Mal's POV

"How are you guys even here? Is the barrier broken? Oh my god did our parents escape too?" I say frantically, beginning to freak out.

"No no! Your dad actually helped us" Harriet says hurriedly, giving me a reassuring smile. I sigh in relief, thank god our parents are still on the Isle.

"My dad?" I repeat, a grin spreading on my face.

"Yeah he found a spell that could send us anywhere a few weeks ago, and today he was finally able to complete it in time for your birthday. Thomas over here couldn't wait and used it before any of us could react" Freddie says while sending a scolding look to the Scottish boy in my arms and I cock my head to the side confusedly.

"But my birthday isn't until.." I trail off, wondering what the date is.

"Tommy what day is it?" I ask, looking down at the boy who is now looking up at me tearfully.

"J-June 9th" he stutters and my eyes widen in surprise.

"Oh wow" I say, stunned that I actually forgot about my own birthday.

"Happy birthday Mal!" Thomas,Harriet,Freddie, and Hayden exclaim with big smiles on their faces.

"You guys are the best! I guess it's just been so crazy here I lost track of my own birthday" I laugh and all my fellow vks join in.

"Speaking of which, how does it feel to be an old man?" Hayden teases.

"If being seventeen makes me an old man then you're a geezer, Mister first born on the Isle" I tease back and he playfully punches me on the shoulder.

"Haha very funny, so who'd you get into a fight with this time?" he asks, taking note of my now mostly healed split lip and the bloody shirt on the ground.

"Funny story actually, you guys just missed Tommy kick Peter Pan's arse" I say proudly, and said boy blushes before burying his face into my shoulder.

"Really? Great job baby brother" Harriet says impressed and he buries his face into my neck.

"Looks like he's back to his normal self" Freddie teases and I smile down at my loyal first mate.

"And I wouldn't have him any other way" I say gently, causing him to look up at me with happiness in his eyes.

"Really?" he asks shyly.

"Really, if I ever had to pick between you and Harry I'd choose you every time in a heart beat" I say and he smiles widely.

"Thanks Mal" he says happily and I smile before pulling him into a bear hug.

"Your father is an idiot, you're perfect just the way you are" I whisper in his ear and I feel him smile against my shoulder.

"Present time!" Freddie exclaims and I shake my head slightly as I chuckle a bit.

"You guys this really isn't necessary.." I say, feeling bad that they went through the trouble of getting me presents.

"Yes it is, you're our friend and you are always doing stuff for us" Harriet says.

"It's our turn to do something for you" Hayden finishes and I smile at them. They all pull out items wrapped in crumpled up newspaper from Harriet and Freddie's backpacks and I see several people cringe.

"Those are presents? They look like trash" Chad scoffs, his nose wrinkled in disgust.

"No they're perfect" I say with a small smile, taking the one from Freddie first. I unwrap it and my smile widens when I see that it's a old fashioned book.

"Wow...this is so cool" I say as I flip through the pages, scanning the different potion recipes and fun facts about certain ingredients hand written on the pages.

"Thanks Freddie, I love it" I say as I wrap my left arm around her shoulders and pull her in for a hug.

"You're welcome Mal" she says and we break the hug. I put the book down next to me and take the small one from Hayden next and he gives me a small smile as I begin unwrapping it.

"This is great, and look it matches my tattoo" I say with a laugh as I put the silver dragon medalion around my neck.

"I thought you'd like that, seeing as it's your favorite animal" he says with a small smirk.

"Alright me next!" Harriet says excitedly as she pulls out a wooden box from her bag. I look at it in surprise before looking back up at her.

"You are going to love this" she says as she hands me the box, which is surprisingly heavy.

"Geez Hari what's in here? Rocks?" I huff as I hold it up.

"Open it" she says excitedly and I roll my eyes before lifting the lid slightly. My eyes widen when I see what's inside and I look up in shock.

"Is this what I think it is?" I ask, stunned at the realization of what I'm holding.

"I found it when I was walking at the edge of the moorse...I tried finding the nest but it was like it was just abandoned there" she says quietly, nodding her head.

"What is it?" Bella asks curiously, and I look over at her with a small smile before moving to stand next to Harriet. Without a word I open the lid fully and hand her the box.

"I figured the safest place for it was with you, you know more about dragons than the rest of us" Harriet says softly as I carefully take the big oval shaped sappire colored egg out, and several people gasp at the sight.

"Is it okay?" Freddie asks concerned and I gently shush her. The egg feels really warm in my hands and I feel little thumps against my palms, it's ready to hatch any time now.

'H-hello?' a soft feminine voice calls out nervously in my head and my eyes widen in shock before I grin in pure joy.

"Hello there" I say softly in dragonease, relieved that the baby is okay after being abandoned for who knows how long.

'W-who are you?' she asks shyly and I laugh softly.

"My name is Mal" I say kindly, gently stroking the shell with my finger.

"What's going on?" I hear Lonnie ask curiously.

"He's talking to the baby" Carlos answers, and I hear several people gasp.

"He can do that?" Bella says amazed, and I feel pride swell in my chest.

"He's been able to speak fluent dragonease since we were kids" Jay answers.

'Nice to meet you Mal' she says, and I feel another little thump.

"What's your name?" I ask gently, curious about what I should call her.

'I don't have one...do you know where my mom is?' she asks innocently and I frown, feeling guilty that she doesn't know she was probably abandoned.

"I'm sorry sweetie but I don't know anything about your mom, my friend found you in the woods" I say apologetically and I hear her let out a small whimper.

"She's okay, but she's wondering about her mom" I say in english and my friends all look at the egg sympathetically.

"Poor thing" Thomas says sadly, coming to stand at my other side.

'Why did you guys talk funny?' she asks curiously and I laugh, shaking my head.

"I'm the only one that can understand you little one, I was just explaining to everyone what's going on' I explain.

'Oh' she says innocently and I smile.

"Will you be coming out soon? I'd very much like to see you" I ask gently.

'What if your friends won't like me?' she asks nervously.

"They'll love you I promise, but you can come out whenever you're ready" I say encouragingly, not wanting to rush her.

'Really?' she says happily.

"Really, and don't worry I'm going to take great care of you. I promise" I say before looking back up at everyone.

"She's a bit nervous about hatching" I say as I shift the egg so it's cradled against my left arm with my right hand on top of it.

"How can you hear the little beast when it's making no noise?" Chad scoffs and I growl warningly, shooting him a glare.

"She is not a beast" I hiss and he flinches slightly.

'W-what's going on?' she asks nervously and I calm down immediately, not wanting to scare her more.

"Just an annoying human, don't worry about it" I say reasurringly and she relaxes.

'I'll come out now' she says softly and I get really excited. I carefully put the egg down and gesture for everyone to back up. They all back up and give her her space, and I make sure I'm only a few feet away from her.

"Ready when you are" I say gently and the egg begins shaking frantically.

"That's it sweetie" I say encouragingly and the egg bursts open, we're blinded a bit by the bright light that emits from the explosion for a moment. Once the light goes away I awww at the little blue dragon in front of me, instead of scales she's covered in a light blue fuzz that will begin to go away as she gets older and she has sparkling ocean blue eyes (A/N: baby Saphira from the movie Eragon). She's much bigger than her egg, so it must of been her paws I felt thumping against my hands, not her heart beat. She looks around curiously, probably trying to figure out which person is me.

"Here I am" I say gently, lowering myself into a crouch as she turns to look at me. I smile and slowly reach my hand out to her as she approaches me. She sniffs my hand slightly before leaning up to rub the top of her head against my hand.

'Hi' she says, moving to stand by my right leg and gets up on her hind legs to put her paws on my knee.

"Hi" I say with a smile as I gently rub the side of her head. She lets out a soft purr and flaps her wings slightly. I laugh as she carefully crawls her way up my leg so she can sit on it.

"What a digusting creature! It must be destroyed at once!" an elderly voice says and an old woman marches her way out of the crowd of Auradonians towards me.

"You're not gonna touch her" I hiss, wrapping my arms around the innocent creature on my lap as I stand up and back up towards me friends.

"Give it to me!" she demands, coming closer and suddenly I'm surrounded by all of my Isle friends protectively and they're all glaring at the woman, Thomas and Harriet even have their swords drawn just in case.

"Back off" Hayden hisses holding up his right hand and summoning a blue ball of fire. The crowd gasps and I see them looking at us in fear.

"Guys stand down" I say calmly and they all do as I say but don't move from the protective circle they've formed around me.

"Evie can you hold her for a second?" I ask the bluenette standing next to me. She nods and gives me a small smile as I gently put my new friend in her arms.

"I'll be right back little one" I say gently and she nods her head.

"Look we all just need to relax" I say calmly as I exit the circle and look at the older woman.

"Now ma'am I understand that dragons can be very intimidating, I was raised by a woman that can turn into one. But not all of them are bad" I say and she frowns angrily at me.

"You and your mother are monsters!" she hisses and I flinch slightly.

'Let me take control' Kal growls and I silence him.

"Ma'am I-" I begin to say before she steps towards me.

"My daughter was raised by fairies because of your mother's curse!" she says angrily, and my eyes widen as I realize that this is Aurora's mother.

"Mother-" a younger blonde woman says as he approaches with Fairy Godmother, and a brown haired man on either side of her, these must be Aurora and Phillip.

"So her first words, her first steps, I missed it all!" she shouts and I flinch as I back up slightly.

"I-I'm so sorry-" I begin to say as I move forward to properly apologize.

"Stay away from me you devil! why don't you and your friends return to the hole you came from. You belong on that island with your parents, you're no better than them and you never will be!" she shouts and I hear several people gasp. My and Kal's anger begin to rise and I guess my eyes are flashing between purple and grey because everyone is looking at me in concern.

"Mal?" Bella says gently as she begins to move towards me with her parents right behind her, but they all pause as I hold my hand up in a stop motion.

"Don't come near me Bella I don't wanna hurt you" is all I'm able to say before I close my eyes and let Kal take control.

Mal closes his eyes and his hair changes so it's green and black.

"Oh no, now you've done it" Mal's friend, Hayden I believe, says as he makes all the other vks back up.

"What's going on?" Jane asks confusedly and Carlos goes over to her and gathers her in his arms protectively while Jay does the same for Lonnie.

"He let Kalcifer have control" Evie says as she moves to stand between the two pirate siblings.

"Who is Kalcifer?" I ask confusedly, feeling myself get a bit nervous.

"That would be me love" Mal says as he opens his eyes, only to reveal that they are glowing purple, and my eyes widen as I hear the change in his voice. He now has a slight British sounding accent and his voice is more husky.

"I supose you could say I am Mal's other half, whever he's angry or in trouble I take over. I am also the reason he can understand dragons" he says smoothly and Fairy Godmother's eyes widen.

"You're his inner dragon" she says in surprise and he smirks.

"What's an inner dragon?" Lonnie asks from her spot in Jay's arms.

"Basically when someone can shift into an animal they have another side to them, another personality that the person can hear in their head" Fairy Godmother explains, not taking her eyes off Kal who is watching her curiously.

"Correct" he says with a small smirk, turning to look at me again and his gaze softens.

"I just wish Mal had let me take over sooner, he's been hogging our mate all to himself" he says with a small smile, and I go to step towards him. His smile widens and he opens his arms for me.

"No Bella" my dad says, grabbing my shoulder and Kal frowns.

"Dad he won't hurt me" I say gently, longing to go to him.

"She's right your Magesty, mates are rare and when they do happen the male is always very protective and loyal to their significant other. They'd never hurt them on purpose" Fairy Godmother says reasurringly and my dad reluctantly lets me go. I immediately run towards my boyfriend and wrap my arms around his waist as he wraps his around my shoulders.

"Look at it this way, you'll get twice as much love as everyone else" he says softly and I cuddle closer to him.

"Unhand her!" I hear Queen Leah demand and I feel her hand try to grasp at my arm before Kal shifts me away from her and growls at her in warning, and she backs up immediately.

"Calm down" I say gently before leaning up to kiss his jaw. He relaxes against me and just pulls me closer to him.

"I don't like her, Mal doesn't either" he grumbles and I giggle.
