A/N: Just a short something that I needed to get off my chest after seeing The Hidden World.

Hiccup was always prone to mistakes. He was constantly screwing up, causing him to become the biggest embarrassment to both his father and his tribe. He had made so many mistakes in his life that they all began to blur together – chased after by a dragon in this raid, set a few buildings on fire in that raid, tried a new invention that went askew – but the worst mistake he ever made was one that would leave a permanent scar on his soul for the rest of his life.

He shot down a Night Fury.

No. Nope that's not it. That's just the first mistake.

First he shot down the Night Fury. Then when he found the Night Fury in the woods, instead of killing it, he cut the ropes free.

But no. No that's just the second mistake.

After he cut the ropes free, he went back and befriended the dragon.

Okay third mistake, now we're getting somewhere. But that's not the worst part.

See, when he befriended that dragon, he helped him fly by riding on his back, and he discovered the incredible freedom and power and life of the skies. He decided to keep the dragon, so that he could share the world with him. Share his life with him.

The fourth mistake. And that is where the true problem lies.

The dragon was his best friend, his only friend – that dragon was his entire world. And when he looked into the dragon's eyes, the town screw-up screwed up in a way that he never had before.

He gave his heart away. And his heart could never let go.

That was the worst mistake of his entire life.

And what's more, if he were given the opportunity to do it all again, he wouldn't change a single thing.
