Chapter Sixteen: A Hidden Past.

Gellert was quiet for a moment. "Lily, she was a kind person, but if you made her mad at you she had a vindictive streak worthy of a true Dark Lady. She was amazing… funny and witty she could always make me and James laugh. James and Lily were about to go into their final year of hogwarts when I met them that summer in the middle of July. I hadn't even bothered putting up glamours since I had been on the muggle side of london at that time."

Gellert chuckled, "I just happened to run into them completely by accident when I was exiting out of a store. Lily clever girl that she was immediately recognized me."

Her eyes widened, and shocked the only thing she managed to say was "Grindelwald…"

Gellert blinked surprised someone had recognized him, not many could recognize him even if they have heard of him. "Yep" he said popping the p. He wondered what she would do now. Her companion had gone pale.

"How are you out of Nurmengard?" She bravely asked.

Amused he replied, "That's for me to know and you to find out." If he had known at the time what that statement would lead to… well he still would have said it.

Her companion seemed to groan, "Please Lil's lets just go…"

"Not on your life James! I'm going to figure this out no matter what."

He at this point had started walking away which she soon realized and ran after him. "How are you so young looking, aren't you like a hundred years old?"

He raised an eyebrow as he replied, "I'm ninety seven."

"So tell me how are you out of prison?"

Deciding to amuse her he asked, "Who made the prison?"

Frowning she replied, "It was designed by you."

He scoffed as with a smirk he told her, "And people thought something I made could hold me?"

Her mouth fell open. "Great Lil's we got your answer now can we leave?"

The girl though was frowning at him, "You still haven't mentioned how your able to look so young."

He gave her an unimpressed look, "And you seemed so clever, there are these spells called glamours." He told her.

He had given her two perfectly logical answers for the questions, and yet she seemed dissatisfied. Despite himself he was curious as to what she was thinking about and so waited for her response.

Finally she shook her head and replied, "that makes too much sense."

Raising an eyebrow he questioned, "Too much sense?"

The girl nodded, "Yes I have found that wizards never make perfect logical sense so since it made sense than that can't be right."

"Is that so? I take it you are a muggleborn."

Her companion tensed. Grindelwald rolled his eyes, "Relax I'm not in the mood to fight today, besides Red here is amusing." He told them. Surprisingly the man actually seemed to believe him as he relaxed a margin.

"I will give you that the truth is much stranger than what I told you, but what I told you is still true."

Her companion finally decided to ask him a question, "Why aren't you fighting? If you could have escaped at anytime why didn't you continue the war?"

"And that is a story for another time. I have minions to go meet." He replied after checking the time. He didn't actually expect to ever talk to them again.

"Imagine to my surprise about a week later I get a letter. It was Lily telling me that it was a later date and that they wanted to hear the answer. I was shocked no one had ever been that ballsy before, but then again Lily and James were true gryffindors. I didn't bother messaging back as I tracked them down and happened to find them in a muggle restaurant with another two people. This time I was glamoured."

He spotted the people he was looking for and saw them sitting with a couple other people. He smirked as he walked over. "Good Afternoon." He greeted them.

The boy he didn't know frowned, "Can we help you?"

"Not you." He stated before turning to the two he recognized, "You wished to finish our conversation from last time?"

There eyes widened in shock. "Y-yeah" James answered stuttering in surprise.

The other girl frowned, "Who are you?"

"This is our friend, Garan" Lily quickly stated.

"He sounds german."

"That would be because I am. Do you have a problem with that?" He asked narrowing his eyes.

"No, its just curious."

"It was nice having lunch with you guys, we'll have to cut this short." James responded.

Gellert turned and left the two following after him. "You two are either very brave or very foolish to send me a letter like you did." He told them.

"Well we want answers."

"I think that you two are too curious for your own good. But I will make a deal with you… if your interested."

James looked at him warily, "What kind of deal?"

"Find my favorite follower. Buy something from his shop. I will answer one question of yours truthfully."

"Only one?"

The ex Dark Lord smirked at them, "If you want more questions answered your going to have to complete more tasks of mine."

"We'll do it." Lily answered him her arms crossed in determination.

"We shall see."

"Imagine my surprise when only a week later they found me with wands from Hohlwelle."

"So you have found the shop, not bad, well little lions what will your question be?"

"Why did you not restart the war?"

"I figured that since I was 'locked away' in prison I could travel a bit. When I came back only two years later the bulk of my followers either renounced me to spare their pitiful lives or were killed. Only my most smartest followers went underground hiding their past and awaiting my return. With the meager amount of people still loyal to me it was unwise to start the war back up. I had considered re-gaining followers but decided against it. There just wasn't much point for me to do it."

"So it wasn't because you are afraid of Headmaster Dumbledore?" Lily asked.

"Albus is a coward, so no I'm not afraid of him."

"The headmaster is a coward?"

Gellert just smirked, "Oh Albus has so many secrets he doesn't want to get out to public… But that is another question."

"What task would you have us do for another question?" James asked as he and Lily looked at each other.

"Hmm well the little upstart of a false dark lord is annoying me with him proclaiming to be the 'most feared dark lord of all time' I want you two to show me your gryffindor courage and leave a message telling him how pathetic he is."

James got a mischievous glint in his eyes as he grinned. They left whispering to each other.

"Two weeks later and to my surprise I hear of a fight between my Klingenläufer and the elite Death Eaters. Apparently James and Lily with Hohlwelle's help got the uniforms and the help of the rest of my elites and sent a challenge to Voldemort. The false darklord sent his elites and they were trounced by my Klingenläufer." Gellert chuckled.

"The newspapers were all in a panic especially with what James said. "The false lord Voldemort is nothing compared with the might of Lord Grindelwald." It was funny because a few of my old followers tried to rejoin thinking I was coming back. But I was done with being a Dark Lord at the time. I went to Lily's house to let them ask their question."

Ringing the doorbell he waited. "Who are you?" A thin faced girl asked.

"I'm looking for Lily and James."

"Oh great another freak. Lily another of your kind is here!" The girl shouted walking away. Gellert sneered as he entered the muggle household.

Lily soon appeared, "Oh!" She said surprised.

"Come were going to your boyfriends house now."

"He's not my boyfriend! James is like my brother!" Lily defended.

"Oh? I heard that he was always flirting with you? And that the other marauders encouraged him."

"Nah it was a joke between us, see what no one realizes even the other three marauders is that the secret mastermind marauder is me."

"Interesting" Gellert offered his arm which she took and he apparated them towards the Potter ancestral home. Pulling out his wand he pushed it against the ward ringing the wizards version of a doorbell while saying "James Potter" which meant that you wanted that specific person.

A few minutes later James appeared. "Hey Lily, Garan."

He paused that was the name Lily had told the others when he was in the presence of someone else…

Lily seemed to come to the same realization. James smiled, "I totally forgot we were meeting today, give me a few minutes and we can head out."

With that James went back into his home. "Who was hidden under the invisibility cloak?"

"Sirius is currently living with James."

"Ah."

Finally James came out and he apparated them to a quaint little restaurant in germany. "Well than I have to admit I was quite impressed by your actions. Choosing to impersonate my forces. And even getting my elites on it and then crushing Voldemort's elites. And here I was thinking you would just send a letter or maybe leave a message painted somewhere. Go ahead ask your question."

"We want to know about Dumbledore and everything why did you call him a coward? What is he hiding?"

Over the next hour he told them everything he knew on Albus Dumbledore… Including how during their fight it was Albus's curse that killed his own sister.

"Wow… Dumbledore wouldn't be nearly so popular if people knew that about him." Harry muttered.

Gellert smirked, "Your mom said the exact same thing. Anyways that was the last task they did before they returned to Hogwarts for their final year of Hogwarts. I was going to leave and travel again having spent more time on back in our home dimension than I thought I would. But to my surprise I received a letter from the two of them. During the school year I found myself excited to read the letters and reply back to them. I was even able to help them with a few pranks of theirs."

"Our friendship was a surprise to both sides, but we all enjoyed it." His father fell silent.

"So how did you and my mom fall in love?"

Gellert smiled and was about to start when a buzz sounded. "Looks like someone is here to challenge me. I will tell you after, come watch."

Harry followed after him. Then a gym match started. Harry watched as his father called out different moves and the pokemon responded to the commands. His father won the challenge though he still gave a badge stating that the trainer had raised his pokemon well.

The challenger left and the two returned to the living room. "Now as for how we fell in love… well I think it all started due to the little upstart actually." He spoke as lunch was brought forth.

"Little upstart… Voldemort!?"

Gellert chuckled, "Yes I think that was when the feelings started for both of us… Let me start from their perspective from what they told me happened that day."
