Woken from a strange dream by the sunlight from his window, he was relieved to get up. Kaito tried to forget it as he got ready and walked with Aoko to school.
But the unease never faded nor had the dream.
It was about last night's heist, all the way up to confronting Akako. While they talked in the empty street Okiya walked past. A flash of light and smoke engulfed the area.
Then he was gone.
Kaito remembered the conversation which followed too. Time travel should be impossible.
It all felt more like a memory then a dream really.
His unease turned into dread as Akako entered the classroom and proceeded to drag him to the roof.
"Do you remember last night?"
"What about last night?"
"We need to talk about the heist, Kid."
Kaito agreed and wanted answers too. Unfortunately it couldn't be that simple. She just had to call him that.
"Jeez Akako, I'm not-"
"I'm not doing this when something this major happened! I need to know if you remember last night?"
Kaito huffed and continued what he had been saying. He wasn't in the mood for this either.
"I'm not Kid. But if I was what should I remember?"
"You called him Okiya Subaru."
It was real, It was real.
Time travel's real.
He restrained his freak out to hum in conformation as he asked.
"What happened to him?"
"I had said the spell sent him time traveling, and that I wasn't sure what it would effect."
Kaito nodded after she paused, it was the easiest way.
"It turned out Okiya went to the past, which is why we have 2 sets of memories. We're lucky, it looks like not much else was affected."
"Hold on! Are you telling me he went to the past and did nothing?"
He asked in disbelieve, how could someone ignore such an opportunity. Akako rolled her eyes.
"Of course not, just him being there would have changed things. It's just that we weren't affected by whatever he did. Nor will we be able to tell if there was."
Kaito had to think that through a few times. It didn't sound as reassuring then it was probably intended to be.
"What do you mean?"
"Our memories have been reset to whatever changed. Normally we wouldn't even remember that it had even happened."
"Normally?"
"The only reason we remember is because we were at the center of the formula that caused it. Though we probably will forget too in time."
"... Okay so we'll only remember what really happened? That makes sense. Not sure how I feel about forgetting though."
He said as he put his hands behind his head. Akako shrugged as she turned around to head back inside.
"It's how the world is fixing the paradoxes caused by time travel. You should be greatful that idiot didn't cause any world altering changes. He could have easily gotten us all killed."
They went back to the classroom more at ease. Kaito knew she wasn't joking, especially with how dangerous his heists are. He was glad nothing happened.
Though, he'll have to write it down so he wouldn't forget time travel was real.
A peircing wail echoed through out the room.
Akemi held her sister tight as tears streamed down both their faces. He smiled at the much anticipated reunion.
Glad they were together again Hiromitsu looked away to see their other guests.
Akai's releif was obvious in a way that he never saw before and Conan also looked happy.
Though he had to hold back a snicker as he could practically see the gears in the kid's head spin.
Though he couldn't stop the playful grin when Conan started to study him.
"Who are you?"
The question drew the attention off of the sisters and on to him. Akai hadn't looked terribly suprised to see him. He was happy to introduce himself, after all ...
"I'm Morofushi Hiromitsu, also known as Scotch. I had worked with Akai before being discovered."
... it had been too long.
Conan looked to Akai for confirmation. Akai nodded then continued to address him.
"I thought you died, besides some oddities there wasn't anything that pointed at the opposite at the scene. Does he know?"
Reminded of the trouble Rei likely put Akai through caused him to rub his head sheepishly. Which only caused him to narrow his eyes in suspicion.
"Yeah, I told him after you left. Sorry about that but you know how it is."
Akai hummed in understanding, though he seemed more at ease. Hiromitsu was glad he no longer felt guilt over his death, that was never his intention.
And he already got an ear full from Akemi about that a while ago.
Well, most of his ease probably, no, certainly comes from Akemi.
"How are you two alive?"
"Yeah how?
Conan voiced in the quiet that had followed, Ai also asked the same now attentive to her suroundings.
She had calmed down, though Akemi was still crouched low and had her arms wraped around her which Ai held on to.
Hiromitsu chukled as Akemi answered for them.
"We got help from a common friend."
The door to the kitchen opened before anyone could respond.
Heads turned as Subaru stepped into the room followed by the scent of curry. He froze with the rooms attention on him.
Amusement bubbled up in him at the confused expression they all wore and after sharing a glance with Akemi he knew she felt the same.
"Sorry, am I interrupting? Supper's ready ... what is it?"
He could see when it all clicked together as they stared, not even giving Subaru a break. It was Akai who stepped up to ask with his head tilted toward us.
"You helped them?"
"Yes? They've been staying here for some time now."
"Sis is alive! You saved her?"
Subaru gaze softened as he look to Ai and continued to answer more specifically.
"Yes, I'm familiar with death so I offered to help."
Though both watched him closely, it was Conan whose eyes sharpened as he peered up and questioned.
"Who are you really?"
Subaru looked down at the boy and pushed his glasses up with a smirk as he answered.
"I'm Okiya Subaru, a Holmes fan."
"... really?"
"Of course Watson. Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."
The flat stare and twitching eyebrow clearly showed how Conan felt about that answer. Akai though looked very amused by the kid's reaction,
just like how Subaru was.
Hiromitsu shared a knowing look with Akemi. It was probably a little unfair to Conan, considering how improbable Subaru's truth was.
The End
