Part 1

"Kazuma, Kazuma! wake up! We have quests to do!"

I roll away from this strange girl.

"Err…. Just five more minutes…"

"Get up already. You're starting to remind me of the NEETs I'm acquainted with back at my village."

Why does everyone think I'm some kind of shut in?.

I guess it should be about time to get up.

After getting geared up we headed towards the guild.

On the way there, Megumin asked me a peculiar question.

"Kazuma, what kind of clothes are you wearing? They don't seem fit for going on a quest."

Right now I was wearing my beloved tracksuit from Japan.

"These are clothes from my home country Japan."

"Japan? I've never heard of a country like that before…"

"It's a far off country nowhere near this place. Honestly I'm already starting to miss being at home and lazing around all day."

"Ah, so you really are just some kind of NEET aren't you,"

This girl…

The guild was rowdy as usual. The quest board was crowded with people trying to get their hands on a quest.

While waiting for the quest board to be less crowded, we ate some breakfast.

After eating we started deciding on the quest.

"Kazuma, Kazuma! I bet my explosions would decimate that Manticore and Griffin!"

"We almost got taken out by a Rookie Killer yesterday. I don't feel like dying today."

All of these quests seemed way out of our league; Are there no easy quest here?

After looking for a bit I found something interesting.

"Cabbages have been found nearby the river. Please collect them and bring them back."

I read the quest out loud and looked at Megumin to see if she approved.

"Heh. Such an easy quest as collecting cabbages will be easy for the almighty Megumin."

Why does she have to make such a big deal over getting cabbages?

"All right, we'll do this quest then."

And thus Megumin and I headed out the guild for our quest today.

…

About two hours after leaving the guild, we arrived at the river.

What I was met with was something terrible.

"What the hell?! Why are the cabbages alive? Better yet, why are they flying?!"

I'm running away from a group of cabbages trying to ram into me.

"If you didn't cast an explosion on the first cabbage you saw, we wouldn't be in this situation!"

As soon as Megumin saw one cabbage, she blew it to hell, but that just alerted all the other cabbages in the surrounding area.

"Explosion magic is worthless! It sucks you retard mage! Learn some other magic already!"

"You dare say my magic is worthless?!"

"You and your magic are both worthless!"

"All right then, as soon as I get enough mana to stand, I'll kick your ass!"

Just ignore her Kazuma; How can you take out these cabbages?

I turn around and start to randomly swing my sword around.

I slashed up most of the cabbages while the others missed me.

...I guess my luck is pretty good.

The remaining cabbages flew away after that.

"What the hell…"

I go over to collect the slashed up cabbages.

Besides being alive and able to fly, they were in fact normal cabbages.

"Right that's everything; Time to go home."

"Hey! Don't ignore me!"

Part 2

"Ah, that's an amazing batch of cabbages! Thank you very much."

After dealing with the cabbages, I was given the quest reward.

Today I made quite a bit of money.

I guess flying cabbages are a high demand or something.

"Kazuma, Kazuma! Can I get Vicious Bear Steak?! It sounds amazing!"

I guess we could splurge a bit…

"Yeah, yeah you can get it."

"Waitress-san, can I get a Vicious Bear Steak with a Crimson Beer?"

"Oi! I didn't say you could get anything like that!"

"Kazuma I'm old enough to drink! Waitress-san, please don't forget my beer!"

"Waitress-san, do not get her a beer!"

…

"I can't believe i got apple juice…"

"You'll be okay."

"I'm more upset you took my beer!"

When the waitress brought Megumin's beer I snagged it from her and gave her my apple juice.

"I deserve this beer. Besides, you blew up a lot of cabbages, which made us lose potential money."

"It was worth it for the amount of experience points."

Experience points…

I took out my Adventurer card and looked at my level.

I'm level four now and all my stats have gone up a little bit.

I also have four skill points.

"Ah, Megumin I need to start learning…!"

Megumin took my beer while I wasn't looking and started gulping it down.

"You brat! Stop!"

…

Megumin was pouting as I explained that I need to start learning skills.

"Hmph, the only worthwhile skill to learn is Explosion magic."

"I'd rather not become useless like you."

Megumin suddenly pounced on me and started beating on me.

"Help! Help The loli is trying to kill me!"

"I am not a loli!"

…

Megumin headed to the stables for the day while I stayed at the guild.

I need someone to teach me some skills

I approached a mage and asked if she would be willing to teach me any magic.

"Ah, sure thing! You have the adventurer class? It might not be that useful but I'll teach you Beginner Magic for a small fee."

After she showed me the spells, 'Beginner Magic" showed up under learnable skills

I learned magic!

I rushed back to the stables to show Megumin my magic.

"Megumin, guess what!"

"Hm? Did you learn some skills?"

Megumin was sitting down and holding a black kitten.

"Oi, who's this little guy."

"This is Chomusuke. She is my familiar."

...What a weird name.

"Anyways, did you learn any skills?"

She put the cat down and stood up.

"Yep. I learned Beginner Magic."

"Ah, really? Well let's see what you can do."

We went outside the stables and set up some cans to use as targets.

"All right, this one sounds cool, Wind Breath!"

A small gust of wind came out of my hand and shook the can.

...What?

"Kazuma, you weren't even able to knock the can over."

"...Ok next one."

What the hell was that...

"All right, this one sounds promising. Tinder!"

A small flame came out of my hand and hit the can.

The can had a tiny burn mark on it.

"Ah, Kazuma you could use that to cook or set up fires."

"But...but could that hurt a monster?"

"Let's just look at your other spells Kazuma."

Megumin was holding back laughter.

I pointed my hand towards her.

"Freeze."

An icy spell came out of my hand.

"Ah! K-Kazuma that's so cold! S-Stop get away from me."

"Ok, this one seems pretty useful."

"Please don't use your spells on me…"

"Create Earth."

A small pile of dirt and soil built up in my palm.

I pondered for a bit…

"Hey Kazuma, what could you do with a pile of dirt?"

"Wind Breath."

"My eyes! W-What the hell is wrong with you! ...AH! I can't see!"

I blew the dirt into Megumin's eyes.

Good, I have a way to blind people.

"K-Kazuma! Do you have any water? I need to get this out my eyes!"

Ah, time to use my last spell.

"Create Water."

I shot water from my palm.

Megumin was now drenched.

Megumin's clothes were sticking to her skin now…

"Ah, Megumin has a nice hourglass-figure."

"All right. I'll teach you a lesson right now. My stats have increased since defeating those cabbages, so let's see who can win in a fist fight."

"Oi, I'm not afraid to hit a girl. I believe in true gender-"

Before I could finish, I got punched square in the face.

Part 3

We headed to the guild early this morning

Everyone at the guild looked really tense today for some reason.

"Oi, Megumin. You know what's up with everyone today?"

"I'm not sure…"

I walked up to one of the adventures to ask them.

"Excuse me, do you know why everyone is so tensed up today?"

"Hm? Oh, it's you shrimp. Everyone is getting ready for the subjugation of the greater devil in the forest."

Greater devil…? What the hell is that?

"Kazuma, Kazuma."

Megumin pulled on my sleeve.

"There's been a sighting of a greater devil in the forest lately, so these people are forming a large group to go defeat it."

"Ah, interesting… Well let's go look at some quest for today."

"Hold it Kazuma! Don't you think we should help them?"

I turn around and look at the large group. There's a ton of people with them and the guy in front looks really strong.

Actually… the guy in front is staring at me weird...

"Hey Kazuma, why is that guy staring at you?"

"I'm not sure. Hey, he might be one of those guys that says something like, 'Hey remember me? It's me! Your good friend,' and then he'll try to scam us."

"I wasn't aware there was such a way of scamming people."

The strong looking man suddenly started approaching me.

"Hello, are you perhaps… from Japan?"

"!?"

Me and Megumin were in shock after he said that.

"W-What? Wait. Are you perhaps a reincarnate too?"

The strong man smiled.

"That's right. I'm Mitsurugi, Mitsurugi Kyouya, nice to meet you."

"Kazuma! It's exactly like the scam you were explaining!"

"W-What?"

…

"...And so the bitch of a goddess didn't give me any cheats like your cursed sword Gram."

"Goddess-sama did that…"

While me and Mitsurugi were talking, Megumin went over to his female companions to chat.

"I...I refuse to believe goddess-sama did that!"

This guy suddenly stood up and banged on the table we were at.

"Eh? But she did. She made fun of my death so I called her a ugly bitch who sat on her ass all day."

While I might've been crude, that goddess didn't deserve any respect from me.

"How could you say that? No wonder you got sent here with nothing! You deserve all this for your disrespect to goddess-sama!"

He grabbed my collar and formed a fist with his other hand.

"Hey! That hurts you ass!"

"Oi! What are you doing to my companion?"

Megumin came over after seeing the commotion this idiot was causing.

"Create earth."

"This man was ridiculing-"

"Wind breath."

"Ah! My eyes!"

Using my first combo skill I learned yesterday, I blinded the idiot and got out of his grasp.

This guy seems to be licking the feet of that awful goddess I met. I'd rather not get involved with him.

"How could you do that to Mitsurugi-sama?!"

"Mitsurgi! Are you okay?!"

His two girl companions rushed to the guy's side. One was a beauty with a long spear that seemed to be the warrior type, and the other was a pretty girl wearing leather armor with a dagger on her waist.

"Right, Let's go pick a quest Megumin. This guy seems more than capable to take out that devil or whatever."

"Hold it Satou Kazuma!"

I turned around with an annoyed look.

Mitsurugi was flaming mad, but his two companions seemed even angrier.

"I will not let you put disrespect on goddess-sama's name."

"Hey Kazuma, I think this guy might be an axis cultist with how obsessed he seems with this goddess he keeps talking about."

I don't know what an 'axis cult' is, but this guy definitely respects that goddess too much.

"I have an idea. How about we have a duel to see-"

"No thank you, please leave me alone."

I saw that coming, but I doubt he'll take no for an answer.

"Mitsurugi-sama, forget about this guy. We have other things to worry about."

"Y-yeah! You have that greater devil to deal with!"

Oh yeah, this guy was leading the group of adventurers to the greater devil.

"Tsk! We'll settle this another day Satou Kazuma."

Mitsurugi led the subjugation squad out of the guild.

...What a troublesome guy.

He looks like a cliché manga protagonist. I hope I never meet him again.

"Ok Megumin, let's pick a quest for today"

Part 4

"All right Megumin, you can probably blow all of them away here."

Me and Megumin have been hiking through the mountains for another goblin subjugation quest.

"All right, leave it to me!"

As Megumin chanted her explosion magic, I noticed something peculiar near the goblin's base.

"Oi, there's one of those black beasts that tried to kill us."

"W-what? Oh, a Rookie Killer."

It was fast asleep.

"Hey Megumin, you think if I defeated it I would gain a lot-"

"Explosion!"

…

"Two lizard steaks and crimson beers please."

Megumin and I completed the quest today with a hefty reward. We decided to celebrate with a couple beers.

"Hey Megumin, why couldn't you let me try to take out the rookie killer? I'm sure I would've raised like, ten levels."

"I doubt you could've even taken it out with your low stats, and besides, the shockwave knocked a couple goblins unconscious so you were able to take down a few."

True, I did gain another 3 levels today thanks to that.

As I was thinking of what to do with my skill points, a large group of people entered the guild.

...It was the devil subjugation group.

The looks on their made it seem like it didn't go well.

As a matter of fact, that annoying guy from earlier is missing…

The busty receptionist approached the group and asked them how it went.

"It...it didn't go well. The devil got the jump on us and knocked out Mitsurugi-san. We took him to the Eris Church to get healed, but he probably won't be back anytime soon."

So that devil thing is still here?

Well it's not really my problem, so we probably shouldn't worry about it.

"Kazuma, we should try to apprehend the devil."

I unintentionally raised a dangerous flag…

"I'm not going out there to kill some final boss level threat."

"B-but Kazuma, I think I know why that devil is here…"

Eh?

…

"So, that black cat you have is responsible for all of this?"

Megumin told me about how she was hunted by a devil named Arnes who tried to take Chomusuke.

"Yes, she wanted to take Chomusuke for some reason; I expect that devil in the forest wants Chomusuke as well."

This girl has gotten involved with a lot of troublesome things…

"I still don't think we should try to take this thing on. I mean, could your explosion magic take it out in one hit?"

"I...I don't know. Maybe the Capital will send in some reinforcements to take care of it."

"Ah, I'm sorry to say, but that isn't possible."

The busty receptionist came over and intruded our conversation.

She must've been overhearing us.

"We were told that the Capital can't send in any troops because the Demon King General Sylvia has been moving her troops around, so their attention has been taken up by that."

Sylvia? Demon King General? What the hell was that?

"Busty Receptionist-san, what is this town going to do then?"

"My name is Luna, and I think our only hope is to form another subjugation group or find a powerful priest."

"Powerful… priest…"

Megumin was muttering something about a priest.

"Megumin-san, do you know where a powerful priest would be?"

"Ah, er.. n-no I... "

Luna looked at Megumin with expectant eyes with her hands clasped together.

"Y-yeah, I might know of one."

"Really? Where is he?"

"Alcanretia."

"Nevermind sorry for bothering you."

Luna walked away from the table back to the front desk.

What just happened?

"H-hey what's going on? Who's Slyvia? Who's Alcanretia?"

"Alcanretia is the city of hot springs. There's a powerful priest there who might be able to help us, but he's the head of the Axis Cult."

Hot springs? Everytime I ask a question, I just get left even more confused…

"Well, if we had a priest, would we be able to take out this devil?"

"Y-yes it would be much easier."

Taking out this devil seems like an impossible challenge…

...But if we go to Alcanretina we can get this priest guy to handle it… wait.

"Did you say Alcanretina was the city of hot springs?"

"Yes."

"We're going."
