A Game of Fate and Magic

Chapter 1: Fate's Boredom and Harry's New Reality

If one wanted to explain the events that were about to take place, a quick and simple summary of it would go something like this:

Fate was bored. She had already seen it all, done it all. Technically she'd seen every single iteration of everything and anything that could possibly happen. In the eons after she was brought into existence and seeing all the things she had seen, she thought that she had the right to say "been there, done that."

Thus, because of her boredom, which was never a good thing for a being of her caliber, she decided to do something that she had never done before.

She would give a being a miniscule fraction of her powers. Fate looked over at the infinite amount of threads that surrounded herself and plucked at one randomly. She could have chosen a specific being, as she had seen many beings worthy of this power, but where was the fun in that?

She sighed. Even holding this world's fate thread was starting to change the reality of this world. She should get on with it already.

Thus, with the smallest shove of power that she dared give a mortal, a single thread among a world of threads shined a bit brighter than others.

Fate was both excited and anxious. She vaguely wondered if this was what children felt like when taking on new endeavours. Not even she would know of the consequences, good and bad, that this action would take upon the multiverses.

May 16th, Year ?

Harry Potter was a young boy. He couldn't say that he had a bad life—if he compared it to other people's lives that he had read or heard about—but he could very easily say that he hadn't had a good one either.

He was taught early on that he had to do the chores that he was assigned because if he didn't do the chores, Vernon would lock him in his cupboard. They didn't make the list of chores too long or unreasonable, and, weirdly enough, they were a good way to get his mind off things. He always kept on thinking and dreaming, and when he told Vernon about that, Vernon had him locked in his cupboard. Harry was taught early on that he was normal, and Vernon told him that dreaming wasn't normal.

After that day, Harry told himself that he didn't want to be normal. If being normal stopped him from dreaming, why would he want to be normal?

Harry also came to realize that there would be no love in this household. His aunt and uncle clearly didn't show him the same love that they showed for his cousin Dudley-which wasn't necessarily a bad thing when Harry thought about how Dudley was shaping up to become.

Harry did have to admit that Dudley was physically strong for their age though. Harry cringed slightly at the thought, knowing of his cousin's strength from experience.

"Boy, if you don't hurry up with our breakfast you're gonna' get it!" Shouted a frustrated Uncle Vernon, snapping Harry out of his thoughts.

"Yes Uncle," Harry responded, going back to whisking the eggs.

Harry looked around at the students in his class that were taking a math test. It had been pretty simple, just some quick calculations on the multiplication tables, but there had been a few questions that had been more difficult. He had already finished, and he could easily say that he enjoyed the subject. It wasn't very hard after you understood how to do something, it was just frustrating to take the time to actually learn it.

Speaking of learning, Harry loved to learn. It could have been because he associated school with an escape from the Dursley household—a thing that meant school was good, and thus made learning good.

While Harry loved learning, he didn't enjoy learning as much as he enjoyed reading leisurely. He often went to the library instead of eating lunch in order to find a new book that interested him. He loved books on mythology more than anything. It was like combining history and fantasy at the same time! He might not have understood all of it, but he could easily say that he loved reading about ancient gods and the beliefs of people from long ago.

Harry snapped out of his thoughts and focused on the people around him. He was thankful for the fact that he was in a different class than Dudley. There were just enough students in his grade for there to be two classes. Due to their last names being so far apart, they were put in different classes. He had a few people that he liked talking to in his class, but other than those few he didn't really talk to anyone because of the weird things that happened around him.

There was one time, like 3 or 4 years ago, when he had been really annoyed and a pencil went flying at Anna's face. In his defense, she had been bugging him about borrowing his pencil—the only one he had!—for a few minutes. Harry hadn't even touched the pencil! He was just glad that it hit her in the cheek and not in her eyes. That would've been really bad. He didn't have an explanation for it—it was just one of those weird things that happened.

There was also the time when the stove top hadn't worked one morning. He really wanted to go to school because it was the first day of school of the year, but he knew that Uncle Vernon would throw him in the cupboard despite that. Harry didn't know how, but when he had gotten really stressed, the fire suddenly burned to life under the pan and he had jumped in shock. He didn't know how he had done it, but he wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Things like that had been happening ever since he could remember and he really didn't know what it was but it really could've only been—

Brrring!

The school bell pierced the ears of all the students as the teacher, Mrs. Ramlow, called for all of the tests and dismissed us out to lunch and recess.

Harry quickly packed up his things and headed to the library, where he found the book that he had left with the librarian, Ms. Alexandria "but if you call me by my full name I'll kick you out so call me Ms. Alex," and went to a quiet corner of the library in between shelves. Harry didn't know why but he just felt uncomfortable reading where other people could see him.

It could have been because the last time he had done so Dudley had ripped the book from his hands and had said: "What is a freak like you reading books for?!"

No, no way. That would be ridiculous.

Quietly sighing, Harry opened the book. After a few minutes of reading, he heard a sound that he had never heard before.

Ding!

Just as suddenly as the sound came it disappeared, only to be replaced by a sort of box—screen?— that appeared in front of his eyes.

Due to your diligent reading, your INT has increased by 1! Say "Stats" to look at your status screen!

...what?

What?

Stats? What the heck was that? INT? Increased by 1? What was this?

Figuring that he wasn't going to be able to learn anything about… whatever this was, he would need to continue with this.

Confused and anxious, Harry said "stats," making sure to be quiet lest other people would hear him speaking what could have been gibberish.

Name: Harry Potter

Race: Human

Title: ?

Lv: 1. EXP: 0/100

HP: 50/50

MP: 100/100

STR: 10 (-5) = 5

VIT: 10 (-5) = 5

DEX: 10 (-5) = 5

SPI: 10

INT: 12

WIS: 10

CHA: 10 (-5) - 5

PTS: 2

Money: 0

Harry was confused. He could've guessed what some of the things that he saw had meant from some of the video games that he secretly played when Dudley wasn't home, but he didn't really know what they all were.

He heard the ding again. It was quickly becoming annoying.

"Oh! Sorry about that! I forgot to send you the introduction message. I'll do that now, sorry!"

Was… was that a voice in his head that he had just heard? And what did they mean about "introduction message"?

The status page quickly disappeared and instead showed what he assumed was the intro message.

Welcome. You have been granted the ability to live your life as a videogame character! This will change your life significantly. You have no option to say no to this, because life isn't fair.

Well, that didn't seem very good so far.

On another note, this ability will give you limitless potential. Your power can eventually even trump Gods if you put enough time and effort to grind, and grind, and grind, and grind, and grind… sorry, where was I? Oh yeah, well, this thing can give you infinite power. Use the power granted to you in any way you wish. You could try to bring the world to ruin, conquer and dominate the entire planet if you so desire, or you could try to rid humanity of their evils and cause everlasting peace. The choice is yours.

Say "In Game Menu" or "IGM" to continue with the tutorial.

What?

Harry was shocked. Did this thing really give him limitless potential? Make him stronger than Gods? That seemed unreal. Well, a lot of things that seemed unreal or impossible had already happened around him, so he supposed that he'd just go with the flow for now. "IGM."

As soon as the word left his mouth, screens began to appear all around his body in a variety of different sizes. He saw that one of them had a picture of himself with a few different boxes next to it, and it said "Character Customization" at the top of it. Another screen had a grid like format that said "Inventory" on the top.

After he had a moment to briefly glance at some of them, the text screen that he was quickly becoming familiar with showed up.

These screens show your in game menu and other relevant information. Swiping around with your hand causes the entire menu to move around yourself, and you can tap on something to select it. You also select a specific tab by thinking it in your mind.

Begin the explanation of the various functions and tabs in the main menu by swiping and tapping or by thinking on the "Stats" screen.

Harry did exactly that.

As you had seen earlier, your stats are just numbers and there are a few things attached to those numbers. Your stats define your current abilities and limits; the higher your stats, the better you are at that thing and things related to it.

Name: Your name.

Race: This is your race. There are many races, and it is possible to change one's race by their design or forcibly changed by others.

Title: Titles are things that you earn by holding positions of power or as a reward from any type of quest. Someone who is a president or prime minister gets a title relevant to their position and gains bonuses depending on their title.

Lv: Levels are representative of how strong someone is. A general rule of thumb is that the higher the level the stronger someone is. There are anomalies, however, and there are cases where a low level being can be significantly stronger than a high level being. The EXP next to your level shows how close you are to levelling up.

HP: Your health points or hit points. If you get to 0, GAME OVER.

MP: Your mana points or magical power. If you get to 0, you become magically exhausted.

STR: Your strength. This defines your physical power.

VIT: Your vitality, endurance or stamina. This defines your ability to tank both physical and magical attacks in fights and your maximum HP.

DEX: Your dexterity or speed. This defines your ability to aim, dodge and run.

SPI: Your spirit or magical energy. This defines your magical damage.

INT: Your intelligence. This defines your maximum MP and your straight intelligence.

WIS: Your wisdom. This defines your MP regeneration and how efficiently and wisely you can use the knowledge that you have.

CHA: Your charisma. This defines how sociable you seem to others and how effectively you can interact with others.

PTS: Your skill points. Every level a 10 sided dice is rolled and you get the amount of points that the dice lands on. This has been automatically done for you at level 1. You can distribute them to your stats as you wish. It is possible to gain skill points from any type of quest.

Money: Your money.

To continue with the guide, move to the "Skills" tab. To pause the tutorial, think or say "Pause tutorial," and to resume the tutorial, say "Resume tutorial.

Harry took a moment to understand what all of the things he had just read meant. That was a lot of information that he needed to understand, and it looked like he would definitely need to go into the options menu and look at the more in depth version of all of this stuff.

"Pause tutorial," Harry whispered under his breath, done with his reading for now and wanting to go outside for the last half of recess.

As he was walking outside the library, he got a glimpse of the librarian putting a book away and noticed something that he hadn't ever seen before above her head.

Ms. ? Alexandria

Lv: 27

Stopping, he looked at her more closely. He didn't know what her first name was so it made a good amount of sense that he wouldn't just magically gain knowledge of her name. Would he know who someone was if he heard about what someone looked like? Would people be capable of tricking this "game system" or whatever it was? He'd have to look into that later, he supposed.

For an intelligent inquiry, gain +1 INT!

So if he just did a lot of thinking and a lot of reading he'd increase his intelligence? That seemed a bit too easy, but whatever.

Finally leaving the library, Harry decided to go outside. He saw his classmates playing soccer with Dudley's class, and Harry decided to continue observing the people he knew.

Dudley Dursley

Lv: 3

Harry heard the cursed ding as another text screen appeared in front of him.

From your continuous observation of the people around you, you have gained the skill [Observe].

Realizing that he hadn't gone over the skill section of the tutorial, Harry decided to go inside a slide, where nobody would see him, to resume the tutorial and go through the skills tab.

Skills are a vital aspect of your abilities. Everything you do will be paired with a skill, and no matter how advanced you were at that skill before your acquisition of The Gamer's power, they will all be reset to 0 and you will need to rediscover and create your skills. Furthermore, there are two types of skills. There are passive skills and active skills. Active skills are skills where you must think or say the name of a skill in order to cast it. Passive skills are effects that occur passively while doing something related to that skill.

Harry had to admit that that seemed like bullshit. He had worked so hard on his reading and maths and now it was just going to reset? Well, he did have potential to increase his skills far beyond what they ever could have been so he supposed that it was a fair trade.

To see your current skills, choose either the "Mundane Skills" skill list or the "Magical Skills" skill tree.

Magical skills? Magic existed? Well, Harry honestly couldn't even say that he was surprised at this point. This entire "The Gamer" power seemed like magic. But if this wasn't one of those magical skills what was it?

'Oh well,' thought Harry. 'Might as well get on with it,' and he whispered "mundane skills" rather quietly.

Mundane skills are skills that are non-magical in nature.

Skills:

[Observe] - Lv: 1 - 50%: The ability to gain basic information on an object. If this ability is used on an item then it will give you the rarity of the item and a short description of what the item is. The higher the level of [Observe] the more information you gain from the description. This ability only works on people after learning their first and last name.

Harry didn't really know what he had been expecting, but it was definitely not that short of a list. He didn't even bother checking the magical skills because he knew that he didn't currently have any.

To continue with the guide, go to the "Quests" tab.

Before Harry could do that though, the school bell rang. Harry sighed. Walking back to class with the rest of his classmates, he saw Dudley sneer at him. Deciding to use his newly obtained skill:

"Observe."

Dudley Dursley

Lv: 3

Description: Dudley Dursley is a child that is spoiled by his parents. He typically gets whatever he asks of them. He is quick to temper.

Reputation: -3000

Harry was surprised. He hadn't realized that there was anything similar to a relationship system in this game. He would need to check what exactly that number meant and if there was a way to fix it. Why would he want his cousin to hate him, after all?

Skill [Observe] has gained 50% exp!

Wait… if it was that easy to increase a skill's level, then couldn't he just repeatedly use that same skill over and over again?

Harry grinned in Dudley's direction, unknowingly causing said fat child to feel an uncomfortable shiver.

It was the end of the school day when Harry saw an orange exclamation point pop up above Mrs. Ramlow's head. Realizing that it meant he should probably go and talk to her to see what it meant, he walked up to her but not before using [Observe] on her.

Skill [Observe] unable to be used as you do not know this person's first and last name.

Not unexpected, as he had remembered reading that in the skill's description, but why not just check what it did?

"Excuse me Mrs. Ramlow, but do you need help with anything?"

Harry noticed how she looked up in what looked like surprise and gratefulness. "Oh, Harry! I thought you had already left with the other students. Well, if you're here, could you help me bring some of these stacks of paper back to my office?"

Everything suddenly froze. The world turned grey. Harry tried to move his body but quickly realized that he didn't have the ability to do so. Before getting nervous, Harry tried to calm down and read the words that had suddenly appeared in front of him.

[Side Quest - Lv: 1 - Pt. 1/?] - Help Mrs. ? Ramlow!

Goal: Help Mrs. ? Ramlow by bringing some of the papers to her office!

Reward: ?, 15 EXP.

Because you have not yet been able to complete the "Quest" tab in the tutorial, you will be able to go through it now so that you can understand what quests are!

A quest is the equivalent of a mission or a goal, be it short term or long term. There are different types of quests. They are:

Story Quests: Missions that you must complete to continue with the main story. These typically grant the most EXP. After completing a main story quest, you will not be able to repeat it. These typically appear as books above someone's head.

Side Quests: Missions that you don't need to complete but are available to you in order to help The Grind. Some of these will be repeatable, but they will give less EXP after the first completion of a quest for every level that you are above the quest's level. These typically come in parts and progression comes as slowly or as quickly as the difficulty of the quest. These typically appear as exclamation points above someone's head. The brighter the color the higher the urgency. The higher the urgency, the more possible EXP you can receive.

Event Quests: Missions that are only available for a temporary time and are not repeatable. They can give big rewards when completed, but can be much more difficult than typical quests of that level.

Interlude/Rank-Up Quests: Missions that are vital in increasing one's Reputation points with people. Once certain checkpoints are reached, these quests are used to rank up your previous maximum reputation with a specific person.

There are different sub-types of quests in each of these specific but you can learn more about that by going into the "Options" tab.

Whenever you talk to a person that can give you a quest and after you have reached a successful point in the dialogue, the world will stop until you either accept or deny the quest. You can not deny Story Quests.

You will also be able to see any ongoing quests in this tab.

That's it. To continue with the tutorial, move to the "Dungeons" tab.

After taking in all that information, Harry realized that he still couldn't move.

Accept/Deny Quest.

"Accept?" Harry asked more than stated, still confused by everything that was happening. And just like that, with only a single word, color began to bleed into the world.

"Oh, really! Thanks so much Harry! You can take this stack here," she said, gesturing to a smaller stack of paper than the one she was currently holding in her hands. "Just follow me to my office."

Harry nodded in agreement and went to pick up the stack of paper.

Harry picked up the papers and followed his teacher to her office. He opened the door for her as her hands were fuller than his, and put the papers he had on her desk.

She put the papers that she had in her hands next to the papers that he had dropped on the desk and sighed. "Thanks for the help, Harry. You saved me another trip! Now I can work on grading these before the staff meeting so that I can get home on time for once."

Quest complete! You have finished the quest "Help Mrs. ? Ramlow!"

Rewards: +15 EXP!

+20 Reputation with Mrs. ? Ramlow!

Harry grinned at his teacher, "No problem! I'd be happy to help again if you ever need it."

She smiled at him, "You're a sweet boy. Now head out. I wouldn't want your family wondering about where you are."

"See you tomorrow, Mrs. Ramlow," Harry said. Before leaving he noticed a name tag on her desk.

Mrs. Riley Ramlow.

Harry cheered in his head. He looked at her as he was leaving her office and thought 'Observe.'

Riley Ramlow

Lv: 34

Description: Riley Ramlow is a teacher that loves kids. She is generally cheerful and tries to be happy even when circumstances are against her. She has 2 children of her own, one a teenager and the other a toddler, and loves them dearly. She is married to her husband of 5 years.

Reputation: +620

Skill [Observe] has levelled up!

"Are you alright, Harry? You've been standing there for a few moments now…" she trailed off, looking at him confused.

Harry's eyes widened and felt his face go red, "O-oh! Sorry! Bye!" and he rushed out of the office until he got to the front gates of the school, embarrassed beyond belief.

He couldn't believe that he'd just done that! That was so dumb! He definitely needed to see if there was a way to call up information and then check it later. Maybe he needed to increase his wisdom so that something like that didn't happen again…

Ding!

Due to making a supremely stupid decision and almost making someone suspicious of you, your WIS has decreased by -1!

...what? What? WHAT? You're kidding! That was so annoying! That made no sense!

Actually, when he thought about it, some sense was made. If he could gain points by doing something good, then he could lose points by doing something bad.

Grumbling in frustration, Harry decided to start his trek home.

Deciding to take a detour, mainly because he didn't want to see his cousin or uncle yet, Harry walked along to the park. He sat on the bench and sighed. This whole thing was weird. He didn't really know how it all worked yet, and was confused by some of the stuff.

Well, it didn't really look like he could just give it up, and he wasn't the type to not learn how it worked before giving up on it.

Suddenly, from behind him, Harry heard a rustle in the bush. With a sort of super speed, he jumped up from the bench and strained his senses to see or hear what made the rustle. He noticed that through some of the brush he could see some white spots. Maybe a rabbit?

Getting up and going to the bush, Harry startled slightly when a bloody rabbit jumped out of the bush. Snarling at him, Harry started freaking out before shouting, "Observe!"

Rabid Rabbit

Lv. 1

Description: A rabbit that just fought a squirrel to death! It looks like it's ready to fight anything that stands in its way! It's about to fight you for world domination!

The rabbit jumped at him before he could do anything else. Successfully finding it's target, the rabbit dug its teeth into Harry's skin.

"Fuck!" Harry shouted in pain.

You've taken 7 damage! HP: 43/50.

As Harry tried to run away from the rabbit the rabbit jumped at him again and managed to clip through his arm and bit his leg.

You've taken 4 damage! HP: 39/50

"You stupid rabbit! Get off me!"

Harry looked around for anything he could use to beat off the rabbit and rushed to a stick that he found a few feet away from him. Noticing that the rabbit was coming closer, Harry tried to swing the stick at the rabbit but tripped as he was going backwards. Just as the rabbit was going to pounce on him, Harry tried to take another hit at the rabbit and successfully found his target. A resounding "SMACK" sounded through the air and the rabbit, bloodier than before, was knocked aside.

Hit success! You dealt 1 damage!

Rabid Rabbit HP: 6/7

That was so unfair! Why did a freakin' rabbit do so much more damage than he did?!

The rabbit, recovering faster than Harry did and much angrier than before, snarled before it's eyes turned red.

Rabid Rabbit has become berserk!

What the heck did that mean?

Said rabid rabbit leaped at Harry before swiping at him with his nails. Although Harry tried to roll aside, the rabbit still managed to hit him.

You've taken 5 damage! HP: 34/50

Clenching his teeth in pain yet regaining his bearing, Harry tried to hit the beast away as it jumped towards him once more. He managed to plow the stick into its head and he heard a crunch, but not before the monstrosity of a rabbit was able to sink its teeth deep into his arm.

Harry screamed. That fucking hurt. Readying himself to continue fighting the small monster, he sighed before realizing that nothing was attacking him. He decided to read the most recent message.

You've taken 6 damage! HP: 28/50

Hit success! You dealt 6 damage!

Rabid Rabbit HP: 0/7

You killed Rabid Rabbit!

Rewards: Rabbit pelt x1! Rabbit tooth x3! EXP Gained: 13!

Rewards are being sent to your inventory.

Due to killing your first enemy, you have completed the Achievement: [Kill Your First Enemy!]. Gain 25 EXP! You have gained the perk: Wabbit Hunta'!

Due to your using a blunt weapon and successfully beating an opponent with said weapon, you have learned the skill [Blunt Weapon Mastery]!

[Blunt Weapon Mastery] - Lv: 1 - 50%: How effective you are at using blunt weapons.

Harry wheezed before plopping to the ground, shocked. What had just happened? What had he just done? He looked for the rabbit for a second before finding it, bloody on the ground. A moment later, it popped into a shower of golden dust, disappearing before his eyes.

Was the rabbit even real? He had just killed it… He had killed. Honestly, looking at the bloody stick in his hands and noticing how bad his wounds really were, he couldn't say that he felt bad. He had acted in self defense and judging by how much HP he had left, it would've only been a matter of time before it was him that died.

Wow. Harry couldn't believe that he had almost died. A single rabbit almost killed him. That was ridiculous. He had lost almost half of his HP from a single rabbit. He needed to get stronger before fighting anything else.

Deciding to finally get up, he walked over to where the rabbit had died and investigated. Did everything that he fought like that disappear? Would that happen in front of people if he killed a monster? Would people disappear if he killed them?

He hoped not. Noticing a shimmer of light, and were those words floating in midair, Harry walked over to the bush that the rabbit had originally pounced from. He looked at the orange words that floated above the bush.

Squabunny Dungeon - Lv: 3

Difficulty: Intermediate, not recommended until you reach the recommended level to enter this dungeon.

Exit: Yes

Rewards: ?

Enter: Yes/No

Harry sighed and immediately pressed no. He'd look at the dungeon section of the tutorial when he was safe and sound in his bed, or at least as safe and sound as he could've been in his bed.

Harry grunted as he made his way home, smiling in relief as he saw the front of the house that he lived in. Could he really call a place where he didn't feel at home his home?

He walked up to the front door of the house and slowly opened the door. "I'm home, Aunt Petunia," Harry called out, knowing from experience that his aunt liked to know who came and left the house.

"You were out a long time today. Well, it doesn't matter. You're here now. Go do the dishes."

Harry sighed. No rest for the wicked, was there? "I'll go shower first. I don't want to get the dishes dirtier than before."

She grunted nonchalantly, "Yes, do that. Wouldn't want you dirtying up the house more than usual."

Harry had recently found that Petunia had been kinder to him than she used to be and it made him a bit uncomfortable because he wasn't used to it. She used to just give him commands but she actually began to talk with him sometimes, which was welcomed if a bit new and weird. Even if she said more than just, "do the dishes!" it was still something, right?

Thankful that Aunt Petunia hadn't popped her head to the hall to look at him as he was bloody all over, Harry rushed to the shower. Sighing in relief as he washed his injuries, Harry decided that now was a better time than ever to continue the tutorial.

Dungeons are places that exist outside of space and time. Your goal is to complete the dungeon after entering one. To complete dungeons, you need to clear the monsters/mobs and eventually kill the boss. Some dungeons will let you leave whenever you'd like as long as you are not in the middle of a battle while you can't leave other dungeons. Sometimes you will need to enter a dungeon to continue with the story mode. There are multiple types of dungeons:

Regular Dungeons: Dungeons where you can find anywhere in the world. They are typically relevant to the place that you find them. There are usually multiple types of mobs in these dungeons. To clear these dungeons, you must first kill a set number of mobs and every mob killed after that has a chance of causing the boss monster to spawn. You can exit in the middle of regular dungeons. ONLY AVAILABLE ONCE A DAY. Every time you clear a dungeon after the initial clear of a dungeon you will receive reduced EXP, but higher chance at good drop rates for skills, items, and perks. The more times you fail to clear a dungeon of this type, the lower your chance for rewards.

Event Dungeons: Dungeons that are only available for a temporary amount of time. There are many different types of event dungeons, from puzzle dungeons to clearing dungeons to RAID dungeons. Rewards are typically greater than regular dungeons but also more difficult to attain. You CAN NOT exit in the middle of event dungeons.

Story Dungeons: Dungeons that are required for you to complete in a certain time period in order to complete the story. You can exit in the middle of story dungeons.

Dungeons tend to have great rewards, but depending on your abilities a dungeon that is a lower level than what is recommended can easily be more difficult than a dungeon that is a higher level.

You will also be able to find a Dungeon Log, which is the main use of the "Dungeons" tab. In the Dungeon Log, you will be able to see what dungeons you've encountered, what dungeons you've completed, the amount of times you've cleared or failed a dungeon. In the "Dungeons" tab there is also an enemy log where you can find all of the enemies that you've encountered in each dungeon.

To continue the tutorial, go to the "Character Customization" tab.

After getting out of the shower and deciding that the dishes could wait for a few more moments, he decided to continue with the tutorial.

The "Character Customization" tab shows how you are currently customized. It shows you a picture of what you look like along with several slots for your currently equipped clothing or armor.

Your currently equipped clothing: Nothing. You are stark naked.

The picture that popped up immediately after those words would have had him spit water out of his mouth if he'd had water in his mouth. Did this game love teasing him or something? A picture of a naked Harry was rotating in a 360o circle.

That was entirely unnecessary! As he was going to put on his clothes, a box of text appeared in front of the clothes.

Would you like to equip the clothing set: [Old Hand-Me-Downs That Are Too Big For You And Are Ripped]?

Yes/No

This game really did love to tease him apparently. Selecting yes, the clothing disappeared in front of his eyes and suddenly reappeared on his body. Looking at the picture of the spinning Harry, Harry noticed that it was wearing the same clothes that he was.

Getting used to that would be difficult.

Inside the "Char. Cust." tab, you can select a piece of clothing to see that stat bonuses that it gives.

Selecting the shirt in the slot next to his chest area, a zoomed in picture of the shirt popped up instead of the picture of him in clothing.

Raggedy Old Hand-Me-Down Shirt:

Rank: Garbage

Effects: CHA -3

Description: A raggedy, old, hand-me-down shirt. It is so unappealing that it causes people to interact with you less frequently and makes it harder to socialize with them.

That wasn't very funny. He would definitely have to go buy new clothing if his clothing was the reason his charisma was so low.

To unequip a piece of clothing, select unequip. You may then select on the slot of blank clothing and then choose any other piece of clothing that can fit into that slot from your inventory.

To continue with the tutorial, select the "Reputation" tab.

Harry wanted to try to finish with the tutorial as quickly as possible, so decided to proceed and went to the "Reputation" tab.

Reputation is a direct representation of what a person thinks of you and how positively or negatively they think of you. Remember that your reputation with another is not entirely accurate as to how another will treat you. Someone that likes you might treat you rudely while someone that hates you will treat you politely.

In this tab, you will be able to see two things. You will be able to see a list of people on the right, along with your reputation number with them. On the left, you will see the numbers that those reputation points correlate with.

Harry, having enough of all of this gamer thing, decided to just go do the dishes. As weird as it sounded, Harry did the dishes every day and doing such a monotonous act actually allowed him to relax and think about whatever he wanted.

Passing his aunt without a word, Harry groaned to himself as he saw an orange exclamation point above the dishes. Knowing that he had to do the dishes one way or the other (Aunt Petunia could get extremely grumpy when Harry left any work in the house undone) he meandered to the dish rack, trying to take as much time as he could.

Once he arrived at the dishes, the world's color bleeded out once more. The only color in his vision was the text that had suddenly appeared in front of him.

[Side Quest - Lv: 1 - Pt: 1/?] - Do The Dishes!

Goal: Complete the dishes in a timely manner!

Rewards: 13 EXP, +10 Reputation with Aunt Petunia

Hidden Rewards: ?

Accept/Deny

He didn't really have a choice, so he selected accept and got on with it.

Beginning the dishes, he saw that there was a timer in the corner of his vision. This was so stupid! A timer would only stress him out more!

He started well, and washed the dishes as he normally did. Noticing that the timer had suddenly turned from green to orange, he got nervous and dropped a dish. With a resounding "CRASH" the plate hit the floor, pieces of it flying all over the floor.

"You'll clean that up when you're done with the dishes, boy!" He heard Aunt Petunia shout at him from the living room.

God, did Harry hate being called boy.

It was about 20 minutes later, after he had finished both washing the dishes and cleaning up the bits of broken plate that had somehow gotten into every single crevice of the kitchen floor, Harry read the notifications that he had received.

You have dropped a plate! -30 Reputation with Aunt Petunia.

Quest Complete! You have finished the quest: "Do The Dishes!"

Rewards: +13 EXP, +10 Reputation with Aunt Petunia.

You did not complete the criteria in order to obtain the hidden reward.

That was frustrating, to say the least. He didn't even get to learn what the criteria to complete the reward was! Arrgghh! This stupid game was going to make him crazy!

Grumbling to himself in anger, he popped his head in the living room and told Aunt Petunia that he was done cleaning the kitchen. Looking annoyed, she grumbled something unintelligible and went back to watching TV.

Deciding to pop his head into the living room in order to cast observe on Aunt Petunia, Harry tried to silently sneak his way to the living room without letting her notice. Why was he trying to be sneaky?

Just because Aunt Petunia looked like she was being nicer to him didn't mean he liked her any more.

Harry cringed as he heard the floorboards creak loudly, immediately letting Aunt Petunia know that he was heading to the living room. Once he arrived, he found her staring at him.

"Was there something you needed, boy?"

Well, it seemed like his recent dish dropping had caused her to return to her rude state. Not that he really minded. Harry definitely felt more comfortable around a rude Aunt Petunia than a generous one.

"No, Aunt Petunia. Just coming to see if you wanted me to make dinner," Harry said, trying to think of a reason that he'd actually go see her for anything.

She looked at him in surprise for a moment, nodding. "Good. Making yourself useful for once," she sniffed. "I won't be needing help tonight. I don't think I can trust you around the kitchen tonight."

+10 Reputation with Aunt Petunia!

By lying successfully, you have created a new skill!

Skill created: [Deception] - Lv: 1 - 50%: How effective you are at deceiving people through lying or other means.

What had he said? Was she thankful that he had offered to help for dinner? The world may never know, Harry supposed.

"Alright. I'll be waiting for dinner then," Harry said.

Before leaving the living room he whispered, "Observe," under his breath.

Deciding to be smart this time, he went to his cupboard before reading the information that he had gained about Aunt Petunia.

Due to realizing your past mistake and not falling into the same trap, you've earned +1 WIS!

Well, that was convenient.

After situating himself in what was supposed to be his bed, Harry finally looked at the text that had appeared in front of him.

Petunia Dursley

Lv: 29

Reputation: -3490

Due to your close relations with this person, you get to see one perk that this person has!

Perks: Jealousy

Harry was confused. Why did Aunt Petunia apparently hate him so much? Did it have something to do with that perk?

Realizing that the perks section of the tutorial was the next section he decided to do it in order to better understand what that meant.

Perks are traits that you get that can both buff or debuff your character.

Every 5 levels, you have a 75% chance of getting a perk. If you do manage to get a perk, then there is a 5% chance that it will be a bad perk, a 90% chance of it being a good perk and a 5% chance of it being an amazing perk.

To see your list of perks, say "Perks."

Harry did exactly that.

Harry Potter's Unique Perks:

The Gamer: Your life has turned into a video game. Whenever you go to bed for at least 8 hours, your body is fully restored.

Malnourished (Temporary): You are malnourished because you haven't been able to take care of your body. Your lack of the vitamins that your body needs causes all of your physical attributes to be reduced by half. This perk can be fixed after eating healthy for 2 weeks.

Green Eyes (Permanent): +10 CHA when talking to people that are attracted to green eyes.

Wabbit huntah' (Permanent): +2 defense and attack from/to beasts similar to rabbits or small game.

Boy-Who-Lived (Permanent - Locked): ?

Heir Potter (Temporary - Locked): ?

Lily's Blessing (Temporary - Locked): ?

Harry Potter's Magical Perks:

Healer's Touch: Gain +27% increase to any magical healing that you do!

Those were a lot of perks. What did the last two mean? Would he need to find out more about them before being able to see what they did? The malnourished perk also definitely explained why his physical stats were so much lower than his mental ones. He'd definitely have to work on that. How could he convince Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon to let him eat more food? Would he have to steal it?

You can get perks in any number of ways. You can get perks through levelling up, achievements, and more.

That made sense, Harry supposed. He had gotten that other perk from his first… achievement? What were those, anyway?

To learn more about achievements, go to the "Achievements" tab.

Was there a God or something that read his thoughts? How did this game know exactly what was going to happen next?

Harry suddenly realized that there was going to be a lot more "going with the flow" than he had thought there would be before continuing with the tutorial and selecting the Achievements tab.

Achievements are goals that are automatically set by the game for you! After reaching a certain point or doing something that is worthy of an achievement, you can get bonuses! Achievements can give you bonus EXP, titles, skills, perks and more!

Achievements will typically be inaccessible until you complete the first Achievement in an achievement sequence!

Your Achievements: Kill Your First Enemy!

Next Achievement: Kill 100 Enemies!

So he'd see more achievements that he could get after he did the first one that was related to it? That made sense, he supposed.

Hadn't he also gotten some items from killing the rabbit?

To continue the tutorial, go to the "Inventory" tab.

Harry felt his brow twitch in annoyance. There was definitely some sort of higher being that was doing this.

Higher being or not, Harry wasn't about to complain. Infinite power? He'd take a slice of that cake anyday.

He went into the inventory and saw that there was a gridlike box that had a bunch of empty slots in it with 2 slots filled at the top left, one with the rabbit pelts and the other with the rabbit tooth that he had gotten earlier.

Your inventory is where any items you get are stored. You do not need to open the inventory in order to take items out of it, even though this is a possibility. All you need to do is put your hand in any pocket of your clothes and think of the item you want and the item will come out. Yes, it makes no logical sense. Yes, it works. Yes, you can put food and snacks in your inventory. No, you can't put living beings inside of your inventory. Yes, you can put magical items inside of your inventory.

The rankings of item is as such:

Garbage, Meh, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legend.

Keep in mind that a magical item that is garbage can easily be better than a mundane item that is common.

To continue the tutorial, please go to the "Map" tab.

So his clothes were the lowest rank possible then? That was sort of insulting. Was that rank made just for his clothes or were there really items that were so rare and so bad?

Harry sighed. He looked over to his school bag and decided that now was a better time than ever to do the homework that was going to be due tomorrow. He realized from the sound of voices he heard coming from outside his cupboard probably meant that Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon and Dudley were eating dinner and that he was either forgotten or deliberately uninvited. Unfortunately, that probably meant that he would need to steal some of the food from the fridge during the night or that he would have to do so starting the next morning.

After finishing his homework later that night, Harry decided to check the notifications that he'd received from doing his homework.

Skill created: [Mathematics] - Lv: 1 - 50%: Your skill at math. You are currently able to do math at a basic level.

Skill created: [English] - Lv: 2 - 25%: Your skill at reading and writing in the English language. You are currently able to read and write at a basic level.

Achievement: [Create 5 Skills!] has been completed! Gain +15 EXP.

Harry thought that he had made good progress today and that he'd definitely be able to make more progress faster as he got more used to the game.

Still not getting called for dinner and noticing that the light under the cupboard had disappeared, he thought it safe to assume that his family had either gone to sleep or were watching television. As he didn't hear any voices or music, he thought it was fair to guess that they were asleep. Quickly thinking about whether he should take some food or not, Harry decided against it. He really didn't want to alert Aunt Petunia or Uncle Vernon.

It wasn't the first time that Harry had gone to sleep without eating

A/N: Hi! I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing this. I started writing this because I wanted to play D&D with some friends but then I remembered something that my not-friends that I talk to always tell me: "You don't have any friends. No, I'm not your friend, Tal, don't be ridiculous. I won't even miss you when I go off to college."

Yeah. So I actually roll dice for most of the things that happen. Harry almost got absolutely obliterated by a rabbit, such is the A) the luck of the dice, B) the sad part about starting off super weak. Don't worry, Harry won't be supremely overpowered by the end of the story and just decide to cast a single spell and enslave all of humanity with his overpowered gamer abilities, and no (or probably not at least I barely have any plans for this story yet) Harry will not have a harem. Not the biggest fan of harem fics, and I doubt I have the abilities to pull off a good one. Harry might even not end up with anyone, but who knows?

In the beginning, this story will progress slowly. This is because the "Gamer" ability is new to Harry and he needs to take time to get used to it. I'm not going to be having time skips that suddenly jump to Hogwarts. There will probably be a decent amount of chapters that have to do with the summer before Hogwarts. I've only written 3 chapters of this story so far, but I can easily see Harry only arriving at Hogwarts after chapter 10.

If you want to DM me about anything feel free, especially if it's relevant to this story!

Please review! I love reading reviews and receiving constructive criticism that helps me improve my writing abilities! If you have a good idea and send it to me, I might even add it! There is also a good chance that I will edit chapters as I write.

My goal is to write a completed Gamer!Harry fanfiction! I don't know if I'll be able to, but it is definitely something that I aspire to do. Also, I write for fun. I currently have 3 chapters of this story written, and will try to keep to a schedule.

Sorry for the long note, but it's the first one. Later ones will probably be shorter. Probably. Thanks for reading! I love you all and hope you stay happy and healthy in these times!

Next Chapter Release Date: May 21/22
