"Stay back, mother fuckers! Don't come near me!"

Ellie glared fiercely upon seeing her attackers pursue her. They clearly weren't going to give up on chasing her until she was finally dead. She stayed concealed from view in her hiding place, quickly arming herself with her rifle.

"I warned you assholes!"

The youngster revealed herself from her hiding place, pointing her rifle towards her assailants. As soon as they spotted her, the men quickly pulled out their pistols. Loud gunshots filled the air - as the youth fired bullet after bullet at every one of her attackers. As they all dropped dead, the youth glanced up at the numbers on her top left.

"Fuck yeah! New high score!"

Ellie grinned triumphantly to herself as she pushed forward on her joystick, causing the avatar she was controlling to walk on ahead. She turned away from the television in front of her to face the man who had bought her the new device plugged up to it.

"I can't believe I'm playing a video game at last!"

"Is it as good as you expected?" Joel asked, a warm smile on his face directed towards the young girl.

"Even better! I can't pull myself away from this! I only started this game three hours ago and already I'm on level-"

Ellie was cut off as she suddenly heard more gun shots coming from the television. She turned back to the screen to see in horror that her avatar was under attack by more gunmen and the health bar below her score count was quickly draining.

"No, no, no!" She yelled, her pounding rapidly on the control's 'Fire' button to take out her enemies. "You ain't beating me that easily, you bunch of chicken shits-"

Too late, the health bar went completely empty, causing the avatar to fall to its knees and lie face down on the ground. Ellie watched with shocked eyes as two words written in large, blood red capital letters filled the whole screen.

GAME OVER

"Fuck you!" Ellie hissed venomously at the words - then used all her rage to hurl the joystick as hard as she could, smashing it through the television screen.

"ELLIE!" Joel cried, his face white with shock at what his surrogate daughter just did. "What have you done to my TV?!"

"Pfft! No worries!" Ellie turned away from the broken television to smile up at her father figure, failing to grasp why he was looking so aghast. "I'll beat those fuckers next time, right?"

Joel closed his gaping jaw, a frown crossing his face which he sent to the teenage girl who had just destroyed his expensive television.

"You sure will..." he muttered gruffly, "...as soon as you cough up some dough to buy a replacement TV, young lady!"

Ellie's smile disappeared. Her freckled face went white as realisation dawned on her. Her bewildered green eyes fell back onto the television she'd hurled her joystick through. Sparks flickered from the electronics and jumped through the charred glass of the smashed screen. The youth had no doubt that a replacement would cost her lots of money, not to mention until she managed to purchase one, she could no longer play her video games.

"Oh fuck!" Ellie exclaimed angrily.

The end.
