So sorry I haven't updated this story in so long but I got a new job a few months ago and moved to a new city and now that things have calmed down a bit, I decided to get back into writing. I know this story hasnt had an update in over a year but I still felt like finishing it off.

I decided to combine the next two episodes into one since I feel Oliver's involvement with Dark side of the moon would be limited.

Chapter 16: Dark Side of the Moon/Not Kansas

Lena's Lab

Oliver had spend the better part of the last few days with Lena and the DEO in her lab as she works to try and find a cure for Sam and to keep her contained until Supergirl returned with the element they needed to split the two. Oliver and Evelyn were both armed to the teeth with kryptonite and red sun weapons as well as some mystically imbued blade Constantine had provided that he believe would be useful against Kryptonians.

Just as Lena predicted, Lena broke free of her bonds and Lena's attempt to use the lethal Kryptonite dose failed. However before Reign could attacked, Kara and Mon-El returned, Harun-El in hand.

Reign laucnhed her attacked by first striking Kara and sending her flying into the elevator and then using a sonic scream on two nearby DEO agents. Oliver and Evelyn fire their first round of mystic arrows at Reign. The shot managed to injure Reign and allow Kara and throw Reign into the ceiling. As Lena worked to craft the serum, Reign counter attacked Kara whilst Mon-El tried to tackle her. Both heroes then combined their attacks and used cape tricks to throw Reign off balance. Oliver and Evelyn then notched another round of arrows and fired into Reign's legs immobilizing her. Kara pined Reign in a choke hold while Mon-El injected her with the serum. Reign convulsed as the two entities separated from each other. Reign eventually split from Sam leaving the human side of her unconscious and nake on the floor as she floated into the air and disintegrated.

Kara draped her cape over Sam to cover her modesty as Oliver approached. "Sam? Can you hear me?"

Sam mumbled. "Can I get some Aspirin?"

Kara's Loft

"Your mom is alive?"

"It doesn't feel real. But it is.I saw her, I listened to her voice, I touched her, I hugged her. My mom has been alive all these years, living in the city where I grew up. A lot of it's destroyed, but most of it's been rebuilt, and it's exactly the same. Like, I never thought that I would smell the Dar-Essa flower again, but look, there are dozens of them."

"I know what that feels like." Oliver replied. "When I was the dominator's prisoner, they trapped us in a virtual world where I got to be with my mother, father, Tommy and everyone else I'd lost."

"So you wanna go back." Alex asked as if she already knew the answer.

"I've tried so hard to make Earth my home, Alex. And it has been, because of you, both of you." You've been so much more than a sister to me. And you Oliver, you filled my heart. And no matter where I go, both of you will always be in it."

"How long will you be gone?" Olive asked.

"I don't know. I feel... Guilty. I... I feel selfish." Kara sighed

"Hey. You have given all of us so much as Supergirl. Reign is gone. And you're choosing family. Choosing to be with your family is never selfish." Oliver said.

"Are you sure you don't want to come with me?" Kara asked.

Oliver smiled. "Believe me, I'd love nothing. But I have a son and a daughter here and..."

"And your choosing family too." Kara finished. "I knew there was a reason I fell for you. You may be all brooding and cold on the outside but on the inside you as all mushy."

"Please don't tell anyone." Oliver smiled back at her as he inched in closer. "I have a rep to maintain."

"Ugh." Alex said feigning disgust. "If you two keep being this cute then Winn's gotta come up with a couple name for you two... Like SuprArrow or Karliver."

"Please for the love of God dont." Oliver replied. "Barry would never shut up if he heard.

National City Bank

After Kara left for Argo, Oliver and Evelyn joined James on a patrol partially to ease their boredom and distract Oliver from Kara being gone. As they patrolled, they caught wind of a shooting at the local bank. When Oliver and James arrived on scene, they saw a man poorly hiding a rifle under his jacket before turning and firing at the cop who was chasing him. Oliver dragged the cop to cover while James soaked up the fire with his shield.

After the fire stopped, the two heroes emerged from their hiding spots and noticed that the shooter was gone. "Was that a cannon?" Winn asked. "What kind of weapon was that?"

DEO HQ

"I heard you went into a bank robbery with some kind of concerning weaponry. Alien guns again?" J'onn asked.

I would say DEO weaponry. This one to be exact." James replied showcasing the rifle.

"A DEO M4A1? What? No, that's impossible. After Agent Schott's mother raided this place, I had every weapon in here microchipped." J'onn explained.

"Look, J'onn, we even did a ballistics test out on the firing range." Oliver replied. "We shot this weapon at that shield from the same distance using the same hard jacks the DEO uses."

"Which one was which?" J'onn asked.

"Can't tell. Because the impact is identical." Winn explained.

"That's just impossible. We use proprietary technology, guns solely designed for our use." J'onn replied clearly still not buying it.

"Somebody shot this weapon at me and a cop, and he got away. We need to catch the guy because if he's still planning on using it, it'll be a blood bath." Evelyn stated.

Preston Firearms Corporate Office

"Director J'onzz, Mr. Olsen and you are?" Preston asked.

"This is Agent Queen. He's running point on this investigation." J'onn explained. "Thank you for seeing us, Mr. Preston, we won't take up too much of your time. We just have a few questions."

"No problem. Our contract with your division of the FBI is one of our most important."

Oliver began his questioning. "Have there been any missing shipments of weapons? Anything from your factories?"

"Absolutely not." Preston replied.

"Well, the suspect used a weapon identical to one of Director J'onzz's assault rifles and used it to shoot at a police officer." James explained.

"Is the officer all right?" Preston asked.

"He will be." James answered.

"That's a relief. Well, as for theories, the criminal may have purchased one of our Heel-14 rifles and modified it with a bump stock."

"I'm sorry, a "Heel-14"? I haven't heard of that designation for a weapon before." Oliver asked."

"We designed a civilian version of the assault rifle we produced for you. Not to worry, it's perfectly legal, and in line with our contract, it's a hunting rifle." Preston answered.

"That is not a hunting rifle. Someone used a weapon we designed and used it against a police officer." J'onn cried at Preston.

"And that is not your fault any more than it's mine." Preston explained.

"Yeah, but you can do something about it. You can stop selling that weapon." James replied.

"I have 2,000 employees to pay. Taking any of our products off the market hurts every one of them. This is a family business, and our guns bring families together. I remember when my grandpa gave me my first hunting rifle and taught me how to shoot. It was an inter-generational experience. And it's my hope to help as many Americans as possible, capture that feeling, and pass it on to their children."

J'onn interrupted as he felt the conversation deviating from the topic at hand. "No one values families more than I do, but the man holding that weapon is using it to commit violence. All right, here's what's gonna happen right now. You are gonna hand over all documentation relating to the Heel-14, and you're gonna comply completely, 100% with our investigation. If you do not, we'll take our business elsewhere."

"Of course, I'll comply. I wouldn't dream of standing in the way of your investigation." Preston answered as he started to gather the documents on his computer.

"No, you just dream of a world where everybody's armed to the teeth, right?" James shot at Preston.

"And you dream of a world where every person reads CatCo magazine." Preston shot back. "We're both businessmen, Mr. Olsen."

Oliver grabbed James by the arm just as James looked like he might slug the guy. "Take a breather and calm down. He's not the enemy today."

DEO HQ

"Any leads on tracking the gun owner?"James asked.

"Listen, we are only able to identify 10% of the people that actually purchased the Heel-14, and that is with state-of-the-art tracking." Winn answered.

"So, what's the next move?" James asked.

"Old-fashioned police line-up." Oliver replied. "We need you to take a look at some photos, James, see if you recognize the guy who bought the gun. Winn, let's start with the guys that purchased more than one weapon."

Winn then threw the list on the screen. Within a few seconds, James had a hit. "Okay. That's him. Bottom right corner, Arthur Willis."

"Okay. Arthur Willis. Are you sure? 'Cause this says that he passed his instant background check at the gun show. He has no history of mental health issues, I mean, he doesn't seem like a threat."

"How many guns did he buy?" Oliver asked.

"Uh, let's see. Four that I can see." Winn answered.

"Get a strike team together Oliver." J'onn ordered.

Oliver prepared to leave and suit up but James quickly protested. "Wait, a strike team?"

"What do you want me to do, James?" J'onn asked. "This man is a clear and present danger. We can't just ignore the threat he poses."

"If you send your guys out there with the same weapons as him, it's gonna turn into a war zone."

"And if we don't do in armed, it'll turn into a bloodbath." Evelyn replied. "This guy is armed and dangerous and probably unstable. What are the chances we can reason with him?"

"Evelyn's right. I need my guys to be armed to defend themselves, and protect the public." J'onn countered. "We're not the bad guys here."

"Sometimes, without trying, we can be part of the problem." James countered back not backing dow from his stance.

"Uh, I'm so sorry to interrupt, I have just been perusing Arthur's social media, and he just posted what looks like a manifesto."

"To whom it concerns, so you understand why. For those who ruined my life, for the partners of Vang and Morales who spit on me when they fired me." Evelyn read aloud.

"Vang and Morales, that is a law firm." Winn stated "

It's in the same business plaza as the bank where the cops spotted him. He wasn't robbing the bank." James deduced. "

He's going back to his office." Oliver finished as he then rushed out of the control room and suited up.

Vang and Morales Law Office

Oliver, James and J'onn had gotten a lead to check the storage entrance whilst Evelyn and Alex cleared the workers from the office. As they searched room by room, they eventually came upon Arthur, armed and ready. J'onn then took the chance to reveal himself.

"Arthur?" J'onn stated showing himself with his hands raised.

"Who are you?" Arthur asked.

"Just someone who wants to talk." J'onn admitted.

"Yeah, well, it's too late for that now. No one wanted to listen to me before, but they are gonna listen to me now. This is the only way for me to be heard."

"Arthur, if you pull that trigger, no one's gonna listen to a thing you have to say." J'onn explained as calmly as he possibly could.

"They took everything from me!" Arthur screamed brandishing his rifle.

Oliver took this act as a sign of aggression and slowly notched an arrow and slowly took aim preparing to fire at him.

"What are you doing?" James whispered.

"This guy is clearly angry and he's armed." Oliver explained silently. "If he makes an aggressive move, I'm going to do my job. Stop him before he hurts anyone."

"And to stop him, you'd kill him?!" James asked.

"If I had to." Oliver replied.

However before Oliver had to make that choice, the situation was resolved. J'onn convinced the man to stand down and surrender without a fight.

DEO HQ

As the team moved back into the HQ, Oliver spotted J'onn in his office and he went up to speak with him. "So scuttlebutt around the office is that the DEO's contract with Preston Firearms has been cancelled. Do I take that to mean that the DEO isn't going to be using lethal force anymore?"

J'onn smiled. "I must admit I've always been impressed by your ability to get information. But to answer your question, yes. James convinced me that if we are going to make lasting change in the world, this is a choice we have to make."

Oliver nodded silently. "You know when I began this life, I knew that I was going to have to make hard choices to survive and win. But as more people joined my mission, I never understood why people were so quickly to trust me as a leader. I wasn't an inspirational hero like Kara or Barry nor did I have the charisma that Sara has with the Legends. But for some reason, all three of them and every other hero I've met always went to me for leadership and I never really understood why till I moved to this Earth."

By now, Oliver had J'onn's full attention. "People looked to me as a leader because I understood what it meant to be a leader as opposed to just a hero. A hero's job is to protect the innocent but a leader's job is to protect those who put their trust in him so that the team can do their mission. J'onn, whichever choice you choose, I'll support. Just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons."

J'onn stayed in his office for several minutes contemplating what Oliver had told him. Eventually he left the office and ordered every agent to gather round. "I have an important announcement to make. Today we had to deal with a crisis, which, sadly, has become all too common in our country. Normally, this would not fall onto the purview of the DEO, but because of the decisions I've made about how we choose to protect ourselves, we played a role. But today we will make a stand. Agent Schott has begun construction of a line of non lethal weaponry which we will put into use effective immediately. Every agent will also undergo additional training to provide you all with greater abilities to subdue targets without lethal force."

One of the agents rose his hand, concern evident on his face. "Director J'onzz sir, what about our lethal weaponry. Will we still be allowed to use those?"

J'onn continued. "I truly hope you don't have to. However your safety is still my number one priority I don't want to put you at more risk than you already deal with so yes, the DEO will still use lethal weapons."

James looked surprised by this revelation. "But I believe we can have a lasting, important and necessary impact on the world by doing this. The greatest strength in the universe lies not in war, but in peace. And I trust in all of you to always work towards that goal."

James approached J'onn after he dismissed the agents. "J'onn I believe in strength and peace too. But why not phase out your guns."

J'onn put his hand on James's shoulder. "James, everyone here believes in that goal but we all use different tools to achieve it. You use your shield, Oliver uses his bow, my agents use their guns and I use my position as a leader. And Oliver reminded me of something important. My job as a leader to is make sure those that have put their trust in me have the tools they need to complete the mission I've entrusted to them and to you. And if I took away those tools, then I wouldn't be doing my job as their leader."

I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter and my return as a writer. To be honest when I first watched this episode I liked that they took a shot at discussing the gun debate but I felt like they tried to overly simply a very complex issue and I wasn't the biggest fan of J'onn disarming the DEO of lethal weapons especially considering the threats they face.

All the same, I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to leave a message or a review. Once again I apologize for the year long delay but I hope there's still someone out there still reading my stories.
