Are You Crazy Enough: 210. Hot Fudge Sundaes
Always Be Heroes
"I'm sorry sweetheart, I know you wanted your dad to come with us," Hermione said, stroking a gentle hand through Rose's hair. "We'll have a good day anyway."
"Why does he always have to go to work?" Rose complained quietly. She'd been so excited for this day to come, ever since she received her Hogwarts letter, and her dad had promised they'd have a fun day out.
"Sometimes things happen," Hermione replied calmly, a small smile on her face. "Your dad and your Uncle Harry just want the world to be a safer place for you kids to grow up in."
Rose sighed but nodded her head. She understood, but it didn't mean she had to like it.
"Aunt Ginny is still fetching the boys," Hermione offered, hoping it would cheer up her daughter. "Grandma Molly is looking after Hugo and Lily, so it'll just be us, okay?"
A small smile appeared on Rose's face and she nodded again, more happily this time. Even if her dad couldn't actually be there, it just meant she would be able to show him everything they bought later.
…
"I think we're almost done," Hermione announced, three hours later, patting her bag where the weightless shrunken packages resided.
Rose was about to reply when a commotion at the other end of Diagon Alley caught her eye. Nudging Hugo, they both watched the goings on with large smiles on their faces.
"Mum?"
"What's wrong, love?" Ginny asked, looking down at her younger son.
"I thought you said dad couldn't come to the Alley today?"
"Right," Ginny agreed, confused.
"He's right there," Hugo informed her with a smug smile on his face.
Sure enough, as Ginny and Hermione turned around, they saw Ron and Harry holding an arm each of a fighting criminal, wide grins on their faces as they spotted their family.
"Hey kids!" Ron greeted cheerfully. The criminal he was holding attempted to kick him, but Ron tugged on the restrained arm. "Show some respect, I'm talking to my family!"
Harry chuckled, winking at Albus. "Did you get all your school supplies?"
"Sure, dad," Albus replied, smirking at the criminal. "Having a good day at work?"
Harry laughed outright, leaning over to cuff Albus' chin.
"Give us twenty minutes to take this idiot to the holding cells, and we'll take you to Fortescue's for hot fudge sundaes?" Ron offered, making the three kids cheer happily.
Hermione and Ginny just shook their heads at their respective partners, fond smiles on their faces. It didn't matter how old they got, the two of them would never fully grow up.
As they left and the kids chattered happily about watching their dads make an arrest, Hermione looked at Ginny.
"The kids don't need to know the history for their dads to be heroes."
