Te Fiti remembers Maui.

A young child, screaming for a mother that he didn't have, tossed and turned by the ocean.

"Leave him."

She remembers telling the ocean, the ocean that's swallowed so many already.

The ocean seems to laugh, and Te Fiti knows that it had never planned on hurting the child... the ocean always brings children to her, Mother Nature.

She watches him grow, always sending life where he is, trying to reassure him that she will always be there with him.

But he's too consumed by his quest to be loved to notice what's already there.

So when he comes to take her heart, she lets him.

She knows the prophecy, she knows that one will come who will teach Maui that he is loved.

That he was important.

So she lets herself become a monster, for a millenium.

To Te Fiti, a thousand years is only a breath, after all.

And then Maui comes back, with the girl who put a smile on his face.

Te Fiti remembers Maui.

She has never forgotten him.
