Author's Notes: If you read this, it is my humble request for you to review this so that I can make necessary changes. Sorry for the very very late update. I own none of the Naruto canon characters.
BTW: If anyone has a problem with me overpowering every character, let me clarify: that is the point of this story- what would happen if everyone was way too op. This story is not only about 'Naruto if he had the Rinnegan'. Yes, that is a major part of the story, but not the story. The story is also about the interactions of op people with each other, when everyone can destroy the continent, but everyone lives on the damn place, it gets you to think, wouldn't there be more tension between nations? Wouldn't everyone think hundreds of times before acting? And if they acted, wouldn't they have to act with more finesse?
Not just the mc is op in this story. Because if its only the mc, there's no challenge, no sense of danger, if you're invincible. Yes, there are people like Madara, kaguya, pein and yes, they bring that tension, but only when the mc isn't too op, only when the mc is regular. Adult Naruto would have easily defeated Madara and Kaguya if they fought like they did in 4th war. Remember how Naruto in an extremely weakened state turned Boruto's Rasengan into a gigantic Rasengan, without breaking a sweat. That Rasengan killed momoshiki.
Naruto is too op. In op fanfics, many people end up giving Naruto the Rinnegan or make him too op without making others op. That by itself makes him nigh invincible. It gives him so many abilities. Yes, they take time for him to reach that stage, but once mc is that powerful, there's no real challenge.
An analogy: Wouldn't the 2nd world war have been more tense if even Germany and Japan had their own nukes, didn't happen luckily, if they did, America would have thought a thousand times more than they did before launching nukes. The war would be different. And perhaps slightly more interesting. While it might seem like only mc and characters close to mc are op, I assure you, that is not the case. You will see in the upcoming chapters that everyone is op.
But enough of my drabbles.
This is the chapter from which the story truly deviates from canon.
Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden are owned by Pierrot Studios and TV Tokyo. This is a non-profit fanfiction
Naruto and Mito left Konoha a week after their date. They set out first for the easiest place- uzushiogakure, a city in ruins.
The seals in there wouldn't be easy to break but the seals hidden within those would be worth the hard work.
It took them eight hours at medium speed to reach the place. Not the village itself, but the whirlpools around it. The whirlpools were enhanced by seals, as expected and the seals weren't a walk in the park. But, unlike what they had expected, the seals also worked against flying things-susanoo. When they tried to fly above, a hurricane was formed fast enough to throw them back out. Even amenotejikara wasn't too helpful. It only helped him go to places within his eyesight or places which he had a clear image of. And there was a highly chakra enhanced mist preventing him from seeing anything near the island.
So, they started to set up a camp in the place.
"The seal doesn't show up on the waters, so the seal matrix must be under water." said Naruto.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" asked Mito
"Underwater susanoo!" exclaimed Naruto.
"What?! NO! It's too chakra intensive and unnecessary. I was thinking that one of us go underwater and do it but, yeah I guess underwater susanoo works just as fine. "
"Aren't they the same thing?" asked Naruto.
"Well,... I guess you are right. They are almost the same thing but you just wanna spend chakra and look cool." she answered.
"You do know that we need oxygen underwater and we wouldn't get that if we just went in, but susano would give us oxygen, don't you?"asked Naruto
"Yeah, you're right" admitted Mito.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's do it!" said Naruto.
The both of them flared their susanoo and went underwater.
The seal matrix was on the sea floor which was about half a mile deep.
The pressure of water around them was no joke. If it was any other shinobi, they would not have survived this far down for so long.
Naruto and Mito started to examine the seal matrix. There were eight complexes here, and each one intertwined with all the other six. This added structural integrity but also meant that to cut off one complex with the other six, they'd have to cut off all the connections it had. And of the seven complexes, the first had the job of creating any connections that were destroyed.
It's complexes were also each separate from each other such that if one fell, the others wouldn't be affected, but such that if one complex were to fall, the others would be able to do the same function by themselves. Each complex was in itself the same seal repeated with a marker which told which complex to do what. The complete disconnection of one complex meant that it's marker was disconnected and that would cause that marker to appear in all the other complexes. This was done by the second complex.
The third had the job of drawing nature chakra from the water around them and also absorb all energy from the sun that reached the water surface by instantly conerting it to chakra and also store it.
The fourth had the responsibility of causing the whirlpool and aerial prevention of entry.
The fifth was responsible for repair of the complexes, if one were to wreck anything. The sixth was responsible for defense. The seventh was responsible for making the water frictionless, without any viscosity. The last one was responsible for letting people in. It took into account the amount of Uzumaki DNA a person had in them. and also allowed for a pureblood Uzumaki to add a genome that the seal decided was not Uzumaki enough to let them in.
Naruto was baffled by looking at all of this. He knew what the things were, but he knew neither how to make the seal or break it.
So he was gonna use his ability and just absorb the seal. Sadly for him, things just didn't work out that well. The seal got absorbed but there was an underlying seal connecting the multiple seals used for all the whirlpools which regenerated any destroyed seals. This meant he'd have to absorb everything in here together. The seals were too vast and spread over an extremely large area to do that.
He told Mito, "Let's leave and come back with a better understanding of seals."
She agreed and the both of them tried swimming back up but chains erupted from the ground and held them down. Naruto teleported the both of them back up above the surface.
They were met with an incredibly powerful super hurricane. All of a sudden, they were hit with with the chains again and this time, gravity seals appeared on them, increasing the force on them thousand fold and they were forced back to the ocean floor whereupon the chains formed a network around them and a seal locking their chakra appeared on them binding them down.
A ghost appeared in front of them. "Hello young ones"
"Who are you?" asked Mito.
"I am the ghost of Uzumaki Kani."
"Why should we care?" asked Naruto. This ghost might be his only shot at entering the village. He could escape at any point and come back years later with a proper understanding of seals by teleportation, but if he got the chance to enter now, he was taking it.
"Because I'm the only one who can help you out."
"You know how to break the seal?" asked Naruto with hope in his eyes.
"I do. I also know how to let you in without breaking the seal." said Kani.
"With what strings attached?"
To that, Kani gave Naruto an amused look. He said, "For letting you in, you're gonna have to resurrect me."
"Why would I do that? Moreover, how would I do that?" Naruto asked.
"With your Naraka path obviously." answered Kani like it wasn common sense.
"It's a soul for a soul. I can't just bring you back to life." said Naruto
"I know. Even fish will do the work. 2 dolphins, 500 sharks, a thousand goldfish, all the plankton in this lake... 2 dogs, 2 foxes, any two mammals, even rats... any two birds... five reptiles, 50 amphibians or a 100-1000 fish. You could take two rats. Simplest. They're pests too."
"How are 2 rats equal to a human? Moreover, how are they worth more than snakes, toads, slugs, etc?"
"Rats are quite smart kiddo. While not powerful, they behave write similar to humans. They're also mammals like us. For value of souls you don't look at physical power of organisms. I'll explain it to you with the example of a crocodile. The same applies for snakes, toads, slugs, etc. I'm taking regular animals not summons here.
You look at mental capacity to value souls. What's the use of you're gigantic and powerful and nigh invincible if the only things you are capable of thinking is eating, sleeping and mating. A crocodile is only capable of these. But a rat is also capable of parenting unlike crocodiles. Rats care about their offspring. Crocodiles won't. That shows you that rats are more valuable than crocs. Rats also have better memories than crocodiles. They can also solve problems, unlike crocodiles. A rat can solve a large maze, a crocodile can't do more than one turn. Too many turns will overwhelm a crocodile and he'll never solve it. Any reptile or lesser animal can't solve mazes or puzzles. So yeah, a rat is worth more than snakes, toads, slugs, etc."
"Okay. Fine. Rats are with more than noon mammals. I get it. Bow where am I to get 2 rats in here?" asked Naruto.
Meanwhile Mito, who was listening to the both of them talk was perplexed at the fact that Naruto was willing to trust this guy. She was also angry that he didn't think it necessary to even look at her for agreement let alone advise. What was he thinking, just running into this without even consulting her.
Kani was about to say something but was interrupted by Mito.
She said, "Hey, Kani, why should we trust you? How do we know that you won't just leave us here and go away?"
"You can't. But if you wanna get out, you need my help. It's not like you can get out without me."
"How about this, you let us into the village, and we can ressurect you there." said Naruto. Mito was about to protest but Naruto looked at her with a look that said, 'I can take care of this'. So she kept quiet.
Kani asked, "And why should I trust you?"
Mito said, "We're caught up over here. If we can't get past this, there's probably no way we can get through the defenses within the village without your help. So yeah, we have reason to keep you with us."
Kani thought about it and said, "You do need me afterwards, but the question is, why do I need you outside this lake? You can't get out without me, can you? So you need me more urgently. And I have no need of you afterwards. So tell me why I should let you out before you resurrect me?"
"There is no sacrifice here." answered Naruto
"The girl!" answered Kani. Naruto and Mito were not too surprised by that statement. Thet kinda expected it.
"How long would it take for you to break the seal, once I ressurect you?"
"You still think you can rescue don't you? You think that I'll just tell you how long it'll take to break the seal? You think that this information will somehow help you escape, don't you? You think that you can talk me up for the small amout of time that it takes to break it, let me tell you something boy, it can't be broken in a short span of time and you will run out of oxygen before you can do it. Besides, you don't even know how to break this seal anyway. And as long as you are on earth, this seal will bring you back here assuming that you would be able to break the anti-teleportation seal complex" said Kani.
Naruto had not known that there was an anti-teleportation seal complex but he would work around it.
"You know, I'm sick of you testing me as if you were at a better position than i am at. Let me tell you something, you're not!"
Naruto used Naraka path and summoned the King of Hell and caused it to consume him, thus breaking free of all the seals instantly.
To Kani, who couldn't see the king of hell, it seemed as if Naruto was teleporting. He gasped as Naruto came out completely unharmed. Soon, even Mito dissappeared and came back, both of them cloaked in susanoo's.
Naruto said, "Who is at a disadvantage now, Uzumaki Kani-san?"
Kani said, "This doesn't affect anything. Now you just have to bring sacrifices. I'm still not letting you in before you resurrect me."
"No. You will do as we say because we are at an advantage here."
In a moment chakra tendrils ruptured the seabed underneath Kani and captured him.
He looked at Naruto and she'd, "How? I'm supposed to be in a completely different phase."
Naruto answered, "The Rinnegan allows to screw over people like you you a*hole!"
He summoned the King Of Hell to get Kani to tell them how to break the seal.
Kani saw the king of hell and the moment he saw it, he started laughing like a maniac. The King of Hell wasn't working.
He said, "The King of Hell has no effect on me. there are multiple seals preventing that. You wanna know how, I've worked with your grandfather on it. There's no way you're using this to make me talk, b*tch!"
Naruto tried using genjutsu. But even that didn't work.
Kani continued, "Genjutsu won't work either, kiddo. There are multiple seals on my body preventing genjutsu affecting the brain. Specifically made to screw you Uchiha over! So you can take that genjutsu and shove it up your *!"
A bunch of chakra chains erupted from Kani's back and cut through all the chakra tendrils holding him down. He said, "You want a battle, you get a battle. Let me tell you something- You picked a fight with the wrong guy!"
"Suiton: Cho Uzu Bakuhatsu!" [Water style: Giant Vortex Explosion] screamed Kani as a giant vortex of water hit Naruto and Mito who easily escaped the jutsu and replied with their own giant vortex explosions.
Kani just phased through the vortexes of Naruto and Mito. Kani said, "You're good, but I'm better."
Kani unsealed his sword, and even his chains changed shape to have swords at their ends.
Naruto in return unsheathed his own sword, with it migrating to the sword his susano was wielding instantly. The chakra coming from it didn't even faze Kani who had seen Tajima wield that blade.
Mito's Susanoo also materialized a sword.
Kani said incredulously, "You expect to even touch me a those ginormous slow blades? You want a chance at beating me, you'll have to fight me, you'll have to fight me without any Susanoo. Oh wait, you'd die out of lack of oxygen, how sad."
Naruto said, "You're right, I need to fight you without anything. SHINRA TENSEI!"
It seperated the water upto the surface. Before the water could come back, Naruto shot for chakra rods and formed a red barrier to keep the water from following back. He then dissolved his susano and got in the ground, ready to destroy Kani.
Mito who'd stuck to the ground using chakra, soon followed suite. Naruto and Mito stood across Kani.
Kani snorted and said, "If there's no whirlpool, then there's a super hurricane, you should've learnt that when you were analysing the seal matrix. Though I guess you can be excused cause you're so dumb."
And just like he said, there was a super hurricane where there would have been a whirlpool making it extremely hard for Naruto and Mito to stick to the ground.
Initially it had started because of the air rushing to fill in the vacuum created by Naruto's shinra tensei, had been strong but weak in comparison to the one ensuing in a short span of ten seconds, with each passing second, it had become stronger and stronger until it was a super hurricane of magnitude hitherto undreamt of.
Every second in the hurricane was like being subjected to Naruto's SHINRA TENSEI, which he just used.
Kani was unaffected by all this and said, "Air is a thousand times lighter than water. Thus, also a thousand times faster. Viscosity in air is also negligible. All these factors cause a hurricane to exert more force on you than a whirlpool even though the same amount of energy is put into both. I feel bad for the both of you. If you want to attack me, you have to be in this dimension. But if you want stability in this hurricane, you need to go to Kamui. A pity that you can't attack me from there."
Naruto cursed his luck but he had a final ace up his sleeve. He used limbo clones to capture Kani.
Kani waited for Naruto to make a move, then looking at Naruto's expression which said, 'face this', he said, "Is something supposed to happen?"
Then upon looking at Naruto's scrunched up facial expression of, 'WTF is happening?' he said, "Wait a minute, I think something is happening to me," he grabbed his chest, coughed a little, as if he were choking up. Naruto was not pleased cause his clones weren't stabbing Kani at all and this just meant Kani was mocking his failure.
Then Kani started laughing and said, "Limbo does not work on me. Limbo in essence is just shadow clones from another dimension attacking me here. From what you have gathered yourself, only chakra, I believe six paths chakra and probably sage chakra works on me. Not physical attacks. Those don't work on me. And limbo is physical.
So yeah, you have how many ways of attacking me? One, and you can't even use it that well. I pity Izuna. He has such a dumb kid for his heir."
Physical attacks didn't work- that ruled out most of his attacks.
But he had quite a few attacks that were pure chakra. Like the giant beast bomb, and Rasengan. So he formed a giant Rasengan and to it, he added six paths chakra to it with amaterasu. It formed into a giant Rasengan with a ring around it- like Saturn. Naruto called it Amaterasu Rasen-Yubiwa.[Spiralling Ring]
Kani started laughing at that and said, "You can hit me with it all right. But it won't destroy me. I'm similar to an Edo Tensei in this regard. I instantly heal any damge that is dealt to me."
He was right in front of Naruto the next moment and told Naruto, "hit me with it!"
Naruto obliged, thinking that just like an Edo Tensei, even Kani wouldn't heal from Six paths chakra wounds.
But what he saw was that Kani wasn't lying after all. He was hit by the darn thing, ripped to shreds multiple times, scream in pain as the jutsu burnt through his chakra coils. But once it was done, Kani was healed back to normal in a moment's notice.
"If you want to kill me, then you have to bring me back to life, but sadly for you, I won't let that happen. The both of you will be my sacrifices as I come back to life, and I will take the eyes of both of you."
Mito told Naruto, "Let's leave now to somewhere else."
Naruto agreed and the both of them simultaneously left to Naruto's Kamui.
Naruto stopped channeling chakra to the chakra rods he had left in the seabed causing the water around Kani to flow back and create another whirlpool around the super hurricane. The kiddo had created an abomination he'd die facing.
Meanwhile, with Naruto and Mito,
"I absolutely hate this guy!" exclaimed Naruto, "Nothing hurts this guy. Not even six paths chakra. Genjutsu doesn't work, King of Hell doesn't work, physical attacks don't work. What does?!!"
"Seals would," said Mito.
"This guy's obviously a better sealer than us. There's no way we're beating him at seals. And by the way, why does he know my granddad so well, and yet I haven't even heard this guy's name! There's something off about this guy!"
"We just need to keep him stationary for as long as it takes to resurrect him. Then we can kill him." said Mito
"You say it as if it's that easy." said Naruto
"It is easy. If we use Rasengan with amaterasu and six paths chakra again, he'll be immobile for the duration of the time when his chakra network is being burnt and destroyed to the cellular level. And we can ressurect him in that time frame. Then we get him to tell us how to break the seals using king of hell. Both the seals on the seabed and the one on his mind." said Mito.
"He could still lie and die. We need a fail proof idea. We could use limbo instead. And we don't know what his sword does. It might be extremely powerful. Maybe powerful enough to deflect all our attacks." said Naruto.
"Unlikely. But we can't rule out the possibility." said Mito.
"We'll just do it best to hit him with Amaterasu Rasen-Yubiwa [Amaterasu Spiralling Ring]. Then resurrect him and get rid of him." said Naruto. He continued, "Now let's go get a bandit whose about to do something really bad, for which we'd have killed him anyway. We can't be sure that Kani telling us about animal sacrifices being true."
"Well, we can come up with something better on the way"
About half an hour later, at the seabed,
Naruto and Mito flew in to see the super hurricane whirlpool that had been formed. They reached the center of the hurricane where there was competitively low wind speed, which was still mind numbingly fast, to meet Kani.
Naruto said, "You can surrender now, or we can do it the hard way"
Kani broke the silence, "The hard way, huh? I take it you brought me a human sacrifice?"
Naruto snorted and asked, "Why do you think that?"
"Reviving me would give you the advantages that you'd gain via limbo clones and the king of hell. And all the abilities of the Rinnegan which you can't use now. So if I were you, my first objective would be to revive me.
Nice thinking. Thus you must have a sacrifice with you right now. You were also away for more than an hour, so you either cooked up some elaborate strategy and got two rats, or, not having believed me that rats work, you went in search of a human sacrifice, but you are a 'good guy' so you looked for someone who actually deserved to die. And put him into stasis and brought him here.
You could have believed me, rats do work."
said Kani, continuing, "It's kinda obvious when you think of it. Now let me start nitpicking your strategy before we actually fight, eh?
To ressurect me, I'd have to do it willingly or I'd have be immobile while you did it for me. I wouldn't do it willingly, like I already told you. So you'd have planned something to immobilize me.
You would have come to the conclusion that you can't deal my mobility. So you'd have thought about ninjutsu. I bet that Rasen-Yubiwa thing you used and similar jutsu would have come to your mind. Obviously. It works. You'd have hoped for me to be in hubris and just let you do it again. Then you'd use limbo and multiple other jutsu to eventually put me in genjutsu and then rummage through the village for anything you want.
You can deny it all you want, but this was going to be your strategy. Not that well thought out. But your last resort anyway. Your desperate and in that desperation, you left this" He signalled to the hurricane whirlpool.
It hit Naruto that his barrier had kept the warmter away and it's dissolution caused this amalgam.
Kani continued, "You've made the defenses greater than they were before. A pity my clansmen didn't think of this before. So I believe I've told what your 'hard way' is. Let me tell you my version of the way and hard ways- you surrender now and I take lives and eyes and revive myself, or you can fight and the same things happen"
"We'll take our bet and fight" said Mito.
Naruto entered six paths mode with all ten truth seeking orbs behind him. He converted to into swords, giving one to Mito and keeping the other to himself. The other eight turned into swords resembling Kani's chains and their sword ends.
Kani asked, "Aren't you going to use grandpa's sword, kiddo?"
"I thought of it, but then, it wouldn't be able to cut you. This one can." Said Naruto.
The three of them met with their swords in the middle of the hurricane.
It was not easy fighting Kani, who matched each strike. He could phase out and back in whenever he wished, just like Kamui. The three of them fought like that for a while, but even so, Kani held the advantage, he was unaffected by the hurricane.
Naruto and Mito were slowly suffering cuts from the hurricane.
Naruto screamed "Karyu Endan!"[Fire Dragon Bullet]
Kani easily dodged it, but he was never Naruto's goal. The dragon hit the hurricane and fused with it. There was now a fire hurricane, creating steam.
Along with fire and steam, there was also lightning.
Naruto and Mito made Kage bunshin who went to a far edge of the hurricane.
Clone Mito raised her arm, calling about the lightning and fire simultaneously to form a giant lightning and fire dragon. She converted that fire into Amaterasu. Clone Naruto added his own six paths chakra to it.
They did the same multiple times, whilst the originals were still fighting with Kani. They managed to keep Kani occupied between all the truth seeking swords, multiple sealing attempts, all of which were foiled by Kani who mocked the simplicity of the seals.
Kani noticed the dragons of Amaterasu and lightning forming but Naruto and Mito kept him close to the centre.
Once the clones were done, all of the dragons powered by six paths chakra, zeroed in on Kani.
Kani told Naruto and Mito, "Look closely"
All his chains formed a barrier around him. When the dragons hit it, they started going around him. They all made a gigantic dragon made of all the smaller giant dragons. That dragon shot at Naruto and Mito at light speed. But then they poofed into smoke.
Kani looked around for the both of them. All of a sudden, two hooks made of the truth seeking orbs caught him from underneath, and Naruto burst from it with a Rasen-Yubiwa. At point blank range, Naruto was sure that this would hit.
Kani knew Naruto's line of thought and snorted in amusement as he showed off his strongest kenjutsu- Uzu ShÅmetsu [Vortex Annihilation]
Amaterasu Rasen-Yubiwa was overpowered. Capable of destroying an entire city in one go.
Uzu Shometsu was invincible. It was a close range attack. And at most could take out two people. It did not have the collateral damaging power of the Amaterasu Rasen-Yubiwa. But what it lacked in raw power, it made up for in finesse. It was a series of a billion attacks in a second. The cost of the usage of this attack is death. The attack is known across the clan, everyone is taught the theory. Uzumaki Kanagi was the only living person in history to have utilized that attack. She is said to have killed a God using this technique.
The attack itself makes use of multiple unstable seals that don't last longer than 0.0000001 seconds. The seals themselves draw upon so much chakra to bring out swords literally from thin air and uses those swords to attack the victim. This in end causes a billion strikes on the victim in the short span of a second, effectively killing off the victim.
Kani managed to avoid any damage to the boy's eyes. After the long second, Naruto lay on the ground, almost dead, his body non-existent with only his head intact, because Kani had tried to avoid his eyes, he also avoided damage to the brain. Naruto in his last breath called upon the Naraka path, the King of Hell and had it consume him.
While Naruto rejuvenated, Kani brought Mito, who was holding him down through the hooks, up to the ground, instantly capturing her in his chakra chains. The moment Naruto came out of the king of hell, he captured him in his chakra chains, and in a tenth of a second, completed all the necessary seals for reviving himself.
The Shinigami appeared in front of Kani and said, "Uzumaki Kani, you cannot ressurect!"
