When Tomorrow Comes

The window illuminated the light that was being emitted by the sun. Another day was already up ahead their lives. The room was quiet and the steady breathing of only two people could be heard in there. They were still engulfed in each other's embrace, their eyes were locked on each other's orbs and no one dared to break the comfortable silence. They both exchanged reassuring smile as their hands found their way on each other's frame. Their love was just like the movies, the epitome of romance. And the world outside was too.

It was a clear bright day and the weather was nice in Tokyo; the busy streets were all filled with the usual cars, the usual people, and the usual noises. But what made it peculiar from the usual was the fact that the cars were immobile and no honks of horns could be heard, and the inanimate voices of people filled the busy streets of the capital today-shouts that emitted from terror, madness, and hopelessness; terror from the current predicament, madness from the ongoing tragedy that would probably be written in history, and hopelessness from the lack of idea of tomorrow.

Undead, was what they were referred to as. They were still alive but their brains and hearts were already gone. Their saliva was like a virus that when it penetrated someone's open wound, they would slowly turn as one of them. The cause of this phenomenon was still undetermined for even the researching team had already joined the flock.

Two days, that was the time limit for the expiration of one's sanity after being in contact with the virus. And today was not like any other day for this was the last day she would be herself.

No one broke the embrace as they both listen to each other's heartbeat. She bit her lower lip, suppressing the urge to shout in pain making it bleed in the process. He put her in a firmer embrace, locking her in his arms then he inclined his lips with hers, leaning for a touch which she gladly accepted. He could taste the iron like substance in her mouth but he paid no attention to it, instead, they savored the moment like there was no tomorrow for them. Her body started to shake as she unconsciously bit his lips, but they did not even take notice of. They were already shrouded in each other's thoughts as they continued to exchange kisses, bloody ones. Her pupils started to dilate as her grip in his back and hair grew stronger. The time had come.

I love you—this cliché three letter words that was already overly used and abused, these words filled their tomorrow as they held each other's hands, never planning to let go.

Today was like an ordinary day except for the two people, now undead, who even though lost their functioning capacity to think and feel, found their way out of the tragedy. They walked unsteadily into the crowd in the busy streets of Tokyo, hand-in hand. They might not even realize what they were doing, nor would they not even know each other anymore. But neither of them wanted to let go as they tread on their path, waiting for tomorrow to come, their tomorrow.

I will love you until we run out of mornings. Then I will love you in the dark.
