Author's Note: sorry if this sucks but I wrote this in 10min in the middle of the night. Don't know why I even posted it up. Oh well.. I didn't put any disclaimers for all the other fics that I posted so I'm putting one for this one.

Disclaimers: This does not belong to me. nothing does.

Tears threatened to overflow as I stared down at the thin layer of mist that hung above the Scrap yard. My left arm tightened its hold on the knife that I had dug into the side of one the pipes that lead to Tiphares to keep me from slipping. A cool breeze blew, gently caressing my cheek. Red-hot anger swelled up in me; so sudden it surprised me. They had wasted away all of Hugo's hard work, his pride, his integrity, his money, his hopes and finally, his sanity. They had forced him to work for them, promising him false hopes and dreams and they had ripped it away from him and tossed him aside once his usefulness was done. He had been a spine thief and robbed cybrogs of their spine to sell in the black markets. She had loved him enough to risk her job and her life; which she had recently gotten back after a long sleep. They had taken away everything she had. Hugo's smiling face appearing in her mind, pleasant and boyish. "Why? Why did they have to take you away from me?" Alita bowed her head, tears slowly sliding down her cheeks. A few weeks into her new life and it seemed like everything was perfect in the beginning. And then it started falling. The world that she knew tumbled down around her, and she was forced to run, to hide Hugo from the hunter-warriors. It seemed like she would drown without him, fall into the nothingness that she was in before she had opened her eyes to live again a few weeks ago. Alita gave a low sob, a strangled moan escaping her lips. She remembered when she first found out that Hugo was a wanted man for being a spine thief. She was confused, torn between her desire to help Hugo and her will to do whatever that was asked of her. "I see now, that's it you that means the most to me and I love you with all my heart and soul and with everything I am. I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe." Alita shook her head, tears blinding her. "But I didn't know. I didn't know that I had to save you from yourself." She wrapped her free arm around her own waist, her heart already aching dully, missing him. She could see his face so clearly in her mind's eye, like a photograph caught on film. The sun gleaming above the horizon, his hair waving slightly in the breeze and his eyes. his hazel brown eyes staring straight at her, full of anguish and pain, but also with love. for her. The image wavered and dissolved. Hugo's final words rang in her mind. "At least we had a chance to say." His voice had trailed off into an echo as he had fallen down, slipped from her hand and fallen through the mist into the rubble below, vanishing from sight. But not from her mind, her heart. Altia sighed, exhaling slowly. "Goodbye."
