"So, you're the scientist behind the APTX 4869."

The young woman looked up from the corner of her small cell, her face draped in shadow.

"Vermouth," she hissed. "Isn't that what they call you? Are you the one they sent to assassinate me?"

The taller woman smiled and tossed her blonde hair.

"I know where you can find that teenaged detective," she said. "The one they sent you to track down when they couldn't find his body. The one that you and your team twice failed to find."

The prisoner leaned forward, her eyes gleaming in the dim light. "Then, he is alive."

Vermouth quirked an eyebrow.

"The power on this level will go out in three minutes," she said. "If you want to live, you'll leave then."

"Sounds like a trap," the young woman said. "This facility is a fortress. Even if I get out of this room, there are agents everywhere. Guards posted at every door."

"Your life. Your choice," Vermouth said and turned away. "Sherry."

The young woman watched her vanish into the shadows, then opened her fist, staring down at the sample she'd swiped from her lab before they'd come to lock her up...the experimental compound she'd been testing on mice.

The poison she'd labeled APTX 4869.

"I won't give them the satisfaction," she said, swallowing it down. "I'm getting out of the Black Organization. Out of this place! One way or another..."

The pain she felt was immediate and intense but she held it in, she didn't cry out, even as it seemed her bones were twisting, her skin searing away...

"Oh my god..." She gasped and sat up, breathing hard as she blinked at at her hands, her arms... "I'm not dead. I'm..." She stared up at a room that seemed to have grown significantly taller, wider, at the adult-sized clothing she suddenly found herself swimming in. The power shut down with a clunking sigh, the heavy door's electromagnetic lock slid open, and she very nearly laughed.

"So," she said, slipping her way out under the red glow of emergency lights. "The compound shrunk me after all. Now it seems I will have to find that detective. And an antidote..."
