence. "Semblance? What are you talking about? And what was that monster?" He asked.

Ruby raised an eyebrow. "Um...you know, special abilities you get at birth? You don't know about semblances? And that monster was a creature of Grimm, don't tell me you've never seen one of those! They're all over the place, enemy of humanity, destroyer of life, you know?"

"We found him knocked out. Probably has amnesia or something like that." Yang said, chuckling. "Of course, that still doesn't explain the easy decapitation. Do you go to one of the academies, or did you learn moves like that on your own?"

"I...trained…" Gohan stuttered.

Yang laughed again. "I think THAT much is obvious. Come on Ruby, Dad will want to hear about this," she gestured to Gohan, "and we need to bring him home anyway."

"Right!" Ruby said, letting go of Gohan's hands. "Come on, Gohan!"

Gohan stood with a blank expression for a moment, before following along dutifully. He had a lot to think about. What was that ki-less monster, a "Grimm" she'd called it? Why did this Ruby think he had something called a "semblance"? Why couldn't he sense his father or any of his other friends? Why did everything seem so...weird? Things were strange...stranger than usual, and that's saying something considering Gohan's life up until this point.

"So, Ruby…" Gohan started, hoping for some answers to his many, many questions. "...what was that thing? You said it was a...Grimm, right?"

Ruby looked confused again, but Yang gave a nod, and she remembered Yang's theory. "Right! Am-nes-ia." She repeated to herself, with some difficulty, amusing the saiyan greatly.

Yang began to answer Gohan's question. "It's a type of Grimm, one of the weaker ones, thankfully. You don't remember Grimm either?"

Gohan shook his head, and Yang sighed. "Guess I better start from the beginning, then."

"So, legend says that the creatures of Grimm were around even before us. When humans were born into the world, the Grimm tried to bring us to extinction, and for a while they came pretty close. It wasn't until we discovered a new energy source, which we named "dust", that the odds were evened. Nowadays, the people who protect others from the Grimm are known as huntsmen and huntresses."

"Yeah!" Ruby interjected. "That's what we're trying to be! Yang's already been accepted into Beacon Academy."

"That's a school in Vale that trains people to be Huntsmen and Huntresses, assuming you don't remember that, either."

He shook his head, then thought of another question "So, what's this dust stuff like?"

"Oooh! Oooh!" Ruby exclaimed. "I can do this one! Dust comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes, though we usually use it as a powder. It can be used for lots of different things, like as a power source, or as a weapon."

"Most dust tends to have some control over an element." Yang continued to explain. "For example, red dust controls fire."

As they continued to speak, explaining the history of dust and it's many applications, Gohan became more and more distressed. None of this sounds familiar to me at all! Monsters being fought the world over that I've never heard of, a source of power that I've never even seen, schools I didn't know existed...something is definitely wrong here, and I need to find out what.

"We're here!" Yang announced in a sing-song voice, knocking the saiyan out of his own thoughts. "Home, sweet home!"

They stood in front of a large, two story wood cabin. As the sisters walked up their front steps, Gohan hesitantly followed. "Dad!" Ruby yelled, using her hands to increase the volume of her voice. "We're home!"

From one of the other rooms, an older man with blonde hair walked in, presumably the girl's father. This was confirmed when Ruby ran up to the man and hugged him, despite barely reaching his chest in height. The man patted the her on the head.

"Did you two have fun?" He asked, before noticing Gohan. "Who…?" He started to ask, before Yang interrupted.

"It's a long story." She said.

"Well, it's not thaaaaat long…" Ruby admitted.

"I'm Gohan". The saiyan explained, still extremely uncomfortable in this situation.

"We found him in the forest. Yang said he has amne….amnisa...amne…"

"Amnesia." Yang helped. "He doesn't seem to remember how he got there, or what dust and semblances are."

"So..." Ruby continued. "I thought you wouldn't mind if he stayed for awhile, you know, until he remembers stuff."

The father took a look at Gohan, then back at his children, before looking at Gohan again. "Alright…" He sighed. "I guess it won't hurt. He needs help anyway."

"Sweet!" Yang said, pumping her fist.

"Thanks, Dad!" Ruby smiled.

Gohan bowed respectfully. "Thank you for your hospitality, sir."

"Oh, what manners! I can tell we're going to get along great. Maybe you can teach my daughters a thing or two…" He said with a slight glance in the direction of his two girls. The father walked up to Gohan, smiling. "Call me Taiyang. You're welcome to stay as long as you need to."

For the first time since he'd woken up, Gohan truly smiled.

UPDATE: Okay, Chapter 1 is in the books...again. I didn't add too much length to it, but it's at least readable now. This was always meant to be a short chapter, so that's how it'll stay. The real bulk of the work will come with fixing chapters 2 and 3, so expect that within the coming months.

That's all I have to say for now, so I hope you enjoyed this!

(Original A/N from Xman): So, let's point out a few ground rules. The same logic from ADP about ki and aura applies in this story, in that they are one and the same. Also, there's the same Professor Peach. Aside from that, everything else can be different. I'm even doing my best to listen to people and not nerf Gohan. He's a little nerfed, but that's only out of necessity, and most of that nerfing comes from him holding back, for reasons that the character section should tell you. Till next time, hope you enjoyed!
