Domino tried her best not to fall asleep as she sat cross-legged on the ground. She was beyond bored as this was practically all she had been allowed to do for over a week. When she had first gotten to Themyscira she had promptly been introduced to the Amazonian Queen. She seemed like a nice-ish lady, but Domino could sense the total badass lying beneath. Honestly, Domino liked her, she was a blunt and factual leader. Diana had gone back to Gateway city a few days after their arrival. Domino was now under the old Amazonian Seer's supervision. Who was ever so eager to help teach a fellow seer. Oddly enough the seer hadn't seen her coming. Maybe seers couldn't see other seers? Jueliope was a kind but strict teacher. She had told her the first step into fully accepting the gift was to perfect being ale to meditate. But it was so BORING!
Domino let out a yelp as her hands shot up to the back of her head, "Focus." Jueliope barked out. Domino frowned lightly as she rubbed the back of her head. She couldn't count the number of times she's been smacked for loosing concentration. Jueliope may be old, but she still had fire in her. For a split dark moment, she thought about telling her Papa who would be pissed at all the physical contact. She immediately dismissed it though, not truly meaning it. It wasn't like she wanted the old lady dead.
"Juel, can I please have a break? Just to go for a walk or something? I'm not used to just sitting around. I'm used to doing things and being active, not sitting around and doing nothing." Domino begged. She was on the verge of sneaking out and probably doing something stupid. Only Batman's request that she be on her best behavior kept her from doing just that.
"We are not doing nothing. You are learning to meditate." Jueliope told her patiently.
Domino let out a groan as she flopped backwards, "As stupid as it sounds, I'm too bored to try and focus. My body is too restless to let my mind do what it needs to do. I gotta go out and DO something."
Jueliope gave her a long look before giving a sharp sigh, "Very well, but on a few conditions. One, you stay out of any buildings you are not directly invited into. Two, you stay out of trouble. And three, you stay out of people's way. You may have the rest of the day off, but report back to me before dinner. No bothering anyone, you hear me?"
Domino grinned and summersaulted backwards into a standing position, "You are the best Juel, thanks." She ran out of the room before Juel could change her mind. She was pretty sure that the Queen had put her on house arrest after finding out about her parentage. She just hoped that Juel wouldn't get in trouble for letting her out.
She simply wandered the Island for a while, discovering where things were and what the Island offered. It really was a gorgeous place. She didn't stop until she found the training grounds. For some reason they just pulled her in. She always had an urge to build her skill-set, it never mattered what it was. Whether it was learning how to shoot a gun from Uncle Deadshot, chemistry from her dad, gymnastics from her mom, hacking from aunt Selina, or swordsmanship from auntie Cheshire. She had learned other skills over the years from her other family members, but it never seemed like enough. It was like there was a warning in the back of her head saying that she needed to be as prepared as possible.
She watched the Amazonians practice with wonder in her eyes and a large grin on her face. They were truly amazing. They were split up into four different sections. Group one was hand to hand combat. Group two was swords and shields. Group three was fighting from horseback, and that was really cool to watch. Finally, group four was archery. She watched them fight for quite a while, losing track of time. As she turned her attention back to the hand to hand combatants something caught her attention and she was suddenly fascinated. All of the Amazonians were twenty years old or older. However, fighting against one of the other Amazonians was a girl considerably younger. She looked about her own age, possibly a few years older. The girl would definitely be somewhere between herself and Robin's age. She had thought there were no more Amazonian's being born anymore. So, who was the kid?
Domino was suddenly very aware of the presence of somebody directly behind her, she hadn't heard anyone approach. She spun around to see an intimidating Amazon warrior standing behind her. For a moment she was actually scared, intimidated by the woman, but she tried her best to brush it off.
"And what are you doing over here?" the woman asked with her arms folded.
"I wasn't bothering anyone; I swear I wasn't." Domino blurted out, thinking about Juel's warning before she had left. She had avoided pretty much everyone she had saw as she was exploring. She had just gained her possible freedom; she didn't want to lose it on the same day.
The Amazon raised an eyebrow, "You are the seer that Diana brought here. What are you doing by the practice fields?" Jueliope was a pacifist, having seen so much war in her visions that violence put her off. She had been expecting this new seer to be the same. She hadn't expected her to be so young, or so interested in fighting. She had noticed the moment she started watching them for almost an hour.
"I needed a break from sitting in a room and trying to meditate. Me and meditation just don't get along. All of you fight so well, it's just so amazing to watch. I'll be honest, I'm a little jealous." Domino admitted, glancing back at the warriors.
"You fight young seer?"
Domino shrugged, "A little, I guess. I've had some people teach me, but I'm not as good as I'd like to be. My name is Domino by the way. I'd rather you call me that and not seer." She still wasn't super glad to have this gift so she didn't want to be identified by it.
The woman gave her a small smile, "I am called Antiope. You are interested in the art of combat little one?"
Domino smiled as she nodded, "I've always wanted to be a better fighter. The better I can fight, the better I can protect the people I care about. That's how I've always thought about it."
Antiope looked down at the child with a thoughtful look upon her face, "How old are you little one?"
"I turned eight not too long ago, why?"
Antiope let out a small chuckle, "Did you know you are not the first eight-year-old Diana brought home? It seems to be the magic age."
Domino showed interest, "Is that the girl I saw down there?"
"Indeed, her name is Donna Troy and she is a very brave and dedicated child. Diana brought her to us two years ago, she apparently had a very rough upbringing." Antiope said before continuing with a considering look upon her face, "My role here on this Island is to train and prepare every woman on Themyscira, and if you so choose that could include you."
Domino lit up in excitement before deflating slightly, "I would love to, but I'm not sure if Jueliope will let me. She only gave me a break today because we haven't made any progress in over a week. I'm pretty sure Jueliope and Queen Hippolyta are keeping me on a tight leash."
"Why?" Antiope asked. She hadn't talked to her sister lately, having been busy with training. She did not know much about the child other that she had the rare gift of future sight.
"My parents are very high-profile villains and I was raised by many other different villains around the world. As much as they are willing to teach me how to control this curse I have, I'm pretty sure they consider me a risk." She gave a shrug and a resigned look appeared on her face, "I get it, I really do. I am beyond used to it. I mean Batsy is pretty much the only hero that doesn't judge me. Even Wonder Boob's opinion of me changed after she found out who my parents are."
Antiope gave the child a considering look but didn't get the chance to say anything as the kid started walking away.
"I really do have to go, Jueliope said to be back before dinner. It was nice to meet you, bye." Domino said as she took off at a run back towards Juel's home. It would've been nice to learn how to fight like them, but the Queen would probably never let her. Oh well, maybe another time.
