"Quiet people have the loudest minds." -Stephen King

Twenty-six year old Brielle Stevens walked into Quantico. She was scared and nervous and it showed on her face. As did the three day old healing bruises.

"JJ, who's that?" Spencer whispered as Aaron walked over to greet the newcomer.

Jennifer gave a shrug, "I don't know her name, but she's the new profiler."

"Oh. She's Emily's replacement?" Spencer stated. It had only been a week since Emily's funeral.

Jennifer gave a nod, "Yeah."

"She looks scared." Spencer said

"I'm sure she's just nervous since it's her first day." Jennifer replied

Spencer just nodded, "Okay, but what about the bruises around her eyes?"

"I don't know, Spence." Jennifer responded

"Everyone, this is Agent Brielle Stevens. And Stevens, these people are Agents David Rossi, Derek Morgan, Jennifer Jareau, and Dr. Spencer Reid." Aaron announced

The Agents smiled and waved at Brielle, who waved back with a timid smile. The only thought going through her head was 'Don't speak unless permission is given'.

Penelope stepped out of the meeting room, "Sir, I'm ready to present the case."

"Okay. Thanks, Garcia." Aaron thanked her before starting up the steps.

David, Derek, and Spencer followed after Aaron up the stairs toward the meeting room, but Jennifer held back a little so she could walk with Brielle.

"Welcome to the team." Jennifer said, "I'm Jennifer, but everyone on the team calls me JJ."

Brielle smiled softly and gave a small nod.

Jennifer furrowed her eyebrows, "You're allowed to speak, Brielle."

"Uh…it's nice to meet you, ma'am, but we should probably just get to work." Brielle stated before walking into the meeting room. Brielle sits down near where Penelope is standing. She doesn't want to sit next to one of the men.

'That was odd.' Jennifer thought, 'She's a little….not strange, but…almost like scared and like what she was saying was a tad rehearsed. Not word for word, obviously. And not rehearsed, but more like trained.' Jennifer shakes the thought away and then sits down at the table in the meeting room and listens as Penelope starts talking about the case.

"So last year forty-three year old Tony and forty-five year old Amy Ellison were found dead in their bed. They left behind four kids: an eleven year old daughter, an eight year old daughter, and a five year old son. Their twelve year old foster daughter was missing and it was assumed that she killed them, but the police couldn't find enough evidence." Penelope explained, "One month ago a police officer was found stabbed in the chest with a pocket knife in his police station near the holding cells. The witnesses, who were in the two holding cells said that the officer killed himself, so his death was ruled as a suicide."

"How are these cases related?" Spencer wondered

"One of the inmates in the holding cell was Tony and Amy Ellison's foster daughter." Penelope stated, "A week ago she returned to her biological family. This girl was Evelyn Adams, the little girl who was kidnapped from her backyard ten years ago. Her kidnapper was found when she was nine, but the little girl found in his home said she was Mollianne Harris and that he was her papa. The police didn't think she was Evelyn so she was placed into foster care." Penelope said. Then she added, "Anyways, a week ago she was returned to her biological family and on the first night she and another kid who she claims is her adoptive brother poisoned three of the Adams' family's kids: twelve year old Beatrice, eleven year old Willa, and four year old Francesca. They also raped, sodomized, and beat the eleven year old."

"Oh my gosh. I hope they were arrested." Jennifer spoke

Penelope nodded, "They were. Two days ago they escaped from police custody and now Annie Adams is dead and her wife Leah Adams, Evelyn's biological mother is missing."

"Okay well let's head to San Diego, California." Aaron said, "Wheels up in twenty."

Brielle was the first one out of the meeting room. She wanted to get out and away from the men. She texted Mirabelle to tell her to pick up Kas and Holl from school. Then she grabbed her bag from her car and boarded the jet.

Once everyone was on the jet Aaron spoke and gave everyone their assignments on what to do when they land.

"When we land Stevens and JJ go to the Adams' home and talk to the couple's children. Dave, Reid, Morgan and I will head to the police station." Aaron said, "Okay?"

Most of the team replied with a nod and a 'Got it, sir' or an 'Okay', but not Brielle. Brielle just gave a nod. She was thankful that she hadn't been paired with one of the men, but she didn't feel that she was in a position where it was safe to 'talk back'. That's what her husband called it when she spoke without being directly spoken to or without permission.

Jennifer looked at Brielle and noticed that the young woman didn't seem alright.

"Are you okay?" Jennifer whispered to Brielle

Brielle nodded and whispered back, "Yeah. I'm fine."

As a profiler, Jennifer wasn't convinced but she didn't press any further.

An incoming video call came from Penelope on the computer and Derek answered.

"Hey baby girl, whatcha got for us?" Derek asked

"I regret to inform you that the body of Leah Adams was found in a back alleyway. They don't have a time of death yet." Penelope explained, "However, her eyes were gouged out and her heart was cut out of her chest. Those pieces of her were thrown into a dumpster about twenty feet from her body."

Derek nodded, "Thank you, baby girl." He ended the call.

"Those could be symbolic." Spencer said, "The unsub could feel like his own heart and eyes were ripped out. Metaphorically speaking."

Then Aaron spoke, "Okay Morgan and Reid, you two go to the crime scene when we land."

Brielle turned to Jennifer and whispered, "The bruises around my eyes. My husband gave them to me. That's why I'm afraid of men."

"I'm sorry." Jennifer apologized, "If you ever need to get away from him…"

Brielle shook her head, "These bruises are three days old. I ran away from him. And no one else can know this, but Brielle isn't my real name. I changed it so he wouldn't find me."

Jennifer gave a small nod, "I won't tell anyone. I promise."

Brielle gave a small smile, "Okay. Thank you."

"You're welcome." Jennifer responded

Once the jet landed Brielle let Jennifer head out in front of her and then she followed behind. She decided to let Jennifer drive and got into the passenger seat of the black SUV. Jennifer got into the driver seat and then started the drive to the Adams' family house.

"I…um…I don't know why I said what I did in the jet." Brielle stuttered, "I don't normally open up to people….well with the exception of my friend Mirabelle, but I've known her for ten years. She's practically family."

Jennifer shook her head, "It's okay. I'm glad you told me. Your secret is safe with me. I won't tell a soul, but Garcia might find out. She likes to run her own background checks on new agents."

Brielle nodded as she gave a breathy sigh, "Okay."

"And between you and me, it's nice to have another woman agent." Jennifer admitted, "One of our agents Emily Prentiss, she…we lost her. She died. We buried her a week ago."

Brielle gave a soft smile, "I'm so sorry. I'm glad to be working here though."

Meanwhile in the other black SUV with Derek and Spencer, who are headed to the crime scene where Leah Adams' body was found.

"Is it just me or does it seem like Brielle is avoiding us men? She is staying kind of close to JJ and she hasn't talked much or looked any of us in the eye except for when Hotch was talking." Derek said

Spencer shrugged, "She could just be shy or nervous. It is her first day, Morgan."

"Yeah. I guess." Derek agreed. Then he added, "But it seems like more than that."

Back with Brielle and Jennifer when they arrive at the Adams' house. Jennifer parks the car at the curb. The two agents get out of the car, walk up to the front door, and then knock. The door is answered by a teenage boy, who is holding a little girl about three or four.

"Hi I'm Agent Jennifer Jareau and this is Agent Brielle Stevens." Jennifer introduced

The boy nodded, "Nice to meet you. I'm Holden and this is my sister Francesca.

"Are you going to find my mommies?" Francesca asked

"We're going to try. I can promise you that." Brielle assured the little girl. She didn't want to tell the little girl that both of her moms were already dead. It seemed that the little girl didn't know.

Holden set Francesca on the ground, "Frankie, go find Bee and Willa." Francesca nodded and then ran off to find her sisters.

"What can I help you with?" Holden wondered

"What can you tell us about Evelyn Adams and Ryder Greene?" Brielle questioned

Holden shook his head, "Ryder seemed cold and heartless. Like a psychopath or a sociopath. He and Evelyn were always whispering to each other. Evelyn just seemed mad all the time. She constantly asked my moms if she could visit her papa in the San Diego state prison. I believe his name is Jonathon Harris."

"Okay thank you." Jennifer replied, "That's a big help. We'll let you know if we have any more questions."

"We're sorry for your loss." Brielle added

Holden gave a sad smile, "Thank you. That means a lot. Please find my mom Leah before anything happens to her like with my mom Annie."

"Um…about that. Do you have any family that can take you and your siblings in?" Jennifer asked him

"I'm eighteen. What's going on?" Holden wondered

Jennifer took a breath, "There's no easy way to say this, but the police already found Leah. They found her body. I'm so sorry."

Holden gave a solemn nod, "Oh."

"We're truly sorry." Brielle apologized

Meanwhile at the crime scene of Leah Adams with Derek and Spencer, they are examining the body.

"She bled out. Her eyes and heart were removed pre-mortem." An officer said, "She has thirty stab wounds."

"Torture and overkill. The unsub was angry with this person." Derek stated

Spencer examined the stab wounds more closely, "I think they might be two unsubs."

"What makes you say that?" Derek asked

"Do you see the wounds? See how some are jagged indicating hesitation and the others are clean and precise." Spencer explained, "One of the unsubs hasn't stabbed anyone before. The other appears to have done it before."

Derek nodded, "I see. Okay let's get back to the team."

On the way to the police station, Derek called Aaron and gave him the new information. Aaron thanked him and then ended the call.

Back at the police station with Aaron, Brielle, Jennifer, and David.

"In light of this new information, our best leads are thirteen year old Evelyn Adams and fourteen year old Ryder Greene." Aaron stated as he dialed Penelope's number

Penelope answered, "Hello. How can my services be of assistance to you?"

"Garcia, we need you to look into Evelyn Adams and Ryder Greene. Dig up everything you can find on them." David said

"Copy that, sir. I will dig my way down the rabbit hole to wonderland, find out everything I can, and then get back to you forthwith. If I can crawl my way back out, I'll get it to you. If not, I'll send it to you in a balloon." Penelope replied. Then she hung up.

'Is she always that strange?' Brielle thought

After catching the unsubs and seeing that they were no more than children, the whole BAU team felt a little defeated the by evil in the world. Not because the unsubs were only thirteen and fourteen years old, but because of how badly they had been hurt and betrayed by those that were supposed to love them.
