Prologue
The strange being cocked his head amused as he watched the events unfold in the Human World from the Astral Plane. The dimensional window floating next to his chair was a looking-glass between worlds.
He sat in his large golden chair, cross-legged, as it floated aimlessly in open space. The atmosphere around him was a bright orange-colour with a mixture of other textures blended gaseously. The white, ghostly make-up on his face broadened his cheeks as his black lips broached a sadistic smile. The rest of his attire was ostentatious in appearance much like a child on Halloween.
"Kira! Kira! You're so fascinating!" he said excitedly. "Oh, I would love to meet you in person!"
He had watched countless civilizations rise and fall over his lengthy existence, but nothing interested him more than Kira branding his own will upon human kind. And with a supernatural tool to boot. The Death Note, he knew it well. An aptly named book that when a human's name is written down on a page, they will die after a certain allotted time.
"You are so exciting, so inspiring! Kira, I really want to meet you!"
Every couple of centuries, the Human World was rocked to its core when a Death Note found its way there. And every time, when a human picked it up, it would cause untold chaos. Humans were so predictable and would use it ambiguously and ambitiously for their own ends. Not one human used it to help mankind. Even Kira had become lost in its embrace.
He had to admit, Kira had noble intentions…at first. He wanted to save mankind from itself. But power corrupts absolutely. There were only a few humans with enough will power not to use the Death Note like Kira had, but they ended taking their own lives rather than use it to saves themselves from tumbling into insanity.
Kira was tricked. Little did he know the price he would have to pay to use the Death Note. But that would come later. He knew the outcome of his eventual end, but he decided to forget about that and use it to its fullest now.
The being watched current events unfold like a thrilling soap opera. Time was not always fluent and it always changed. Humans called it the 'Butterfly Effect'. One simple change in the past and the future was irrevocably altered. And it had, slightly. Things had not been what they once were—the timeline changing. The 'Kira Incident' as a whole was different now.
"Kira, you've done so much in so little time with the power of a Shinigami," the being said, "and I trust you'll provide me with much more ample entertainment."
