"Lord Sesshomaru? Where do babies come from?" Rin asked casually as she braided wildflowers in the daiyoukai's hair. He so rarely came to the village that he allowed her little indulgences such as this from time to time. However, while Sesshomaru was content allowing her to play with his hair, he was not prepared for such a question.

"Why do you ask such a question?" he asked, his voice stoic and cold...perfectly masking his inner screaming.

"Well," Rin mumbled quietly as she ran her fingers through the silver mane, "Lady Sango is having another baby soon and no one will tell Rin where babies come from."

"This Sesshomaru is not interested in human mating," the daiyoukai answered a little too quickly for him to fully realize what he had said until it was too late.

"Mating? What's mating?" Rin asked, her voice full of wonder. A flicker of fear and horror flashed through the daiyoukai's eyes before he could hide it which unfortunately was not missed by the small girl.

"It's something very terrible isn't it?" she murmured as she wrung her hands, "Rin remembers how Lady Sango screamed when she had her other babies."

"Yes, quite terrible. Never speak of it again in this ones presence," Sesshomaru barked out much harsher than he intended, more than ready to end this conversation before any further terribly awkward questions were asked.

"Rin is never mating. Not ever," Rin announced as she nodded firmly and reached up to braid his hair once more before pausing and biting her lip, "Rin is worried though. Lady Kaede said that Rin has become a woman and can have babies because the other day..."

Keeping his face as emotionless as ever, Sesshomaru groaned internally as the girl prattled about her time of the month, information he never wanted to know or discuss with his young ward. Why Rin had not asked the elderly miko or why the elderly miko had not explained as much herself was beyond him. And yet he stayed silent and did not leave as he tried to think of literally anything else. In his heart, he knew his time with the young girl would pass quicker than the blink of an eye and then she'd be gone forever. He wouldn't trade these precious few moments he had alone with her for anything, even this awkward one.
