Disclaimer-Passions and the song aren't mine

Summary-AU-ish. Liz still loves Antonio. Antonio and Sheridan have wed, but Antonio is suspecting that something is wrong, and he's still feeling for Liz!

I Wouldn't Go That Far

Brian and Liz were driving on an old, abandoned road on St. Lisa's. Liz and Brian were laughing out loud at a joke Brian had made.

"Here we are!" Brian announced, pulling up to the edge of a cliff. They were overlooking the beautiful scenery of St. Lisa's mountainous terrain. "The perfect spot for a romantic getaway!"

I'll never forget that night long ago

When he drove me down that old, dusty road

He took me as far and I'd ever been

He wanted me, and I wanted him

Liz stopped laughing. "Brian…no."

"What?"

"No! I'm not doing it, Brian! Not now!"

"But Liz, I love you, and I really want to prove it to you."

"Then don't make me do this, Brian!"

But I'd always been told to never give in

I wouldn't go that far

I didn't follow my heart

He said he loved me

But I wasn't ready

And I wouldn't go that far

"Well, I just wanted to make it romantic for us," Brian said. "Because here, tonight, I wanted to take you to wife."

"What?!" Liz looked over at him with wide eyes.

Brian reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue casket. He opened it to show Liz a pure gold band. "Will you marry me, Liz Sandbourne?"

Liz's eyes filled with tears. "Brian...I…I can't."

"What?!"

"Please Brian, not now. I'm not ready to marry anyone. Please. I love you, but I can't…not now."

Brian put the ring in his pocket. "Hey, I understand. I'll wait."

"Thank you." Liz kissed his cheek. "Thank you so much."

He was so patient; he didn't give up

With a ring in his hands and a heart full of love

He asked me forever, I asked him to wait

Please understand these dreams I must chase

Oh, it was a promise I wanted to make

Time passed, but Liz never answered. And eventually, Brian left to be with Diana.

I wouldn't go that far

Oh, I didn't follow my heart

I knew he loved me

But I wasn't ready

And I wouldn't go that far

Liz's mind snapped back to the present as Brian, now Antonio, stood before her, grinning. "Sheridan and I are gonna have a baby!"

Liz smiled. "That's great, Antonio!" she said with forced cheerfulness. 'It could've been me…'

"And congratulations on your promotion."

"Thanks." (A/N: Liz works in this fic)

After all these years, I saw him again

He had his wife and his family with him

He said his was proud of all my success

He guessed both of us had found happiness

Antonio and Sheridan walked away, leaving Liz with a cold, empty feeling within her aching heart.

But I wouldn't go that far

I didn't follow my heart

I knew he loved me

But I wasn't ready

I wouldn't go that far

Yes, I know he loved me

But I wasn't ready

And I wouldn't go that far

Sorry for the shortness, but this is an introductory chapter.
