I said I write a Yang version and here it is. Just took me longer than expected. I had most of it already written but I took a longer break and just finished the last given or taken 3000 words recently. This chapter is also a few thousand words longer than the first.
I should also admit that I thought more of just finishing this chapter already and didn't really got into it. I hope it's still good enough for you guys.
Also, no beta reader so all mistakes are mine. Feel free to point them out. Knowing what I did wrong will help me improve (maybe).
Yang never liked being alone. There was always someone around. If it were her parents, Taiyang and Summer, her uncle Qrow, her sister Ruby or her friends or other kids from the neighbourhood. That's why she decided to approach the black haired girl that one day.
Summer took her two daughters to the park. Ruby and Yang went to the other kids on the playground. It wasn't long after that the blonde girl noticed her.
A girl sat under one of the trees, away from the other children running around and having fun. She had black hair and a pair of cat ears on top of her head. In her lap was a thick book.
Yang couldn't understand why she was all by herself. It must be lonely. So she went over to her.
It turned out the ravenette's name was Blake and she had really soft and delicate hands. She liked to read and was a lot better at it than Yang herself. The faunus was shy but really nice. She read Yang's favourite fairy tale to her.
Yang was a girl with lots of energy and she liked to run around, climb on trees and generally move around a lot. But sitting there, listening to Blake's steadily more sure growing voice was really nice. Of course it wasn't like one of her parents read to her. They did so more fluent and with changed voices for the characters but Yang liked how Blake sounded and how she got more confident with every paragraph she read. At the second fairy tale, Blake's favourite 'beauty and the beast', she made a lot less mistakes. Her voice easily became one of Yang's favourite sounds.
Yang was sad when they couldn't finish the third one. Her mother had called out to her and she had to go. She ran towards Summer and Ruby, who already stood next to her, but stopped. She went back to Blake to thank her and gave her a small kiss on her cheek, just like her mother did to her when she did something well, and left. The faunus had been so adorable with how shy she had acted. While she ran to her family she was sure of one thing. Yang wanted to spend more time with the faunus.
They became friends and spent a lot of time by the other. Yang's family had a dog, a small corgi called Zwei, that the faunus was very afraid of at first. She had been bitten by a dog before and clung to Yang every time Zwei came close to her. She even went so far as to climb on furniture at the beginning. But over time she got used to him and worked hard to overcome her fear.
After Blake and Yang found out they went to the same school they always meet up to lunch and eat together. The blonde introduced Blake to her other friends Nora, Ren and Jaune. It took a little bit before she was comfortable around them but they still became friends.
Yang noticed how Blake always kept distance from other students, even going so far as to shrink away when some of them went by them. She also noticed the dirty glares those groups directed at the ravenette. It took a few weeks for Yang to find out why.
Blake didn't show up when lunch started and she begun to worry. They would normally have meet up by now. Yang saw her friend enter school this morning. She went to search for her.
With no idea where to look Yang just ran around the school ground and through the building, calling for her. Nobody answered.
It was only when she wanted to go upstairs that she heard it. Someone was crying. Yang followed the sound. And there, covering in a corner under the stairs, was Blake, trying her best to keep the sounds as quiet as possible.
"Blake?" Yang spoke her name as she slowly came closer.
The faunus turned her head away but otherwise didn't show any sign that she noticed the blonde. Her arms hugged her knees against her chest and her ears lay flat on her head, not visible in her black hair.
Yang kneeled down in front of her. "Blake, what's wrong?"
Sniffing, the ravenette lifted her head. Yang instantly noticed the busted lip.
"Yang." Her voice was so small and hoarse from crying.
The blonde clenched her fists and she felt anger rising inside her. How could someone do that to Blake? Who ever it was, they had to pay for it!
"Who did that?" The question was more of a growl and the faunus flinched at the anger coming from the normally friendly girl.
Blake sniffed again before whispering an answer. "Cardin and his friends."
The next instance Yang was on her feet. "I'll make them pay for it!"
She was about to go and show them what it meant to mess with one of her friends but a soft tuck on her sleeve made her look back at Blake.
"Stay."
For just a moment Yang thought about refusing the simple request but one look in watery golden eyes stopped her. Blake needed her right now.
She sat next to her and pulled the faunus close. Arms warped around her and Blake clung to Yang like she was her lifeline. She buried her face into the blonde's chest and started to cry again. Yang did the only thing she could do and held her, slowly rubbing circles on her back. It didn't take long for Blake to start telling her everything, sniffing and through hiccups.
Some of the other kids, mostly Cardin and his friends, picked on Blake for being a faunus. They made fun of her, pulled on her hair and ears, called her names and sometimes even hit her.
Yang could only pull her closer, while she was angry at them for hurting Blake and at herself for never noticing, she wouldn't leave her friend alone, not when she needed her there right now.
The bell rang to show that lunch had ended but the two girls stayed where they were, missing the next classes.
It was this day that Yang vowed to herself she would become strong and protect her best friend. She started kickboxing not long after.
But while Yang did her best to keep bullies away from Blake, she couldn't always protect her. After they started going into the same class it made it easier to stay close together. Yang knew that they still picked on her every chance they got. Blake would come to Yang for comfort when it happened. The blonde wanted to teach them a lesson but the faunus always stopped her. She told Yang that she would be fine as long as Yang was there to hold her. It was only after the blonde got a black eye protecting Blake that the teachers heard about it and informed their parents. After that the bullying stopped but Blake and Yang still stuck together every time it was possible.
It was a really good thing that it stopped because it was just a few weeks later that Yang's mother died in an accident. The two sister had been at home when their farther came home unusually early. He had made his way into the kitchen and took one of the bottles Yang and Ruby were strictly forbidden to touch. Not that that had stopped them from trying it but the things there had tasted so bad that they couldn't understand how anyone could drink it.
Taiyang was taking a big sip from the bottle before sitting down on the kitchen table and started wailing like a little child.
"Dad, what's wrong?" Yang asked, clearly uneasy with his strange behaviour.
"She's gone. Oh god, why? Why did it have to be her?" He took another swig from his drink.
"Who is gone? Dad, what's going on?" The girl was now afraid and behind her Ruby was starting to cry, even thought they didn't know what exactly was going on.
"Summer. She's… She's…" He stopped for a moment before he chocked the words out. "Summer is dead."
For a moment Yang just starred at her father as the meaning of the words sunk in. Her lilac eyes widened and tears gathered in them.
That couldn't be true. That had to be a joke, a cruel, sick joke. But Taiyang didn't look like he was joking. His eyes were empty as he stared at the table and took one mouthful after the other from his bottle.
She wiped her tears away when she heard Ruby bawl behind her. Their farther clearly wasn't in the state to comfort his daughters. He didn't even seem tho notice them anymore.
Yang took Ruby into her arms and held her. Their mother would never come back and someone had to be their for the small brunette. The blonde swore that she would be that someone. She would stay strong and comfort Ruby. She would protect her and be their for her, no matter what. Even if she had to force down the sadness and the emptiness rising inside her.
The same day Qrow came to visit them. He started to get angry with Tai late in the night and started yelling at him. Yang was laying together with Ruby in her bed and held her, her hands over Ruby's ears, while she hoped it would soon stop.
The next days Qrow tried his best to be their for his nieces but he was also suffering under Summer's dead. He also often argued with Taiyang and it was one of that times that he let the information slip.
Back at home and whit all the guest gone after the funeral Qrow was nearly yelling at the blond man.
"…but it's even worse for them! Not just did they lose their mother but their dad with her! Fuck, Yang even lost two mothers at this point! You can't just drown your pain in alcohol! You have to be their for them! You can't just leave them like that! It's not better than what Raven did to her daughter!"
It was the first time he really got a reaction out of Tai. He stood up and pushed his finger into Qrow's face.
"Don't you dare compare me with her!" His voice was low and dangerous. "I didn't just suddenly pack my things one night and leave the person I'm supposed to love and my only daughter alone! I didn't leave them to try pick up the pieces and fetch for themselves! I'm not going to leave my children!"
It was about that time that Yang noticed that Ruby had come over to her. The blonde took her sister upstairs so she wouldn't hear them. And while she held the crying girl Yang tried to make sense of what she just heard.
The next day Blake came over. She looked so completely out of place but at that time Yang couldn't really find it in herself to care. But the moment she felt the other's arms around her she didn't felt so alone anymore.
Not so long after Ruby had fallen asleep in their arms and Blake grabbed Yang's arm. She started to pull her away but the boxer refused to move from her sister's side.
"Yang, it's okay. It won't take long and she's sleeping right now. And Qrow is here to look after her."
Yang looked at Ruby's sleeping face, it was the only time these days she wasn't crying, and reluctantly let Blake pull her away and out of the house. The faunus lead her into the forest and Yang just followed, not knowing and not caring where they were going as long as she could go back soon. Ruby need her after all.
After they were a good way from the house Blake suddenly stopped and pulled Yang against her. She instantly felt warmth run trough her at the contact.
"You don't have to hold it in anymore."
It was if Blake's words made the feelings she had tried to bottle up start to rise.
"It's just us."
And they seemed to break down over her. It was nearly impossible to held her emotions back.
"You can let it all out. We're alone, nobody will see."
Tears started to fill her eyes and Yang started to cling at her friend while she tried to stay strong.
"You don't have to be strong all the time. It's just us."
And just like that Yang gave up on her efforts and let it all crash down on her. She held on to Blake as if she was the only thing preventing her from getting swept away with the last barrier.
Her unnatural silence was broken with a pain filled scream and she suddenly couldn't stop bawling. She lost all her strength as she, for the first time since she got the news, faced the feelings resting inside her.
She hadn't known she needed it so much but she could finally let it all free. The only one to witness her weak moment was Blake and Yang was thankful for it. Because the faunus was the only one she felt like she could let her walls down around. Yang hadn't felt so safe in a while. Blake was her anchor, the one who held her grounded while she was swallowed by her own misery.
It had taken her way longer to calm down than she thought and she felt so exhausted like she had ran a marathon. But Blake was there and supported her both physically and mentally.
Ruby was just about to wake up when they reached the house and Yang could see a short but thankful smile on her uncles face as he noticed Yang's state.
The three girls went to bed early and the blonde knew she could trust Blake with everything. She waited until Ruby was back asleep before she opened up to the ravenette.
But as much as she trusted Blake she didn't want to rely on her her or her family. She was too proud and stubborn to accept help from anyone as she started to take care of Ruby and herself.
But with her new responsibilities Yang started to have less free time and she was more exhausted most of the days. Blake always wanted to help and take some of the burden off her but Yang never let her. She started to avoid the faunus but she could feel her worried gaze on her ever so often. And while somehow annoying it was also comforting because she knew that the moment she would fell under the new wight on her shoulders Blake would be there to help her back up.
It took some years but Taiyang started to stop drinking and be more present in his daughters' lives again. It was a big relieve for his oldest who could concentrate on more things than taking care of her sister again.
She also started to reconnect with Blake but also others.
She had noticed how she had grown and that just not in high and she wasn't the only one. The boys from the school started to give her more attention than she was used to.
It was new and a little scary but Yang soon found that she didn't dislike the attention. She always liked to make new friends and to share her happiness with others.
It wasn't long that the first boy asked her out on a date. It was the most popular boy in class and there was no way Yang would turn him down. He was attractive but during the time they spent together in a cafe she noticed that she didn't really liked him. He was arrogant and a jerk.
But it didn't matter because one of the other guys had taken her interest. He had dark hair and was more on the quiet side but he was nice and fun to spent time with.
They had went on two dates so far and that was their third. They were sitting on a park bench and watched the sunset when Yang noticed how he looked at her lips.
Yang never admitted to it but she was a romantic at heart and she always wanted to have the perfect first kiss. A kiss just like in those romance novels she secretly liked and loved when Blake had read them to her. Thought the ravenette hadn't read much to Yang in some time and the blonde hadn't asked her to.
The thought of her first kiss had always exited her but when the boy leaned towards her it didn't felt right. Even worse her stomach clenched uncomfortably and she started to feel sick.
It wasn't that she thought him disgusting or anything like that but the thought of kissing the black haired boy somehow filled her with dread. It just didn't feel right.
Afterwards Yang ended things with him but she could never really explain her friends why and it wasn't long until she started gushing about someone else to them. He was a nerd and bookworm with glasses and really cute especially with how shy he was.
But like with all the other boys Yang went out with, it never felt right and so she ended it pretty fast. It got her a certain reputation but she never cared for it.
Some of her friends were more exited about the subject than others. To Yang's relieve Ruby never cared for such thing as romance. Weiss would gush over some boys and later only over Neptune. Nora and Ren had only eyes for each other and Pyrrha was clearly interested in Jaune who was absolutely clueless and hitting on Weiss.
Blake always got more quiet when the topic of love interests came up and concentrated more on her book than the conversation but she would give her opinion if asked. The black haired girl had rejected the few confessions she got.
The blond monkey faunus Sun started to join their group early in High School and with him came Neptune.
Sun had befriended Blake and Yang was really surprised when she found out how it came to that. He got rejected by the broody ravenette but Yang never felt sorry for him. He was a nice guy and they had a lot of fun together but she could never image him and Blake being more. She never really wanted to.
Yang knocked at the door. It wasn't even late but the day had felt too long. After school was over the boxer had gone home and got ready for a date. The boy she went with had been trying to get her attention for some time and he had been so sweet the last weeks that she had agreed. But the reason she had even hesitated to go on this date with him had been his reputation.
The door opened and a small woman with short black hair, a pair of pierced cat ears and golden eyes stood there. She had a strong resemblance to her daughter.
"Hello, Kali. I didn't thought you were already back from work. Is Blake there?" Yang greeted her.
"Oh I got off early, there wasn't much to do today. Yes, Blake is in her room."
Kali answered with a smile and let Yang in. The woman had always liked Yang, glad her daughter had such a good friend that would also pull her out of the house and Blake's comfort zone.
Yang must know this house as good as her own by now with how much time she had spent here.
She hadn't even opened the door to Blake's room more than a crack when she heard her friend's voice. "Shouldn't you be on a date right now."
The ravenette wasn't even looking up from her book as she asked that. She was sitting on her bed, propped up against the headboard.
"How did you know it was me?" Yang asked as she closed the door behind her. She went over to the bed.
"I heard you voice from downstairs and I recognize your steps." She said and flicked one of her cat ears to empathize her point.
"Just like a real cat." The blonde commented with a grin as she let herself fall down on the bed face first.
Setting a bookmark in place, the faunus put the book aside and looked down at Yang who's head was on the pillow next to her.
"How bad was it?" She asked.
Yang groaned and turned a little so she could look Blake in the eye.
"Terrible. I know he was a skirt chaser but he had never put so much effort into it from what I heard. I thought he could be serious. All those small romantic gestures and barely had we meet up he tried the grope me the whole time he even tried to touch my hair. I couldn't stand it and left."
While Yang had talked Blake had started to comb her hand through blonde locks and the boxer had but her head in the others lap as she enjoyed the treatment.
Yang was very protective of her hair and only two people were allowed to touch it. Yang herself and Blake. Summer had often braided it into piggy tails when the blonde was younger. Ruby had lost the privilege when she was six. She wanted to braid it too and had accidentally ripped a few strands out. Yang knew it was because of her lack of experience with such things and her young age and that she would be more careful now but Yang just couldn't get over it.
The first time Blake had touched the brawlers hair had been after she got into a fight with a boy bullying the faunus. As soon as he had left them alone Yang had nearly started to cry because it had hurt so much, she just hadn't wanted him to see, and Blake had taken her into her arms. She had thanked Yang and tried to comfort her with combing through the voluminous mane. Since then had the ravenette the permission to do so.
"You didn't break his nose, did you?" Blake asked half joking half serious. The last time someone else had tried to touch Yang's hair she had lashed out at them and broken their nose.
"No, but he learned how painful it is to get a punch in his solar plexus."
"You didn't hurt him seriously, right?"
"'Course not but he should've learned his lesson. But I don't want to talk about it anymore. What were you reading?"
It was a simple question but one of the few that could make Blake talk more than usual. The girl didn't talk much and answered in short sentences if possible, coming of as aloof and sometimes even arrogant which wasn't true at all. She was just shy. Blake was more talkative with her friends but she was still a quiet person. But there were topics even Blake could ramble on about. One of those were equality for faunus', something she was really passionate about, and another one was her books she loved so much.
And Yang liked to listen to Blake talk. She had the kind of voice you could listen to without getting bored of it and it had a calming effect on the boxer.
Yang's seventeenth birthday came up and Yang was exited. She had seen her dad look up parts for the motorcycle she was building. It was nearly complete with only one component missing. The one her dad was searching for. He had hastily changed the side he was looking at when he noticed her coming into the room and she acted as if she hadn't seen it.
But she knew her baby would soon be finished and she was already thinking on the paint job she would give it and how she would name it.
Blake was the first one to arrive at the day, way earlier than the others to help prepare everything, and Qrow showed up not much later. It was later that day that the other guest showed up and the party started.
After the cake was eaten Yang opened the present. The first one she took was from her uncle. The new pair of boxing gloves were needed because her old ones showed that they were used often.
The next present she took was warped in yellow with a purple ribbon. Yang didn't need to read the card to know who it was from.
She stopped when she saw what it was. She looked up at the person it was from with shinning eyes. She couldn't stop the bright smile on her face from spreading.
"Blake? Is that…?" Yang didn't really understand, she was supposed to get the part from her dad, but she was really happy about it. A small part from her asked itself what she would get from her father instead because she couldn't believe that her friend would risk getting her the same thing as he. But that didn't matter in that moment. Blake's present was incredible, just like she herself was, and Yang had to thank her probably.
The boxer pulled her into her arms and buried her face in black tresses as she held her close for a moment.
"Thank you so much." Yang muttered before pulling away. She smiled at Blake as she answered but something in the faunus' voice sounded strange. She had no time to think about it because Nora's voice filled the room.
"Dame you, Blake. How are we supposed to top that?" She didn't wait for an answer and turned to Yang. "Why did you had to open her present so early? That's not fair."
They all shared a laugh.
"Don't worry, Nora, I won't think anything less of the other presents." The blonde assured her. She started to unpack the rest.
She got some new trainings equipment and new games for her console, concert tickets for one of her favourite bands and some other cool stuff. Her father had given her the helmet she had been eying for some time now, even with her emblem on the side.
Ruby often wanted to play superheros and they decided that they needed some kind of symbol as heroes. So they all made one for themselves and somehow they still sticked them on their cloths and other thinks. The emblems had changed a little over the time, mostly just the drawing got better, but Yang still used the burning heart as her distinctive mark.
They all joked some more and they had turned on some music.
Her dad and Qrow had said good bye at some point and Yang was looking for Blake at the party. She hadn't seen her since opening the presents and was wondering were she went. It wasn't long before she spied the faunus coming from the bathroom.
For a split second Yang thought Blake looked sad but when the faunus looked at her she gave her a genius smile that the boxer couldn't help but return. It must've been her imagination, there was no reason for Blake to be sad.
Yang wanted to get over to thank her again for her incredible present but was stopped by Nora. The girl's voice brought everyone's attention to her.
"Now that the boring, old guys are gone, let's have some real fun! Time for 'Truth or Dare'!"
She put an empty bottle on the ground and spun it after everyone had sat down on the floor.
It was only on the fourth round, after a embarressing story from Jaune, a stolen bottle beer and Weiss finally admitting to dating Neptune, that the bottle stopped at Yang and she instantly picked dare.
The heiress to one of the biggest companies world wide gave her a smug look.
"I dare you to kiss Blake."
The blonde was shocked at first but then just shrugged. She would be able to do that. That wasn't a really interesting dare. Just a quick peck on Blake's lips, noting special at all.
"And I don't mean just a small kiss but a real one." Weiss added.
Yang's eyes widened for split second and she turned towards Weiss.
"Weiss, I never thought you were into this kind of thing. Maybe you should dump Neptune and search for someone more… feminine." She made the little jab to her in hope of overplaying the sudden nervousness cursing through her. Why did her heart have to beat so fast all of a sudden? The idea of kissing one of the boys she was with had never had this kind of effect on her.
Never had she felt so exited about the prospect of kissing someone. It was what she had always wanted but the person responsible for it was someone she had never thought of like that.
She went over to Blake and kneeled in front of her. The ravenette hadn't moved since the dare was made and while she somehow managed to keep her usual neutral expression, Yang could see how nervous she was. It was even close to panic.
The blonde was one who liked challenges and never backed down from one, that's why she always took dare. But right now Blake was also involved and Yang didn't want to make her best friend uncomfortable, which she obviously was.
"You OK with it, Blakey?" Yang asked and prepared to refuse the dare, for the first time ever, to not force Blake into something she didn't want.
She was more than surprised when the faunus nodded, not taking her golden eyes from Yang's. The intense gaze set her heart into an even faster pace than before. It could also be because of the fact that she was indeed going to kiss Blake. And not just a simple peak but a real kiss, what ever that meant. Was she supposed to keep the kiss going long enough to count as a real one or did it required an open mouthed kiss or, and Yang's head went into over drive at the thought, does it have to be a french kiss?
Oh god, she was starting to panic!
She tried to calm herself down and didn't noticed how she breathed her next thought.
"I hadn't imaged my first kiss like that."
Yang had imaged it a lot different, with a handsome guy in a really romantic and cliché setting with fireworks going off when their lips met, fugitive speaking and maybe even literally.
But apparently her first kiss was going to be a result of a dare from a stupid game and with her best friend before all her other friends, and herself close to a panic attack. Absolutely not like imaged. But no backing down now.
Yang leaned towards Blake and cupped her cheek. It was soft to the touch and the contact made her fingers prickle. Would it feel the same when they kissed?
Her eyes dropped from nervous amber to pink lips. They would probably be even softer. No reason to stall longer than necessary. Yang closed her eyes and the remaining distance.
And she had been right, they were softer but the contact didn't make her mouth tingle, it sent electricity through her and her heart was beating way to fast. It felt amazing but Yang wasn't sure how to continue from here.
She didn't need to think about it as a hand suddenly grabbed her hair and pulled her closer, deeper into the kiss. The bold move shocked her and the moment her lips parted a slightly rough tongue slipped into her mouth, exploring it. Yang could barely suppress a moan while her body felt like it caught fire. All thoughts were lost and the only thing the boxer could do was kiss back and hearing and feeling Blake moan into her mouth made her eyes fly open and her arms weak. She wasn't sure how much longer she could hold herself up. The burning in her lungs started to match the one from the rest of her body, especially her core, and they screamed for air. But Blake's grip on her hair was firm, though not painful, and held her in place. It was only when Yang felt like she would pass out, from both pleasure and lack of oxygen, that Blake pulled away.
The blonde tried to catch her breath and only absentmindedly noticed that she had moved her right to help support her wight. Both arms were shaking slightly.
"Wow." She was still breathless and couldn't think clearly. "Blake, that was…" She had no words to describe the mind blowing kiss, awesome or incredible wasn't cutting it.
Still too lost in the lingering sensation she only noticed the faunus' growing panic after she pulled her hand away and started to stammer. "I-I…"
The next way too erected heartbeat Blake was on her feet and out of the room, the door slamming shut behind her.
Yang was too stunned to react instantly but shoot up as soon as she realized what happened and was about to follow her friend when a small hand held her back.
"Let me talk to her." Weiss' ice blue eyes didn't let any room to argue.
The blonde nodded dumbfounded, not sure what was going on right now but knowing it wasn't good.
It was Neptune's voice that broke the stunned silence in the room and pulled Yang from her thoughts.
"That was hot."
"Dude, not the right time." Sun muttered and gave his friend a slight shove.
"But it's true."
Yang ignored the two and tried to understand what just happened. She had barley initiated the kiss when Blake had taken control of it and kissed back. And god, how she had kissed back. Neptune wasn't wrong when he said it had been hot, because that was what it had been and how it had made Yang feel. It had been hot and it had felt more than just good. It wasn't how she had imaged her first kiss, with fireworks and loving, but it had felt right and incredible and Yang had liked it a lot. She wished they could've continued it.
Yang didn't think Blake had to go to such length to make it a 'real kiss', especially because she hadn't really wanted to. But if she didn't wanted to kiss Yang – it was Blake's first kiss too, the blonde suddenly remembered – why did she kiss her like that? Because if it had made her uncomfortable enough to flee she couldn't have wanted it. Then why say yes?
Yang cut the line of thought. It wasn't bringing her anywhere and right now her concern for her friend was her top priority. She just hoped Blake was okay.
The blonde hadn't even noticed how she had started peacing or how the others were looking at her and the door worriedly. She was too concerned about Blake to noticed anything going on. The faunus was obviously upset and Yang was sure it was because of her and the kiss. But it had been Blake who deepened it and Yang had to suppress a shudder at the memory of Blake's rough tongue in her mouth. Only now did the thought occurred to Yang that maybe Blake hadn't enjoyed it like she did. What if she hadn't been good? When she was a terrible kisser?
The boxer pushed the thought aside. That wasn't important now. What mattered was Blake and how she had panicked after the unbelievable good kiss. It couldn't have been her first, Yang mused. With how uncharacteristically forward Blake had acted and how incredible it had been she must have experience. But Blake never told her about ever kissing someone. And somehow the thought alone made her feel sick.
Not important right now, the boxer had to remember herself. Blake had been distressed when she left the room and Yang was worried about her. She hoped Blake and Weiss would come back soon. She needed to know what was going on.
As if on cue the door opened. Yang swirled around towards it, an apology already on her lips, but it was only Weiss. The seconds the blonde needed to find something else to say were enough for the heiress to speak first.
"She's fine, go talk to her."
She didn't have to say it twice. With only a smile and a small thank you towards Weiss, Yang was already out of the door. She let it fall close behind her as her eyes zeroed in on Blake. The girl was standing there, looking at the floor with her ears flat on her head and one arm slung across her stomach to holding the other. She was nervous.
"Blake?" Yang called her name softly, as if she would run again if she spoke too loud. The call got the faunus to look at her and the words rushed out before Yang could stop herself.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that. I saw how uncomfortable you were and I still went and kissed you. I'm sorry." She was sincere about it, as good as it had felt Yang would take it back just to get the sad look out of Blake's eyes, to make her smile again.
"You don't have to apologize. I agreed, didn't I? It's my fault for overreacting like that. I'm sorry."
Relieve flooded the blonde and she leaned against the wall and smiled at the ravenette. "I'm just glad that everything is alright between us."
"Yeah, I'm too." Blake gave her a small smile of her own in return. Yang was surprised how good it felt to see it. But another thought came back to her.
"But I can't believe you never told me."
For a short moment she thought she saw panic in Blake's eyes but it vanished before Yang could be sure.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh, come on. You can't tell me that that was your first, not with the way you kissed me." And the boxer had to push the phantom sensation out of her mind. "So who was it with? Was it Sun?"
A blush rose to Blake's cheeks before she looked away and Yang couldn't help but find the display endearing.
"It was my first." The faunus admitted softly.
"No way!"
Blake nodded again to confirm that it was indeed true and Yang kept looking at her for a moment before giving her a wide smile.
"Come on, let's get back in there. Maybe we can talk Nora into doing something else."
The rest of the party went without a hitch but Yang suspected that Blake was still keeping a little more distance towards her than normal. The suspicion got confirmed over the next few weeks.
Blake was avoiding her, Yang was sure of that. The ravenette didn't come over often anymore and she 'wasn't home' when Yang went to her house. If Yang wanted to meet up after school Blake excused herself to go to the library and study and when Yang asked to study together she often refused. When they all sat together at lunch Blake squeezed in between their other friends, not between one of the couples because that would be just awkward, and not on the free place next to Yang.
It hurt more than the blonde would've ever have thought. They had been best friends since their first year in elementary school and nearly inseparable since. Yes, there had been the time after Summer's dead where Yang had kept her distance but Blake had still always been there, ready to step in and be there for her is she needed her. They hadn't really spoken but Blake had still been present. Now the faunus felt further away than ever and Yang was surprised how lonely she felt despite being surrounded by friends.
Yang realized just how much she needed Blake in her life and how painful it was without her.
And to make things worse the memory of the kiss accomplished her the whole time. When ever she looked at Blake's lips she could feel them on hers, the ghost sensation of her tongue playing with Yang's. It even followed her in her dreams. Every boy she had been interested in was shot down because it wasn't what she had hoped for but then the unexpected kiss with Blake had been that and more. It had felt right and like it should've happened with her. The blonde couldn't stop herself from wanting more, to kiss Blake again but the faunus wouldn't even sit next to her anymore. The boxer couldn't leave things like that. She needed to do something against it. She started to actively search Blake out more than normal. She used every chance she got and before she know it she found herself even more drawn to the cat faunus.
Yang caught herself starring at Blake nearly constantly and so did the ravenette, much to the blonde's embarrassment. But the worst part was how strange everything started to feel. Every touch made her skin tingle or shot electricity through her body. Her heart rate spiked up from just seeing one of Blake's small smiles. Nothing made her happier than being with her.
She had no idea what was going on and needed help. Normally she would go to her best friend for it but that wasn't an option right now. But luckily for Yang her friends also noticed her distress. Her sister and Weiss confronted her one day.
Yang had road Bumblebee, her beloved motorcycle she finished the day after her birthday, home after training and was greeted with a strange sight after entering the living room. Ruby and Weiss sat on the couch with stern expressions. Like parents waiting for their child after it did something bad. Something was going on here.
"Yang, we need to talk." Ruby stated. Could she have said something more cliché?
"What's going on?" Yang was quite suspicious about the situation.
"That's what we would like to know." Weiss answered.
"You've been acting strange lately." The youngest added.
Yang opened her mouth to answer but the white haired girl beat her to it. "And don't you even try lying to us."
Not that a statement like that would usually stop her from doing just that if she actually wanted to but Yang wanted to talk to someone about her feelings. Now she got the perfect chance for it.
The boxer sighed and plumped down on the seat next to her sister.
"It's about Blake. I…" She stopped, thinking her next words over. "Recently I started feeling strange about her. Being with her makes me feel… warmer somehow and it's like part of me is missing when she's not with me. Worst of all, I can't get her and that stupid kiss out of my head anymore. What's going on with me?"
The other two noticed the hint of frustration in her voice and shared a knowing look.
"I never meet a more oblivious idiot than you." Weiss stated calmly. She ignored Yang's glare.
Ruby giggled. "Weiss has a point. You're obviously crushing on Blake."
Yang was shocked. Her crushing on Blake? That wasn't possible. Blake was her best friend and noting more. Yang felt comfortable around her, more so than with her other friends but that was what made the faunus her best friend, was it not? It also was the reason for the warm feeling Yang got around her. Yes, the ravenette was good looking, beautiful actually, and being alone with her recently made Yang's heart race but that doesn't have to mean anything. Even thought all the boys she dated before never managed that. And they never made Yang want to be close to them like Blake did. She also never wanted to kiss them like she wanted with Blake since her birthday. Even thought most of them had some traits that resembled the faunus.
Only than did Yang realize that what had interested her in them was what made them similar to her best friend.
Okay, maybe she was crushing on Blake. Who was she kidding? She had absolutely fallen for the black haired beauty. And probably even long before the whole thing with the kiss.
Yang buried her face in her hands and groaned. "Oh gosh, I totally am."
"Glad you finally realized." The snipping comment earned Weiss an other glare from the blonde.
But something more important needed Yang's attention now. "What should I do now? There is no way she feels the same for me. I-"
The heiress cut her off with a frustrated sight. "Just how oblivious can a person be?! Everyone with eyes can see how much Blake likes you. You're the only one who doesn't."
"I can't believe this." Yang muttered to herself but Ruby still commented on it.
"Well, Weiss is right about that. For some time we even thought you were just acting like you didn't notice to not hurt her feeling. But then we realized you really never did."
Yang groaned again. Even her little sister, who was often socially awkward, noticed but not the boxer, who was normally good at reading others feelings? That was kind of embarrassing.
"If you don't want to believe us, how about hearing it from Blake herself?" Weiss asked and before Yang could argue that she can't just ask the faunus if it's true, the heiress took out her scroll and played a recording.
"It had already been before then. I… I think it started when I first met her." That was clearly Blake's voice. "Even back then she was the sunny girl she's now. Her smile has always been just as infectious."
The blonde stared in shock at the device. She couldn't remember the last time she heard so much adoration in the cat faunus' voice, if ever.
"I'd always preferred to spend my time alone since I was little, but with her had it been different. Just having her around filled me with warmth I never felt before. Every time she was there I felt more confident and as if everything would be okay. Just seeing her brightened my day. She made me feel safe."
Yang's heart clenched. Who was Blake talking about? The ravenette had never praised someone so much. Did she really mean Yang?
She didn't have to wait for an answer. "The moment Yang took me in her arms everything the bullies did to me was forgotten and nothing bad could happen to me. She was my personal sun that made all the clouds disappear. It was like she was all I ever needed. And that hasn't changed since."
Hearing this was too good to be true. But is was Blake's voice. Yang's heart was beating way too strongly in her chest and she didn't even notice how wide she was smiling just hearing those words. She always felt like she had never done enough for Blake back when she still got bullied for being a faunus. But hearing that, hearing how much better Yang had made things for her made her really happy.
"It was just in middle school that I realized that just having my sun there wasn't enough anymore. I wanted to make her happy, to support her every way I could. I wanted to be there for her too." Even thought the voice sounded more pensive, being called 'my sun' by Blake made Yang giddy. She never thought she'd be so happy about some stupid endearment.
"I noticed how much I wanted to keep her for myself, not to share her with all those boys that suddenly came to her every chance they got."
That sounded kinda possessive. Yang was not sure how to think about it. But she didn't had much time to mull it over because the next word made her face heat up at the implication that came with them.
"I wanted to be closer to Yang, both, mentally and physically. I wanted more from her warmth. The older I became the worse it got. I didn't want to just be around my sun anymore, I wanted to touch her, to let her burn and consume me.
When those boys swarmed her I wanted to shove them away from her, to take her hand and pull her to me. I wanted to kiss her and let everybody know that she was mine and they couldn't have her. But I just stood by and watched instead."
Blake really sounded possessive now. And had any of Yang's former dates said something like that, she would've probably punched him for it. Hearing it from Blake wasn't that bad. Being Blake's didn't sound bad at all when she thought about it. The boxer just wasn't sure if wanted to think about what it implied.
"Whenever she is close by, I just want to pull her closer, to snuggle up to her and hold her and many other things too. Every time she smiles at me, I feel like I'm on cloud nine but at the same time she is my anchor, the one who grounds me to this world. Just today, when she gave me that unbelievable wide smile I felt like I could barely breathe."
Hearing things like that made it hard to breath for Yang. Her face and ears were burning.
A sighed was heard from the recording. "Weiss, I don't just have a cr-" The rest was cut short as on of Weiss' fingers tipped on her scroll and stopped it from playing.
"I think that's enough. You should rather hear that from Blake personally instead. It's already bad enough that I showed you all that, but I don't think and oblivious oaf like you would get it otherwise."
Normally Yang would give a comeback at getting called something like that from Weiss but right now her heart and thoughts were racing from all the things she had just listened to and what the heiress didn't allow her to hear. What had she been about to say? Something told Yang that it was important and that she really, really wanted to hear it.
The other two seemed to understand that she needed some time process everything because it took a while before Ruby said something. "What are you going to do?"
It took some time for Yang to response. "I'm going to confess to Blake."
The squeal that followed got a chuckle out of Yang and she ruffled Ruby's hair affectionately. The younger sister pulled away with a pout but smiled again soon after.
Even though the boxer just said that, she started to feel nervous just at the thought of confessing her newfound feelings. What was she going to say? When should she say it? Should she choose a special setting?
With all these thoughts and more in her head she didn't get a good nights rest that day. And also not the days after.
The nervousness only got worse when Blake invited her over the following Friday. Too caught up in her own head, Yang didn't say anything on their way to the Belladonna' house.
The blonde sat down on the couch as she still debated on how to start what she wanted to say but it was the faunus that broke the silence first.
"Do you want to watch a movie?" She asked.
For a moment Yang thought about saying yes, so she could buy some time to come up with the right words for what she had to say but another idea came to hear. Even thought Blake was the reason for her current nervousness, she was also the person that could calm her down like nobody else. Just listening to her voice was soothing to the boxer. Thats why she proposed something else. "Not really. Can you read to me?" It was kinda embarrassing to ask thought.
Seeing Blake just stare back at her blankly made Yang rethink if it was a good idea.
"You don't want to?" Yang asked.
"No, I don't mind. Sorry, it's just… We haven't done that in years. Where did that come from?"
The boxer didn't want to admit that it helped her calm down because that would bring up the question why she even needed to. While trying to sound nonchalant she started rambling a bit. "Not sure. Like you said, we haven't done that in some time and I don't know, I just like the sound of your voice."
Admitting the last part was a bit embarrassing and she blushed a little. It was still absolutely worth it when she saw Blake's small smile.
"Anything in particular you want to hear?" Blake asked.
"Not really, I'm fine with anything." Yang answered while shaking her head.
"If you say so." With those words the faunus went to her room to get a book.
The blonde was glad she found a way to buy herself more time to come up with a good confessing, her chances of it being small after she couldn't do it the last days, and got to listen to Blake's soothing voice to boot.
Said girl came back, book in hand, and sat down next to Yang before starting to read.
The book started even interesting and any other day Yang would've listen carefully but right now she had other things going on in her mind. Like the fact that she really wanted to be closer to Blake.
It wasn't unusual for the blonde to sit close enough that they touched so why shouldn't she do it now? It took another moment for Yang to actually scout closer and rest her head on Blake's shoulder.
She had been right. It was relaxing to just lean against the faunus and listen to her voice. So relaxing in fact that the last few nights of barely sleeping started to catch up with her. Before she know it her eyes closed and she drifted off.
It was Blake softly calling her name that woke Yang from her slumber. The blonde looked up to her and was greeted by the faunus' smiling face. How come Yang never noticed how easy it was to get lost in those striking amber eyes?
"Long day?" Blake's soft voice brought her out of her trance and the boxer took a few seconds before she raised her had of the ravenetts shoulder. As much as she enjoyed being close to her, this wasn't really a comfortable position to stay in for long and her neck started to hurt.
It took Yang another moment to realize she still hadn't said anything yet.
"Sorry, but listening to you read is just so relaxing."
"It's okay. I actually wanted to talk to you." Blake answered while she nervously played with her fingers. Why was Blake nervous? Seeing her like that made Yang feel nervous too.
Yang straightened her back and all her sleepiness from a moment ago was forgotten.
"About what?" She asked.
"You've been acting… different lately."
Yang looked away. "I don't know what you mean." It didn't come out as convincing as she wanted. She had a good idea what Blake meant and thinking of explaining her feeling made the blonde nervous.
"You know exactly what I mean. The last weeks I often caught you staring at me. You always made sure to sit next to me and you've been keeping closer to me than usual." There was a short pause. "I mean it seemed like– and if I'm wrong, forget I said anything but… for me it looked like…" Blake took a deep breath. "You acted like you were interested… in me."
The last two words were only whispered but Yang heard them. Panic made her throat dry, here eyes widen and her mouth hang open. She still noticed how cute Blake had looked while being embarrassed of what she was saying.
But Yang wasn't the only one that started to panic. It became clear when the ravenette rushed the next words out. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything. Of course you're not. That was a stupid thing to ask. I was more distanced from you and that must've been the reason you wanted to spend more time with me. I-"
Yang saw how Blake searched for a way out, to leave this situation behind, quite literally as her eyes scanned the room. Just as her body tensed to jump off the couch did Yang reach out and grabbed her wrist.
After she gathered her courage she finally spoke in a whispering voice, still looking at Blake's arm she was holding. "What if I am?"
"What?"
Yang looked up and saw the confused expression on the faunus' face. She made herself clear. "What if I'm interested in you?"
All the determination was about to leave her and panic started to sink back in when tears gathering in amber eyes and heard how strained Blake sounded.
"Please, don't joke about it! Please! You have no idea what that would do to me."
"Maybe I do." Not getting a response from her Yang continued. "After the kiss I couldn't get it out of my head. I kept thinking about it, about you, and how right it had felt. The others noticed that something was bothering me, and Ruby and Weiss asked about it. After I told them what it was they called me an oblivious idiot." She couldn't stop the found smile from forming. They told me I should just tell you about it. I feared how you would react. Then Weiss showed me a recording. It was you talking about me." Her smile changed to something more affectionate as she let go of Blake's wrist in favour for her hand. She was filled with warmth at the memory from the recording."You called me your sun."
Noticing the faunus started to panic again Yang quickly added. "Sadly she cut it off before I could hear all of it. She said I should hear it from you."
Blake wiped the tears from her eyes as she composed herself. There was still a light tremor in her voice. "I can't believe Weiss recorded it and showed it to you. That means you know how I feel, but what about you? How do you feel?"
Feeling her hand getting squeezed she did the same to reassure her as she looked at Blake with all the endearment she had for the ravenette.
"Blake, you've always been there since we met. You held me when I was at my lowest and made even the best days, well, better. Even after I pushed you away you were always there, waiting for me to come back." Yang chuckled. "Now that I know about it I feel like a god damn idiot for not noticing it before. The way you looked at me, the smiles you only directed at me, I should've seen it. And I should've seen how much I need you at my side, Blake. The last weeks you kept your distance were hard. Every time I wanted to reach out to you it felt like you would slip through my fingers. I noticed just what I was missing without you right beside me." She raised her hand and cupped Blake's cheek. "I don't know if what I feel for you is love but I know that I need you by my side. So if you want we could try. Dating, I mean."
Yang was sure the tears in Blake's eyes where of joy this time as she was pulled into a tight hug. If her heart wasn't already racing it sure would've start now.
"Yes, I want to. I'm so happy right now. Yes, absolutely."
The smile on the faunus' face after they pulled away from each other was one of those rare wide smiles Yang had only seen directed at her. It made her feel special as she drowned again in bright amber.
Yang didn't know how long they stayed like that but after some time she broke the silence. "There's something I wanted to do since my birthday."
"And what would that be?" The ravenette asked in the same emotion heavy whisper.
The boxer let her eyes wander to Blake's lips before closing the distance to finally get another kiss.
I couldn't help but image Blake's father coming home to find her and Yang making out in the living room and instead of the stupid cliche about getting angry and shouting something like "What are you doing to my daughter?!" he's like: "Oh finally! I thought I you'd never realize how much Blake was crushing on you." And just going past them to start dinner or something.
Kali would be overjoyed to find them like that.
Should they start taking of too much clothes, they would get told to take it into Blake's room. Would still be awkward because of Kali's good hearing.
