~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(Story Time)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Natalie dragged Desmond down the hall and down her own hall, the other four men following behind them just as curious as to what she was gonna show him. He was easily dragged into one of the rooms down her hall that he assumed was the tech room, or at least he did until he saw the strange paneling all along the room and the Animus sitting in the center with Becca and Duncan leaning over it and chattering excitedly. Off to one side of the room was a large desk like setup with several monitors and computer terminals. Shaun was of course by the monitors typing at a laptop he had set up to the side a smirk on his face. Shay and Jacob were leaning against the wall closest to the door, both of them smiling slightly as they watched Natalie drag Desmond into the room, neither appeared to be doing anything other than watching events unfold.
There was a sixth person in the room, who he hadn't seen before, who had one of the wall panels pulled off and appeared to be messing with the wiring. She was a petite woman with long fiery red hair and light skin with large splattering of dark freckles all over her bare skin. Her hair was pinned back in a messy bun and she was dressed in the typical attire of jeans, t-shirt and boots that seemed common for anyone working with Natalie. Desmond watched as she finished up with wires and carefully pushed them back into the wall and replaced the panel before turning to face the room.
"We're good to go whenever Nat!" The woman called, a slight Irish lilt clear in her voice. It was nothing like Shay's Irish brogue, but it was enough to show clearly where the woman came from.
"Awesome Riley!" Nat called back waving her over to Becca and Duncan before the blonde spun to face the four men watching her curiously.
"Okay I'm sure you all are extremely curious as to what is happening, but first things first, meet my other team techy who got back yesterday from a mission, Riley O'Connell." Natalie introduced as the red head smiled at them.
Her heart shaped face appeared sweet and mischievous somehow and her dark green eyes seemed to make her hair appear all the brighter.
"Pleasure to meet you all, Nat filled me in upon arrival onto the project." Riley greeted.
"Now moving on. So, I told you that you wouldn't have to go back in by the time we were done Des, and I, of course, was right. Now I know Becca told you my idea was to use your blood somehow to bring up video-like memories on monitors, but I got a stroke of genius thanks to Riley. She suggested we use the concept of the bleeding effect to create something that allowed us to view ancestral memories." Natalie explained, gesturing first to the monitors Shaun stood by then to Riley who shook her head at the blonde.
"Okay." Desmond said with a nod, following her so far.
"Okay, so I ran with that idea and thus the room we're in. It's a hologram room. Using holograms and light reflection from the panels, by using just a tube of blood from a subject and hooking it into the Animus, we can basically boot up a program that follows ancestral memories of an Ancestor of our choosing as long as we know for a fact that blood is linked to that historical person. We already tested it using myself, Shaun and Riley and bringing up holographic ancestral memories of different ancestors we knew we were linked to."
'What's even better is I made it to the point there's no limit to how far back we go, at least not one we've found so far. Not that it matters we have the living entity of the next ancestor we'll need to go through, but this does mean we can straight up skip watching his father's memories and instead skip straight to his own." Natalie explained practically vibrating on the spot as she glanced between them all expectantly.
Desmond paused for a second and stared at his best friend. She hadn't just re-fabricated the Animus so he wouldn't have to go back in, he made it so that basically anyone could view their ancestral memories without worry of synchronization to that specific ancestor. He had always known his best friend was smart, but dear lord he had never thought on this level. Granted she did it with a team, but most of the thought processing was her own head and them just using their own specialties to bring her ideas to life and she even played a part in bringing said ideas into reality.
"Natalie, you are both brilliant and terrifying in your intelligence, you know that?" Desmond inquired curiously.
"That's what I said when she suggested the idea originally." Jacob agreed as he approached. Shay came over as well and stood behind Nat to set his hands on her shoulders, most likely to keep her from vibrating straight through the floor.
"Well then I suppose we should test this with a memory you actually want." Dylan said, looking to the blonde.
"We'll need some of Connor's blood for that, unfortunately while we can choose any memory, since we don't know specifically when or what we are looking for in Connor's memory, we will have to start from somewhere near the beginning of his life, you don't have to sit in for it if you don't wish Connor, I will most likely be choosing a memory from your childhood and I know from our archives that some memories weren't so pleasant." Natalie said, looking to Connor with an apologetic smile at the end.
The Native simply nodded in understanding and allowed for Becca to come over and draw a tube of blood without complaint. After that was done, Desmond watched as Becca went over to the Animus and hooked the tube up to the needle that used to go into his arm and pointed her finger to Shaun. The Brit turned to a monitor and typed on one of the keyboards, before the room started to shimmer and light up similar to the Animus loading screen that Desmond was very familiar with. As they watched the room, it slowly went from an endless white void to a beautiful forest with the sound of birds twittering and insects buzzing.
"This is impressive Nat, best work from you techies yet." Dylan commented, walking around, running his hands through the holographic plants and trees.
"I try." Natalie said smugly.
Desmond rolled his eyes at his best friend and watched the holographic scene unfold around them. Before long the sound of laughter filled the trees and two Native American children came bursting from the undergrowth. Both children couldn't be more than eight, and even with how young he was Desmond could pick Connor out of the two easily. They all watched the scene as it moved with the two children until they were rushing through a large campsite that mostly had Connor's tribe.
"This will be a good way to actually learn how some Native tribes actually functioned on a day to day." Riley commented, the red-head looking around at the people who moved about the campsite.
"It will certainly be an eye opener that's for sure. I'm only sorry that those in the past treated them all so badly, we could've had a better understanding of all of them long before now if they had." Natalie responded, moving about the room and examining some of the tents and objects strewn about.
They watched the memory play out after that. It appeared they had ended up with just a simple day-to-day memory and they all watched as the day played out of a young Connor playing with other children in his tribe as well as helping his mother with chores around the campsite. The memory ended when Connor's mother called him into their tent for the night.
"Well, now that we have a general time frame, I can cross reference with the Archives and find the time Connor spent as an assassin." Natalie said, moving over to Shaun and typing at one of the monitors, "For now we'll leave this be. Becca and Riley, you two can come help me make dinner for everyone. Shaun, you file away this memory for future reference. The rest of you boys can go play until I call you for food."
Desmond chuckled at Natalie's dismissive nature of most of them and turned to his soulmates.
"Shall we go back to training?" He inquired.
"We could go over a few more fighting techniques before dinner." Altair agreed.
"Perhaps you two would like to join us?" Ezio inquired, turning to Shay and Jacob with a welcome smile.
"I don't see why we can't, what do you say mate?" Jacob said, looking to Shay. The Irishman seemed to watch the others for a moment before glancing to Natalie and back. He shrugged and then nodded. Desmond led the way out of the room with the rest of the men following close behind him. He was happy to see that his soulmates were trying to be welcoming to Shay despite learning what side he was on in life, though he could see that Connor seemed quite tense by the prospect of the man joining. The Native had moved closer to him and was now walking beside him a little protectively, Desmond assumed that the two most likely met during Connor's life and so there was most likely a personal issue between the two. He'd have to inquire about it later in private, for now he'd focus on Altair's hand-to-hand combat training.
