Description: Since he was born, Hiccup Haddock The Third was always a disappointment. Most of the vikings in the village either physically or verbally abuse him, and his oh so loving father did nothing to stop it. When Hiccup befriends a dragon after shooting down a Nightfury, he learns that the Nightfury's names is Shadowwing. What happens when the dragon he shot down isn't a Nightfury, but an incredibly powerful alteration of the Nightfury, a Darkfury. That along with the fact that Hiccup is hungry for vengeance…What path will Hiccup follow?

This is going to be an evil/vengeful Hiccup story.

Toothless in this story is going to be named Shadowwing, and is going to be unfairly OP. Hiccup is going to change his name to Silver and will also be very OP.

Chapter 1(The Broken Heir)

What the vikings of Berk don't realize, is that intellectual strength can be just as powerful as any physical strength.

As Hiccup walked towards Gobber's forge, he couldn't help but think that death would be better than the life he is living. Every day, Hiccup wakes up and has a small breakfast of scraps from his father's leftovers. Then he is sent to The Forge to work and toil on weapons and armor until the sun sets. When the sun finally does set, Hiccup is sent to clean up after the Berkians' dinner leftovers, and to eat what he can. When the dragons raid Berk, Hiccup is kept in Gobber's Forge, repairing broken weapons and filling buckets with water to help put out fires.

Tonight, Gobber was forced to leave The Forge, warning Hiccup to stay put. As minutes went by, Hiccup hears an explosion go off nearby, and glances out the window of The Forge. A Monstrous Nightmare is on fire on top of the armory. While all of the vikings near him are distracted, Hiccup grabs the Bola shooting invention and wheeled it out to a hill. He set up the machine and aimed it at the sky, saying, "Come on. Give me something to shoot at, give me something to shoot at."

All of a sudden, he hears the familiar whistle of a Nightfury and glances intently at the sky. A second later, he releases the trigger and the net whizzes through the sky. Hiccup sinks to his knees as he hears the dragon roar in anger and pain. What shocks Hiccup, is that as the dragon roars, Hiccup understands what the dragon said, "Damn it. That midget of a human actually hit me. Strange, I feel some sort of connection to that human."

Hiccups stands up, writing off hearing the dragon as a figment of his imagination. He yells, "I hit it? I hit it! Did anyone see that?" The Monstrous Nightmare appears behind him and Hiccup's joy falls away, being replaced by fear and slight annoyance, followed by acceptance of his surefire death, "Except for you." Hiccup mutters to the dragon. To his surprise, the dragon cocks its head at him.

"Did that human just speak Dragonese? How can I understand him? Wait, can it understand me?" The Monstrous Nightmare mutters to itself.

Hiccup collapses to his knees, "Yes, I can understand you. Can you understand me?"

The Nightmare looks at him, "Hmm. Strange. I could have sworn I heard that human speak Dragonese, but now it is back to speaking that gibberish humans call Norse."

"Can yo-" Hiccup stops himself, a thought coming to his mind. 'I wonder if I need to imagine I am a dragon. No, that can't be it, that is dumb. Hmm, what was I feeling when I spoke it last time? If I remember correctly, I was feeling fear and annoyance, and oh-, acceptance.'

"Can you understand me now?" Hiccup asks the dragon, still wondering if he is going crazy.

"Yes little human, I can understand you. What I want to know is how the Helheim you can speak Dragonese." The dragon responds.

Hiccup nods, "I would like to know that too. I know for a fact that I couldn't understand dragons until a few seconds ago when I shot down a Nightfury."

The Monstrous Nightmare winces, "You shot down Shadowwing?" The dragon asks nervously.

Hiccup flinches, knowing full well that if the Nightfury is still alive, it will stop at nothing to kill him. "Umm, I know we just met umm… What is your name?" Hiccup asks the dragon.

The dragon glances at him and nods, "My name is Hookfang, and yes, to answer your unasked question. I will give you a ride into the woods so you can try and stop Shadowwing from killing you. Good luck with that by the way." Hookfang responds.

Hiccup nods his thanks, "Thank you Hookfang. Also, thank you for not killing me. I know you probably don't care, but my name is Hiccup." Hiccup tells the dragon.

The dragon looks at him for a moment before bursting into what can only be described as dragon laughter, "I don't mind being your friend little Hiccup, but I feel that a name change might be appropriate. Us dragons are not big fans of weak names." Hookfang tells him through his laughter. "Also, I assume you care for some of the humans here, so I will try not to kill anyone tonight," Hookfang says.

Hiccup looks at the dragon in shock, before smirking. "No actually. All the humans here bully me and none of them truly care for me. You can kill whoever you want."

Hookfang looks surprised, "I like you already human, but there is something you must know," Hookfang says. "The dragons who are constantly invading this island are not doing so by choice. In fact, if we don't invade, we die." Hookfang says sadly.

Hiccup gasps, "What in the world can kill thousands of fire breathing dragons?" He asks nervously.

Hookfang sighs, "It is a massive dragon called the Green Death, although Green Death's are usually more docile so us dragons have nicknamed it the Red Death."

Hiccup gasps, "A Green Death? I thought they were all extinct! How bi-" As Hiccup goes to ask Hookfang another question, they are interrupted by a yell.

"HICCUP. RUN. I will kill this dragon for you, I mean, we all know you can't even lift an axe so I have to." Stoick says, running towards the dragon.

Hiccup turns back to Hookfang. "Can I meet you back here and have you fly me to where Shadowwing went down?" Hiccup asks the Nightmare.

The dragon responds, "Yes. Meet me here at what you humans call sunrise, but make sure you are not followed, and that no one will see me."

Hiccup gives a slight nod and says, "Thank you Hookfang. Now I suggest you fly away before my father succeeds in taking away the only friend I have ever had."

Hookfang's eyes widen at those words, and for the first time in his life, Hookfang feels pity for a human. As he lifts off the ground, he calls out to Hiccup, "I like you human. Remember what I said about a name change, and make absolutely certain you aren't followed tomorrow."

Stoick arrives, shock written all over his face. "Why the fuck didn't tha' dragon eat your scrawny ass?" He asks his son.

Hiccup, now used to the verbal abuse, responds, "I don't know, Chief. It didn't seem to want to."

"Hmm. That vicious beast doesn't have feelings, so it must have just decided you weren't worth its time to kill. Which of course you aren't. Ever since your mother was carried off by one of those devils carried off your mother, I have come to realize what a waste of space and resources you are. You are a disgrace to this tribe, and a disgrace to me. Go away, Hiccup. I will be done eating in around an hour, and you can come to eat my leftovers." Stoick says, without a hint of fatherly care in his voice, and walks off.

Hiccup feels a bubbling sense of hatred towards his father and the rest of his tribe. If he could even call them his tribe. Even though it is early in the morning, Hiccup walks back to his house and sneaks in his window. He climbs into bed, already thinking about his meeting with Hookfang in the morning. He can't help but feel terrified. He will have to face a pissed off Nightfury. And as the Book of Dragons says, 'The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself."

Hiccup lies in bed, knowing full well he won't be able to sleep for the few hours he has before sunrise. His meeting with Hookfang, and then the dragon Hookfang called Shadowwing.

A few hours later, Hiccup crawls out of bed. He climbs out of his window and heads to the hill where he first met Hookfang, looking over his shoulder constantly to make sure he wasn't followed. Once he arrives at the hill, Hiccup looks around. Hookfang is not yet here. Hiccup sits down on the grass to wait, and he doesn't have to wait long. Hookfang comes crawling up the hill, knowing that his powerful wingbeats would alert the rest of Berk to his presence. "Good morning Hookfang." Hiccup greets the dragon.

"Good morning. We should probably go ahead and go so that no one sees us. Climb on." Hookfang says.

Hiccup does as Hookfang says, and crawls up the spikes on his back. He reaches a juncture on the dragon's back and latches his hands on the spikes on the back of Hookfang's head. "Are you ready human?" Hookfang asks.

"Yes." Hiccup responds, trying to keep the nervousness he is feeling out of his voice.

Hookfang crawls back down the hill, and once they are at a safe distance away from the village, he beats his powerful wings and takes flight. Hiccup looks down, and watches as the ground beneath him slowly gets further and further away until the clouds obscure the ground completely. Hiccup looks around himself in awe. The clouds around him are glowing from the light of the sun that is just barely peaking over the horizon. Vikings have always thought that clouds are hard and that if you somehow reached one and touched it, it would be solid. But as Hiccup tentatively reaches up towards the clouds, his hand disappears in the cloud. When he removes his hand, it is coated in a thin layer of moisture.

A few minutes later, Hookfang begins his descent. As Hookfang nears the ground, Hiccup feels his fear growing, along with a regret he has never felt before. But the emotion that scares him the most is the emotion he is feeling the strongest. Acceptance. Acceptance for what is most likely to come when he meets the Nightfury.

Hookfang lands with a thud and says, "Well good luck human. I honestly hope you don't die. You are the first human to ever be able to speak Dragonese, and it would be a waste if you were killed before you knew the error of your beliefs."

Hiccup nods, "Thank you again Hookfang. If I die, know that you were actually the only friend I ever had, and I only knew you for a day." Hiccup says sadly.

Hookfang gives him a last look before beating his powerful wings and disappearing into the early morning sky. Hiccup turns around and heads in the direction he estimates the Nightfury went down. Hiccup slowly makes his way through the woods before coming to a hill. A tree is bent at an odd angle, and there is a trench in the ground where something big plowed into the dirt. Hiccup walks up the hill and cautiously peeks his head over the hill. The instant he sees a black dragon, he ducks his head back down, breathing hard.

After catching his breath, Hiccup slowly looks back over the hill and begins to make his way towards the downed dragon. The dragon is still bound by the cables from the bolas. He can't help but be in awe of the dragon in front of him. The dragon exudes an aura of power that is like nothing Hiccup has ever felt. Hiccup inches up to the dragon and feels a wave of disappointment in himself, 'I did this.' Hiccup thinks out loud.

Hiccup walks over to the dragon and begins cutting the cords binding the magnificent creature. The second his blade touches the first cable, the dragon's purple eyes snap open and its muscles tense. The second Hiccup cuts the last cord, the dragon leaps up and tackles Hiccup to the ground. The Nightfury stands over the human, eyes intensely scrutinizing the human under its claws. Yet again, the Nightfury feels a connection to the human, and he is surprised to see that instead of the usual terror, this human is looking at him in awe and…acceptance.

The Nightfury cocks its head. "Why is this human feeling acceptance?" The Nightfury asks out loud.

"It is because I have accepted my fate. Kill me if you wish. I have nothing to return to. Everyone hates me and I hate them. I want everyone on Berk to die." The human says, causing the Nightfury to start back in shock.

"Y-y-you speak Dragonese? How is that possible?" Shadowwing asks.

The human sighs, "I do not know. I only gained this ability yesterday. I found out I could talk to dragons right after I…" The human's eyes look away, "Right after I shot you down. When I felt your presence, I felt some sort of connection to you. I don't know why, but I did. I ignored it hoping to make my fucking father proud, but I realize that was a foolish goal. No matter what I do, I will never make him proud. So, Shadowwing. If you wish to kill me, go ahead and do it. As I said earlier, I have nothing to return to." The human finishes, and like Hookfang before him, Shadowwing feels pity for a human.

Shadowwing eases his claws off the human, "No human. I do not wish to kill you. I understand your reasons for shooting me down. What I wish to know is how you know my name." The dragon asks.

Hiccup sits up and says, "I met a Monstrous Nightmare yesterday. His name was Hookfang. He told me your name, and flew me here so I could find you and apologize for my actions."

The Nightfury pauses for a minute before responding. "I must say. Yesterday, I felt a connection to you as well. That is why I decided not to kill you."

Hiccup nods, "This is going to sound like a weird question, but I have always found dragons interesting, and humans literally know next to nothing about Nightfuries. How would you have killed me?" Hiccup asks, and Shadowwing hears genuine curiosity in his voice.

Shadowwing grins. "Well. I feel like I can trust you well enough to tell you this. You may know next to nothing about Nightfuries, but you know even less about my species. I am one of a kind and what other dragons call a Darkfury. I am the alpha species of Nightfury, and if I so wish, I could be the ruler of all dragons on this planet. When my parents had me and recognized my power, they tried unsuccessfully to kill me, knowing that nothing and no one would be able to stand in my way when I got older."

Hiccup's eyes widen, and he asks, "What makes you so powerful? Wouldn't you have a tough time beating a Bewilderbeast when one of them could mind control you?"

Shadowwing smirks, "I have powers beyond anything in this world. For one, I can shoot another form of projectile that I like to call a Shadowblast. It is basically a sphere of condensed dark energy. I can also use mind control that overrides that of any other known species of dragon. I have many other powers, with another big one being that I have the ability to control and manipulate lightning. For years I have hidden my true power, waiting for the right time to strike. And now I feel that time is nearly here. I will take over this world, and everyone and everything that opposes me…. will die." The Darkfury says, and the aura Hiccup felt earlier thickens until it literally drives Hiccup to his knees.

Hiccup grins at the dragon, "Again, I am sorry for shooting you down. I now realize that you and I share some sort of connection, and I believe this connection is what allows me to speak the language of dragons."

Shadowwing looks at him for a minute. "This is the first time I have ever had to ask a human for help. When you shot me down, the ropes tore a bit of my tail fin off, and I need that tail fin to fly. I request that you help me heal." The Darkfury says.

Hiccup smiles at the dragon, "Of course I will. For one, I feel a connection to you. And for another reason, I shot you down. I owe it to you to help heal what I did to you. I will ask one thing though. I wish to be by your side when you take over the world. It might be beneficial for you to have me be able to talk to humans and dragons. I could act as a kind of translator." Hiccup says.

Shadowwing looks thoughtful. "That is actually a good idea. Once I heal we will head to Dragon Island, and I will kill the Red Death. If you are going to help me, I am going to need to know your name." The dragon says.

Hiccup sighs, "My parents named me an embarrassing name. I would like to change it." Hiccup says.

The dragon looks curious, "What in the world did they name you?" The dragon asks.

Hiccup sighs. "They named me Hiccup."

Shadowwing pauses for a second before beginning to laugh. "I certainly see why you want to change your name. I can't have my future rider weak in any way." The Darkfury tells the human.

Hiccup gasps. "Future rider? What?" He asks in shock.

The dragon smirks again, "Hiccup. Change your name right now and I will make sure the dragons know you by your new name. I can also use another one of my powers to change your appearance to match your new name, along with increasing your physical strength." Shadowwing says.

Hiccup's eyes light up. "So I am going to be at your side as you take over this world, and you are going to give me some sort of dragon blessing?" He asks.

Shadowwing nods. "Yes. Pretty much. So what will your name be?" The Darkfury asks.

Hiccup falls silent, contemplating what he wants to be called. "How about Silver?" He asks.

Shadowwing nods his head, "A good name. Brace yourself. This blessing may hurt. I have never given it before so I have no idea how it will feel." The dragon states before his scales begin to glow with black energy. The energy begins to swirl around the dragon's head. Shadowwing directs it at the newly named Silver, and Silver lets out a scream of agony.

When the energy finally fades away, Silver's formerly twig-like limbs are now much better in proportion. He now has a very muscular form, but the most striking feature he gained is easily his eyes. His eyes now glow a powerful silver color and are slitted like a dragon's eyes.

The Darkfury sits back on the ground and looks at Silver, satisfied with how the blessing changed his future rider. His rider still doesn't look like much, but Darkfury magic now flows through the human's veins. "Thank you so much Shadowwing. I have never felt so strong. I will no longer be bullied. What is our next move?" Silver asks.

Shadowwing sighs, "I am sorry Silver, but for now, you will have to go back to Berk. I will begin gathering dragons into my army while you train your skills with weapons. One day, you will surpass every other human and be the best fighter on this planet. I am already the most powerful dragon on this planet, so once you become an unstoppable fighter, we will be the most powerful duo on this planet." The dragon says.

Silver sighs. "I will do whatever you see fit Shadowwing. I had a feeling I would have to go back to Berk. Although, won't everyone ask about my change in stature? Everyone on Berk recognizes me for how godsdamn skinny I was." Silver asks his new friend.

The Darkfury smirks. "Ah. Well you don't have to worry about that. My blessing also gave you some control over Darkfury magic. Before you go back to your village, I am going to teach you to hide your true appearance behind illusions such as this." As Shadowwing says that, he suddenly changes into a small Terrible Terror with green eyes instead of his usual purple eyes. "What you will need to remember is that while you will look the same physically, you will still have physical strength beyond any other human. Be careful with this gift, it may turn out to be a blessing and a curse. You are also invulnerable. No amount of weapons or physical violence could even scratch you. If the vikings notice you can't get hurt, they may decide that you are some sort of Helheim spawn." Once Shadowwing finishes speaking, Silver once again feels incredible gratitude towards the Darkfury.

Tears form in Silver's eyes, and he says, "Thank you so much Shadowwing. You have been far more generous then I feel you should have been. I shot you down and injured you, and yet all you are is nice to me."

The dragon smiles and responds, "You are welcome Silver. My tail wing will probably be better in around an hour. I heal incredibly quickly, and I didn't tell you this, but I let your bolas bolt hurt me. Like my blessing made you, I am invulnerable unless I decide an injury may benefit my agenda." Shadowwing pauses. "Alright. Down to business. I need to teach you how to cloak yourself in illusions. It is surprisingly easy. All you need to do is think about how you want to look. It might be easier if you look at your current reflection before attempting this. Come this way, I hear a stream flowing over there."

Silver follows after the dragon, curious as to what he looks like after getting blessed by Shadowwing.

When they arrive at the stream and Silver looks into the water, he gasps. He doesn't even recognize the person gazing back at him from the clear depths of water. He has never been one to get an ego (Not that he ever had anything to get an ego over) but he looks almost godly in looks. His skin is perfect, and his muscles are perfectly toned. His face is more smooth and it looks like a sculpture took his face and improved it. The things that capture his attention the most are his eyes. They glow a pure silver color but around the edges, a dark aura is present. Making him truly look godly.

Silver turns back to Shadowwing and says softly, "This is beyond anything I ever imagined. I am literally a god, well….other than having immortality."

At that Shadowwing grins, "Well….I must have forgotten to mention that once I choose my rider, both I and my rider become immortal." The Darkfury says.

As soon as Silver hears this, he falls to the ground in a faint. Shadowwing chuckles at his and glances back at his tail wing. It is fully healed. "As soon as Silver wakes back up, I will tell him the plan, and then I will head back to Dragon Island to use my mind control on the Red Death. I will have it take itself out, and then I won't have to actually fight it. After that, I can begin gaining true allies where I can, but I will use my mind control if necessary." Shadowwing thinks to himself.

A few minutes later, Silver sits up and laughs. "Shadowwing, I just had a really weird dream where you told me that when I became your future rider, we both became immortal. Isn't that crazy? Imagine if that was real though." Silver says, laughter and wistfulness threaded through his voice.

A wide smirk appears on Shadowwing's face. "Well…" He says slyly.

Silver's laughter fades away, being replaced by a shocked expression. "Wait…are we actually immortal?" He asks.

The Darkfury keeps grinning, "Yep. Both of us are going to be around for the rest of time. Even if someone or something could find a way to kill us with our invulnerability and power, we would just reappear."

Silver smiles, "This is going to sound weird, but can I hug you?" Silver asks.

Shadowwing nods. "Of course. We need to get used to physical contact. You are going to be my rider after all." The dragon says.

Silver approaches the dragon. When he gets near the dragon, he reaches out with one hand and turns his face away, eyes closed. Shadowwing roles his eyes, but still eases his muzzle until it gently touches Silver's outstretched palm. The second the two make physical contact, a wave of darkness rolls off of the pair and turns the midday sky to darkness. Both Silver and Shadowwing meet each other's eyes and what they see there cannot easily be put into words. An infinite amount of power sits waiting in the pair, ready to be put to use.

The connection the two felt before physical contact is nothing compared to the bond the two can sense they now share. Clouds form in the now dark sky, and a bolt of lightning arches down to strike the pair. Instead of the pair getting incinerated, the two absorb the power, and when the smoke from the lightning strike disappears, Shadowwing is cloaked in a shroud of darkness, while Silver is now cloaked in the nicest armor to exist on the planet. It is a black color, highlighted by silver streaks. Silver also has a mask that doesn't really have any physical form. It is made of shadows and completely covers his face. Along with that, he also has a silver cloak hanging on his back that is wreathed in dark energy. Like Shadowwing, he is cloaked in dark power.

After a few moments to get used to their newfound power, Shadowwing speaks. "Okay Silver. I must be getting back to Dragon Island to begin gathering my army. You should head back to Berk and convince your idiot father to let you learn how to fight. Unless you feel it is absolutely necessary, try to keep up the illusion of being weak for now. My blessing also gave you the intelligence of a Darkfury, which as I am sure vikings have to know Nightfuries are the most intelligent dragon, are five times as smart as a Nightfury."

Silver nods, "I will. Thank you again Shadowwing. I will miss you for whatever time we apart. I have no friends among the humans. Goodbye for now." Silver says.

Shadowing says. "I miss you too Silver. Now it is unfortunately time for you to put on the illusion to make you look like 'Hiccup.'" Shadowwing says the word 'Hiccup' like it is the worst thing in the world.

Silver nods sadly. He closes his eyes and concentrates on what he used to look like. A few seconds later, his glowing armor set of armor and his perfect body are gone, being replaced by his old visage. 'Hiccup' sighs. "Well, I guess I am back to being weak. Goodbye Shadowwing." As he says that, he reaches out one last time and touches Shadowwing's side. With that, the Darkfury beats his massive wings and flies off into the ever lightening sky. The darkness that appeared from their bond being replaced by the usual daylight. As 'Hiccup' watches, the daylight around the dragon bends, turning to darkness around him. 'Hiccup' glances down. "Hmm. This might be a problem." He thinks to himself.

The light around him is also being bent. The power of the aura around the once weak human, causing the plants on the floor of the forest to die. As Silver begins to walk, the leaves on the trees he walks past turn brown and fall to the ground, dead. "How the fuck do I stop everything around me from dying? That is definitely suspicious. I need to figure out how to turn off this aura." He thinks to himself.

After a few moments of concentration, his aura disappears from view, but he can still sense it around himself. He slowly begins walking and smiles when nothing around him starts to die. Silver begins making his way towards the village of Berk, no longer fearing dragons like he used to. In fact, he now likes dragons more than he likes any human he has met so far.

When he arrives back at his house, he crawls in the window to his room. Silver quietly changes clothes. He walks down the stairs into the main room of the house he shares with his father and is surprised to find a plate of food waiting at his spot for him. His surprise is remedied when he gets closer and notices that all the food on his plate is moldy.

"HICCUP! Where were you?" A voice asks. Silver spins around to see an angry Stoick the Vast glaring at him.
