As promised, here's the one-shot I said I would upload before I start on TimeWarp. If you wouldn't mind, please drop a review for me. I'm always looking to improve my work, and reviews are the best way for me to gauge what needs improving. Even if you don't have a critique, I'm still happy to read reviews, and I usually respond where I can. That being said, enjoy!

Great Fox II, Captain's Quarters
05:58 AM
Another day, another mission.
It was beautiful, in a way, how one could work themselves into a rhythmic daily routine, and have the completion of said routine become nothing short of second nature. For Fox, that second nature had been following the same routine every day for the past couple of years, consisting mostly of waking up at six in the morning, working out, eating breakfast, and spending the rest of the day either with missions that Peppy assigned to them, or miscellaneous work aboard the massive dreadnought. In just two minutes, the next day in a long streak of waking up, working out, completing missions, and hanging out with the rest of his teammates before the night cycle began again would be underway.
Though, it wasn't like he hated it. Running alongside him in the seemingly endless streaks of missions, repairs, physical and mental and training were his teammates, but more importantly, his wife, Krystal. Waking up at six every morning might have seemed to him as irritating and pointless in the past, but it certainly wasn't like that now that he had someone to wake up next to. Krystal had become his reason to smile; his reason to live, really. All the sleepless nights spent tossing and turning at the memories of his parents being taken from him, or the countless pirates, thieves, and murderers he'd dispatched in the past were finally eased by someone who suffered similar trauma, someone he could open up to and relate to in his times of need.
05:59 AM
Fox had already been slowly waking up for the past couple of minutes, as if his body had already been expecting the alarm clock to begin its repetitive, uncaring tone, commanding him to get out of bed and start the day. He could feel his senses slowly becoming more prominent as his brain clawed its way back to consciousness; his body felt fairly cool, not necessarily cold, as his biological clock told his fur to start growing out a couple of months ago. Granted, he was wearing sweatpants, but he wasn't wearing a shirt, either. It was probably because Krystal ended up rolling over and stealing the covers again, though it wasn't like he could blame her for it. The tropical climate on Cerinia didn't really give her the opportunity to have a thicker coat grow out in the winter, even if her tail stayed insanely fluffy.
His sense of balance and spatial orientation slowly slipped back into his mind, pulling his body out of whatever dream world his mind had whisked him away to and back onto his bed with Krystal. He felt unusually light for some reason, as if he were just floating above the mattress without even touching it at all, though it could have just been ROB maneuvering to dodge an asteroid and the gigantic G-Diffusers aboard the battle cruiser were just about to compensate for the change in motion.
06:00 AM
Before he could ponder it any further, the alarm clock on Fox's nightstand began to rouse him from his state of slumber. A daily reminder to get up and seize the day and use every moment to its full potential. Fox instinctively began to roll over to tap the snooze button on the top of the small display before it could wake the sleeping vixen next to him, but as he rolled over onto his right side to turn off his alarm, his hand passed through thin air, causing his whole body to spin around and his eyes to shoot open. The sight that greeted his dilated pupils had been far more bizarre than he'd ever expected.
"What the-?!"
Everything in his room that wasn't secured in place was floating freely, and Fox was suspended in mid-air a little over five feet above his bed, directly between the mattress and the ceiling. The few framed photos he had of his family and the team had floated off their anchors, his phone and wrist comm were lazily rolling around on the ceiling, and he could see a burrito of blankets with two blue ears poking out of the top slowly sliding up the wall to his right.
'So she DID take the blankets.'
Soon, he heard Krystal's sleepy moan come from the roll of bed coverings on his wall, reminding him that his alarm clock was still blaring its monotonous, uncaring voice at the room's occupants.
"Uh... Krystal?"
The azure vixen let out another tired grunt before she gave an intelligible reply.
"What is it? Is Lylat hurtling itself towards impending doom again?"
Fox smirked and let out a small chuckle.
"No, but you might get a kick out of this. Take a look at where you are," the orange vulpine replied.
Soon enough, the head of Krystal McCloud, accompanied by the white and blue tufts of fur on her face and her flowing purplish locks of hair floating listlessly behind her from the lack of gravity, poked itself out from her blanket burrito. She took a quick glance around the room, before slowly shaking her head and doing double-takes everywhere she looked. She could see all of their belongings floating weightlessly, as if they no longer cared for gravity, or at least the artificial gravity that the ship's G-Diffusers produced. Looking ahead of her, she saw the floating form of her husband, suspended above their bed, and also that she had floated up against the wall, still trapped in a roll of blankets.
"Fox?"
"Yes?"
"Where's the gravity gone?"
The vulpine let out a small laugh.
"If I had to guess, the G-Diffusers probably malfunctioned."
The vixen began to unroll herself, at which point Fox asked her to throw something at him. Before she could ask why, Fox began trying to stretch his arms and legs as far as possible in a futile attempt to hit either the ceiling or his bed to push him to a surface he could use to get around. She laughed at him for a few moments, before planting her feet on the wall and pushing off of it, sending her right at Fox with a pair of outstretched arms. As if Fox had expected her to literally throw herself at him, he opened his arms and caught her in a warm embrace as they gently sailed towards the wall on the other side of the room. Fox absorbed the impact as his back hit the sleek, matte steel plating with a dull thud.
"Maybe it's not such a bad thing," Fox finished as he planted a brief kiss on her forehead.
"And what makes you say that?" She asked with a small smile as she buried her head under his chin.
Fox reached up and turned off the alarm clock before pushing Krystal off of him and jumping off the wall like she did before. Fox caught her in mid-air and spun them both around as they soared back to the opposite wall in a twirling tornado of orange and blue.
"Well, haven't had any reason to hate it so far," he said as they landed with Fox pushing her up against the wall.
Krystal got a playful look in her eye before she kissed him on the muzzle and pushed him back. This time, vixen dove at him, only now with much more force. Fox quickly dodged her by pushing off the ceiling and landing on his bed, something his wife anticipated. She had already changed directions and flew into her mate, sending them both rolling off of the bed and back onto the wall.
"Now I do," he teased. Krystal giggled at him and snuggled further into her husband's neck, sighing in content as he reached a hand up and scratched behind her ears.
"I wonder if anyone else woke and noticed what happened," she pondered. Fox mulled it over for a moment, then replied as he began moving to reach his floating communicator and phone.
"I doubt it. Slippy and Falco can sleep through just about anything."
Fox slipped his communicator onto his wrist and put his phone into the pocket of his sweatpants. After throwing on a t-shirt, he floated over to his door and pressed the button to open it. The metal panel slid aside with a small hiss. The vulpine looked back to see his wife putting on some lounge-wear, and motioned for her to follow by jerking his head towards the empty hallway.
"Come on, let's go check it out."
After floating through the labyrinth of cold, steel hallways that made up the internals of the Great Fox, the two had arrived on the bridge to find ROB suspended above his post. The robot's head swiveled around to meet their amused gaze before giving its reply.
"Some assistance would be much appreciated."
"Yeah, yeah, I gotcha," Fox replied as he propelled himself off of the floor. After flying up above the robot, he pushed himself downward off of the viewing window and caught ROB by the leg, pulling the android back onto the floor.
"What's wrong with the G-Diffusers, ROB?"
"Detecting problems, give me a moment," the robot droned.
Fox had jumped into his captain's chair, putting on the straps to keep himself from floating away. While the robot did his analysis, the vixen took the opportunity to slowly float up behind her husband, spinning herself around to face him once she caught the chair's headrest. The vulpine clasped his hands in hers, leaving her suspended by nothing more than the fingers intertwined with her own. Not taking his eyes off hers, he slowly reached a hand over and undid the buckle to the seat strap, allowing the both of them to float upwards, twirling around each other in a delicate, free-flowing dance of love and desire.
"Kind of romantic, isn't it?" The vixen asked.
The vulpine replied with an affirming noise, pulling his mate closer to him by wrapping his arms around her back as he gently propelled them both across the room from surface to surface. After a few more moments of silence, the ship's AI spoke up again.
"Malfunction detected in power distributor node 3A. Restarting..."
Apprehension filled both of their expressions as they knew what was about to happen. The familiar low hum of the G-Diffusers slowly came back to life, but so did the gravity. Fox braced himself as Krystal flew out of his arms and he fell about seven feet back onto the floor of the bridge, letting his knees bend as his feet impacted the steel floor. As if he knew what was about to happen next, he held out his hands, letting his wife fall right into his arms with a small yip of excitement.
"Gotcha," he teased.
Krystal tightened her hold around his neck, giving him a lick on his cheek ruff.
"Always saving me," she cooed.
The vulpine's eyes gained a playful glint as he readjusted the vixen in his arms. Now was the time he decided that he'd throw something new into his daily routine.
"Hey ROB, turn that power node back off."
The robot turned its head towards its owner.
"Distributor node 3A controls power to the Gravity Diffusers. Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'm sure. Just make sure to hold on to something."
"Noted."
The deep thrum of the G-Diffusers died out once again, allowing Fox to jump off the floor carry his wife through the air like a superhero without gravity to hold them back.
With any luck, Peppy wouldn't have any new missions for them that day.
