I See Darkness

Spiraling overhead were dark clouds, bouts of thunder and lightning crackling around the ominous sight. The city of Domino was oddly lively even when there was an upcoming storm.

A figure cladded in black, glowing red gems decorating their body, sat idly on the tallest tower of the city, one foot hanging on the edge, the other letting its arm rest on their kneecaps.

They tilted their head and hummed, tutting at the sky. "Beautiful night isn't it?"

No one answered. Figures. He was alone so why would he expect a reply?

The figure chuckled and hummed. "Its a shame though. Shadows are running rampant around, trying to find the wielder of Osiris. Pity," they paused and slowly stood up, teetering on the edge, letting the wind caress their hair. "When they can't have him. He will not fall by wicked hands."

Majestic, white bones with red gems, and midnight blue wings exploded from their back, violet eyes with a swirl of bloody ruby glowing in the stark contrast of the million lights. The figure tosses their body into the air and let themself fall, snapping their wings open once they got enough altitude.

Yami was panicking.

No, scratch that! He was borderline frantic, skipping on one foot as he tried to put his shoe on the other. He had overslept!

They had made plans to meet up in the mall at 9 o clock, everybody had agreed to go, and that included Yuugi. Everything was set, that was, until, Yami's alarm didn't go off. It was already 9:30 a.m. Yami flew out of his bed that morning and took a shower in record time along with brushing his teeth.

The teen groaned. "Stupid shoe!"

'Stupid alarm clock, stupid day! Why can Saturday not be my lucky day?!' Yami thought bitterly as his shoe finally slipped in on his foot. The teen felt like crying out in victory. He was wearing a black long sleeve shirt and black pants with a studded belt.

Turning around, grey sleeveless vest swaying, he called out to his mother. "I have to go now mom! Jounou and the others are waiting for me!!"

"But son! You haven't even had breakfast yet!" the shrill voice of Akita called. Yami replied to her. "I'll go get something to eat in the mall! Bye! Love you!"

And with that, Yami was gone, leaving a very bewildered Akita behind who was holding a bowl and spoon.

"Why am I even raising a son who panics over something so little?" she asked, shaking her head fondly.

Yami had ran out to get a cab, taking in deep breaths to calm down once ha had climbed into the vehicle. He groped for his phone in his pocket and opened it, seeing the unopened messages of his friends and a few missed calls from them as well. He bit his lips and read them all, eyes widening comically at their initial messages.

Anzu: Yami where are you?

Anzu: You're late already! Come on we're waiting for you and Yuugi! You two are late!

Anzu: Never mind, your doppleganger is here. Hurry up!

Jounouchi: Aye bro? Ya there? Are you okay? Why u late? Did something happen? Did you finally get laid? Reply damnit!

"Jounouchi!" Yami cried indignantly, feeling embarrassed. The driver gave him a weird look.

He was about to type a reply when Ryou, the only sensible male in their group, sent a text.

Ryou: Yami, Yuugi is waiting for you. Are you on the way?

Yami halted and blinked, letting out a noise that sounded like a dying whale. Yuugi is waiting for him? Okay, why was his heart doing the skippy thing and his stomach doing flip-flop? Yami is now considering to get himself checked in the mental hospital.

He took a deep breath and shakily typed in a reply.

Yami: Yeah, I'm on my way

Yami: AND JOUNOU!! WHY DO YOU SAY THAT?! YOU KNOW IM NOT INTERESTED WITH SEX! WTF UR PROBLEM??

Yami quickly closed his phone after he sent his reply and pocketed the gadget, taking deep breaths in hopes that he will be able to calm down after the text Ryou sent.

Oh yeah, he needs to get himself checked into an asylum.

15 minutes later, Yami had arrived at the mall, paying the driver and stepping out of the cab and then texting the others that he had arrived. He went in to the building and looked around, feeling his phone vibrate in his hand as he checked for possible replies.

Malik: We're at d food court, the left corner near a store where you get your eyes checked.

Yami: Ok. Be there in a moment.

Yami slipped his phone back into his pocket and rushed off to find his friends, going up the escalator and practically jumping out of it, scampering away from the moving stairs, which earned him another bout of weird looks. Yami paid them no mind, more focused on the task at hand.

He soon found his friends lounging in the bench, all eating food. He sighed and chuckled, scratching the back of his head as he approached them.

"Yami you're finally here!" Ryou said, smiling up at the other, wearing a striped baby blue shirt and light blue jeans.

Jounouchi and Anzu grinned up at him, knowing looks in their faces. Jounouchi was wearing a blue t-shirt and black pants while Anzu was wearing a red pencil skirt and a black tank top that was covered by black jacket.

Yami chuckled, sweat dropping. "Yeah, I'm here. Sorry, I overslept." he nodded.

Akefia grunted, he was wearing a red button up shirt and dark blue pants "Don't you always?"

Yami rolled his eyes. "And your point is?"

Akefia blinked, shrugging. "Bloody hell, I don't know. I thought you got laid every night?"

Yami blanched, his face paling. "Are you saying I'm a prostitute?! Akefia I'm not like that!"

Akefia guffawed, earning more stares from the people around them. The others only covered their faces in utter embarrassment of the situation at hand. They hoped and prayed that Yuugi would interrupt the moment. Yami was getting incredibly flustered, fidgeting uncomfortably at the looks.

As if the heavens heard their prayers, the voice of their newest member bombarded their shame.

"Why am I not surprised that you two always argue?" there was amusement in the tone and Yami froze, heart skipping as he whirred around to face his look alike.

Yuugi was holding two subway sandwiches in his hand, his wrist clasped with studded wrist bands. Yami trailed his eyes higher, seeing that Yuugi was wearing a black tank top and black leg hugging jeans, two studded belts circling his petite waist. When Yami's eyes landed on Yuugi's face, he felt like dying at the smile that graced the cherubic face, eyes shining with mirth.

Yes, Yami will be dying as a happy man. Yuugi was simply too adorable and yet sexy at the same time.

Yami shook his head. "Ah, yeah, Little 'Kefia wants to rile me up as always. Arguments happen with us, I wonder how I stay sane." he shrugged, ignoring the loud 'Hey!' from the meaner looking albino and the snickers of the gang.

Yuugi raised a brow. "I wonder indeed." he chuckled and handed Yami one of the subway sandwiches. "Here. I brought this for you."

Yami blinked, looking at the sandwich. "For me?"

Yuugi nodded, chuckling. "Yeah. I figured that you would be rushing here after oversleeping so I brought you food. Take it." the young male insisted.

Yami hesitantly took the food and smiled, his features softening. "Thank you, Yuugi."

Marik interrupted. "That's great and all, but I wanna go and play some games or be somewhere that I can kill people."

Malik slapped his boyfriend's arm. Hard. "No killing people, Marik."

Marik groaned, eyeing his lover. "Finnneee!"

Yami and Yuugi shook their heads together, as they ate their sandwiches and joined their friends.

"(Memento quaeso, Heba...)" (1) The voice in Yami's head spoke again, then it turned confused."(Quis est..?)" (2) Yami blinked rapidly and looked around, trying to find that deep baritone again.

"Yami-kun? Are you okay?" Yuugi's voice broke through his concentration.

Yami whipped his head to Yuugi, blinking. "Huh? What?"

Yuugi tilted his head. "Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost." concern was shining in those violet eyes.

Yami shook his head and smiled. "I'm fine."

The gang all spent their day walking around the mall and then going to the arcade where they got occupied by the games. Anzu was swept away by the dancing game, Jounouchi the racing games, Bakura and Marik the shooting game, Ryou and Malik were playing the claw game.

Meanwhile, Yuugi and Yami were playing the fighting game, their faces showing their concentration as their hands pushed and moved the buttons that needed to be pressed.

Yuugi hummed unconsciously, a melodic sound that momentarily cut Yami's concentration, causing him to glance over at the other. It was enough distraction, and when Yami heard the shriek of his machine, he was staring wide eyed at the 'YOU LOSE' sign on the screen.

"...I lost?" he asked, mouth gaping.

Yuugi giggled. "So it seems," he held out more tokens. "Want to play another round?"

Yami looked at the tokens and shook his head, smiling. "Thanks, but I think that's enough games for me." He stood up and stretched. "Wanna go and get some fresh air?"

Yuugi shrugged and stood up, "Sure." walking together with Yami as they got out of the arcade, breathing in a sigh of relief.

Yuugi hummed. "You've never lost before have you?"

Yami shook his head. "Never once in my life." he crossed his arms behind his head, looking up at the sky then at the corner.

His eyes narrowed as something rippled in the corner. It looked like a shadow or something. Was he hallucinating?

"...Never lost before too." Yuugi's voice said. Yami snapped his eyes to the younger. "Oh uhhh...You haven't?"

Yuugi giggled, if he noticed that Yami was spacing out, then he didn't comment which Yami was grateful. "No, I have never lost too. Well, if you include counting the times my grandpa beat me when he was teaching me." he humored.

Yami chuckled, for some reason, he wants to meet the old man who was gracious enough to teach Yuugi the game and even house the little one with much love and attention. "He sounds nice, Yuugi."

Yuugi nodded, eyes lighting up. "He is! He's so friendly with people and has this fascination with ancient stuff and Egypt! That he keeps raving on about it," he grinned a little in embarrassment, cheeks coloring. "That's where I got my taste too."

Yami couldn't stop the chuckles that escaped his lips. "That's awesome, Yuugi! You gotta let me meet him someday!"

"Of course!"

They were about to continue their talk when screams erupted from inside the arcade, people suddenly bursting out of the door and running away in frenzied panic. Yami and Yuugi jumped, turning to the arcade doors with wide eyes, as the people all crowded out and stampeded.

Yami gasped. His friends!! Where were they?!

The gang, as if on cue, all stumbled out of the arcade, staggering and panting. They looked like shit, their hairs messy and their clothes rumpled. Oddly enough, there were foot marks on their clothes.

Akefia gritted his teeth. "There was something strange in there!"

Shadows suddenly shot out of the doors and latched unto Akefia's ankle. The man landing on the ground with a solid 'thump' and a loud 'Gah!' as the shadow pulled the man's leg.

"Help me, you idiots!!!" Akefia screamed.

Everyone leapt into action, grabbing Akefia's hands and pulling, Well more on Marik and Jounouchi's side, Yami, Yuugi, Anzu, Ryou, and Malik helped pull Marik and Jounouchi.

Another bout of shadows went loose, a loud piercing shriek that made people deaf ringing out loudly in the air. Yuugi stiffened, which didn't go unnoticed by Yami.

"Yuugi?"

Yuugi's eyes hardened. "Keep pulling. Now." he detached himself from the others and rushed to Akefia's legs.

Jounouchi cried out. "Yuugi! What're you doing?!"

Yami chorused what the blonde male said but Yuugi did not listen to them and instead brought down his foot on the direction of the shadows where it was latching on Akefia's legs. His combat boot landed hard on the tendril of shadow with a loud 'squelch'. The shadow let out a shriek and recoiled, wriggling like it had been electrocuted.

Yuugi turned his head to Yami and the others as they pulled Akefia up. His eyes glowed bright with fury and anger that it sent Yami for a loop. "Yuugi... what--?"

"Run." he whispered lowly.

Yami's eyes widened. "I can't do that! Y-You'll die if I do!" he stammered, feeling fear course through his veins.

Yuugi growled. "I said run!!" his voice thundered. "I will be fine! Go!!"

Yami smothered down a whimper but nodded at his friends. They hesitated, afraid to leave the smaller doppelganger of Yami but then turned and ran, Yami following not long after. His pocket was warm.

Yuugi closed his eyes and turned back to the arcade, he didn't flinch as the shadows attacked him, wrapping around his form and practically dragging him to the open doors. He closed his eyes and sighed, feeling them coil around them.

Little did Yuugi know, Yami had looked back, and his eyes had widened in fear, his form shook, his fist curled as he screamed. "YUUGI!!! NO!!"

His feet pounded on the asphalt, the cries of his friends fell on deaf ears as he zipped pass by, his lungs screaming for air and his heart pounding as adrenaline rushed through his veins. Yuugi! Yuugi..!

"YUUGI! COME BACK!!" Yami cried brokenly as he charged through the shadows who was dragging the said person wrapped in the dark embrace. Yami may have just known Yuugi for a while but he'd be damned if he couldn't save one of his friends!

"Yuugi!!" he called out, feeling tears prick at the edge of his vision.

A shadow curled and then lashed out, followed by others as well, heading straight for Yami, demonic red eyes glowed in the dark, a shrill shriek of victory ringing horridly around the building as the shadows caught Yami, who cried out in surprise.

Yami struggled and thrashed as the shadows swirled around him, curling around his body. Yami was losing hope, he couldn't reach Yuugi at this point.

"Use the card..." The voice spoke, it's tone on the verge of roaring.

Yami's eyes widened. Card? What card? He didn't remember.

"Yami Kokou... use the card I gave you.."

Yami's eyes widened more to the point they looked like saucers. Memories suddenly bombarded him at that moment, clicking into place. He remembered Atem spouting about a card, remembered the plastic being pressed to his hands and then Atem was gone as he closed his eyes from the light that blinded his sense of sight.

Yami shook his head and looked at his hands, shock coursing through him as he saw the blank card pressed on the palm of his right hand. "What the...?!" he yelped.

The shadows closed in, blocking any form of exit, Yami had no more time to ponder.

"Call out my name, young one.. do it!" The voice roared.

Yami felt no control in his limbs as he raised the card to the front of his face and flipped it so the blank front faced the darkness in front, his form glowed and his eyes scrunched shut tightly, as his hand raised above his head, his mouth opening.

"Osiris the Sky Dragon! Divine Beast of the Sky! Come forth!" His voice rumbled and resonated, bringing forth a burst of light and power that had the shadows shrieking in pain.

Yami almost fell over if only the light didn't hold him weightless, he opened his eyes and blinked, seeing the shadows hissing warily at him, their forms curling and resonating, pulsing like a heart.

Yami made a sound of confusion, watching as the shadows retreated more. Was something wrong with him?

His mind registered a moment later that something cool was draped on his head, something heavy was on his back that made him want to see what it was. And so, Yami did just that, finding something entirely unnatural.

There was a red leathery appendage sticking out from his shoulder, the thing had two spikes sticking out at the top. He then mechanically turned his head back and looked down at his appearance, almost fainting on the spot at the outfit he wore. A hoodie, with leather wrist bands decorating the sleeves of the jacket, black leather pants, and a sleeveless turtleneck undershirt was only keeping his chest covered.

Yami actually blushed and then turned his attention to the shadows, seeing them gather and swirl, ready to pounce. Yami tensed, awaiting their attack.

A sound that resembled that of a laser gun suddenly rang out, the shadows all wailing as they were obliterated by a burst of red flame. Another figure stood up, their form hidden by a midnight blue hoodie and pants, circular rubies glowing at the sleeves and whichever part they were attached, two bone white bleached and dark blue wings stuck out of their back as they turned around and stared.

Violet eyes with a hint of ruby, and silver bangs hung neatly on the face that oddly had horns plastered on the side of each cheeks.

Yami gulped at the person. He didn't know who it was, nor would he want to know who it is. All he wanted was to save Yuugi and get away from here.

The person raised their palm, fingers splayed as another red light formed on his hand, the jewels on his hoodie glowed. He hissed, his eyes glowing purple and red as the bright light began to glow hotter. The shadows shrieked in protest and recoiled.

"Be gone and torment this city no more!" The figure commanded, the shadows keep writhing, screeching out something that he could not understand, probably threatening the life of the stranger. The stranger sneered and threw the glowing orb. It let out a sound and then made contact with the shadows, the thing exploding into a bright light without a sound.

The shadows all scampered again, letting out tormenting wails of pain. Yami could only wince and then look at his palm. How should he do this..?

"Torment Osiris, no more! Be gone you shadow creatures!" He screamed again, the shadows shrieked. It was not enough. The blood-violet orbs glanced over to Yami urgently and gestured to him, using his hand to emphasize his point. "Use your light magic." he said, eyes boring into Yami's soul it made him fidget.

"My... what? Light magic? I don't..." he stammered, shying away from the gaze. The stranger's eyes widened, his brows shooting up to meet his hairline. "Don't tell me 'he didn't teach you?!" the man snapped, eyes comically wide.

Yami shook his head. "I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about. Who's he?"

The stranger let out a string of curses, making Yami flinch. The midnight blue clothed male raised both his palms to hold the writhing shadows at bay, a barrier made of solid red energy clumping and trapping the creatures of the dark. It was so quick that Yami didn't even have time to blink.

He did gawk as the shadows cried out in protest at being trapped. He covered both his arms with his hands, watching with wide, fascinated eyes at the red barrier. The stranger sighed loudly. "Fine then, repeat after me and put your hands in front of you, fingers spread and facing the barrier I made." he said.

Yami quickly followed the order and did just as that, facing the shadows and glancing at the stranger who's face remained stoic and unmoved, like it was a pretty normal day for him.

The stranger sighed and then said. "Repeat it like you mean it. Now then. I command thee"

"I command thee.." Yami started, hanging on to every word.

"In the name of the gods that gave me my life and gave me power... I banish thee, O shadows that torment thy home!"

"In the name of the gods that gave me my life and gave me power, I banish thee, O shadows that torment thy home!"Yami all but snapped, as a bright yellowish flicker in his hand grew in size until he could hold it no more, blasting the light to the shadows. He closed his eyes tightly at the brightness, finding he couldn't look at it directly.

The creatures let out a shriek of endless agony, feeling themselves be obliterated back into the shadow realm where they belonged.

Once the spur of power was over, Yami collapsed on his knees, feeling utterly drained and exhausted, panting heavily and trying to regain his breath. The stranger was kneeling down beside him, concern showing in their face as he fought the urge to vomit.

"Stay with me, Osiris... You're not leaving me ever again. Atem..placet.." the figure begged. Yami saw the dark spots creeping at the edge of his vision.

"Who are you talking...?" Yami started, his eyelids drooping and his form going slack, the figure catching him as he all but fell into the embrace of unconsciousness.
