It felt almost like a goodbye with not just Pen but this unknown very large entity as well, David thought as the elevators closed. He'd always felt like they were being watched, even if he knew no one was there, and it had oddly become almost comforting, the feeling. Now though that feeling slipped away to leave a cold empty one in its place. If they, if he, had been watched for the last 13 or 15 years, the person doing it was gone now. David hoped, against all logic and reason, it wouldn't be for good. He liked the feeling of being guarded by this unseen thing. There were moments when, whatever it was, didn't like something and the outrage could be felt by Rossi or, in the case of team weddings and dinners, the love could be. It was a strange feeling Rossi brushed off to getting old but for some reason… he had a feeling that the team's guardian(s) would not be returning. It felt, and he couldn't help chuckling at the ridiculousness of this, like the series finale of a TV show about FBI Agents.

Ridiculous right?

There was no way his life was a TV show. What would they even call it?

FBI? No. That's a rather up front name.

BAU? No.

Quantico? Naw, not really a cool enough name.

David's brain clicked as the name of the "fake show" hit him, "Criminal Minds!"

"What?" Emily questioned, giving him a weird look as they approached the new jet.

"Nothing," Rossi covered not having realized he'd spoken that out loud.

A TV show about the team called Criminal Minds? Ridiculous… and yet not so ridiculous that his brain discounted it. If he was on a TV show, a crime drama, then that would mean he's being played by an actor. Or was he? He wondered who, certainly in this- why was he still contemplating this as if it were true?

David shook his head to clear it and boarded the jet. There was no way this was some tv show, this was real life, David chided himself. With that last thought he took a seat on the jet smiling as Emily sat down across from him, J.J. next to her and Spencer next to him. Tara, Luke and Matt took their usual seat and they all prepared to take off on their next case.
