Bloom

Theirs was a waltz on tiptoe, the illusion of grace painted over fumbling feet. Where others heard the evolving clamor of bickering, Pegasus found only whispers. If the anger was real, he could accept it. If resentment was the defining factor, he'd understand. But Seto's sentiments were softened with sarcasm and the evasion of apologies that fixed nothing, but that Pegasus desperately needed to give all the same.

There was no telling why he stayed (came back?) but Pegasus let himself enjoy it as much as he could. What else was there to do?

They hid from everyone except each other.

"You're going to keep me here past midnight because you can't compromise a sword?" The engravings were excessively tedious to animate and, as usual, Pegasus wouldn't budge.

"The accuracy of the monsters is a selling point."

"What "accuracy?" There's no historical precedent."

"I'll have you know –"

"At least spare me the lecture." He slid two cups of coffee across the conference table and ignored Pegasus's dramatic sigh, "And give your over-achieving eyebrow a rest. This is going to take long enough as is."

Pegasus pouted, plucking his cup from the table, "You try keeping up with half a face."

"All this time I thought that's what the soliloquies were for."

"Are you implying I'm self-absorbed or talk too much?"

Seto took a long drink of coffee that had to burn his mouth, "I'd pay for the prosthetic if it'd shut you up every now and then."

"You're starting to wound me."

"Then surrender."

"Not on your life."

Seto dodged Pegasus's kiss to leave one of his own. "You're not going to butter me up that easily." Pegasus leaned back expecting a scoff edged dangerously like a smile, but it never came. Seto blinked at him, neutral and unimpressed, "I ordered it vanilla."

"The way I like it…" Pegasus trailed, confused.

"It's coconut."

"Human error is surprisingly delicious."

Seto stepped back to reclaim distance between them, "I really am leaving you."

Pegasus gave Seto the last word even as he left the blush along his collar that echoed, 'but not tonight.'
