The Vigilant Killers: Justice For All
Chapter One

"Rizzoli, Korsak, Frost. In my office!"

"Aw, I just got in," Barold "Barry" Frost said as he held a tray with four cups of coffee on it.

Vince Korsak shrugged and stood up from her chair and snagged the coffee cup with his name on it and said "It must be serious. Cavanaugh is a grump but he looked downright irate this morning. No sense in pissing him off."

Korsak then took the cup that had Jane's name on it and placed it on her desk, where she sat with her head rested on her desk. "Rizzoli…Your life force has arrived," Korsak said dryly.

Jane lifted her head up, revealing her exhausted face before she lazily took the cup and drank the hot liquid. She sat the cup down and the tired look vanished, replaced by an energized look. "I am ready to take on the day. So what's going on?"

"Did you get any sort of sleep last night?" Frost asked with a frown.

"Nah. Had too much to do," Jane replied.

Frost and Korsak exchanged a glance as Jane downed the rest of her coffee before she noticed the second cup of coffee and looked to Frost curiously. Frost grinned and said "Had a feeling you would need the extra one."

Jane looked to Korsak and said "I love him already," Jane looked back to Frost and took the extra coffee and said to him "You're a lifesaver. Thank you. Now let's go see the chief before he blows a gasket."

The trio walked into Cavanaugh's office, with only Frost giving a brief "Hey Chief."

Cavanaugh regarded him with a nod then said "We got call from your brother Jane. There's been another murder by 'Astria'."

"Are you serious? That's the fifth one this month!" Korsak exclaimed in shock.

"This person is working very quick…" Frost said with a frown on his face.

"You gotta be shitting me," Jane muttered angrily.

"The body has been located at the Public Garden downtown. We have several officers at the scene waiting for you three now get to it," Cavanaugh said. The three nodded and quickly left the office.

"Five bodies in the span of a month with no common link yet. I don't know whether this is better or worse than Hoyt…" Jane muttered darkly as she tugged at the black glove on her right hand before tugging at the left one as she waited at a traffic light.

A tick she had developed after keeping them on her hands after the Surgeon Case.

"I can't stop this feeling…Deep inside of me. Girl, you just don't realize. What you do to me," Frost sang, an earbud in his right ear.

"Now that's going to be stuck in my head. Thanks Kid!" Korsak exclaimed, which caused a smug smirk to form on Frost's face.

"You know you love Old man," Frost replied with a laugh.

"Kids, don't make me turn this car around," Jane said with brief stare at both of them.

"Sorry mom," The pair replied in unison, their voices dry.

"Good," Jane said then she let out a whine and grumbled "I sound just like Ma there…" She continued to drive until they reached their destination at the Boston Public Garden. Jane stepped out her car first and tugged down her gloves with Frost and Korsak leaving the car after her.

With a motion from Jane, The trio walked down trail that led to the Equestrian statue of George Washington but hanging from a noose tied around the horse's head, there was the body of a naked female with dyed pink hair, a simple white mask with a bloody smile on the surfice and a blindfold over the eyes.

But what caused the trio ti grit their teeth was the word "Astria" carved in her chest.

All around the hanging woman were police officers trying to keep the various photographers away, which caused Jane to roll her eyes and mutter "Buzzards…" before she walked up to the group and shouted "Beat it morons! Can't you see that this is a murder scene?! Show some sort of respect!"

The photographers moved out of the way to allow Jane to get through the police tape. She walked up to her brother Frankie, who was dressed in a pair of slacks and a gray shirt, and gave him a brief fist bump. "About time you got here," Frankie said with a grin.

"Traffic," Jane replied as Frankie exchanged a fist bump with Korsak before going into an elaborate handshake with Frost. Jane couldn't help but smile at this.

"I should have never introduced you two," Jane noted once Frost and Frankie finished their handshake. "Now onto business. What time did you find the body Frankie?"

"About an hour ago," Frankie replied with a frown. "Marisa and I were walking around after our date and we spotted the body."

"Marisa? My neighbor Marisa?" Jane asked.

"Yeah," Frankie replied before he looked to Frost and said "Dude, she is a catch. She's a Lawyer and everything."

"You lucky bastard," Frost said as he nudged Frankie in the side, both of them grinning.

"Bromance later," Jane said. "Wait, all night?"

"Yeah. We ate MIDA. Spent a night at her place, wink, wink, then we decided to eat some breakfast and walk around the park before my shift started," Frankie answered.

"That's a long ass date," Korsak commented.

"Thanks for calling it in. You know what's next," Jane said with a small grin.

"We'll be at the station waiting for you guys," Frankie said with a smile before he walked away from the scene and began to talk to a woman, who looked up with teary eyes and waved at Jane.

Jane waved back awkwardly before she mumbled to Korsak "I hope she doesn't tell him about last summer…"

Korsak snorted before he looked at the body of the woman and said "This woman's body is heavily bruised. Looks like there are some stab marks too..." Korsak leaned close and noticed that the woman's fingernails and toenails were off, potentially ripped off. "Just like the others...Tortured then murdered...It's hideous…"

Frost tilted his head at the woman's covered face and then quickly looked away to avoid tossing up his breakfast but once he calmed down, he asked "It's depraved..."

"Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that..." Jane murmured softly, her voice tinged with anger at the sight. "No one deserved this..." she then took a breath and asked"When will that new coroner get here?"

"New coroner?" Frost asked as he looked to Jane, only to see the body in his peripheral then quickly turned away again.

"Yeah. Her name is Laura Island or something like that," Jane answered. "I heard about her starting today but haven't se-."

"Excuse me ma'am, you can't go past this point," The trio turned around to see a police officer holding back someone from entering the area.

"I do apologize but I am Maura Isles, the new Chief Medical Examiner," the voice replied. "I'm here to examine the deceased female."

'Soft but insistent…' Jane thought before she said "Officer Ramirez, let her through." The officer looked back and Jane rolled her eyes and added "It's okay. She's telling the truth."

The officer stepped aside and while it was impossible, Jane still felt her heart stop as she laid eyes on the most stunning, honey-blonde woman she had ever seen in her life. "Dude…are you sure that's the new coroner? She looks like she just stepped out of a model shoot," Frost whispered to Jane, who only watched as the woman walked forward until she stood in front of the trio.

"Good afternoon. My name is Maura Isles. As I previously mentioned, I am the new Commonwealth of Massachusetts Chief Medical Examiner and Forensic Pathologist," the woman said with a small but genuine smile.

Jane stared down at the hazel eyes of their new coroner and felt herself almost hypnotized before Korsak nudged her right side, which caused Jane to blink in surprise. "O-Oh. I'm Jane Rizzoli, The one to my right is Vince Korsak and the one to my left is Barold-"

"Barry," Barry interrupted.

"-Frost. We're the lead detectives of this ongoing investigation," Jane finished with a grin.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Detective Rizzoli, as well as you Detective Korsak and Detective Frost," Maura stated.

"Call me Jane," Jane replied.

"Okay…Jane…" Maura replied with a smile. "Now, I believe I have a body to inspect."

Rain: And that is the end of this chapter. Pretty short but a nice length for a introductory chapter…So until the next one?
