Izuku's quirk never came and it probably never will, Dr. Tsubasa said. It was something he had to accept at the fragile age of four. His mother and him both heard the doctor with their own ears, Izuku was quirkless. Had an extra toe joint and everything. It was a cruel joke played on him by the world.
His mother's tears fell before his did. He didn't believe the doctor, he couldn't, the day was going perfectly. Everyone has been so nice to him, a man even gave him ice cream for free. Even Kacchan didn't get free ice cream. But that didn't matter anymore, did it? He was quirkless, He will never be able to save people with a smile like All Might.
They went back home and Izuku still hasn't shed one tear. His mind was scrambled everywhere. What is he going to do? Can he still become a hero without anything aiding him? Everyone he knew had a quirk. Every Hero he knew had a quirk, But he doesn't.
Can he still be a hero?
His mother said sorry,
And a part of Izuku's heart broke.
Kacchan was weird, Izuku decided when he turned six. He was still awesome and Izuku thinks he will be a great hero, But sometimes Izuku didn't understand him. Kacchan always made fun of him and used his quirk on him and called him 'Deku', but sometimes he hits other bullies for him (Even if he hits him afterwards "You can't even stand up to yourself? Stupid Deku!") even though he doesn't do that to anyone and often bullies other kids besides Izuku too.
But then he offers Izuku some of his lunch when Izuku forgets his, walks him to and from school everyday, Izuku realizes with a jolt that Kacchan is always doing nice things to him even if he doesn't try to act better and even bullies him.
Izuku also noticed that Kacchan prevented hi-their friends from calling Izuku 'Deku' and from insulting him at all, let alone hitting him. Izuku smiled, Maybe Kacchan just didn't know how to act nice, but he was obviously trying to be nice to Izuku. Oh, Maybe he could help with that? Yeah, Izuku nodded mentally, He will thank Kacchan for all the nice things he does and tell him if he did something rude, but not in front of their friends, because Kacchan wouldn't like that.
"Izuku? Please concentrate." The words hit his ears and he looked up at the nice English teacher, and smiled brightly. Nodding his head, He focused on his notebook to copy everything written on the whiteboard.
He didn't notice how the teacher smiled warmly and her eyes glazed slightly when she ruffled his hair with a tint of pink on her cheeks.
He remembers when Kacchan mocked him about his Hero Notebook. He was nine when he decided that maybe he shouldn't take it with him to school anymore if it angers Kacchan that much. He stumbled upon a villain fight on his walk to school (Kacchan went ahead of him that day since he slept in), He saw a new Pro Hero that day! Their second fight after they debuted! He really wanted to write about their quirk.. But he didn't have his notebook.
He walked sullenly to school, dreading the fact that he might forget everything he noted in his head by the time he went back home. Maybe, he could watch the fight on TV and remember everything he saw? No, he was bound to forget something, he didn't have a photographic memory, There is no-
"DEKU, Where the fuck have you been?" Kacchan's roar brought him back to the land of living.
"Huh?" Came his intelligent reply as the words processed in his mind. "Oh! Sorry, Kacchan, there was a villain fight. And I saw a new Pro Hero , He was so cool and-"
"Damnit Deku! How do you even manage to be near every villain fight in town? They aren't even that many!" Kacchan glared at him and Izuku hunched slightly and stared at the ground. "Didn't I tell you to throw your fucking notebook away? It is going to get you killed!"
Izuku felt a warm feeling, Kacchan obviously cared about him. "S-Sorry, Kacchan. I usually stay in the safe zone, I swear! Besides, I am leaving my notebook at home from now on, I know it makes you angry when you see me writing in it, so I-…" and there goes the muttering.
"Izuku." said person's eyes snapped to Kacchan to see the narrowed eyed look he was giving him. Oh no, did he say something offending? Kacchan doesn't hit him as much but if he did somethi-
" ENOUGH, YOU IDIOT!" Kacchan yelled but he surprisingly didn't hit him. Izuku looked at him worriedly. Was Kacchan sick?
"Look, Deku. Why do you still want to be a hero?"
"I - I don't - What do you mean, Kacchan?" The blond was frowning at him. But he shouldn't know? Izuku stopped proclaiming he was going to be a hero since he was five years old. He even named his notebooks 'Hero Notes' without any subtext so that mom and Kacchan won't worry anymore.
"Don't fucking bullshit with me, Deku! I know you still want to be a hero! Why do you still want to become one even though you don't have a fucking quirk, huh? Are you suicidal?" Kacchan sneered and Izuku was tempted to take a step back but he didn't. He knew Kacchan hated cowards so he won't be one.
"N-No, Kacchan. I just.. I really just want to help people." Izuku put a hand on his heart. He didn't understand himself most of the time. But becoming a hero is the only thing he has. He needs to be a hero.
"You can help people by doing other things, you know. Being a policeman or a firefighter." Kacchan's pensive voice broke Izuku from his thoughts. Kacchan was really thinking about this? He didn't just yell at him. He really was taking this seriously.
"It is not the same. I want to be like All Might, Kacchan. Someone the people look at for hope. I.. I want to save everyone with a smile! So that people look at me and know they are safe! I don't want to stand aside and wait for a hero to come! I can't do that!"
Kacchan's eyes widened slightly. Izuku was panting, Why did he feel so weak? He needs to be a hero, he can't afford to be weak. He should really start taking martial arts class or something if only to up his stamina. Plus, knowing martial arts will probably be very beneficial when he becomes a hero, he could be like all the heroes who fight without their quirks!
"Fine." Huh? Izuku guessed it showed on his face that he wasn't following. "I said Fine, You Idiot! You want to become a hero so much? Then go ahead, I won't stop you. But know this Deku." Izuku nodded hurriedly, he can't believe this is happening.
"I going to be the Number One Hero, if you are going to become a hero, then I fucking expect you to be there with me." Izuku's eyes widened drastically. Did he.. Did he just say that? Kacchan wanted him to be his partner? Tears welled up in eyes and his mouth gaped.
"Tch, stop being a crybaby! Heroes don't cry so much, damnit!" Izuku wasn't really listening as a sob forced its way from his throat and he throw himself at Kacchan.
"Thank you! Thank you so much, Kacchan! I – I won't dissapoint you!" Izuku wrapped his arms around his childhood friend, cried shamelessly. "I will become the best hero there is!"
"BASTARD, I AM GOING TO BE THE NUMBER ONE HERO!" Even though, he yelled loud enough to deafen a lesser man, the blond wrapped his arms around Izuku and averted his gaze. Izuku thought his face became red from anger.
But Izuku didn't really care. He had someone who believed in him.
Kacchan believed in him.
Another sob forced its way out of his mouth.
"Stop crying, idiot! The bell is going to to ring soon!" oh, he forgot about that. He slowly unwrapped his arms and beamed at Kacchan.
"Let's go then, Kacchan!" said blond rolled his eyes and huffed.
"You are the one who is making us late with your crying! If it puts a mark on my file, I will Fucking kill you!" Izuku was still beaming and couldn't even be bothered by the screaming.
"Tch, and next time get your stupid notebook with you, Deku. I want to add some things." Izuku's smile got even bigger. Kacchan was really great. He will make him proud.
"okay, Kacchan." Izuku felt warm. He didn't care they were going to be late to class. He didn't even realise that Kacchan took his hand and started drag him towards the classroom.
Kacchan believed in him!
The thought was a catalyst to even more tears.
"STOP CRYING, DAMNIT!"
Izuku signed up for martial arts classes after that, Kacchan signed up as well but he signed up for different classes ("so we could teach each other different fighting styles, Idiot")
In the end each of them only took two classes each, Izuku took up Taekwondo and Karate, while Kacchan took up Kung fu and boxing.
Each one of them focused on entirely different things. Kacchan with his fists as that's where his explosions are the strongest. ("although we did find out that he could make explosions from his feet, as well. It was an enligh-" "SHUT UP, DEKU") But Izuku still taught him all of the kicks he knew.
And Izuku stuck with his feet, because to put it bluntly, he had no muscles whatsoever on his arms – that was quickly fixed by the training Kacchan put him in, but years of running around to villain fights made sure his legs were much stronger – and he liked the fighting style.
Years passed and the duo became inseparable. Kacchan realised that Deku didn't really pull him down when he saw how ridiculously overpowered he was against the idiots that were their classmates and stuck to Izuku's side like glue.
Izuku however, finally faced his mom and told her that he wanted to become a hero and that Kacchan was going to help him. It was a confrontation filled with many tears and hugs but he did it. And he was glad, too. As his mother, after getting over the fact that her baby wanted to fight bad guys and put himself in danger (and interrogating Katsuki about Izuku and why they were doing this.) She became a wonderful support and helped him sign up for classes, made a healthy diet for him as well as wrapping up his injuries whenever he sparred with Kacchan.
Izuku felt that life was finally looking up. He still had bullies and only two people believed in him, but that was more than enough for him.

Midoriya Inko was a wonderful mother, that is what everyone told her. But she didn't feel like a wonderful mother. Not when she broke her son's dreams like that. Not when he kept hiding his bruises and tears.
She could see how Izuku was afraid to talk to her. How he always hesitated when he was talking about his favourite heroes and the fight he saw today (and wasn't that a terrifying thought? Her baby was at every fight she heard of, and sometimes one's she didn't hear of!), could see how he hid his notebooks sometimes without even realising.
Her heart broke everytime she saw her son because she was reminded once again that she failed him, and broke their trust indefinitely.
But then something changed, her son came back home and his smiles became much more frequent. He didn't hide as much from her. And when he walked into the kitchen nervously asking if he could talk with her, she was overjoyed.
And then her son told her that he wanted to become a hero. She already knew that, but she didn't want to acknowledge it just yet. He told her that Kacchan was helping him, and that they wanted to take martial arts classes ( of course he was going to work in the summer to pay for them, as he was quick to add.) but Inko's mind was already made up.
She was going to help her son. She was going to support him because she couldn't before and that was her biggest regret.
But that doesn't mean she will marsh in blindly, she was a mother. Her son's health is her outmost priority.
So she asked Izuku what they will be doing exactly, called Mitsuki and told her about their sons' recent endeavors, and asked Katsuki to come over.
And then proceeded to grill Mitsuki's son about anything that happened to her son and what he wanted to achieve from this.
Turns out, the blond was trying to help her son and for that, she was thankful for his influence (even if he was a bit too vulgar for her liking).
Mind made up, she went with Izuku to different institutions that taught different kinds of martial arts and signed them up for it. She even decided to go to the gym again and got a job, if only to make use of her absurdly large free time now that her son was busy.
So she applied to work in a nearby law office as an assistant, she hadn't worked since she married Hisashi but maybe she should have taken the hint when he didn't come back.
Work did wonders for her, she wasn't as stressed about her son, and she stopped the terrible habit that was stress-eating, inko believed she became a better mother for her son and gave him her support every step of the way.
And she could see the results, Izuku walked more straight, looked people in the eye instead of at their feet, didn't hunch over himself like he was trying to hide, put even more effort into his studies to rival Katsuki (not that his grades weren't already amazing but she could see the determination shining from his eyes) and his smiles were blinding.
She was so so proud of her baby, but she also worried.
Throughout Middle school, her son was almost kidnapped seven times! and strangers stopped to stare at her boy like he was an angel (she wholeheartedly agreed but that didn't stop her from wondering how they even met her son.
They didn't.)
And some weren't so innocent in their stares. Some stared at her son with feelings that described terrible intentions. He was just barely a teenager. She hadn't thought that the world had so many terrible people.
So she became a bit more strict, because her innocent, amazing son didn't even realise how people looked at him (and she was so thankful for Katsuki, when she realised that the blond's sneers and insults were actually protecting her son.)
She didn't allow him to go to school on his own anymore, either he was with Mitsuki's son or she drove him to school. She refused to let him go out after 8 pm. Call her a controlling mother but she will not let anyone hurt her son.
Katsuki, the godsend, thankfully understood why she asked him to go with her son almost everywhere, the boy was much smarter than she gave him credit for and he saved her son from his almost-kidnappers countless of times. (not that her son was helpless, not anymore.)
Izuku didn't bother arguing with her, he was much happier these days with anything she set him up for and the thought brought a warm feeling to her chest and tears to her eyes.
And so when her son came to her with the news that he was applying to Yuuei with Katsuki, she hugged him, kissed his forehead and asked him if he wanted her to help him revise for the exams.
And if they both cried until their eyes were red and puffy, neither of them mentioned it.
She just hoped Yuuei will be able to protect her son.

Thank you for reading.
I hope you enjoyed this, if there is any mistakes, please point them out, so I can correct them.
Also, Izuku does have the extra toe joint here. But let's just say the toe joint is just 98% accurate and that Izuku is that rare 2%
Also, I wanted to finish the whole story in one go like a really long one shot, but I decided meh, I wanted to take a break , and wanted to see if this is any good and deserves to be continued or not.
I loved writing Inko's point of view, it almost wrote itself. She is a wonderful character, and it pains me that in the anime Izuku always keeps her in the dark. Please review!Caio Caio
