Weiss woke to her alarm at 6:30AM as she usually does. Although there was one major difference about this specific Friday. She had a date with Juane Arc. Never in her wildest dreams did she ever imagine this turn of events. She smiled thinking back to how he asked her like a proper "knight". Their date would commence this evening soon after classes end for the day. She was a bit nervous. This was her first real date after all, but she would do everything in her power to make sure it goes off without a hitch. She looked around at her teammates as the still slept. She remembered the conversation they had the days prior when everything first happened. They were very supportive. Even Yang kept her teasing in check. She smiled once more as she prepared herself as usual until it was time for breakfast.
Juane was awoken by Nora as he usually was, but even her early morning antics wouldn't stop him from feeling the best he ever has. He finally had a date with Weiss Schnee and he could barely contain his excitement. He wished he could just skip classes altogether today just so he could prepare and made sure everything was perfect for her. Alas, his grades weren't the best and he couldn't afford to let them slip further. So he resigned himself to attend as normal. He looked over his teammates who were busy doing their own preparations for the day. He remembered back to a few days ago and the conversation he had with them about what happened. They were all supportive of him. Although, if he wasn't mistaken, he thought he sensed sadness coming from Pyrrha as they talked. He asked her what was wrong, but she assured him it was nothing. He let it go at that. He finished his preparations for the day as well and made his way to the cafeteria with the rest of his team.
To Weiss, it seemed the day had dragged on forever, but the wait was finally almost over. She was with her team back in their dorm room preparing for the date.
"Weiss was pacing back and forth with a worried expression, "I can't believe I'm so nervous. ME! Weiss Schnee doesn't get nervous, yet here I am pacing around like a madwoman!"
"Weiss, we've been over this. You're going to be fine. Everyone has butterflies on their first date." Yang assured her.
"Butterflies don't even come close to what I'm feeling right now!" She retorted.
"It's just Jaune, Weiss. He's a big goofball, you don't have anything to worry about!" Ruby chimed in while sitting on top of her bunk bed.
"It's because it's Jaune that I'm this nervous! I was so horrible to him and I want to make it right! I want to make sure it's perfect!"
"Weiss, there's no such thing as the perfect date. Sometimes, things that you can't account for happen. It's all natural, so the less you try to make it perfect, the calmer you'll be." Blake said, offering her profound wisdom.
"You mean to tell me you've been on dates before, Blake." Weiss asked, raising an eyebrow.
Blake looked away, "I guess you could call them that." She vaguely responded.
That just left Weiss more confused, but she didn't pay it much mind. "Regardless, I can't but want it to be perfect. I'm a perfectionist after all."
"Well then, try focusing on being unperfect perfectly!" Ruby suggested with a big smile.
"Only you would be able to make sense of the nonsense that just exited your mouth." Weiss quipped.
"I dunno, it kinda made sense to me." Yang said crossing her arms and pondering.
"And that's what proves that you two are sisters." Weiss deadpanned.
Yang her a big grin, "And I wouldn't have it any other way!"
"Me either!" Ruby joined.
"But enough about that, let's focus on that dress!" Yang said giving an approving smirk and whistle.
Weiss blushed a bit and looked away embarrassed. She was wearing a long dress that reached to about her ankles on one side. The other side parted about three quarters of the way down. The dress was a light blue gradient color that started off sky blue and added a white hue as it went down. The blue started from the chest down, while the top and arms were a dark grey piece that collared around her neck and a teal broach in between the collar. The dress was topped off with a pair of dark grey heals that matched the top portion of the dress.
"Does Jaune even have enough Lien to take you to some fancy restaurant?" Yang spoke once more.
"Well, apparently he said we're not going somewhere inherently fancy, but he did tell me to dress nice." Weiss admitted.
"Uh Weiss, you look more than nice. That looks like something you'd wear to a wedding reception or something." Yang commented.
Weiss blushed again. "I-it was all I had aside from my combat skirt or other casual outfits! I didn't pack anything planning to go on any dates!"
"We had three days to go into Vale to pick something out for you. Why didn't you say anything sooner!"
"It just didn't cross my mind, ok!?"
"Girls, girls please! No fighting!" Ruby squeaked from on high.
She jumped down from the bed and stood in between them to defuse the situation before it escalated any further. "What matters is that you look beautiful, Weiss! I'm sure it'll work out just fine! Anyway do you have everything? Jaune'll be here any minute to pick you up!"
"I think so. I don't need much. Just my purse really."
At that, they heard a knock at the door. Weiss jumped a bit in surprise. Yang spoke up.
"Well, don't keep the guy waiting! Open the door!" She said, giving a little push.
"H-hey, don't push me!"
Weiss turned towards the door and gave out a large sigh. Her expression turned to one of determination and she reached to open the door. When she did, she was stunned to see a handsome looking Jaune Arc standing in the doorway. He wore a light yellow dress shirt with a dark grey vest with gold buttons and pants with black shoes. He also wore a red tie and his hair wasn't like the usually messy style that it normally was. It was still parted to one side, but it was all nice and neat. Weiss was speechless at how good he looked. To be fair, Jaune was just as speechless at how beautiful she looked. He didn't think it was possible for her to be more beautiful than she already was, but she somehow kept proving him wrong.
"Are you two just gonna stand there gawking at each other?" Yang asked, breaking their concentration on one another.
"Uh sorry!" He said rubbing the back of his neck. "Oh, here, this is for you, Weiss."
Jaune pulled a single white rose from behind his back and handed it to her. Weiss took it graciously and smelled it. It was wonderful.
"Thank you, Jaune, it's lovely." She said smiling at him.
"A white rose? Why not a red one?" Ruby asked.
"Because he probably wants her to think of him instead of you whenever she looks at it." Blake responded.
"Oh, heh heh, guess that makes sense." The red clad girl chuckled nervously.
"I deal with you on a daily basis. I don't need extra reminders of you. It would just give me a headache." Weiss added.
"Wow, mean." Was all Ruby said. But she knew it was in good taste.
"Gotta say though, Jaune. You're looking pretty good in that outfit!" Yang said giving him a once over with a wry smirk. "Careful, Weiss, I may steal him from you one of these days."
Weiss shot her an icy glare that would make most beg for forgiveness at their offense, but Yang wasn't fazed. Her smirk only grew wider. Jaune's blushed and looked anywhere but at the girls. Weiss walked over to Ruby and handed her the rose and then walked back towards Jaune. She grabbed his hand and started marching out the door.
"Come on, Jaune, let's go." She said as calmly as she could.
"O-ok." He didn't dare say anything else.
At that, she slammed the door shut, leaving the rest of team RWBY to their own devices.
"That was in poor taste, Yang." Blake scolded.
"Yeah, poor taste." Ruby repeated.
"Oh come on, I was joking. I would never do that to her." Yang defended.
Jane and Weiss hopped on the first bullhead to Vale. It was a peaceful ride. Jaune had taken some anti-motion sickness medicine before the flight, so he was able to keep it together so that he wouldn't continue his legacy as Vomit Boy. That would have been an especially bad impression on his first date with the girl of his dreams. Once they landed, Jaune led the way from there. Citing that the restaurant they were looking for was closer to the outer portion of the city, so it wasn't far. They chatted casually along the way. Jaune made another comment on how lovely Weiss looked in her dress and Weiss mentioned that he cleaned up nicely. Asking where he got such an outfit, he divulged that his entire team took him into Vale the day prior to find him outfit for tonight. After a short time, they finally reached their destination.
"Welp, here we are!" He pointed out.
They were standing in front of a two story restaurant that didn't look particularly fancy, but it seemed the patrons were dressed to a higher degree than most casual restaurants. Still, she felt that their attire was a bit more on the higher end side than everyone else. The name of the restaurant was "The Skyline View." Which seemed odd to her because it didn't seem to have anything to do with the sky. Before she could think on it further, Jaune led them inside. They were greeted by the hostess.
"Good evening! Table for two?" The lady asked.
"Yes, the reservation should be under Arc." He replied.
"Arc…Arc…ah! Here you are!" Finding his name on the reservation chart. "Please, follow me!"
They compiled and followed her up a set of stairs to the 2nd floor. Weiss was confused when she found herself climbing another set of stairs to what seemed to be the roof. As they exited the doorway, she then understood why it was called "The Skyline View.". As she looked out towards the city, she saw the most beautiful view of Vale she could ever have imagined. The sun was beginning to set and it cast a radiant glow across the entire city. It took her breath away. She was only brought back to reality as the hostess guided them to their seats.
"Here you are! I'll have your waiter come right up for you! Oh and Mr. Arc? As you requested, the entire upper patio is yours for the next 2 hours."
"Wh-wai-excuse me!? The entire upper patio!?" Weiss stammered in genuine shock.
"That's right! Mr. Arc reserved the entire area for the two of you for a two hour time period. Did he not tell you?"
Weiss looked over to Jaune dumbfounded and seeking answers. He rubbed the back of his neck.
"Heh heh…surprise?" He said with a nervous smile.
The hostess seated them and left them with a couple menus. She bowed and made her way back downstairs. Once they were left alone, Weiss leaned forward and whispered. Although she didn't know why. There was no one else around. The blonde boy made sure of that.
"Can you…can you afford this?" She asked.
"It may not seem like it, but I'm not poor, Weiss." He chuckled as he said that.
"I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to imply-"
"Really, it's ok."
To say that she was impressed was an understatement. They were alone for the next two hours with such a beautiful view of the city. She found it to be highly romantic.
"How did you find this place?" She asked.
"Well, honestly, I've been looking at all different types of places for a while now on the off chance that you finally accepted one of my date proposals. I read about this place online and there was nothing but rave reviews about the view, so I thought this would be a great place to take you."
For once, she was glad for his over enthusiastic crush on her if it led him to finding a place like this.
"But a place like this must have reservations set for months from now! How did you manage to get a spot so quickly?!"
"Well, I don't know if my semblance is luck based or not, but they had a rare cancellation and I didn't hesitate to pick it up. I really called on a whim not expecting to actually be able to get a spot."
At that, their waiter arrived to take their orders. "Good evening! My name is Sora and I will be your server tonight. Have we had a chance to look over the menu yet?"
Weiss panicked. "Oh no! I'm so sorry, I haven't had a chance yet!"
Sora chuckled, "That's quite alright, miss. If you need a few more moments, I could take your drink orders first.
Weiss smiled sheepishly, "Yes please." She said quietly. "I'll just have water."
"The same for me, Sora." Jaune said.
"Alright, two waters it is."
Luckily, He had already brought a pitcher of water and two glasses with him. He filled them up and left the pitcher on the table so they could refill whenever they wished.
"One moment, Sora." Jaune said. He turned to face Weiss. "Do you like Calamari?" He asked.
"Oh! I love it!" She replied excitedly. "I've had it many times back in Atlas.
"Perfect! Sora, could we order a Calamari appetizer?"
"Certainly! I'll go put the order in and I'll be back soon to see what you'd like for your entrees."
He bowed and walked back down to the main part of the restaurant. They sat their in silence for a few moments. Jaune was taking sips of his water and was looking out at the view. His smile topped off the perfect image in Weiss' mind. The glow of the sunset was making it look like he was glowing as well. She was mesmerized once more. Jaune noticed her staring.
"Hmm? Something wrong, Weiss?"
"Huh!? Oh, no, nothing!" She said as she looked away in embarrassment for being caught.
Jaune smiled at her. "If you say so."
"I have to hand it to you though. This is a lot more romantic than I thought you were capable of."
He laughed. "Well, when you grow up with seven sisters, you watch a lot of romance movies and pick up on a thing or two."
"Oh right, you mentioned that the other day. Do you have any brothers?"
"Nope, I'm the only boy in the family. Well, aside from my dad obviously."
"I can't imagine what it's like. Are they all older than you? Younger?"
"I'm somewhat in the middle of the pack."
"Still, it's an impressive number. Your family must be more well off than you let on if they're able to support that many children."
"You could say that. We're actually pretty famous, so that helps when it comes to finances. My father is a huntsman, so he picks up jobs whenever they're offered to him. And that's a lot."
"Your family name….wait…Arc…as in THE Arc family?! The one from the stories of the Great War?!"
"That's the one. That statue in Beacon's courtyard? One of the people depicted is my great great grandfather."
"I-I had no idea! I can't believe I never connect the dots! I mean, Arc isn't even a common name in Remnant!"
"Well, to be fair, I didn't know who the Schnees were either until Pyrrha told me after initiation."
"Touche." She said chuckling.
"That's the reason I'm here at Beacon. I want to be a great hero. I want to live up to my family name. But…well, let's just say that if great great grandpa Arc saw me now, he'd probably be really disappointed. I mean, even my parents told me that it was ok if I didn't make it through school. That there would be a place for me to come back to if I had to. It…it hurt that they didn't have faith in me. But so far, I haven't done a good job at proving them wrong about me."
Jaune was a little surprised when Weiss laid her hand on his. He looked at her to see an expression that seem to understand him completely.
"Jaune, if there's anyone on Remnant who can relate to you in that sense, it's me. My whole life, I've been raised an expected to be something great. I'm the heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, so lofty expectations were forced on me when I was really young. I know what it's like to feel inadequate in the face of your family legacy. To want to prove yourself and to everyone that you can be something or someone great. That's why I came to Beacon instead of enrolling in Atlas Academy. I wanted to prove that I could make something of myself by myself and that I lived in no one's shadow."
"Weiss, I-."
"And another thing. You may not be there yet, but you're still young, Jaune. You have a hidden talent within you that's sure to burst forth. Pyrrha sees it in you too. The four time Mistral tournament champion sees potential in you. And so do I. You may not think you've improved, but we've all seen the progress you've been making. You just need to have patience with yourself. And I'll help you too. Pyrrha and I can take turns training you. It will be good for you to learn multiple fighting styles."
Jaune couldn't help the giant smile that was making its way onto his face. The most beautiful girl in his eyes was giving him encouragement and she knew exactly what he was going though. He felt so relieved to have someone like her on his side. Hopefully, by his side for a long time to come.
"Thank you, Weiss. I would be honored to have your help. And I'm sure Pyrrha could use a break too. She spends a lot of her free time helping me, so I always feel bad."
Weiss stroked Jaune's hand with her thumb and smiled at him. She didn't say anything else and they sat in silence until Sora came back with their appetizer and to take the rest of their order. They still hadn't looked at the menu, so they both felt terrible. But at a quick glance, Jaune decided to have the Filet Mignon. Weiss decided on the Salmon. As the night progresses and it got darker, the view of Vale still looked amazing as it lit up with the street lights and the lights of all the buildings. The food was delicious and they enjoyed casual conversation as they got to know each other better. Weiss told him more about her family, Jaune shared stories of his childhood and how his sisters would dress him up and braid his hair. Weiss got a good laugh out of those stories. Soon, it was time for their night to come to a close as Sora came back with their check.
"I take it from your empty plates that everything was to your liking?"
"Oh absolutely! Everything was simply wonderful!" Weiss commented.
"Yeah, it was great! Thanks so much!" Jaune added.
"It was our pleasure to serve you! I've prepared the check for you. Will you be needing anything else?"
"No, that should do it. Let me just go ahead and slip my card in heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-"
Jaune let out a soft squeal as he looked at the check. All the color in his face disappeared in an instant. Weiss looked worried.
"Jaune, are you ok? What's wrong?"
"Oh yeah, totally great! Nothing wrong here!" He said as he gave the check back to Sora with his card.
Sora bowed and walked off to charge his card and bring him the receipt. Jaune still looked like he was going to be sick. Weiss also thought she may have heard him say something about his parents going to murder him under his breath.
"Jaune…how much was the check?"
"Hmm? What check?! There's no check! I don't know what you're talking about!"
"Jaune…" She looked at him sternly.
He gulped, "2-2,500 Lien."
"Oh, is that all? You were making it sound much worse."
Jaune was dumbfounded. "Wh-WHAT?! IS THAT ALL?! You make it sound like it's pocket change!"
"Isn't it?" Weiss asked, tilting her head to the side.
"NO! IT MOST CERTAINLY ISN'T!" Jaune pinched the bridge of his nose. "Look, Weiss. I know that my family is pretty well off too, but there's such a thing called being frugal. The reason my family lives in a home instead of a mansion is because we don't find a need for such material things. And my parents always taught us not to go spending money like it's a toy. For some people, this kind of Lien is what they see in maybe two months of work."
"Oh my…" She said with concern.
"So you can see why I reacted the way I did."
"I suppose so."
Sora returned with the receipt. Jaune decided to archive the conversation for another time. He signed for it and left a generous enough tip. They said their goodbyes to him and the hostess and left to travel back to Beacon. Despite their conversation on money at the end, they both had a great time. They talked on the way back to the bullhead and flew back without incident. As they approached their dorm rooms, Weiss felt sad. She didn't want this night to end. She had such a wonderful time on her first date. The girls were right. She had nothing to worry about. It didn't have to be perfect. It was wonderful the way it happened. Jaune was such a gentleman and didn't make her feel silly or uncomfortable. It was such a romantic evening that she longed for more like it.
"Jaune, thank you for such a lovely evening. I had a great time." She said as she smiled up at him.
"It was my pleasure. I had a great time too. I…hope we can…do this again sometime?" He asked.
Weiss giggled at how cute he sounded when he asked that. "I would love that, Jaune. I look forward to it."
Jaune gave her one of his trademark goofy grins that she had been growing fond of recently. "Great! Can't wait!"
"Neither can I." She said smiling back at him.
It was time. They stood equidistant between their respective dorm rooms. The night they didn't want to end had unfortunately reached its conclusion. They embraced in a brief hug and Jaune had turned to walk towards his door. He was stopped just short by Weiss grabbing the cuff of his sleeve. He turned his head in confusion.
"Weiss? What's wro-"
As he turned around, Weiss stood on her toes and gave him a kiss on the cheek. It wasn't a brief peck either. She lingered for a couple of seconds. But to Jaune, it felt much longer. Like time had stopped completely until she finally broke away. She was blushing furiously and looked rather embarrassed.
"Go-goodnight, Jaune!" She stuttered.
She turned around and ran into her room, leaving Jaune there alone to process what had just happened. He raised his had to his cheek. He could still feel the sensation of her kiss. It was his turn to blush, but he had the biggest smile on his face. Both of them told their teammates of their evenings events. Gossip between them carried into the night until sleep finally overtook them. Each feeling like this was just the beginning of something much greater.
End
AN: That's a wrap for this story! I hope you all enjoyed the ride as much as I did writing it! This story came to me from a dream I had a few nights back and I was lucky enough to remember the details. Let me know your thoughts and where you think I can improve! Depending on reactions and reviews, I'm thinking about maybe writing a longer story with this pairing. Still hashing out the details, but if the people crave more, I'm happy to give it to them! Thank you all again and I look forward to producing more work soon! CYA!
