Hello again! I hope you're enjoying these little stories and I hope you're doing well despite the current world climate.
I haven't told a story where the parents find out together, so here it is: Vic and Teddy! Enjoy!
"Oh Merlin."
"Wow."
Teddy and Victoire both sat slouched on the edge of the bath, staring down the potion bottle on the cabinet that just confirmed their suspicions; Victoire was pregnant.
After what felt like years of silence, the pair both pulled their gazes away from the potion and stared into each other's eyes.
"Well how about that?" Teddy breathed out, the corners of his eyes crinkling excitedly and the sides of his lips curling up into a wide smile. A look of excitement that wasn't replicated, but was instead met with the wide eyes and creased brows of his fiancé.
Without a word, Victoire stood up abruptly and stormed out of their bathroom. She found herself in the living room where she had more space to breathe, and think, and most importantly, to pace back and forth with worry. Victoire had never been so confused and anxious and somehow, rather angry in her whole life.
Teddy followed his fiancé into the living room slowly, a small, delirious grin unmoving from his face as he thought about the news they had just received. He was going to be a dad. As excited as he was over the announcement, he knew Vic wasn't taking the news as smoothly. When he reached her, she was pacing across the room, wringing her hands together and shaking her head ferociously, spitting out some vulgar French words as she always did when she was upset.
"But it can't be possible, we always take care of this risk!" Vic growled more to herself than to Teddy.
Cautiously, Teddy replied, "Well the charm isn't always 100% effective, right? I guess we could've done it wrong at some stage?"
"How could we do it wrong?"
Teddy shrugged at first, but not long after he realised what may have contributed to their predicament. "Well I don't know, if you cast it while intoxicated, like we have done on many occasions, I guess it could go wrong then?", he thought back to the many drunken nights they'd shared recently and feeling guilty that he may not have been as careful as he should. "I mean, even then, it may have just decided not to work one time, and now here we are."
"I knew I should've started taking the potion! Merlin, I am such a foolish, foolish girl!"
Vic grabbed a fluffy blue pillow from their couch and buried her face in it as she groaned loudly. Teddy chuckled quietly, not wanting to aggravate her, and took the pillow off her face gently. Once she released it, Teddy threw it back on the couch and guided her to sit on his lap in the armchair right next to them. Vic let herself snuggle onto Teddy's chest, finding a slight bit of comfort as he held her gently and played with her hair.
"It'll be okay Vic," he said gently.
"I can't believe this has happened to us."
"You're acting like this is the worst news in the world love. Can't we just be excited about this?"
So much for being comforted. Vic snapped her head up from Teddy's chest and stared at him wildly, absolutely horrified by his comment. "Excited?!"
"Yes?"
Vic got off her fiancé's lap and towered over him angrily, her hands were firm on her hips to exaggerate her temper. "Are you out of you're mind? Why in Merlin's name do you think we should be excited right now?"
"Well, because we made a baby, Vic!" his brows furrowed with confusion before a gentle smile washed over his face, "We are two people in love, who made love and made a baby. That's something to get excited over if you ask me!"
Victoire couldn't deny that her heart fluttered at his declaration. Yes, they were in love, yes they'd made love and yes they'd made a baby. While in theory it sounded like the perfect combination, Vic couldn't be more unprepared and shocked about it. Despite Teddy's ecstatic reaction, the fear and worry and shock in her system saw it fit to project all her issues verbally in that moment.
"We're not even married Teddy!"
"We're engaged love, with a wedding less than two months away… Surely that counts for something?"
"Children scare the shit out of me! How am I going to manage taking care of one?"
"It'll be our kid though Vic, we'll be fine. Plus you've got like a million relatives who know what they're doing, so it's not like we won't have help."
Vic was running out of ways to prove how unprepared they were to have a baby. She continued pacing in front of my fiancé, who seemed quite smitten lounging on the couch, "My dad is going to flip when he finds out we've been having sex before marriage!"
"Vic, he caught us snogging naked in your bedroom when you were 18, he's had quite a few years to process that we weren't saving ourselves for marriage."
"Well how's he going to process the fact that I got knocked up before marriage then?"
"That might be a little harder to process, but Bill is a very understanding man, I'm sure he'll come around to the news, especially when he realises we're giving him his first grandchild," Teddy smirked as he spoke calmly, though he wouldn't admit Vic's father scared the daylights out of him. "Besides, surely we could keep it a secret for the next two months and pretend it happened on our honeymoon, right?"
"That's not happening. You know my family, they're all too smart and too experienced with babies and pregnancies. Someone is bound to figure it out!"
Teddy scratched the back of his hair and let out a content sigh. He couldn't help but find the whole thing amusing, particularly when he thought about Vic's whole family doing the calculations to determine the exact minute their baby was conceived. No matter how funny he found it, Teddy tried not to be too condescending to his soon-to-be wife and her feelings. As excited as he was, he knew Vic had some foundational beliefs and values that were making her question her feelings towards this news, and he knew he would need to reassure and support her until she felt content with their new journey.
"Besides, we don't even know how far along I am," Vic continued after a small silence, "I could have a baby bump within a couple of weeks for all we know!"
Teddy's face lit up with excitement at the thought of his partner's stomach growing due to their child. He couldn't help but reach for and touch her stomach gently. That move was instantly met with his hand being slapped away from Victoire.
"They're going to be so mad."
"Vic, wasn't your mum encouraging you to make her a grandmother just the other week?"
Vic narrowed her eyes at her fiancé and shook her head, refusing to give into his arguments, "That is irrelevant!"
"It really isn't," he smirked.
"She was obviously joking," she huffed, trying to pretend her mum wasn't purposely encouraging them to give her grand babies. Sure, she'd said it, but she certainly did not mean it.
"Either way, we're having a baby and they're getting a grandchild out of it - I'd say we all win in this situation, right?"
Vic stared at Teddy as he looked up at her from the chair he was lounging on, the ghost of a smile tugging on the side of her mouth, "You're really not going to let me be angry about this are you?"
Teddy grinned back at her, "Not a chance love."
"So what, we're really doing this? We're really going to be parents?"
"Yes dear, and we'll be bloody brilliant ones."
With a newfound courage, Vic walked over to Teddy and let their lips collide instantly. She breathed him in as they wrapped their limbs around each other, slowing lowering herself onto his lap again. She was sure she'd never grow tired of snogging that man, no matter how crazy the situation they ended up in.
After a few minutes of enjoying each other's lips, Vic pulled her lips away from Teddy's and said firmly, "Well I'm not telling my parents, that can be your job."
"You can tell mine then," he said slowly and softly, the mood of their conversation shifting from playful to delicate instantly.
You insensitive bitch, her inner voice screamed at her as she physically cringed, "I'm sorry Teddy. I didn't mean t-"
"I know you didn't Vic," Teddy gave her a tight smile and wrapped his arms her tighter, knowing the mood had completely changed, "sorry, I just… I just wish they were here to tell. Like with every milestone we've reached together, I wish I could show them all of it."
Any discussion of Teddy's parents was bittersweet. Teddy longed for his parents, and while he had no clear memory of them, he could feel them. He longed to feel them physically again, to know them, to see their faces and hear their amazing stories from their own mouths, not just from those who knew them.
The tragic loss of Teddy's parents had always been a dark cloud looming over him, despite how proud his was of their bravery and sacrifice, allowing him and the generations that followed him to lead better, safer lives. It was moments like this, like so many moments throughout his life, that he wished he could share with them.
Victoire fortunately had not experienced such loss in her life, though it didn't stop her from empathising with her husband-to-be. However, Vic could not imagine the pain of losing her parents, so she had to actively remind herself to be mindful of the simple things in life that she enjoyed, that Teddy was not afforded. So easily though, as shown in this moment, was it for her to forget.
Victoire snuggled in closer to her fiancé, speaking softly and sincerely, "So do I Teddy. We'll go tell them though, together. And when you're ready to tell them."
Teddy often visited his parents' grave to share news with them. Though he wasn't completely convinced that he could communicate with them, he always felt more at peace when he had the opportunity to visit them and openly speak of his achievements, hoping deep down, that they really could hear him, and that most importantly, they were proud of him.
"We'll tell them once you've accepted it yourself."
Vic nodded, accepting that she may have been a little too quick to lose it over this news. There was no denying it was scary, and unexpected, but in the grand scheme of things, she could now see that it was definitely not the end of the world. If anything, it was the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in their world. With a deep, resigning sigh, she explained, "I'm sorry I was so… angry about it. I just didn't think we'd be having a baby anytime soon, that's all. It took me by surprise."
Victoire looked up at her soon-to-be husband and was met with the most goofy, over-the-top smile she'd ever seen on his face. His hair was also giving away his mood; an electric violet shade, that could only mean he was immensely happy. She'd seen this kind of reaction from him once when he proposed, and also the first time they'd had sex, though that time it had a tinge of pink. Regardless, it could only mean one thing; he was absolutely smitten.
Vic couldn't help but smile back at him, but still questioned his expression, "What's that look for?"
"We're having a baby."
Finally, the both of them were grinning like fools.
"Yes, it's absolutely terrifying and ridiculous, but we're having a baby."
