Epilogue 2

July 31st 1996

It was a relatively humid day as the large mixed family gathered in the elegant garden of Potter manor, on the 31st of July. The sky was an azure blue without a cloud in sight as the sun glared down upon the gathering. Young teenagers frolicked in the medium sized swimming pool that was built into the middle of the garden with a small waterfall pouring down over the rocky side, giving the entire thing a lagoon effect. Most of the adults stood off to the side observing or deep in conversation with one another. At one of the small circular patio tables an elderly woman sat with her husband both of them savouring being with their entire extended family for a rare moment.

"It's strange", Harriet commented as she watched her younger self, or her alternative counterpart as she thought of her, giggle as Fred splashed her with water as they played in the pool. Hermione and Ron both stood nearby blushing every time they so much as glanced at each other in their swimsuits. It was both amusing and nostalgic to see her once best friends dancing around each other as she recalled them doing a lifetime ago for her now. "To think that on my sixteenth birthday all anyone could talk about was death and Voldemort but this is so much different. Better".

"It's because of you that this is even possible", Newt rubbed her hand with his wrinkled thumb. Suddenly a bowtuckle popped its head out of his shirt's pocket.

"Please tell me that there are no nifflers running about", she eyed him closely. Somehow she couldn't imagine James and Lily being too happy if any of Newt's 'friends' escaped and wrecked the place. She felt a pang at the thought. Even though Euphemia and Fleamont had passed years ago now from dragon pox, it still felt odd to think of this place as being their son's and not Fleamont, Charlus or Henry's anymore. Although she had tried desperately to save her brother and his wife, Harriet had been too late to prevent them from catching the disease and was only able to help research a cure after their deaths. Now she was the only one left from their generation, although she wasn't even really from their generation.

"I assure you I left my case at home. Jasmine is taking care of them today", he said referring to their sixty odd year old daughter who was still as adventurous as always and climbing mountains as though she was still a twenty year old. "Which is why she isn't here. But it looks like everyone else made it".

Not only were the entire Potter family there but as were the Scamanders including Theseus, Tina, their son and his seventeen year old boy Rolf along with Harriet and Newt's kids Tasmin, Edmund and Henry and their kids. Also in attendance were the Weasley family, the Lupins and Blacks. Harriet had been both happy and surprised when she had found herself witnessing her once godfather falling in love and marrying Marlene McKinnon and then having two children of their own as he worked his way up as an Auror. It was a complete opposite to the life he'd had when she'd met him and she was delighted for it. Remus and Tonks had found their way to one another once again and had just recently gotten married. She suspected it wouldn't be long before Teddy was born again though she did wonder if her teenage self would still become godmother.

"Aunt Harriet", she glanced up as her younger self, Harry, came rushing towards her with her jaw length hair a tangled wet mess around her head. It had been very easy to separate herself from Harry especially when the two looked so different. Age had changed her looks somewhat and she wore her now silver hair up in a bun while her counterpart was just a teenage girl of sixteen, still developing and wore her hair in a messy bob. She also had been lucky to be born with perfect vision and it made her look ever more different to her. They still had the same emerald green eyes but young Harry had never gotten the cursed scar on her forehead.

"What is it sweetie?"

"There's someone I want you to meet", Harry blushed and she immediately knew what was happening. Even though she had already suspected that this Harry was sneaking around with Fred Weasley and had been for a while, she sensed that the two of them had officially decided to come out as a couple. Even though it meant that James was likely to have an aneurysm since he had spent most of her life declaring that no boy was ever going to swoop in and steal her away from him. Harriet came out of her thoughts as Harry pulled Fred forwards.

"This is my boyfriend Fred Weasley. I know you've met him but I'm just reintroducing him to everyone as my boyfriend. He said I was too cowardly to tell everyone that we were together but I said it was for his own protection and he didn't believe me. So here I am and if dad flips and brings the marauders wrath down on him then that's Fred's problem for not listening to me".

Fred paled, his hazel eyes widening in horror. "Wait, you really think it will be that bad?" Harriet exchanged amused looks with Newt.

The younger Harry snorted. "My dad's the biggest drama queen on the planet next to Uncle Padfoot. It will be like the apocalypse in action".

"Err, maybe this isn't such a good idea then", Fred gave a look to his twin, probably hoping he'd set off some sort of distraction so he could escape. But George was too busy flirting with Harriet's great granddaughter to pay any mind to his brother.

"Oh don't be stupid. He'll find out eventually", Harriet cut in, rolling her eyes at the antics of the couple in front of her. "And he'll get over it. I'll threaten him if he crosses a line".

"Only if he crosses a line?" Fred squeaked.

"A little fear is healthy", Harriet smirked. Plus she knew from everyone else's conversations that he and George had been picking on Ron an extremely unfair amount and decided that both of them could use some humbling in the pranks department.

Harry looked at her in shock. "Aunt Harriet, you were supposed to be on my side. I'm named after you!"

"I am on your side, sweetie", Harriet commented and watched as her younger self raced after her boyfriend, who had presumably gone to hide somewhere.

"You are cruel sometimes. I don't really know where you get it from", Newt side eyed her and she shrugged.

"Someone has to pick up the mantle with Charlus and Fleamont gone".

"You still miss them. I don't know what I would do if Theseus wasn't around", Newt sympathised. It was true that she still missed her pseudo brothers. The two of them, Dorea, Euphemia and Henry and Willa had been the only ones in the family to know the truth about her too. She had already left a long letter to be given to James after she eventually passed which explained everything. She didn't particularly want to have to deal with the weirdness that would come if they knew who she was right now. It was just better this way.

"Speaking of your brother", Harriet's attention turned to Theseus' grandson Rolf who was off to the side and chatting animatedly with Luna Lovegood. In this timeline, Harry had known Ron since she was a child and often came over to the Burrow for play dates. She had met Luna when the blonde girl had come over to play with Ginny and thus they were friends a lot earlier than her fifth year. "Looks like his grandson is bonding with Luna. It's good to know some things were meant to be".

And she was right. Years later Luna would eventually go on to marry Rolf. By that point Newt had passed away and was unable to see the unique girl marry into their family, but Harriet had sat there with a smile, happy to see her friend find love with the same man, even if he had been born to a different grandfather.

Harriet had also lived to see Harry marry Fred, Ron and Hermione marry and even Sirius' youngest son marry a muggle born wizard. Sadly she passed away before she got to see any of their children born but no one in the family ever forgot her or what she did. The truth of her identity was revealed with her letter and became a Potter family secret.

"And that's how great Aunt Harriet saved the world", Harry spoke quietly to her four year old twin boys, James Sirius and Newt Frederick as she read them to sleep. The story of Harriet Potter the first was one that was requested by her kids almost every night. And she was happy to oblige them since it was the least she could do to keep her Aunt's memory aliveā€¦herself alive, which was a really weird thought. When her parents had sat her down and gave her Harriet's letter she had thought it had been some sort of prank at first. But then they had opened up the Potter family book and seen the names branch off. Her name was attached to Harriet's in a strange silver line that didn't look anything like any other in the book. Both their names linked to her parents and grandparents making it an undeniable fact.

Thinking of the letter made her think of the life she could have had and she felt herself shiver. Honestly Harry didn't want to imagine a life where she had never known her parents, had seen death and fought in a war, lost friends, lost her godfather, her uncle Moony and witnessed her husband die. Even though Aunt Harriet had been happy in the end and content with her life, she just couldn't even imagine having to live through most of what she had done and come out the other side stronger than ever. It made her aspire to try to become more like that woman as much as possible.

"Mummy, do you think Aunty Ari is watching over us?" Newt asked sleepily through a yawn.

"I certainly like to think so. And uncle Newt too I imagine. As well as all those beautiful beasts of his", Harry chuckled, giving her sons a kiss on the top of their head each. "I imagine that the two of them are looking over at you and making bets on which Hogwarts house you'll be in". It had been something that the two had done when Harry was still a kid about to go to school for the first time, along with all her cousins and their friends.

"I want to be a Hufflepuff like uncle Newt", his namesake yawned, tiredness beginning to make his eyes droop.

"Nah, I wanna be a Gryffindor like Aunt Ari", James said, also sounding extremely groggy.

"Alright you two. Sleepy time now. Love you both more than the stars", Harry bent down and give her sons a kiss on the forehead before heading downstairs. After her Aunt Harriet's death, the old woman had left the cottage that she and Newt had spent their married lives together in, to her and Fred. They moved in shortly before the twins were born and Harry had ended up having a home birth with Hannah Abbot as her healer.

She entered the cosy living room that they had redecorated a year ago and found Fred snoozing on the armchair with their one year old daughter, Lily Luna, in his arms. Unlike her older brothers who had Harry's hair and eyes, she took after her dad's side of the family with red hair and brown eyes but still shared their penchant for mischief. All of her accidental magic so far had been turning people's hair different colours or throwing food at people's faces over dinner. Just last night when her parents had come over for dinner, her dad had ended up with dessert covering his entire face and glasses. This was before he stood up and proudly declared that she was a future marauder in the making.

Harry bent down to scoop her daughter up from Fred to take her up to bed but her actions caused her husband to wake, his hazel eyes dazed with sleep. "Wassgoinon?"

"Sorry, I'm just taking the little madam up to bed. It's getting way past her bedtime", she raised a black eyebrow at him pointedly.

"I'll take her, you just sorted the boys out", Fred insisted. She smirked as she watched him carry Lily out of the room, holding her tightly. All of their family often pointed out that he was such a baby hog. Harry knew it was because Lily was his first and so far only girl. He was wrapped around her little finger. George mocked him for it but Angelina had told her in confidence that the two of them were expecting a little girl. Karma was a bitch.

Harry slumped down into the cosy armchair that she had claimed as hers ever since they had moved into the cottage, particularly when she was pregnant and her back was killing her. She put her feet up on the small footstool and closed her eyes.

She felt a rush of gratitude towards her Aunt Harriet for the life that she was able to have because of her sacrifice. Harry wouldn't change her current life for anything. She had a job she loved as an investigate reporter (something that had seemingly stunned her older self for some reason), a husband she couldn't live without and three beautiful kids that would grow up in a world free of darkness and fear. At least unless another dark lord rose but she refused to think like that. Everything that she had, she owed to Harry. She was going to make sure that she repaid the woman that she could have been by living her life to the fullest.

No regrets.

THE END.
