Chapter One

Kagome sighed as she gently put down the photo of her family and herself. Souta, her mother, grandfather and herself were smiling in the photo in front of the shrine. It was one of the picture she cherished most. It has been five months since her family passed in a plane crash to visit family in America. Three months since she had to sell the shrine since she couldn't afford to keep it going by herself and couldn't pay someone to help. Two months since she got into a fight at Taiko High and got kicked out.

She had gotten kicked out defending Yuka from her asshole of a boyfriend for it to turn on her for doing so. Since the Hinaru family were an upper class family, they got her expelled from school. Kagome hadn't been able to find a new school to take her in since. She had been pretty much blacklisted. She had only given the guy a broken nose...nothing too serious. He had hit Yuka and she came to her friend's defence. The guy called her a Hafu. Saying she should have joined her family when the plane went down since no one wants one of her kind around.

Kagome hadn't taken kindy to this response and hit him straight on. Yuka still hadn't forgiven her for doing so...and she ended up losing that friendship along with her other ones she had at that school.

It hurt more that her friends turned out to not be as good friends as she thought they would be. Leaving her alone and not wanting the friendship anymore because of who his family was. They didn't want to take chances and didn't want anything to happen to them.

Now Kagome lived in a bad part of town, in a semi okay apartment as she tried to find a school to take her. She had even been trying to find a job but so far she hadn't had any luck. With the money she got from life insurance she did have money, but she needed to make it last for rent and food. She didn't know how long she wouldn't be able to find a job or a school to take her.

Kagome wished the well was still open. She could have gone to the past and lived there. There wasn't much here in Japan for her. She had no friends and now she had no family. The well closed a year ago with the defeat of Naraku. She got to say her goodbyes and the jewel was wished out of existence, with her thrown back into the future.

"I miss you all." Kagome sighed softly into the small apartment. She took a deep breath and looked at the clock on the wall. It was almost six at night. She had wanted to go and get some food at the Seven Eleven. They were discounting some of the bentos there and that would be good food for her for the week. That and she could grab some ramen and other small things to get through the week.

Kagome grabbed her purse and keys and made her way out of the apartment. It would take a good ten minutes to get to the convenience store. She would enjoy the nice walk and getting out of her apartment. The walk was nice as Kagome took in the crisp air, fall was getting close and the weather was starting to cool down enough where it had a cool breeze and no need for a jacket. Seeing the convenience store come into view she smiled and quicked her pace.

Entering the store with a small shiver at the temperature difference she flashed a smile at the person behind the register as she grabbed a basket. It was her weekly ritual, the half off bentos were a god send to someone who was living on a budget. She briskly made her way towards the bento section glad to see the attendant was just now starting to place the half off stickers on the plastic lids.

Glancing at her competition today her smile fell into a grimone, beside the normal teenagers, like herself, and a couple eldery people there seemed to be a few newcomers. They looked like they knew what they wanted and wouldn't stop till they got it. Well tough luck for them, they might have towered over her small five foot frame and probably weighed more then her measly one hundred and fifty pounds but she had faced worse.

Shifting her weight on the balls of her feet she waited with baited breath as the store attendant moved away, as was customary, and then it was on. Multiple hands reached out in a claw like grips grabbing as many bentos as they could before the next person shoved over. She managed to grab three on her first try and went back for another one or two only to see a tattooed hand reach for the same one.

"Oi, you already have some back off!" His voice was a low growl as he tried to yank the bento towards him and his overflowing basket a dark glare on his face. Huffing she tugged it back towards her, if it was one thing she hated it was being bullied. She had dealt with it enough in her life, from people that were supposed to love and take care of her, she would be damned if she let some stranger do it.

"You have more then me and I had it first!" Her deep blue eyes met dark brown ones as the man bent over to glare into her face, his cigarette breath wafting over her. It was a show of intimidation, if the gasp of those around them were anything to go by it would have scared a normal person.

Well, if she was anything she was not normal. Gritting her teeth she jerked her chin up in defiance, inwardly smirking as a small look of shock filtered across his face before it fell into a sneer.

"Listen here lady, I'm with the Okami." He stopped talking, as if that was supposed to mean something. She merely gave a small snort and tugged on the bento, doing her best to ignore the stares and muttering of those nearby that were drawn by the spectacle they were making.

"And? I had my hand on it first. Shouldn't you be a gentleman and let me have it?" Obviously he didn't look like the type to do that but she was past the point of caring, she just wanted to get the bento, check out and go home. She had a long list of job applications to do in the morning.

"Ano miss, maybe you should just let him have it. Here you can have one of mine." The small timid voice made both of their heads snap towards what looked to be a middle school boy, he looked nervous as he kept his gaze down and held out a small bento with white rice and an egg.

The man across from her gave a smirk as he stood back up to his full height, his hand still on the bento. "There, see take that one and let me have this one." His voice was smug as if he was the one doing the right thing. It made her bristle.

Squaring her shoulders she kept her grip on the bento and gave the middle schooler a small smile. "Thank you for your offer but no thanks. I want this bento since I had it first and all." She turned back to the male as he let out a low huff of annoyance, his own shoulders squaring.

"Listen here you little-" He was cut off by someone calling out.

"Kenki what the heck is taking so long?" The voice was male and laid back, coming from the aisle as he made his way through the small gathered crowd. He too was tall, dressed in black slacks and a white dress shirt, his visible skin was tanned and tattooed free. His blue eyes gazed at his underling as he ran a hand through his dual colored hair.

Honestly couldn't the new recruit manage something as easy as getting them lunch? They had to be back at the compound in an hour, they didn't have time for the whelp to drag his feet!

The man identified as Kenki seemed to stiffen at the other man's appearance and shot her a small glare as he turned his attention to the newcomer. "Ah, sorry boss this freaking chick won't let go of my bento!" Bristling at the tone of his voice she grit her teeth ready to tear into him and the newcomer, it was now about more than just the bento.

"Sister?" Kagome froze mid insult as she quickly spun around to the voice she knew from the past. There standing with a basket in hand was Ginta, from Koga's pack. Someone she never thought to see again. Tears welled up in her eyes as she surged forward wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug.
