Alex yawned and looked at his clock. 4:07 AM. He'd started writing at 7:00 that night- or yesterday, rather. But these papers weren't writing themselves. John Jay had recently fallen sick after only writing five. James Madison was working on a few at the same time, which was an extremely ineffective way of writing in his opinion. Alexander was working on his 23rd. Not to brag, but..

Alexander took a sip of water from the bottle next to him. His stomach growled. "I should probably eat something." He said aloud to himself. Stepping out of his office and into the kitchen, he noticed his To-Do list taped to the fridge. At the top in bold print: 6:00 meeting- October 7th. Would ya take a guess what day it was?

"God dammit," said Alex. He had to stop making a habit of staying up past midnight. Sleep was important. He snagged a handful of chips, quickly ate them, and made his way to his bedroom.

"Alex?" Came Eliza's voice from behind him. "It's so early, what are you doing?"

"I'm sorry, darling." He kissed her forehead gently. "I have an early meeting soon.

"But it's still dark out!"

"I know. I just need to write something down, then I'll be on my way. I'll be home tonight."

Eliza sighed. "Why do you write like you're running out of time? Just come back to sleep. You have another hour before you need to leave." She paused. "Well, I'm going back to sleep."

Before she lay down again, Alexander grabbed her hands and sat on the edge of the bed. "Hey," he said gently. "Best of wives, and best of women."

Eliza leaned on his shoulder. They stayed like that for several minutes before he lay his now sleeping wife back down. "I love you. I'm sorry."
