A Game of Fate and Magic

Chapter 4: Magic is Might

May 20th, year 1991

You have slept for a full 8 hours! HP and MP fully restored!

Harry groaned quietly as he woke up. His Sunday hadn't been close to being as eventful as his Saturday had been. He had been stuck in the house for almost the entire day doing chores, but each of the different activities he had done had been able to give him experience and he was almost at level 3 now.

EXP: 198/200.

He had also read for a couple of hours yesterday, and was glad that he was able to increase his intelligence by another point. He didn't really feel any smarter, but he supposed that even someone with a lot of knowledge wouldn't really feel smarter if they weren't able to apply that knowledge well to their situations.

After being rudely awoken from his beauty sleep (which also caused him to not regain all of his health interestingly enough), Uncle Vernon had immediately ordered him to work around the house for the entire day. He didn't even have time to investigate the rest of his findings in the box filled with his parents belongings, something that he was going to do right now.

After he meditated for a bit. He had woken up pretty early due to him going to sleep early last night. He only needed eight hours of sleep a night, so he might as well take advantage of that.

A good session of meditating later and the skill had levelled up, satisfying Harry greatly before moving on to his parents' belongings.

Taking the box out of his inventory, Harry opened it carefully before moving the things that he had already looked at. The remaining objects in the box were what seemed to be a folded piece of paper that didn't really look like paper, a beautiful ring and another smaller box. He took the letter first—it might give him an idea as to why all of this stuff was here.

He carefully unfolded it, not wanting it to rip, before looking at the very loopy handwriting that was difficult to piece out. He sighed. Why did people have to go out of their way to write in such a delicate manner when this letter didn't even look like official business? Sighing, he decided that he'd just read it.

To: Vernon and Petunia Dursley of No. 4 Privet Drive.

From: Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Master of Transfiguration, Destroyer of Elemental Magics, Practitioner of Defense Against the Dark Arts, Grand Sorcerer, Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards, and Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, it is with my deepest regrets and condolences that I must inform you of the passing of your relatives, James and Lily. In this letter, you will find the reason why I have sent young Harry to stay with you while the magical world falls into turmoil after the death of one of the darkest lords of the current age. While I wish I could visit you both to personally tell you this information, I believe that you would be adverse to my coming to see you. As you were aware of the wizarding war that we have recently been through, I'll save you most of the details. The relevant information is that Lily and James were murdered by Lord Voldemort while he was targetting their son and your nephew, Harry. Yet, as a contingency before Lily died, it seems as if Lily has cast a sacrificial ritual of some sort—one that I can't precisely identify—as a way to protect Harry from harm. I do recognize that it is likely something to do with the Evans' blood, meaning you, Petunia. As you are Lily's closest living relative after the unfortunate passing of your parents, Harry must stay at your home due to your blood connection. As astonishing as it is, he survived the Avada Kedavra, more commonly known as the killing curse in our world. His scar, in fact, is the very place where the killing curse struck. Due to Harry being the first to ever survive the killing curse and the only one to "beat" the Dark Lord Voldemort, as the Dark Lord has now died and this wizarding war comes to a close, he will most likely become famous in our world in a matter of minutes. His temporary defeat of the Dark Lord, for I do not think that whatever Lily has done will be able to keep Lord Voldemort from life, will cause him to grow with an inflated ego that would be bad for his upbringing. For Harry to be loved and nurtured in your house would be ideal—growing up without the fame and the fear of being attacked by any of Lord Voldemort's surviving followers. After quickly analyzing what Lily has done, I can assure you that Harry will not bring any harm to your home. Moreso, Lord Voldemort's followers will never find Harry because they will never think that he'd be hiding with muggles like , by living with you he will be as safe as can possibly be. The last reason for his staying with you is that both Harry's godfather and godmother are incapacitated at this time.

On Harry's 11th birthday, he will receive his Hogwarts Invitation Letter via owl.

I have attached with this letter some things that you should show Harry. They are some of the only few remaining things of his parents that survived the attack.

Please treat Harry with care,

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore.

Harry didn't know how many times he read the letter. He read it again, and again, and again, and again.

After a while, he put the letter down before lying back down in his bed, closing his eyes. He took a few moments to absorb all of the information that he had just read. He thought it best to go through line by line to make sure he didn't miss anything.

The first thing that immediately stood out to him were the many titles that this Albus person had after his name. People with titles were important, and it seemed as if this man was very important. One of the titles that he had was "Grand Sorcerer" so that meant he could do magic and was probably very good at it. Harry definitely did not want to purposefully antagonize this person.

The next relevant piece of information was that for some reason, Harry's relatives would not like it if Albus came to personally talk to them about what had happened to his parents. Well, knowing about Vernon's and Petunia's aversion to anything not normal, Harry supposed that it made sense for the man to stay away from them. It was definitely not okay, however, to send a baby with a letter that explained why said baby had to stay with them.

Did wizards not have any sort of common sense? Why would the man not come and tell his relatives about something as important as Harry's parents' deaths?

That also meant that Albus knew his parents personally if he was close enough to send Vernon and Petunia a letter talking about their deaths. How had he known them?

Only raising questions that couldn't be answered, Harry frustratedly moved on to the next important bit of information: a wizarding war. Harry couldn't even imagine how that would have looked like. Were there battle fields full of mages moving the elements to their whims and causing explosions wherever they went? How had the non-magical world not heard of this? He didn't remember there being any recent wars in his history books.

Then the most important bit of the entire letter: "Lily and James were murdered by Lord Voldemort while he was targetting their son and your nephew, Harry."

Harry stayed on that line for longer than he thought possible. This man called Lord Voldemort murdered his parents. But why had Harry himself been targeted? It didn't make any sense. After mulling it over for a moment, Harry realized that he must have been a threat to this so-called "Dark Lord Voldemort" if he had been targeted by him. How could he have been a threat to a super strong Dark Lord that waged a war in the wizarding community?

As he thought about the next line, he suddenly remembered one of the perks that he had. Calling up his perks screen he honed in on a specific one.

Lily's Blessing (Temporary - Locked): ?

Just as he looked at it, though, he suddenly got a notification.

Due to your finding out about Lily's Blessing, you are now able to see some of the effects that it gives you!

Lily's Blessing (Temporary - Passive: Unlocked - Active: Locked): While living with anyone that contains the Evans' blood you will gain all of these buffs: You will be immune to any type of scrying or divination magic. You will be immune to any sort of magical damage or harm. The property that you live in will be inaccessible by magicals that intend to cause you physical or magical harm.

After reading through the notification and the newly updated perk, he supposed that he almost understood a bit of Albus's reasoning behind leaving him with Aunt Petunia. This home might not have treated him nicely, but it definitely saved him from harm that could be a lot worse than other options.

If anything, he felt much more grateful for his mother than he ever had before. If she had cast what the Grand Sorcerer thought was sacrificial magic, then that meant that she had sacrificed herself, or some part of herself at least, to save him from his assured death from this dark lord.

Harry felt a sudden need to not let her sacrifice be in vain, even if he didn't really know his mother. If she had believed in him and loved him enough to sacrifice anything in order to let him live, he would at least honor her memory and do his best to make her proud.

Harry heard the ding of a notification but decided to read it later after finishing pondering the letter.

The fact that he had survived something known as the killing curse was quite the shock to Harry, and he was surprised that this Lord Voldemort had apparently died because of him. Well, it was more likely that the Dark Lord had died because of his mother's ritual, but he supposed it made sense in some weird way that Harry himself had brought the end of whatever wizarding war these wizards had been a part of.

The part that scared him more than he'd like to admit was the fact that Albus seemed to think that Lord Voldemort wasn't dead. Harry was now a bit more thankful that he had gained the protections from Lily's Blessing, especially after knowing that Lord Voldemort had followers that would try to hunt him down and kill him.

Honestly, if Harry had to think more about what Albus put in the letter, he might get angry. He was frustrated that he hadn't been able to know any of this before stealing the letter. He would've been much happier if he knew of his parents and knew about what they had done for him. He would've been happy if he could make the decision to live somewhere else. He supposed that it wasn't really Albus's fault, though.

Sighing as his spike in anger deflated, Harry wanted to cry. How was it fair that he didn't receive the love and nurture that Albus had hoped he would get?

Pushing back his tears, Harry had learned very quickly that crying in the Dursley household had very bad results, he did his best to be quiet. There was no point in crying over something that couldn't be changed.

By the end of the letter, Harry had even more conflicting thoughts. He hadn't even been aware of the fact that he had godparents. Who were they? Why couldn't they take care of him? While Harry supposed they might have been a worse choice safety-wise because of his Lily's Blessing perk, living with them probably would have been much better for his well-being. What happened to them?

That part made him feel pretty sad because it wasn't really that hard to deduce that something must have happened to them during this wizarding war. He was disappointed that he probably wouldn't ever get to meet his godparents.

Then looking at the next line caused his eyes to widen. He was getting an invitation to this magical school that the author of this letter was apparently the headmaster of? It had to be a good school if it was led by a Grand Sorcerer.

Unless the title of Grand Sorcerer wasn't really that big a deal. It did sound very cool though.

And his 11th birthday was this summer! Did that mean he'd get to go to this school at the beginning of the next school year? That sounded so awesome!

He was grateful that the man had given him some of his parents' belongings. They most certainly gave him a small amount of respect for the man, even if it did seem like he was a bit lost in his head due to sending a letter describing his parents' deaths to his aunt and uncle along with a baby.

Harry looked at the letter once more, thinking about whether he should write a letter to the man that had put him in this house before putting it aside. He had no way to deliver the letter at the moment, and he was sure that an opportunity to talk with Albus would come along later.

Looking at the rest of the items in the box, Harry curiously took the ring out. He looked at it for a moment, admiring the beautiful red and silver design along with what seemed to be the head of a magical creature, before putting it on. It felt pretty loose around his finger and he supposed that it made sense if it was his dad's ring. He flinched in surprise when the ring shined bright for a moment before it shrunk and fit onto his finger perfectly.

Harry felt something warm and… homely? Yes, homely, he decided. Harry felt something warm, comforting, and homely flow through his body and settle in the pit of his stomach. Not settle, Harry thought, but more like newly woken. He felt a sort of power lie in waiting in his body, and if he closed his eyes and focused on it, Harry could feel it lightly thrumming with an unnamable sort of energy.

Forgetting for a moment the power that had changed his life, Harry recoiled at the sudden appearance of the opaque screen in front of him.

You have put on the Potter Heir Ring! Because of this, you have gained the title [Heir Potter]! Your perk [Heir Potter] has also become active!

The Potter Heir Ring has accepted you as the rightful heir to the Potter line. Due to this, you will unlock the ability to use Magic and Magical Skills at level 3. An explanation of Magic and Magical Skills will become available after you become level 3. To access this information, go to the Options tab, then the help section, then the Magic, Magical Skills, and Magic Trees explanation.

Woah. That was a lot of information. After rereading it a couple times in order to understand what the screen had said he decided that he should probably cast observe on the ring.

Maybe he should have cast observe on the ring before he put it on, but hindsight is 20/20 after all.

Potter Heir Ring

Rank: Unique

Effects: +5 to CHA when speaking to anyone who recognizes what this ring signifies. +10% Reputation Gain with anyone that has ties with House Potter. -15% Mana Cost while casting any Potter Family Magic.

Description: This ring is the Potter Heir Ring that every Heir to the Potter Family gains when their parents deem them ready to become the Heir to their House. When the Potter Heir Ring is placed on a Potter, it checks if they are worthy of being the eventual Lord of the Potter's. If someone is worthy then the ring will shine brightly before fitting on the heir's finger, and the heir cannot take the ring off afterwards. Once the heir turns 17 or is emancipated, the Heir Ring swaps with the Potter Lord Ring. If someone that is not of Potter blood attempts to put the Potter Heir Ring on then… well, let's not get into those consequences.

Well, Harry thought that it would be safe to say that he'd be casting observe on every item he'd come across. He didn't want to try to put a piece of clothing on only for it to be cursed.

The effects of the ring were really good though. An increase to his charisma by five would probably be very helpful.

He then reminded himself of the other information that he had gained: he would be able to use magic! He would get to use magic so soon, in just a single level! Calling up his stat page to check the amount of EXP he needed to level up, he grinned.

EXP: 198/200.

By the end of this day Harry would be using magic and nobody would be able to stop him!

After mentally salivating at the thought of using magic (real magic!), Harry decided that he should move on to the smaller box.

He snorted lightly to himself. Why would anyone put a box inside of a box? It only added to his idea that wizards really didn't have the most common sense.

Opening the lid of the smaller box, he looked at what seemed to be shards of wood that lay over a piece of clothing.

Harry grouped all of the shards together before casting observe on them.

Shards of Lily Potter's Wand

Harry gingerly took the pieces of wood into his hands and gingerly began to try to puzzle them together to make what he assumed would be a wand. After about ten minutes of putting the wand together, he had what looked like three fourths of the wand pieced together before realizing that there were pieces missing. Disappointed at the fact that he wouldn't be able to rebuild the wand, he put the shards of wood back into the box and took the piece of clothing that the remnants of his mother's wand once lay on.

Grabbing what he now realized to be a cloak, Harry saw that it had a sort of greyish color that seemed to shift and sparkle slightly. Running his hand through the material, he immediately thought about how nice the cloak felt. It was smooth but rough, retaining a very nice texture when holding it. Yet, it was colder than he expected it to be. Actually, he felt a sort of chill in the pit of his stomach that caused his back to unconsciously straighten when touching it, one that wasn't comfortable or uncomfortable.

Harry was a bit skeptical at the idea of putting the cloak on immediately after his experience with the ring so intelligently decided to cast observe on it before doing anything else.

The Cloak of Invisibility

Rank: Unique

Effects: Makes your stealth increase infinitely unless you do something stupid. Immunity to any sort of magic that would reveal your location. Resistance to cold damage. Immunity to necrotic damage.

Description: The Original Cloak of Invisibility given to Ignotus Peverell by the Aspect Death. This is a part of the [Deathly Hallows Set]. More information can be found about this cloak after learning more about the history of the Deathly Hallows.

...what? What did that even mean? The original cloak of invisibility? This was the first cloak of invisibility? Wait, this cloak made him invisible!?

Harry quickly put the cloak over his shoulders and around his body and looked down, expecting to see his body. Yet, he saw nothing. He was invisible! Oh, the options that this came with! How did his parents even get to own this? Were invisiblity cloaks rare?

Harry was beginning to realize that him asking questions that would remain unanswered would become a trend in his life.

"Accept," Harry said with strength. At that word, the world regained it's color and Mrs. Ramlow smiled at him gratefully once more.

"Thanks for the help again, Harry. Could you go to the restroom and grab some damp paper towels so that you can wipe down the chalkboard? I'll finish grading the weekend homework assignments in the meantime. I'll grade yours first so that you can even see it before you leave for the day," Mrs. Ramlow said happily, grateful for Harry's help.

Harry gave out a little laugh, "Thanks! I'll be sure to ask how I did when I'm done cleaning up."

He walked to the bathroom before remembering that there had been a few things that he had forgotten to check earlier. Calling up his Stat page, he saw that where there had previously been no title, there was now a new one.

Heir Potter (Temporary Title): Gain 25% bonus EXP with anything related to Transfiguration! Gain 10% bonus EXP with anything related to runes!

Transfiguration? Runes? Harry had no idea what those were but assumed that they were related to some type of magic. Remembering that he had also gotten a new perk, Harry checked that over as well.

Heir Potter (Temporary Perk): Gain 15% bonus EXP with anything related to potions.

More magic? Harry sighed. He had no idea what any of those meant, even if he vaguely recognized potions. If he got something that let him beat monsters easier, then he'd have an easier time leveling up and he would also be able to get further in the dungeon.

Oh well. The RNG gods were at work and Harry knew that everything would come together eventually, for better or worse.

After a not-so-arduous fifteen minutes of completing his task of wiping down all of the chalk boards until they were sparkly clean, he grinned at Mrs. Ramlow. "All done!" Harry crowed happily.

She smiled back at him, "Good work. Thank you again for the help, Harry. You really are a lifesaver. Do you want to see your homework grade now?"

Quest complete! You have finished the quest "Help Mrs. Ramlow!"

Rewards: +10 EXP, +20 Reputation with Riley Ramlow.

You have leveled up! All stats have been increased by one point. You have gained 4 stat points!

You have become level 3! You have unlocked Magic, Magical Skill Trees, and the Magic Point Shop! Please go to the Magical Skills section in the Skills tab to learn more about Magic.

Harry mentally waved the message away and did his best to hide his inner glee before responding, "Yes, please."

She waved him over, "Come here, then. Let me just find your work," she began rummaging through the pile of work before realizing that she had graded his first and had put it at the bottom to easily access it. "Aha!" exclaimed Mrs. Ramlow, finally getting his work out.

Harry looked at the big fat red 95 that stood at the top right corner of the page in a circle. He preened slightly at the fact that he did so well. It wasn't even that difficult either! Maybe he should have worked on it a bit harder though, so that he would have gotten a perfect score.

You got an A on your Homework Assignment! Gain +2 EXP.

Wait… if he did well in class he could gain experience points? Harry made the fastest decision of his life in that moment, deciding that he would do his best in every class so that he'd be able to get more experience and become stronger. Plus, who didn't like learning new things? Well, other than the layers of the planet.

Harry really didn't understand why schools taught the weirdest things.

He looked through the homework, checking what he did wrong. He came upon the last question, circled in red. It was about some math that they hadn't gone over before. He supposed it made sense that he got it wrong and as he looked at it, he tried to figure out what his mistake was.

"You added instead of multiplied," Mrs. Ramlow said offhandedly. "You were supposed to multiply them together and you were supposed to get 81 and not 18."

Harry facepalmed and Mrs. Ramlow chuckled lightly, "It's alright, Harry. We all make mistakes. We're allowed to."

Harry looked at her skeptically, "Aren't mistakes bad? Isn't it better to just do good instead of making mistakes?"

She nodded her head at his statement, "Well, making mistakes is the best way to learn, isn't it? You aren't ever going to mess up that problem again or other problems like it, right?"

That… that actually made a lot of sense if Harry thought about it. Like, a surprising amount of sense. "So, making mistakes is good?" Harry wondered aloud.

"Well," Mrs. Ramlow said, elongating the vowel, "I wouldn't say that making mistakes are good, but they definitely aren't bad. By making mistakes you get to learn valuable lessons that you wouldn't have otherwise learned. In a perfect world nobody would make mistakes and everybody would be perfect, but nobody's perfect and it's only natural to make mistakes. That's why I think that if you make a mistake you should just go with it and learn what you can do better for next time."

Harry's mouth dropped a bit at listening to his teacher's words and noticed that Mrs. Ramlow's face got a bit red as she said, "Sorry. I went off on a bit of a tangent there, but to answer your question: mistakes aren't good or bad but rather what you make of them. If you take it as a learning experience and endeavor to do better next time then a mistake can be good but if you just complain about your mistake then it'll be bad because you're wasting the potential to become better."

Due to being taught an important life lesson by a teacher who actually knows what they're talking about, gain +1 WIS!

+20 Reputation with Mrs. Ramlow!

"Endeavor?" Harry chirped confusedly.

"Endeavor," Mrs. Ramlow said, converting back to teacher mode. "E-N-D-E-A-V-O-U-R. It means to try to do something or to try to reach a goal."

"Endeavor," Harry repeated.

"Yes," she said before smiling at him. "Now, I've kept you here long enough. Think a bit about what I told you, alright? It might just help you out later in your life." Harry noticed her mumble something, but didn't quite catch it.

Choosing to ignore whatever she had quietly said, Harry responded, "Alright, I'll think about it. I don't know if I get all of it, but I'll think about it."

"Good," Mrs. Ramlow laughed a bit, "you don't need to understand it all just yet. Thinking about it is enough for now. Now, head home. I'm going to be leaving in just a moment too."

"Okay! Thanks Mrs. Ramlow! Have a nice day!" Harry said before running out of the class.

Harry found himself sitting on his bench in the park shortly afterwards. Yes, it was his bench. He didn't see anybody else sit on it or even come to the park, so he felt safe calling it his bench. He didn't even know if he could call this place a park. It was pretty barren, after all.

Deciding to look through his notification log to remind himself of what he wanted to do, he decided that he should look at his stats first.

Name: Harry Potter

Race: Human

Title: Heir Potter (Temporary Title): Gain 25% bonus EXP with anything related to Transfiguration! Gain 10% bonus EXP with anything related to runes!

Lv: 3, EXP: 10/400

HP: 11/50

MP: 100/100

STR: 12 (-6) =6

VIT: 13 (-7) =6

DEX: 14 (-7) = 7

SPI: 21

INT: 18

WIS: 17

CHA: 12 (-5: clothes) (+5: Heir Potter Ring) = 12

PTS: 12

Money: 69 Pounds

Harry had to admit that he was pretty proud of his stats. They had increased a good amount from when he had first gotten this power. He didn't really know if the stats needed to be even, but he would have definitely liked the look of clean twenties all around. Also, that Malnourished perk was really doing a number on his physical stats. It also looked like it rounded the stats down, which was really unfortunate. Well, nothing he could do about it right now; he had already been doing his best to eat healthy, so it would go away soon, he hoped.

Harry looked at his twelve stat points. If he thought about it, he had already doubled his spirit while his intelligence and wisdom had also almost doubled. It was also obvious to him that he enjoyed spending his time reading, and that increased his intelligence anyway. That meant that he wouldn't have to put his stat points into intelligence because he'd be increasing that anyway. He didn't really know how to increase his charisma yet, but that didn't really feel as important because he didn't really see it visibly affecting him. He also remembered that a few of his perks increased his charisma as well.

He hoped that a lot of people were attracted to green eyes.

He decided to even out his physical stats because he worked on them much less often than he worked on his mental stats. He didn't know if it was a good decision to use all of his bonus stat points right now, but he was sure that he'd figure it out eventually.

His new stats looked like this:

Name: Harry Potter

Race: Human

Title: Heir Potter (Temporary Title): Gain 25% bonus EXP with anything related to Transfiguration! Gain 10% bonus EXP with anything related to runes!

Lv: 3, EXP: 10/400

HP: 11/50

MP: 100/100

STR: 17 (-9) = 8

VIT: 17 (-9) = 8

DEX: 17 (-9) = 8

SPI: 21

INT: 18

WIS: 17

CHA: 13 (-5: clothes) (+5: Heir Potter Ring) = 13

PTS: 0

Money: 69 Pounds

It was frustrating that his physical stats hadn't increased by that much even though he had put a lot of points into them due to his Malnourished perk, but he was sure that it would be worth it eventually. He hoped.

Harry nodded with a satisfied smile. He didn't really feel the effects of his changes yet but he was sure that they would come in handy. With that done, he decided to move onto the thing that excited him most about this ability: magic.

Magic is a powerful force that many races have access to. Magic has the ability to shape nature and more in ways that you are currently, and probably never will be, aware of. Any Magic that you use costs MP. Naturally, the higher difficulty of a spell the more MP it will cost you.

The Magic System of The Gamer Power works in unique ways. Three dies will be automatically rolled for you and each of them has a different purpose. One of them designates the next level that you will gain the next three dice, also called a Magic Roll. Another designates which type of magic you will be predisposed in. The third designates how many MPPs (Magical Perk Points) you gain. You can use MPPs in the MP Shop to buy new spells. Some spells have prerequisites such as learning other spells or having a checkpoint in your stats. Also, you can learn spells from books or teachers if you have enough intelligence points. If you learn spells from a teacher then you do not need to buy them from the MP Shop.

The 3 dice will now be rolled. Loading…

Harry read over all of that information twice in order to understand that. It made sense, he supposed. It didn't really work like his skills where he had to "create" or find them by himself and then use them a billion times to level them up but rather worked more like a shop where he could buy them. Or he could try to find a magic teacher but he had no clue where he could even begin to find one of those.

A huge number 3 appeared in front of his face, breaking him from his train of thought.

You will gain your next Magic Roll at level 6!

Right after that box disappeared, in a fasion similar to the first number, the number 61 appeared in front of him.

You are predisposed to Wind Magic! Because of this, you have learned the magical skill: [Air Push]!

[Air Push] - Lv: 1 - 0%: How effective you are at the spell Air Push.

Active: Push your palm out while channeling mana to release a force of wind that deals 1d2 (1 Two-sided dice Base Damage) + 5 (Spirit Modifier) damage and pushes an enemy back by 5 feet. Range: 25 feet. Cost: 10 MP.

Harry looked at the screen that superseded the place of the previous number and blinked a few times, needing to read it over. As soon as he processed the information that he had gained, he grinned.

Magic! He apparently knew how to cast magic!

The spell only did 1 damage but with his spirit the damage was 6! That was so much! And after doing some quick math he realized that he could cast the spell 10 times in a row without tiring out!

When he thought about the spell, knowledge suddenly coursed through him as if he had always known the spell. He somehow knew how to channel his magic and push. He knew how to use the spell.

Weird, but not entirely unexpected. Harry was sure that there would be much more weirdness to come with this game power of his.

You have gained 9 MPPs! Use this in the MP Shop to check what you can buy!

To access the MP Shop, go to the Magical Skills section in your Skills tab and then go to the MP Shop or think "MP Shop".

Just as Harry was about to do that, he heard a cursed brush rustle quietly.

Harry almost groaned out loud. Not again!

Harry sighed in annoyance as soon as he entered the dungeon. He had taken a surprising amount of damage from the rabbit outside and had snacked on some food.

He hadn't been able to use his newly learned spell outside in the… real world? Was the dungeon considered a real world or was it a pocket dimension? Well, either way, he hadn't been able to use his spell outside in case somebody had seen him.

Harry wanted to try using the invisibility cloak that he had inherited from his dad to try to ambush whatever enemies were in the first room of the dungeon. He had figured out from the couple of times that he had been there that there were either two or three of the Scary Squabunnys. He didn't think there would be more, but he wouldn't be surprised if there were. The game liked to screw him over like that. He had also learned that the monsters tended to hide near the entrance of the room, meaning that if he moved to the other side of the room he would probably be able to get more range on them and sneak attack them from a distance, forcing them to run towards him and giving him ample time to shoot out a few spells before they even reached him.

Carefully sneaking into the room, Harry looked around for the monsters that he would fight and found them, but he found things that he hadn't seen in the room before as well.

Two rabbits and two of the squabunnys.

Why did he suddenly have the desire to punch whatever God there was?

He noticed that the squabunny with the squirrel's head pointed its nose up into the air, smelling. Smelling! Of course the invisibility cloak wouldn't account for smells or sounds.

Luckily, the creature seemed to ignore whatever scent it had picked up on as Harry slowly creeped further into the room.

Was it dangerous to go further into the room in case he got too low on health? Yes, yes it was. In case anything went totally wrong, though, he could always use his Sprint skill's active to escape quickly.

After getting right to what he thought was the end of his spell's range, Harry hid behind a tree. The monsters wouldn't have vision of him if he was able to shoot them quickly enough and then hide again. Looking at the mini-map in the corner of his vision he noticed that one of the red dots that signified the monsters started to slowly crawl away from the rest of the creatures, and that was when he took his chance.

Harry peaked around the tree as he crouched low towards the ground. Slowly lifting the cloak over his hand, he aimed his hand as best as he could and bit his bottom lip as he focused. Suddenly, when he thought that he could hit the rabbit that had deviated from its friends, he pulsed his magic. A comfortable burn flowed through his palm as he pushed his palm out thinking about the spell he wanted to cast.

Harry could only look on in awe as the air in front of him rippled. Unfortunately, he had missed due to his lack of paying attention. As soon as he had shot the spell he covered his arm with the cloak again. Harry looked as the rabbit turned and looked around, feeling the air moving around him. Not seeing anything, it went back to doing its own thing.

Harry let out a quiet breath of relief at seeing that the cloak was doing its job splendidly.

Readying himself again for another cast, he took a moment before firing the spell off a second time. He quickly covered himself up again as the rabbit took the full brunt of the blow and was knocked away.

Hit success! You dealt 8 damage!

Rabid Rabbit 1 HP: -1/7

You have killed Rabid Rabbit 1!

Harry had to admit that he was absolutely elated at the fact that he had killed that rabbit in one hit. It got especially annoying when they went berserk.

In retrospect, the 9 points that went into his spirit last week had definitely done a world of good. Thank the RNG god for that perk that let him deal bonus damage to the monsters too. He wouldn't have killed the rabbit if it wasn't for that.

While he was happy that the rabbit had died, the rabbit's death meant that his comrades were eagerly searching for Harry and they were looking for their sweet revenge.

The squabunny that had smelled around earlier seemed to be the leader of the monster group and seemed to be the most aware of the general area that Harry was.

As the monsters creeped towards him, Harry slowly creeped away. When he felt his back hit the wall of the dungeon, he knew that he had no more space to hide. The monsters were already on alert.

Pushing his hand out from the cloak along with a pulse of magic and he had struck the squabunny that seemed to be the leader.

Hit success! You dealt 8 damage!

Scary Squabunny 1 HP: 1/9

And that was when the real battle started. After the abominations realized where the attack was coming from and due to Harry not being able to pull the cloak back on in time, they started dashing towards him. After quickly sending his cloak back into his inventory, the two squabunnies struck out at him while the last rabbit lagged behind. Harry let out a yelp as he realized that one of the squabunnies had bit him on the arm, while the other had clawed at his leg.

You've taken 1 damage! HP: 43/50

Effect: Bleed! Take 2 damage at the end of each of your turns until the end of combat.

You've taken 2 damage! HP: 41/50

Harry didn't know enough curse words to describe how much he hated the bleed effect. It was brutal. Maybe Uncle Vernon would be willing to teach Harry how to curse? If there was anything that the man would teach Harry it would be how to become a worse person.

Shaking himself out of his thoughts, Harry spread his fingers out as he moved his hand over to the squabunny that was still clutching his arm with its teeth and blasted it to its gruesome death with another [Air Push].

Hit success! You dealt 9 damage!

Scary Squabunny 1 HP: -8/9

You killed Scary Squabunny 1!

Now that the squabunny that was on him was dead, Harry tried to run away from the other squabunny, forgetting about the rabbit. As Harry passed by the rabbit, it swiped at him and Harry felt his untouched leg burn slightly from the scratch.

You've taken 1 damage! HP: 40/50

You're bleeding! You've taken 2 damage! HP: 38/50

Harry continued running away but the rabbit was able to catch up to Harry in time and lashed out at him.

You've taken 2 damage! HP: 36/50

Luckily enough for Harry, the squabunny that had been on him was too far away to reach him, giving Harry a moment to breath. Using that moment, he once again took aim at the rabbit that was next to him and sent a ripple of air flying towards it. Unluckily for him, the burst of air disappeared in a blur as it hit the ground next to the rabbit, causing bits of dirt and grass to explode everywhere.

Deciding that running away wasn't going to work a second time, Harry tried to brace himself for the blow he knew was coming from the dashing squabunny. As it jumped at him, Harry was able to just duck out of the way and right as he ducked, he put his hand to the squabunny's squirrel body and cast [Air Push].

The Squabunny went flying away with the momentum that it had already gathered from its missed jump, and Harry saw it crash into a tree.

Hit success! You dealt 9 damage!

Scary Squabunny 2 HP: 0/9

You killed Scary Squabunny 2!

You're bleeding! You've taken 2 damage! HP: 34/50

While Harry was distracted with the almost-dead squabunny, the rabbit lunged at Harry once more, eager to slice it's claws through his skin. The rabbit's aim held true and Harry shouted in annoyance as he felt pain pound through his arm.

You've taken 2 damage! HP: 32/50

Harry, fed up with the rabbit, grappled the creature under his arm and pushed his elbow into the rabbit's throat, as he put his hand to its face. A quick channeling of magic later and the rabbit was no more.

Hit success! You dealt 9 damage!

Rabid Rabbit 2 HP: -2/7

You killed Rabid Rabbit 2!

Combat over!

Rewards are being sent to your inventory.

Harry grinned as the fight ended. That had been one of the most exhilirating fights ever! Magic was so awesome!

Looking through all of the notifications that he received during the fight, he decided to check if any changes had been made to his [Air Push] skill. It had leveled up twice, and he had also killed some of the enemies with one hit, so maybe it had gotten stronger?

[Air Push] - Lv: 2 - 50%: How effective you are at the spell Air Push.

Active: Push your palm out while channeling mana to release a force of wind that deals 1d2 (1 Two-sided dice Base Damage) + 5 (Spirit Modifier) damage and pushes an enemy back by 6 feet. Range: 30 feet. Cost: 9 MP.

Mentally trying his best to compare the newer version of the skill with the older version, he realized that a few aspects about the skill had changed. The range that the spell knocked enemies back was increased by a foot, which could be very helpful in a dangerous fight in case he needed to knock enemies away from him. The spell's range had increased by 5 feet, a very good thing in his mind as he could cast the spell from an even safer distance, and the mana cost had decreased by one.

If the skill was level two, then that meant that each level increase of the skill caused the spell's mana to decrease by one point. Would that change as the skill leveled up?

Harry supposed that there was only one way to find out.

Calling up his MP, he checked how much remaining MP he had left.

MP: 28/100

That… he ran through his mana reserves much quicker than he thought he would. That was a bit scary. He still had a good chunk of HP left and he wanted to try to go to the next room of the dungeon.

Remembering the [Meditation] skill that he had gained the other day and it's active effect, Harry quickly did his best to stay as still as possible while trying to meditate. Despite a twitch here and there, Harry realized that meditating quickly wasn't really the best way to meditate, the skill's active went off without a cinch.

You have activated [Meditate]! Regain 25 MP. You may use this skill again in 24 hours.

MP: 53/100

While that wasn't as much mana as he liked to have, Harry thought that this was definitely enough to investigate the next room of the dungeon. He had been putting it off until he was stronger, and his newfound magic was definitely something that made him strong enough to continue.

Did he have a way to check how much mana he regenerated? After quickly checking his notification log and going all the way back to the descriptions of each of his stats, he saw that his wisdom was related to his mana regeneration. Deciding to take a chance, he called up his stat points and thought about his wisdom points and how quickly his mana regenerated.

Your mana regenerates at a rate of [Current WIS Value ÷ 2 per 5 minutes].

Well there was a good and bad side to this, Harry thought. The good part was that his idea worked! He now knew how much mana he got back every 5 minutes! The bad part was that he didn't know division so he didn't really know how much mana he actually regenerated.

With a frustrated sigh, Harry decided to look through his inventory for any food item that could regenerate either his health or mana. After scouring through his inventory, he came with a blank. He had eaten all of the food that he had taken from the Dursleys. At the realization that he would need to either make or steal food, he grumbled angrily to himself. While looking through his inventory, however, he came about an interesting sight.

Squa-Soup recipe Scroll!

Squa… soup recipe? What was that? Wait… soup? A squabunny soup? This was a joke, right? Joke or not, it would definitely be something to check out later. Maybe it even regenerated his mana!

After resting for 5 minutes, Harry didn't need to know division to know that 5 minutes was 5 minutes, his mana had increased to 68. Deeming this enough to enter the next room, Harry put on his invisibility cloak and slowly inched through the large archway that led him further inside the dungeon.

Looking into the room from inside the arch, the first thing that he noticed was that this room seemed even larger than the one before it, both in length and in height. The trees in this room were much bigger. Did that mean that bigger monsters would be in this room?

Knowing that some of the monsters tended to hide around the entrance to the room, Harry carefully walked further into the room before looking for the monsters. He had to hold himself back from vomiting at what he saw.

He saw an abomination of a being, and he could easily say that it was one of the most disgusting things he had ever seen. The monster, and Harry did not have any qualms with naming the atrocity a monster, looked to be some sort of combination of a squirrel and a dog. It made him want to retch. The thing was much larger than any of the other monsters he had faced, closer to the size of a medium-sized dog. It was mutated just as horribly as the squabunnys he had encountered earlier, though. Stitch lines criss-crossed along the beings body and droplets of blood oozed from said stitches in a viscous manner. It stood on a squirrel's limbs, while having the body of a dog. Weirdly enough, the snout of the dog wasn't a dog's but was rather replaced with the squirrel's nose, a disgusting creation.

He quickly cast observe on the monstrosity.

Snarling Squog

Lv. 3

Description: An even more hideous creation than the last ones. Yet, things will only get worse from here. After understanding that his mutations with rabbits and squirrels were a success and with his new knowledge of the squabunny, Doctor Frankenstein continued his research. The Squog, a mutation between a squirrel and a dog, is the result. Squogs are stronger than squabunnys by a large margin and fight best either alone or in a pair. Even though they are monsters, they retain a dogs loyalty and can become a man's best friend—if the man in turn is ready to one day become their snack.

Every second that Harry was forced to look at it was another second Harry wanted to put that thing out of it's misery.

Yet, Harry didn't do that yet. He was coming to be experienced with this very convenient yet also very disturbing game that was now his life and he knew that there was going to be something else in the room.

Harry kept on looking around, searching for anything that could be a monster until he heard a squawk and the sound of a squirrel coming from above him.

He didn't want to look up. If the sounds were coming from above him, then that could only mean that the creations could climb. But, a squawk was the sound that a bird made. Oh no. They couldn't, could they? Looking up, Harry saw exactly the thing that he didn't want to see.

These monsters were just as grotesque as the others. One of the monsters seemed to be a squirrel with a bird's wings attached to it while the other one seemed to be a bird with a squirrel's head and tail. How did that even work?

Swarming Squirdie

Lv. 3

Description: Doctor Frankenstein believed that squirrels could fly. Thus, he rightly gave them the ability to do so. Squirdies typically tend to group together in flocks of 2 or more, and become stronger the more friends they have nearby. While the squirdie is weaker than their level mate, the Squog, squirdies are much harder to hit due to their ability to fly.

In that moment, Harry actually considered asking Dudley if he could teach him more curse words.

Harry was lying down in his distinctly not-Harry-sized bed thinking about the fight that he had just had.

It had been brutal, to say the least. Because of his low dexterity, it had been very difficult for him to hit the flying squirdies. He had gotten a lucky shot that hit one of the squirdies thanks to his sneak attack, but he hadn't been able to hit the second one after that. He had tried ignoring the squog for as long as possible in order to take out the other squirdie but it hadn't worked. He had run out of mana just as he had reached 7 HP, a major no-no that caused him to do his best to escape the fight. He had literally needed to sprint out of the room in order to survive the encounter, and he was just lucky that the monsters couldn't leave their rooms in the dungeon. He definitely needed to remind himself not to rely on his spells too much at the moment because he didn't have enough mana to keep casting them for so long. He also needed to save enough mana for his [Sprint] skill's active, as it literally saved him from death.

At least he had gotten some rewards from it, even if they were reduced due to his running away. Better to live another day than die for some silly rewards.

Harry was, surprisingly, entering a routine. He had found himself checking through his notification log before he went to sleep in order to see what had happened during the day and to see if he had forgotten to do anything. Deciding to finally check out what that Squa-Soup recipe Scroll was, he took it out of his inventory.

Unsurprisingly, a scroll appeared. As he sat up he opened the scroll and saw that it really was a recipe. It described how to make a soup with the ingredients and drops that he had gained from the monsters. When he finished reading the scroll, a notification popped up.

You can not create Squa-Soup until your cooking level is high enough. If you attempt to create Squa-Soup before your cooking level is high enough, you will result in something that, while is similar to Squa-Soup, will have greatly reduced bonuses.

Well, greatly reduced bonuses were still bonuses, right?

After continuing to go back in his notification log, he realized that he had never actually read about how the Magic Shop worked.

The MP Shop is where you can buy new magical spells, skills, and perks with magical points! You are only going to have spells that you are predispositioned towards available in the MP Shop. This means that you are currently only going to be able to see things related to [Wind] magic in the MP Shop at the moment.

Current MPPs: 9

MP SHOP:

As Harry looked at the list, it seemed infinite. There were some really amazing spells on the list, like the [Tornado] spell that let him create a literal tornado out of thin air, and the [Wind Walking] perk that let him walk in air as if it was land. Yet, those cost a lot of MPPs and he needed to know a lot of prerequisite spells in order to learn really awesome spells.

Well, he certainly had his work cut out for him. Now, what should he steal from the fridge?

A/N: I am infinitely thankful for all of the views, follows, favorites, and reviews. Each one makes me want to write more and I am so thankful for all of you that you have taken the time to read this.

Not much to say about this chapter, I'm pretty happy with how it went even though I could still use some work with the fight sequences.

Another big shoutout to my friend Eric for helping me through the chapter and helping me develop and edit the story.

I have no idea when the next chapter will come out. There'll be a decently large time-skip to the next chapter and I have to work out all of the numbers by that time. Have a lovely day!
