A/N: Hey, first multi-chaptered story for the fandom! Since I was only writing oneshots. Why and how I thought of this? I won't say just yet.Probably chapters are gonna be short like that cause I have great struggle making chapters long (I kinda envy those people who make their chapters around 5-6k words long, I wish I could do that) aaannnddd I have issues with writer's block too.Hope you enjoy

Chapter 1: Escape

"Setting off the detonators now.", Sabine said over the comms.

Somewhere out there, around the base, the rest of her team members were already in position, ready for her signal. The operation was simple: bomb a part of the complex so that the majority of the troops were diverted there, the crew sneaks in to free the prisoners and run. Couldn't be a more simple operation.

Loud booms echoed in there, orange blazes of fire engulfing a part of the building. A small world of chaos settled in that place of the base, and alarms blared. Stormtroopers ran in a panic, their footsteps making the floor shake on their wake.

The rebels who were waiting at a corner of the base they had cleared, heard the explosions. Sabine's signal. Ezra looked over at Zeb who was standing at the other side of the door. The two nodded at each other and ran inside.

Jedi and Lasat navigated through the confusing corridors, on the lookout for a certain black and orange coloured droid. Chopper was the first to be sent inside the base so that he found where the cells of the prisoners were, and set the explosives.

They had to avoid the groups of troopers that were running. Peaking around the corners, you could see them, going the wrong direction or back to their posts. Each time some of them were about to make a close encounter with the rebels, Ezra was holding his hand above the hilt of this new lightsaber, ready to grab it.

And each time, Zeb had to shake his head 'no' at that gesture. Because he knew full well, that the kid didn't intend on using it to deflect the blasters.

Ever since Malachor, the crew couldn't help but notice how Ezra had gotten more aggressive. Not towards them, but towards enemies. Where he was usually just stunning them, now... he didn't hesitate to stab them with the lightsaber or shoot them with the gun not set in stun.

And that worried them all greatly. Ever since that fateful day, something in Ezra had snapped. That's why Hera was trying to convince Kanan to at least try to talk to his apprentice. For whatever reason though, he would keep his distance. From all of them. And Ezra himself had long ago given up on talking to his master. He attempted at least twice. And that was it.

There wasn't any kind of communication between the two Jedi. Only a small chitchat, asking the usual 'how are you?' in the morning before parting their own ways. Kanan at the edge of the base and Ezra seeking out if he could help anyone. And so that's how he ended up in this mission.

While running, they literally bumped into the droid they were looking for. Chopper tilted his dome up at them, and grumbled something in binary. He was obviously annoyed by the fact that noone was paying attention to him.

"Did you find where the prisoners are?", Ezra asked, shaking Chopper out of his rant. The droid beeped some quick words, this time (surprisingly) compliant with the two rebels. "He will show us.", the Jedi explained to Zeb.

"Can't he just tell us where are they?"

Chopper grumbled again in response. 'Either you follow me or you find them on your own.'

"Thanks for the help, you bucket of bolts.", the Lasat growled, giving him a good slap and moved past. Said bucket of bolts wasn't going to be any help, so there was no point to trying and negotiate.

Ezra found a close by data pad and looked through the most recent entry logs, and there were many of them. Reports, transports, supplies (maybe he would keep those), prisoners...

"Here.", he pointed out to Zeb, showing him the results.

"Good. At least some of us are being cooperative...", the other rebel remarked, glaring back at the droid. Chopper blabbered something about going back to the ship and contacting Hera as he left. Plus something of the style 'if there's someone's who being uncooperative that's you.'

The two Spectres didn't mind him, and went to assigned location. They had no time to lose if they were to save those prisoners before it was too late.

A dozen corridors later, they were in front of the cells where the prisoners were held. Ezra and Zeb got the doors unlocked with ease. The trapped rebels lifted their heads to look up at them surprised. They have expected to see Imperials.

"Come on, we have to move!", Ezra urged motioning for them to come out.

The group of two became a group of nine, all of them following the Lasat's lead through the base. Where they thought that they were going to get out of this place all clear, a entire patrol bumped right into them. They must have been alerted about the escape. Soon enough, another came running close behind them.

"Split up! Four of you go with Ezra, the rest come with me!", hollered Zeb. It wasn't what they were planning at all, but since they had unarmed soldiers with them against two entire troops of bucketheads, there weren't really many options.

"You heard him! Let's go!", said Ezra, complying with Zeb's idea. The Lasat followed one corridor, shooting his way past the stormtroopers that were aiming at them, and the Jedi went down a quieter way, since he had a bigger group with him.

"We're all getting out of here.", the latter told them to encourage them.

Ezra had memorized the charts of the building well, so he knew pretty much every possible escape route as well as the staff of the base would. Another patrol returning to it's position forced the rebels to go another way, one of the newly freed rebels getting hurt was too much of a risk, now that they were that close to leaving.

The corridor they had picked made the leader of the group seriously reconsider this. At the door of this passage, Sabine had placed a detonator. If it exploded while they were in it, the whole mission would be doomed.

Ezra pulled out his comms to relay his fellow crew member his current position and warn her to not blow up this bomb just yet.

The rebels ran out the door, the Jedi staying behind to cover their escape. A group of troopers began shooting, but he palmed and damaged the panel before they could actually cause any damage. The issue was that they already did.

One of the soldiers had lowered on the ground, clutching a blaster wound on his leg. It seems that the stormtroopers weren't that bad shots after all.

Ezra immediately ran to his side and helped the rebels to his feet. "Are you alright?"

"I think I'll manage.", the other man replied wincing.

Before they knew what happened, a loud boom filled the air, a shock wave following it. The detonator on the other side of the door had been set off, sending the two a few feet further flat on the ground.

A/N: Tell me what you think so far!Considering the hint from the summary and the ending of this chapter, you must have an idea of what's going to happen next. It obviously has to do with the aftermath of that explosion.RR and see you in the next chapter!
