I DO NOT OWN THE GREATEST SHOWMAN OR THE DIALOGUE.
As P.T. Barnum and Jenny Lind conquered the nation, Phillip was left to manage the circus. They were still filling the seats, but protestors were still coming in day after day and causing trouble. It all came to a head one night as another show had finished spectacularly.
"Thank you very much for coming." Phillip said as everyone filed out of the Barnum museum. "Who enjoyed yourselves, You? Tell everyone how much fun you had at the circus. New acts every night."
"Hey, ringmaster." Phillip turned around to see that not everyone had left. A mob of drunks was gathering around young Carlyle.
"Gentlemen, I am gonna have to ask you to leave." Phillip replied.
"This is our town, son." One of the drunks shot back. "We think you should leave, you and your freaks...and your spooks." Antony and W.D. had come out and you could see that W.D. was incensed at the racist remark.
"Sir. I will only ask once more." Phillip insisted.
"Then what, boy?" he asked as W.D. threw a punch. The oddities came out and began to fight with the protestors. As the fight progressed, one of the protestors kicked over a lantern and a fire began to break out. As Antony ran away from the fighting, he bumped into Anne Wheeler.
"Come on Antony, we gotta get out of here!" she exclaimed as she pulled him by the hand. As Anne and Antony ran for the exit, 2 whacks from cane brought them to their knees. Antony looked to see none other than his father standing over them.
"I told you that you would regret this." Old man Coleman spat as he began to viciously beat his son.
"Stop it!" Anne cried as she wrestled with Coleman for the cane, only to be backhanded.
"Out of the way spook, this here is what's mine and I'm taking it." He spat as he grabbed Antony by the arm.
"Wait!" Anne cried out as she stood in front of the man. "Take me instead."
"You, why should I?" Antony's old man inquired.
"All he can do is steal for you." She pointed out. "I can...do other things." Anne was on the verge of tears as she offered herself up to Coleman to save Antony. The old man thought for a moment before dropping his son to grab Anne Wheeler.
"Tell Barnum...if he wants you so badly, he can have you." Old man Coleman snarled. "The spook's gonna put more coin in my pockets then you ever could."
"No...Anne!" Antony cried out as she was taken out of the burning building. As Antony struggled to breath, Mr. Barnum came rushing in and scooped him up in his arms.
"I got you!" He exclaimed as he rushed Antony out of the burning building. As Antony took in the sight of P.T. Barnum's circus burning to the ground, it all proved too much and his world went black.
