I Need Some Time

A groan led Shinichi out of sleep. The detective weakly forced an eye open from the intense dream he couldn't recall. He was on his stomach which seemed to be a bad position for him and upon his attempt to reposition he noticed the arm laying across his back. He turned his head and stared at the magician asleep next to him.

He felt like he was waking up from a hangover without the headache. His body was pleasantly relaxed but sore at the same time. He felt mildly mortified and disgusted that he felt the stickiness from blood and other bodily fluids and Kaito didn't look any better. The magician's hair was clumped randomly with blood which made his already wild hair look crazier. There was still blood on his face and neck which Shinichi vaguely remembered rubbing blood all over the magician since he didn't have the chance to clean his hands after trying to stop Kaito from bleeding out.

He turned onto his side and Kaito pulled him closer. He reached out and scratched a flake of dried blood from Kaito's cheek and he nearly gagged. What was he doing?!

He jumped as a hand circled his wrist and he was greeted by a playful violet iris shining through the crack of a tired eyelid and an irritatingly sexy smile. "Having fun?" The magician asked serenely.

"I was until you ruined it," Shinichi replied and brought his hand back to his chest.

Kaito laughed, "if we were in an anime, I'm sure I would be able to see your disgust lines."

"Are you an idiot?" Shinichi threw the blankets off and hobbled to the bathroom.

He used the toilet and wasn't surprised to see Kaito standing in the threshold staring.

"Can you stop staring?" Shinichi muttered as he washed his hands.

Kaito came over and pressed against his back and Shinichi blushed as he felt Kaito's dick press against his ass, "I'm sure I did more than stare last night."

The detective pushed him away with a deep blush on his face, "can you not?"

Kaito shrugged, "want to shower?"

"Can I do it alone?" Shinichi asked as he turned back to the sink.

"What do you think?"

Shinichi sighed heavily, "I forgot how much of a pain you are."

"Oh, but yet, this pain can still turn you to putty, Great Detective," Kaito purred as he trailed his fingers across the detective's naked stomach and pressed his lips to the back of Shinichi's neck.

The detective shivered violently and he opened his mouth to protest but it only came out as a squeak as Kaito sank his fangs into the crook of his shoulder, right where he laid his mark the night before.

He tried to keep his eyes open and somehow he glanced into the mirror and he was enamored by the glow of Kaito's violet eyes staring right through him.

It was too much and he gasped as Kaito touched him. He brought one hand up to grab at Kaito's hair and the other to push away the hand that was stroking his dick but a moan escaped his lips and he went along with the motion.

He didn't know how he managed to get bent over the sink but he cried into the mirror as Kaito plowed his ass once again. He closed his eyes, embarrassed at the sight of his face in the reflection but Kaito pulled him back and lifted his chin.

"Don't look away," Kaito breathed in his ear, "I want you to see how I make you feel."

Shinichi moaned as tears slid down his cheeks. He tossed his head back as Kaito pounded a good spot in him but the vampire had a hand around his dick teasing him closely to orgasm before pulling away.

"Please," the detective whispered as he reached down but Kaito grabbed his hands and held them behind his back.

Kaito bent him halfway and his knees shook as Kaito plowed deep, drawing moans from his lips and tears from his eyes.

He shivered as he felt Kaito's dick twitch inside of him as he came. He cried out as he was filled up and Kaito's arm wrapped around his waist as his knees went weak.

They both breathed heavily and Shinichi's knees trembled as Kaito's dick slid out of his ass and with it followed an exorbitant amount of cum.

He didn't want to believe in any of the science fiction he had experienced over the last few weeks, but the bubbly feeling that built in his stomach as Kaito turned him around and kissed his with such passion made him think that there was some magical force he should have started to believe in. "You're mine," Kaito muttered against his lips and a feeling deep inside him grew warm and happy hearing those words.

He reluctantly pushed Kaito away as his adrenaline died down and stumbled to turn on the shower. He stepped into the cold spray and leaned his head on the wall, thankful that he was already naked. He looked down and watched as the water periodically turned pink as he washed away the dried blood from his skin.

Kaito stepped in beside him and Shinichi's hands rubbed across the magician's back as he took over the shower. Kaito turned to face him as the water ran down his face and Shinichi sighed as he ran his hands through Kaito's flattened hair. Kaito stared at him with such love and it gave him butterflies and also dread.

They cleaned up in near silence and it gave Shinichi time to think. The magician claimed him, okay. It wasn't as bad as he thought. He thought he would feel different, wrong, but everything felt right. More right than he wanted it to. He sighed as he rubbed shampoo through his hair. What now? Did he just continue as he was? Kaito offered to change him into a vampire to get his body back but what if it didn't work? Would he be stuck in his kid body for the rest of eternity? He shivered, he'd rather die.

"Shin-chan?" He blinked as Kaito lifted his chin and the detective closed his eyes to avoid looking at that beautiful face. He didn't like whatever this feeling was. It was too powerful of a feeling to bear. It pooled in his stomach and travelled up through his chest into his throat.

He gasped and swallowed hard, hoping the sound was drowned out by the running water but Kaito's arms wrapped around his back and pressed their bodies together. Shinichi shivered and dropped his hands from running shampoo through his hair. Kaito's hands replaced his and he stood and allowed the magician to finish washing his hair.

He didn't know what to think. He rubbed his fingers across Kaito's abdomen around the area where he had a bullet embedded within the previous night and gritted his teeth. Before now, he was fueled by logic and science but slowly, Kaito was tearing down his walls and it frightened him. Vampires didn't exist. They were beings created in a fairytale.

He glanced at Kaito's face and the magician grinned back at him with fangs on show and he lowered his head again and let the shower spray rinse out the water in his hair.

Vampires weren't real. They couldn't be.

They spent longer in the shower than Shinichi expected. It was nearing eleven which meant the antidote would be wearing off within the next hour.

They dressed in silence. Kaito lent his clothes since they were about the same size but with Kaito being a bit taller and a bit more muscular from scaling skyscrapers for his night job, the hems of the pants trailed along the floor and only his long, slender fingers were visible from the sleeves of the shirt.

He grumbled in the mirror as Kaito chuckled somewhere behind him.

They went to the kitchen together and Jii had returned and just placed breakfast on the table when they entered.

"Good morning Jii-chan," Shinichi greeted as he sat. A little wave of panic ran through him as it felt like a knife was driven through his heart and he gripped his shirt.

The magician looked at him and he avoided Kaito's eyes again and stared down at his plate. He pushed away from the table and he mumbled out an excuse for the bathroom. His breath came quicker as he entered the bathroom and closed the door. He fell to his knees and pressed a hand to his chest. He felt like a cinderblock had been placed on top of his lungs. He sucked in a breath and forced it out, trying to urge away the panic that built inside him. Another involuntary whine built in his throat and he jumped as there was a knock on the door.

"Shin-chan, are you okay?." Kaito called.

"No!" Shinichi called back. His heart thumped heavily in his chest and he couldn't stop the scream that escaped his throat.

Kaito leaned against the door as he listened to his mate's pained screams from inside the bathroom and sighed. It happened sooner than he thought.

When it finally went silent, he knocked again and his mate's annoyed child voice called through, "I need different clothes."

Kaito chuckled, blocking his own annoyance, "of course."

Kaito glanced up at the child across from him, eating his breakfast in grim silence. He noticed Shinichi glancing at him when he wasn't looking and it amused him to no end. He would allow the detective to stare at him for a few moments before lifting his eyes and the small detective would immediately avert his eyes.

Conan put his fork down and jumped down from his chair to put his emptied plate in the sink. Kaito watched the boy leave to go into the living room and he finished off his food to go into the living room as well.

"Can you take me back to Beika now?" He was asked almost immediately and he smiled.

"Ready to leave me already?" Kaito asked with a smile.

Although Conan didn't answer, Kaito could feel his answer in the air. The detective brought his child clothing with him so he could just go straight to the agency. It frustrated Kaito how prepared the detective had been.

Kaito came to sit next to the detective and he was subtly pleased the boy didn't move away. "So—"

"I need some time," Conan said immediately without room for argument. "I need time to think this through and think about this future with you."

"Don't you think it's a bit too late for that?" Kaito asked as he brushed his fingers over his mark on Conan's shoulder.

Conan shrugged his hand away, "no, I don't." Kaito was met with emotional blue eyes, "now that you're not in immediate danger of dying, I think we have all the time in the world."

Kaito swallowed and ran a hand through his hair, "alright, I'll take you back."

Kaito laid his head on his desk and stared out the window. Two weeks until summer break. Two weeks since he had seen his little lover. He took his small detective home and had not heard a peep since.

He tried to keep the irritation he'd been feeling and the thirst under control but he craved the presence of his lover. Something wiggled in the back of his brain urging him to just take Shinichi from wherever he was and keep him by his side and never let go. He squashed down those thoughts. His little lover said he needed time to think and Kaito wasn't so heartless that he was going to force something so permanent such as vampirism on Shinichi no matter how badly his body screamed at him that he should turn Shinichi as soon possible.

Was it because he was more vulnerable as a human? He could lose Shinichi more easily as a human and with the detective not being in his sight at all times, it gave him nagging anxiety that tugged at his heart. He closed his eyes and sighed heavily. He didn't have an answer and he couldn't get a hold of his mother for answers. Jii tried to give him as much help and advice as he could, but being only a noble vampire, he did not have all the answers and he claimed he was not anymore versed about the topic as Kaito because Toichi didn't give him much information about it.

"Kaito, you've been awfully quiet," Aoko said as she approached his desk. He turned his head to look at her and Aoko suddenly screamed as a burst of air blew her skirt up.

"Pale blue is it today, Aoko?" He grinned and her face turned bright red as she produced a mop from nowhere.

"To think I was actually worried about you, Bakaito!" She yelled as she chased him around the room, swinging the mop around.

"Where do you even keep that thing?" Kaito laughed as he dodged her swing, "you'd make a good magician, Nakamori-chan!"

He heard his phone ring and he disappeared in a puff of smoke. He heard Aoko's aggravated screams and laughed as he walked down the hallway and brought his phone to his ear.

"Hello?"

"KID-san," the usual infuriatingly, condescending voice he was used to hearing was full of emotion and anger.

"Ojou-chan," Kaito greeted gently, "what a pleasant surprise."

"You are an idiot!" She screamed, "you mated with him and then you left him alone! Do you not know how this works? Are you a stupid king?"

"What happened?" Kaito asked as he gripped his phone tightly.

"He begged me not to call you," she huffed, "he slowly deteriorated but he hid it well until a few days ago when he collapsed in class. His fever is high and he shows signs of starvation even though he's human. I'm surprised you don't have any symptoms from being away from your mate."

Kaito sighed, a sudden feeling of dread squeezing his throat, "I will come over soon."

"You can't," she denied, "he is with his caretakers right now."

"Do you think that will stop me?"

He heard Haibara's heavy sigh from the other side and a long pause before she spoke again, "if you're going to kidnap him from there, bring him to me first."

Conan was awakened from his fevered haze by a bump. He squinted his eyes open and was not surprised to see himself in the arms of the last person he wanted to see.

He met Kaito's eyes and he was a little irked at the smile that was bestowed upon him. He couldn't keep his eyes open much longer and unwillingly let them close.

When he woke again, he could have sworn that his mother was standing over him. He didn't stay awake long enough to find out, however.

Kudo Yukiko was a little irritated that her husband couldn't be with her at that moment but she smiled at Kaito as she closed the door to the room that housed her son.

"Will he get better?" She asked.

"I want to give reassuring news but it seems as though I've made a terrible mistake. I realized that claiming a mate would halt the degeneration process of my body but I did not realize that if my mate was human, their body would begin to degenerate unless turned." Kaito was angry at himself for not realizing it sooner. He should have been listening to his instincts before now. They were telling him that Shinichi was dying and he ignored them.

"So you don't have a choice? I wanted him to stay human as long as possible." She sighed as she crossed her arms.

"Did you feel the same about yourself and your husband?" Kaito asked lightly and Yukiko pouted.

"Come now Kai-chan, you can't possibly use that against me."

Kaito smiled a bit smugly at her, "my father told me that he hated the thought of forcing the life of a vampire onto someone. Despite that, he told me a story of an accident he was involved in and two people he cared deeply about were in the car with him and he made the selfish choice to turn them into creatures like himself so that they could live longer lives with their son. He told me that I should never want to turn another human into a vampire unless it was the most necessary course of action."

Yukiko stared at a spot on the floor and sighed again, "that Toichi was always so clever. We hadn't the slightest clue of the existence of vampires until the night of that accident. Yuusaku made the choice for me when Toichi gave him the choice of dying or staying young and beautiful forever with each other with the curse of only being able to survive with blood." Yukiko touched her lips, "although I didn't have the choice to decide, I have been able to adapt well to this life. I don't know if I want Shin-chan to experience this, even though I don't want to lose him. He will not have a choice either."

"I don't want to lose him either," Kaito reassured her, "but he is far stronger than you know."

"Can I do it?" She inquired and Kaito smiled with a shake of his head.

"As he is my mate, it would be better suited for me to turn him. He will be better acclimated to my blood and as you are always traveling, you will not be able to feed him regularly."

Yukiko nodded in understanding and Kaito put a hand on her shoulder, "don't worry so much, Kudo-san. I will take good care of him. You have my word."

She smiled and fell into his kind smile, "oh, how you've grown Kai-chan." She brushed away a tear, "okay, let me kiss him goodbye."

Kaito nodded and she disappeared back into the room. He walked over to a window and stared out at nothing in particular. He could understand saying goodbye. Shinichi Kudo was about to lose a very important part of himself.

He turned at the quiet sound of feet on the carpet and he met Haibara's narrowed eyes.

"How long have you been planning this?" She asked accusingly.

"Whatever do you mean, Ojou-chan?"

"Calling his mother to come? If this plan of mine doesn't work, how will you explain?"

Kaito looked back out of the window for a few moments before he smirked, "I anticipated that you would try to use a temporary antidote and my blood to give him his normal body back. If it mutates and holds his cells where they need to be, does it matter? If it doesn't work, then I can get Yukiko-san to reassign his living situation to a place where I have better control until we do get his body back."

He watched Haibara roll her eyes in the reflection of the glass and chuckled, "don't worry so much, Ojou-chan, I have it all figured out."

"That may be so but you're still trying to toy with a life that doesn't belong to you."

Yukiko walked out of the room with wet eyes and Haibara turned on her heel and went into the room.

"Kai-chan, I'm going to go retire for the night. Please let me know how everything goes." Kaito turned to Yukiko and he was surprised when she gave him a quick hug, "I am putting my trust in you. Please take care of my Shin-chan."

"I will not let you down," Kaito nodded.

Kaito saw her out and when he returned Haibara was waiting. "It's time."

He nodded and entered the room, and shut the door behind him.
