Of Infirmary Visits and Redecorating

a.n. In which Percy has woken up in the infirmary more times than anyone can count, and Leo's determined to remodel it as the new Cabin 3. Set after events in The Heroes of Olympus.

Infirmary, Camp Half-Blood, Long Island, NY

For the seventh time that summer, Percy woke to find himself in the infirmary.

Great, he thought. What stupid thing did I do now?

He opened his eyes, expecting to see an angry daughter of Athena about to yell at him for being a moron and worrying her so much—maybe even a few children of Apollo.

It's safe to say he definitely wasn't expecting this.

"Um, Leo?"

The son of Hephaestus glanced up innocently from where he was currently plastering The Little Mermaid posters onto the wall.

Percy pushed himself into a sitting position, wincing at the pain in his chest. Broken ribs, he mused. "Leo, what the Hades are you doing?"

Leo shrugged, going back to his posters. "Redecorating."

What?

Percy glanced around the infirmary, finally realizing what felt so wrong about his surroundings. The room he was in had been completely remodeled—the typical white sheets had been swapped for bright blue-and-green ones, the cots replaced with miniature water beds, and the walls had been painted in a rough replica of the abalone-shell walls back in the Poseidon Cabin.

Wait a minute. . .

In the corner of the room, a fountain—yet another replica taken from his cabin—was gushing water. Worst of all, music was playing from a hidden radio—freaking Under the Sea.

An elfish grin formed on the son of Hephaestus's face as he finished his last poster, turning to look at Percy expectantly. "Well?"

"Well?" Percy raised an eyebrow incredulously. "Well what? Dude, what did you do?"

Leo glanced around at his work, nodding approvingly. He held out his hands proudly. "Welcome to your new cabin!"

Percy wasn't impressed. "My new cabin?"

Leo nodded, completely poker-face. "Duh. I mean, I'm pretty sure you spend more time here than your actual cabin, so I figured I'd do you a favor!"

Percy rolled his eyes, pushing back the blue-green sheets. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, feeling the waterbed cot sway beneath him. "If this is what you consider a favor," he said, shooting his friend a look, "I'm gonna stop coming to you for them."

Leo huffed. "Don't be like that, man." His elfish grin widened until it looked more devious than just plain Leo-ish. "Look, I gave you a cool pillow as a get-well-soon present!"

Percy glanced behind him, finding even his pillow had been remodeled, the pillowcase covered with a picture of Ariel.

"See?" Leo was boasting. "Aren't I just amazing? It's the perfect cabin for you, Perce! In fact—"

The Ariel-pillow smacked him in the face, and the son of Hephaestus went down.

Percy smiled approvingly. "You're right, Leo! That was a cool get-well-soon present!"

His only response was a muffled, "You're welcome."
