On this day the sky was turned black, the sun was blocked out, there was no sign of human life anywhere all across the city of vale and remnant as a whole. Buildings laid to waste, streets torn apart, evil shadow creatures known as Grimm running rampant across the kingdom as a young lady wearing black jeans a red T-shirt along with her signature red hood and along with her scythe which she affectionately gave the nickname 'Crimson Rose' stood on top of the only remaining building that was standing.
This young lady was Ruby Rose, the legendary huntress, the last of her kind. Being 10 years removed from Beacon Academy, Ruby, now being 25 had spent her entire adult life fighting a hopeless war against an all powerful witch known as Salem. After spending many years watching her friends be killed by this witch Ruby found herself standing alone as the last chance at defeating her.
"This isn't over!" Cried Ruby as she pulled Crescent Rose off her back going to charge toward the witch who's only response was to cackle as her minion met Ruby halfway "Why are you with her! She's been using you all these years Cinder!" Ruby exclaimed as she was pushed back into the building shed jumped from, she was separated from her weapon as she found herself pinned back against the wall, being held by the witch she expected to feel an intense pain followed by being reunited with her family and friends in the next life.
After what felt like an eternity Ruby realized she did not feel any pain, as a matter of fact she wasn't feeling anything, she opened her eyes expecting Yang Weiss Blake and her parents, instead the only person she saw was the form of her old headmaster "O-Ospin?" she stammered out feeling shocked and a little bit freaked having not seen him in this form in over a decade.
It had been quite awhile since he had seen his old student, he had to smile upon seeing her war hardened composure "Miss Rose, it's been far too long, I've been watching you and I promise I'm not the only one." He explained as she gasped "The two brothers, the God of darkness and the God of light have been watching, their impressed with you. Your power and skill with the scythe, crescent rose, and your unyielding spirit they just saw you challenge Salem alone when you were faced with the end of the world. I convinced them to give you another chance, one like they gave me, they would like to send you back to a time of your choosing to have a second shot at defeating Salem. Now you have a choice, go on to the afterlife, meet your mother, see your father sister uncle and friends, or you can go back and take the place of your younger self and give it one more chance. When you are ready to make your decision, walk through this door and think about the time and place you desire to go. In case this is the last time I see you, it has been a pleasure being your headmaster and friend, good luck miss Rose." He explained before taking a bow he disappeared and a solid oak door appeared.
Ruby didn't have to think hard before agreeing to go back and help stop her. She nodded her head to Ospin before she gripped the doorknob and thought back to where she may be the most useful to her war against Salem, she threw the door open and was instantly blinded by the light, next thing she knew she was being shaken around "Come on Ruby! Wake up! Come on!" Came a very familiar voice 'Huh? Is this a dream? Yang?' she thought as she found herself unable to wake up.
It wasn't a dream, she really was in the past, ten years back to be exact.
"Come on Yang shaking her won't wake her up." Came the soft comforting voice of Weiss Schnee the young Heiress to the multibillion Schnee dust company "Weiss is right, Yang you heard the doctor she's going to be okay, just give her time." Blake Belladonna added as she stayed to Yang's other side giving her support.
Yang meanwhile was feeling frustrated angry and sad at the same time, she wanted to be there for her sister and partly blamed herself for letting this happen "I-It's my fault I should have protected her…" came Yang's low reply as the gasped
Weiss was the first to speak "Yang how could you think that? Remember she's our leader, it isn't your responsibility to shield her from attacks." Weiss reminded her as Blake chimed in "Weiss is right, besides there is no reason this should have happened, we've seen Ruby perform that move countless times to dodge attacks, and it doesn't explain why her aura failed her like that!" Blake explained as Yang seemed even more upset at being reminded that she could not protect her baby sister.
Earlier that day during combat class, they were tasked with a mock two on two battle against team JNPR, it was going extremely well, the pairs were Weiss and Ruby against Ren and Nora, the four were fighting well until Nora used her grenade launcher against Ruby who tries to dodge, but she seemed to freeze up mid move and instead took the full brunt of Nora's attack thus finding herself laid out in the bleachers, then to top things off her aura seemed to be shutting off and made her even more vulnerable. It was a perfect storm of terrible events that added up to be a devastating for young Yang Xiao-Long as she feared for her safety of her little sister.
After a minute of pondering their words she could agree with part of what Blake said, why had her aura shut down like that? "T-thanks Guys, but is it okay if I have some alone time? If she wakes I will call you." She promised as both nodded "I'll bring you both some coffee in case she wakes up." Weiss replied as Yang smiled "Don't forget Rubies unhealthy amount of sugar." She reminded the Heiress as they all three shared a laugh before they left.
Yang then threw her face back into her sisters sheets sobbing once more as a hand on her back followed by a soft almost guilty voice made her heart stop "Yang?" came Ruby's low voice as Yang jumped and gave her a giant hug.
