"Hotaro. Do you have a girlfriend?"

"What kind of question is that?"

He should have been prepared for this. Aneki has been home for weeks now; he guesses that she's noticed something different about his behavior. Whatever that means. Just because she's caught him spending less and less time in his room to pursue outside activity doesn't give her the right to stick her nose wherever she pleases.

Rustling fabric. She sprawls herself out with a sigh, head placed in his lap and eyelids slipping shut.

Hotaro displays mild distaste in the form of pursed lips before his attention returns to the screen. He has half a mind to push her away, but truthfully, he can't bring himself to expend energy even for the sake of personal space. Fingers hover over the back button on the remote, still flipping away through channels without a care.

"You know you can talk to me about anything."

"Mm."

"Anything."

"Mm."

Aneki huffs and he feels pure accomplishment seize his chest. "I have the most boring little brother," she complains.

Boring? Well, he can accept that. He only hopes that the rest of the evening will pass in peace and quiet.

That's too much to ask for, of course.

"I've figured it out!" The hitch in her voice brings rise to unease in the brunet's countenance. He frowns as a furrow forms in his brow, gaze tearing from the screen to survey his sister. No words are needed; this brief pause is enough to encourage her and his regret levels reach maximum within 0.08 seconds.

In other words, not nearly enough time to dodge the hand squeezing his cheek.

"You're gay."

Her leer will haunt him for days.

For the record, he's not. And she knows he's not. There's no question about it―high school has left Hotaro confident about his preferences in spite of the wishy-washy demeanor each and every one of his acquaintances seem to get off on pointing out.

Reduced to a sullen child, face aflame, he shoves her hand away and mutters something along the lines of how annoying her voice is.

"Ara, ara, such a cute expression."

"Shut up already."

He can barely stand the laughter that invades his ears. Somehow, he's managed not to send her flying like last year's pity chocolate.
