Chapter 1
Disturbance
It was a normal day at the lookout. The only thing unusual about that morning was that instead of playing a game together, each of the pups was just hanging out on their own.
Then suddenly!
"Well it's true Marshall! One day when you're older you're going to have to be more mature and less goofy."
"Cut it out Chase," responded the usually calm Dalmatian angrily.
"It's just the truth," responded his opponent, an amber eyed German Shepherd.
"Would it hurt you to simply relax and enjoy yourself right now," retorted Marshall. "After all, there are no missions right now. Nobody needs our help at the moment," he added.
"I am, when we're not at work," responded Chase matter-of-factly. "The problem is you don't seem to get that there's a difference between worktime and playtime, or at least your general attitude would suggest that."
"Whoa, hold on there!" responded the other pups as they came over to see what the commotion was. As the others approached, Marshall looked up and saw his favorite husky among them.
"I'd forgotten Everest was visiting today," thought Marshall to himself.
"What's going on here," asked a folded eared bulldog innocently.
"I was informing Marshall that he needs to act more professionally while on missions, and leave his usual demeanor for our free time," stated Chase condescendingly. The other pups then burst into laughter.
"What's so funny," asked Chase.
"Chase, no one here acts that professionally, except for you," began a mostly gray furred mix. "So, you might as will be yelling at any of us," he continued chuckling. Meanwhile, a large eared, magenta eyed cockapoo walked up to him and whispered in his ear, "After all, we can't all be as mature as you Chase." This earned her a blush from Chase, who then looked back at the Mix.
"Stay out of this Rocky, this is between me and Marshall," asserted Chase.
"I'm not sure about that. I mean, given the situation, it sure looks like you're angry about something else," responded Rocky.
Chase, desperately wanting to get the other pups off his back, turned his head toward Marshall and hastily asked, "Would you mind dousing that annoying mutt for me?"
Rocky looked back at him, stung.
Chase, having realized what he'd actually just said, attempted to apologize, but Rocky just glared at him angrily and said, "No, I think it's clear what you had to say." To nobody's surprise, as he walked over to comfort Marshall, he was followed by his best friend, a chocolate lab. However, before he and his friend had gotten over to Marshall, the lab looked back at Chase and scornfully said, "I know you're angwy about something, but that was just out of line. You wely owe both Mawshall and Wocky an apology "
Almost immediately after, Marshall Rocky and Zuma were joined by a teary-eyed, angry looking Everest. The snow dog then looked over at Chase.
"What's wrong with his demeanor? Mine is barely different, and let me remind you, I'm older than you are," she spat at him.
Skye bent over to Rubble's ear, and whispered, "For your own good stay out of this."
"I don't quite understand what's going on," answered Rubble.
"I'll explain it later, or maybe Ryder might if you ask" explained Skye, who was secretly hoping for the latter, as she didn't want to see this spat go on for too long. She then took a breath and thought about the situation in front of her. On the one paw, she agreed with Marshall, but on the other, she didn't want to see her…the noble Alsation stand alone in this fight. Making her decision she trotted over to Chase and stated, "He may have a point you know," out of seemingly nowhere. Chase then turned his head over to her, surprised she had taken his side, but then his expression melted into a dreamy smile.
Skye then suddenly heard a bark she had never heard before. She turned her head up to see Zuma giving her a surprised but stern look. Then, all of the other pups, except for Chase and Rubble, the latter of whom had since teetered off, gave her a disappointed look. They were all about to say something when they heard and saw a familiar beep and flash of light from their puptags. This was, as was always the case, followed by the familiar call, "Pups, to the Lookout!"
