A single spotlight illuminated a metal chair that stood in the dead center of the dark room. Four figures stood within the shadows. These were the Elites. The eldest and most appreciated students in Whammy's Academic Institute for the Gifted. One could say they... welcomed newcomers. It was a ritual. Every new student was initiated with a dare. A dare that they must fulfill, else they be socially outcasted and humiliated among the rest of the student body, among other unfavorable fates. The teachers and staff were ignorant of this ritual, as no one dared to break it by informing them, should something dreadful occur as a result. Among the four were the students that held the highest social ranking and were encompassed with popularity.

But that's besides the point, Ryuzaki just liked having many aliases.

In the dead center of the room, under the intense spotlight, sitting precariously on the cold metal chair, blindfolded, a boy- only thirteen years of age, but in actuality a freshman. He had clearly skipped a grade or two. His hair and clothes were like ice, as would the emotion in his dark eyes be, had they been uncovered, making his being especially bright in the luminescent circle.

The youngest male of the Elite spoke first. "Nate Rivers, known by the name of Near. Are you willing to accept your dare?"

The boy nodded, his face blank.

"Have we decided a dare?" The ebony haired female questioned to the rest of the group.

"It seems we have yet to determine one." Replied the oddest and oldest character of the group.

"We could have him be our servant." The brunette supposed.

"No... That won't do..." Countered the other male, biting his thumb, causing the brunette to scoff indignantly.

"We could make him do something embarrassing, say, streaking around campus?" Offered the renowned Miss Todai with a smirk.

The blonde of the group ignored her love rival. "Oh! Oh! I know! Let's make him dress up like a girl the whole semester!"

There was a silence as the other three members stared at the dumb blonde, shocked at her for actually coming up with something worthwhile, specifically compared to last time where she suggested the person eat cake. She supported her suggestion with the claim that it made people fat, therefore it was a 'great dare' but the other three just rolled their eyes.

"Very well," agreed male with jet black hair, popping a candy into his mouth.

"Well Near, looks like you have to pretend to be a girl for the semester. Do you accept?" Light asked slyly, knowing there was no way he couldn't accept it. That is, if he wanted to have anything close to a decent school year.

He nodded.

So, this was a little idea I had for a Mello X Near high school AU thing. I probably won't continue it but I decided to post it anyway in case I get a response and people actually want me to continue. It's just an intro so far and that's all it'll probably ever be but yea... Whaddya think? Let me know in a review!
