Disclaimer: I don't own Kimetsu no Yaiba, I'm just doing this for fun.
I feel like, the more fanfictions I write, the longer they become... Anyway.
The manga is ending soon *sob* It was nice though uwu And if I have to be honest, I don't care if in the end Giyushino is not canon, I'll just keep enjoying what I like. I'm already used to my favourite ship not being canon x'D (I received a hard blow when Naruto and Bleach ended. Fortunately I'm already over it). So, I'll stay in the fandom a while longer just because I love Giyushino, and also there's the movie in October, so this isn't totally over yet.
The idea comes from here: /Ayilench/status/1250343570562617351 though as I kept writing, I changed the beginning and the end a little, but the main idea is the same. I just want Giyuu and the Kamado siblings acting as family. I need more Kamado siblings in my life. They deserved better *sob*.
As per usual, if there are spelling or grammatical mistakes, thanks to point them out nwn
Enjoy your reading!
Do you like her?
"Giyū-nii, look! I drew a cat!"
"It looks good."
"Giyū-nii, stay still! I'm drawing you!"
"Sorry."
"Hey, you two, stop bothering Giyū-nii!"
"They don't bother me."
"They truly like you, Giyū."
Giyū simply turned towards Makomo at her statement, who was smiling while holding Rokuta in her arms. Without answering, he resumed his previous position before Hanako could berate him again for moving.
"Of course we like Giyū-nii!" Shigeru exclaimed, beaming. "Ah, but don't worry! We like Makomo-nee too!"
Makomo smiled, playing along. "That's a relief. I was starting to worry you might not like me as much as Giyū."
Giyū merely grunted. It was true the Kamado children had a special liking to spend time with him, but it was not as if he could do anything about it. And to be honest, he liked the attention.
"We like everybody, so you don't have to worry." Takeo said while putting another puzzle piece in its place. "Now, Rokuta. Where do you put this one?"
"Here, here!"
It was a quiet summer afternoon. Hanako and Shigeru were drawing anything that crossed their minds with Giyū watching them, while Takeo and Rokuta were solving a puzzle with Makomo. Kie had to go to the city with her two eldest children, Tanjirō and Nezuko, so Giyū was asked to watch after the younger ones. Makomo just tagged along, and he was glad for the extra help. Even if he liked to spend time with them, the Kamado siblings were children always full of energy and it wasn't unusual for him to be overwhelmed by their sudden fancy ideas.
When they arrived, the children were playing a boardgame, but they were already getting bored, so Makomo suggested other activities instead to avoid them to run all over the house. It worked, and it allowed them to quietly enjoy their afternoon.
"Okay, I've finished! Look." Hanako exclaimed while holding her drawing in front of Giyū's eyes.
The drawing was a mixture of blue and black in that childish style all the kids have, and one could hardly recognize a person in it.
"I like it. I'll keep it." He answered honestly.
"Really?" The girl was almost shining. "Thank you!"
While Giyū was still admiring Hanako's drawing, she took another sheet of paper and started pondering. What should she draw next? She started to look around for any ideas, until her eyes set in the wall calendar. A certain date was marked, and her eyes shined with joy.
"I know! I'll make a drawing for Shinobu-nee!" and she promptly filled the white paper with colourful doodles.
"Oh, that's right, her birthday is next week!" Shigeru exclaimed, and just like his sister he started drawing something to give her.
Giyū looked at the calendar and slightly frowned. Shinobu's birthday was indeed next week, and he still didn't know what kind of gift he would give her. Makomo, Takeo and Rokuta had already finished their puzzle, and they had moved to the small table to participate, with Rokuta asking to be hold by Giyū instead. With Rokuta comfortably sitting on his lap, he watched the siblings drawing colourful flowers and butterflies. Even Makomo started to draw with them.
"What else can we make?" Hanako asked, wondering.
"Mom will bake the cake." Takeo answered. "Maybe we can ask her if we can make some cookies too."
"Makomo-nee, do you already know what you're going to give her?" Shigeru asked.
"Yes, but I'm not going to tell you, it's a secret~." She laughed softly at his pouting expression. "Hey, do you want to make some paper flowers too? I can show you."
Shigeru's face lit up, and soon both of them were folding paper to make some flowers. Until now, Rokuta was quietly drawing, but after a while, he turned around to look at Giyū, who stared back at him.
"What?"
The child suddenly raised his hand holding a crayon and Giyū had to move back to avoid getting his eye poked.
"Giyū-nii! You draw too!"
He sighed. "Okay, but don't do that, it can be dangerous."
"Sorry." The child giggled.
Rokuta told Giyū he was going to draw too, but in fact it was just him colouring the shapes that the child had already drawn. Giyū wasn't particularly an artsy person, but he certainly coloured better than a four-years old.
"Say, do you like Shinobu-nee?" Hanako asked from nowhere.
She didn't seem to ask someone in particular, as she didn't lift up her gaze from her drawing. But after a few seconds she stopped and looked at him and Makomo with her usual big smile. Even her siblings stopped drawing to hear their answers. Giyū frowned so imperceptibly that the children didn't realize it. Makomo did, but she said nothing. She knew what was coming. Her smile never faltered, and she turned to answer Hanako.
"Yes, we do like her." She answered. "She's a nice person."
"I know, right!" Shigeru exclaimed. "Like, the other day when she came, she helped me with my math homework. She explains way better than nii-chan. It's hard to follow nii-chan's explanations."
"It's also because you suck at maths."
"Hey!"
And before anybody could stop them, Shigeru and Takeo were already engaged in a playful fight. Hanako was fidgeting in her place, eager to add something to the conversation.
"Uhm, but, also, she knows a lot of stuff. Like, she can make home remedies and stuff with plants." She said in genuine awe. "She's like a witch."
"Don't call her that, that's mean." Takeo frowned in the middle of their playful fight, allowing his little brother to take the upper hand on him.
"But, it's not like an evil witch like in the film we saw the other day!" She quickly corrected herself. "More like a nice one… maybe a fairy?"
"Fairy, fairy!" Rokuta exclaimed. "A butterfly fairy!"
"A butterfly fairy…" She muttered. "That's a good idea! Thanks, Rokuta." She thanked her younger sibling while starting a new drawing.
The child beamed, happy for the praise, before giving Giyū another crayon to keep colouring. He took the crayon, but he was only colouring in autopilot. He was pondering the kids' conversation. He didn't know if Shinobu was a witch or a fairy—but she could be if she wanted, he was sure of that. In any case, he was sure she possessed some kind of power; after all, she always had a strange effect on him. He felt drawn by her: when she was around, he would only focus on her, completely forgetting his surroundings. He wanted to hold her hands for no reason at all, just by the wish to hold them into his own. He wanted to hug her, crawl by her side, feel the warm of her body. He wanted to kiss her, wondering how her lips would taste against his own. Was he in love? Maybe, perhaps. Yet he never told her anything about his feelings. They were friends, and he was afraid to ruin it if his feelings ended up to be unrequited. Somehow, he always managed to keep a blank expression around her despite all her teasing and poking. But he wondered if he would be able to keep doing that for longer.
"Giyū-nii, do you like Shinobu-nee?"
Hanako's question interrupted his train of thought, and he just stared dumbly at her, without knowing what to answer. People usually felt intimidated by his gaze; but it was not the case for the Kamado siblings, especially the younger ones. So, still smiling, Hanako just asked again.
"Do you like her?"
He felt his mouth going dry. Yes, he liked her, but it wasn't the same kind of "like" as them. He threw a glance to Makomo, who just ignored him and kept folding papers to make more flowers. "Traitor." He thought. "You knew this was coming…"
"I…" He started slowly, considering carefully each word. "I think she is a good friend…"
"Best friend?" Rokuta asked.
"M-maybe…"
In the meanwhile, Takeo and Shigeru had finished their sibling fight and resumed drawing. Takeo was half-listening the conversation while his brother was completely immersed in making his new piece of art. That's why he said:
"But you didn't answer her question." There was no reproach in his voice, only curiosity.
Giyū was froze. Hanako hummed thoughtfully.
"Maybe you can't just answer with a yes or no… I know! What do you like about her? Shigeru, what do you think?"
"Hm?" The boy didn't even raise his head. "She's kind. And pretty. Ah, but nee-chan is prettier."
All the siblings nodded at the statement.
"Takeo-nii-chan?"
"She is reliable like nii-chan." He answered while nodding. It was a short, but honest answer. "Can I have the green pencil?"
"Makomo-nee?"
"I already answered that." She said while handing a green pencil to Takeo. "But yes, it's just like you said. She is nice, pretty and reliable." And then, she turned to Giyū. "Don't you think so~?"
He just avoided her gaze, and she laughed softly at his childish reaction. He only wanted to escape the conversation. It was making him terribly uncomfortable, even though he knew the siblings weren't doing it on purpose. As if on cue, the doorbell rang.
"I'll go." Giyū quickly said, passing Rokuta to Makomo again.
But before he could stand up, he heard two "I want to go too!" and both Hanako and Shigeru launched themselves on his back. He nearly tripped, both because of their combined weight and the surprise, but fortunately, he managed to keep his balance. He sighed. This wasn't going to end anytime soon.
"Are you crazy?!" Takeo yelled, both startled and alarmed at his siblings' sudden reaction.
"Are you okay?" Makomo asked with a softer, but also concerned voice.
"We are fine…" Giyū mumbled, a little tired. "Don't do that, it can be dangerous."
"Sorry!" The siblings giggled, but they did sound apologetical.
And so, he went to the entrance with Hanako and Shigeru hanging from his shoulders. It wasn't hard to keep his balance since they were quite light.
"Ah, it's almost snack time." He heard Takeo say, soon followed by footsteps to the kitchen.
"Are you hungry?" Hanako asked.
"We made some melon pan the other day if you want." Shigeru added.
"I'm not that hungry, maybe I'll just take some tea…" He started to answer while opening the door, but he could not finish.
"Hi! Is Auntie Kie here? I would like to—. My! Giyū-san?"
In front of him was Kochō Shinobu, the very woman he was trying so hard not to think about right now. He froze on the spot. On the other hand, Hanako and Shigeru were delighted and greeted her happily and loudly. His ears were suffering. Shinobu looked at them for a moment before bursting into laugh, trying to hide it and failing.
"I-I'm sorry!" She said still giggling. "This is just so unexpected!"
Giyū wanted to hide himself into a hole. First, he was dragged in an uncomfortable discussion from which Makomo refused to save him, and now the reason of countless sleepless nights was laughing in front of him because of his sudden appearance with two children dangling from his shoulders like little monkeys.
"I didn't expect to see you here, sorry." Shinobu apologised again once her mirth subsided; but there was still a joyful glow in her eyes and it just made him forget his embarrassment. "I wanted to borrow some stuff from Auntie Kie, but since you're here, I guess she's not."
"No, she went to the city with nii-chan and nee-chan." Hanako answered before he could say anything. "They won't be back until dinner. Do you want to stay?" She asked eagerly.
Giyū stiffened, and secretly whished for her to not to stay. Yet at the same time, he wanted her to stay; so, when Shinobu smiled apologetically to the girl, he felt somewhat sad.
"I'm sorry, I have to go back right away. I promised Kanao to help her with her school project."
"Oh." The deception in the children's voice was very clear.
Giyū was starting to tire, so he brought the children back down. Right after, Takeo arrived, wondering why they were still at the entrance.
"Hi, Shinobu-nee." He greeted her. "Since your birthday is next week, will you come to the restaurant?"
"Oh, yes! Please come!" Hanako and Shigeru exclaimed at unison.
"Of course I'll come! We do this every year, you don't need to ask."
"Maybe, but it's nice when you come. We like you very much." Said Shigeru smiling, and his siblings nodded to his statement again.
"My, thank you." And she smiled fondly to them. Giyū was sure his heart skipped a beat.
"Yeah, we were talking about that earlier." Hanako added. "About how we like you a lot."
"Well, I like you a lot too." She answered back.
"Do you like Giyū-nii too?" Shigeru asked out of nowhere.
Time seemed to stop, but the children didn't look as if they realized it. They were just waiting for her answer, expectant. Giyū was absolutely mortified. He had already scratched the idea of asking her himself, and he didn't think the siblings would just ask her that so bluntly. Although… he did want to hear her answer. That's why he was staring at her so attentively. As for Shinobu, she just kept smiling, but he did notice how she was now avoiding his gaze.
"I think… he's a nice person. Kind and reliable too." She finally said, facing his general direction but her gaze purposely kept on the children.
"Yeah, that's why we like him a lot!" Hanako exclaimed happily. "And what do you like more about him?"
This time she couldn't answer. A loud crash was heard, and Rokuta's bawl followed suit.
"Ah! It's okay Rokuta, calm down… Giyū!" Makomo's alarmed voice came from the kitchen. "I need your help!"
Takeo was already inside the house again, asking worryingly what happened. Hanako and Shigeru were still waiting for her answer, but she already decided it was time for her to go.
"Well, it was nice to see you. I hope nothing bad happened to Rokuta-kun. Good-bye!"
"Yeah. See you around." He said.
Their eyes locked for a split second before she finally leaved. Was she… was she blushing?
"Bye-bye, Shinobu-nee." Hanako and Shigeru waved at her, clearly sad that her visit lasted so little.
He nudged them inside, and they quickly went to the kitchen while he closed the door. He took a few deep breaths, reflecting on what just happened, before finally going to the kitchen to see what was going on.
.
"I'm home."
"Shinobu, welcome back! Did Auntie Kie… Eh? Something happened?"
Kanae was surprised to see her sister directly lock herself in her bedroom.
"It's nothing." Came Shinobu's muffled voice. "I just need, uh… some time alone."
"… Well, if you say so."
Finally alone, Shinobu allowed herself to drop in her bed and whine. Her face was burning hot; she was sure she was blushing madly. It always happened whenever Giyū just kept staring at her. It was hard to bear all of his attention—though she didn't dislike it. Quite the contrary, in fact—, and that's why she would keep poking and teasing him, so her nervousness wouldn't be so evident. It worked, mostly because he was terribly dense. But she didn't expect the siblings to blurt out that question in front of him. Does she like him? Yes. She had long accepted she had fallen in love with him. But she was not sure if she should tell him. Maybe he wouldn't like her back. Maybe he thought she was annoying with all her teasing. Then why was he staring at her with such insistence? Why did he look like her answer to a child's question was important to him? She thought he wouldn't care about that… but did he?
Her heart was still beating furiously in her chest. She hugged her pillow tightly, waiting for it to calm down.
A few notes about this fic:
-Even if it's not directly stated in the fic, the story is set in the Japanese countryside/village. Don't ask why, I just love the countryside. I call this the Countryside AU, and I'll write more notes about this in the future, since I still have a couple of fics in mind for this AU.
-Nobody dies/Everybody lives AU, obviously!
-Ages are the same as in canon, meaning that Giyuu is 21yo and Shinobu is 18yo. Makomo is around 22, and as for the siblings: Tanjirou: 15yo - Nezuko: 14yo - Takeo: 12yo - Hanako: 10yo - Shigeru: 7yo - Rokuta: 3-4yo.
-What happened to Rokuta? Nothing really bad, actually. He was playing between Makomo's legs while she was trying to make some snacks. Because she didn't have enough room to move, she accidentally knocked a cup and it almost fell on Rokuta's head. Fortunately it didn't, though he still got scared and that's why he started to bawl. Makomo is not as good as Tanjirou or Giyuu when it comes to calm Rokuta down (he's rather picky), and so that's why she called him. Now that I think of it, you can see it as some sort of payback since she didn't want to help Giyuu earlier xD
It was fun writing this, though it was hard sometimes, it has been a while since I last wrote children characters. I hope I did them justice TwT And I hope you enjoyed your reading uwu Thank you nwn
