Ms Bustier's morning lesson was rudely interrupted by the hazmat team bursting through the door.
"Wha-What is going on, who are you?" Ms Bustier demanded.
One man in a hazmat approached her. "Madam, we are from the Ministère des Affaires sociales et de la Santé. The government had issued an emergency lockdown. All persona is advised to be in their homes for the next two weeks."
"But we have until the end of class to leave."
"We received intel that one of your students have recently travelled to Italy. She's most likely be infected and could've infected the entire school. Thus, this entire school and all of you must be quarantined for the Coronavirus."
"WHAT?!"
Two people hauled Lila out of her seat.
"Lila Rossi, come with us."
"I'm not infected!" She wailed.
"That's for the doctors to find."
"My mother is a diplomat! I was going with her for official business!"
"The law of the French nation has officially issued a lockdown. So, if what you said was true, then you and your mother have broken the law and will be punished."
"Stop struggling, young lady. This is for your own good."
Lila managed to wiggle one of her hands free to point accusingly at Marinette.
"Look at Marinette! She's Chinese! She has it! She gave me it!"
"Miss Marinette will be looked at, along with everyone else in this school as you may have infected them."
"For the last time, I don't have Corona!"
"Your travel tales says otherwise."
"Now, for the good of everyone, keep quiet!"
Lila was hauled out of the classroom. In a matter of seconds, every person in the school was getting tested and the school was put in quarantine.
By 3 o'clock, Françoise Dupon was closed down and everyone was released into the courtyard.
The man in a hazmat suit approached Mr Damocles and Ms Bustier.
"Mr Damocles, Ms Bustier, we need to talk. Lila Rossi and everyone here, including you two, are negative for the virus."
The principal and the teacher sighed out of relief.
"Oh, thank god." Mr Damocles gasped.
"But there is a problem. We checked Lila's travel history. She never left Paris."
"You must be mistaken, she did. Several times." Ms Bustier insisted.
"We have immigration records of the airports in France, as well as private jets and the Italian embassy as she is the daughter of an Italian diplomat. None supported her 'tale.' Do you have the written notes to verify her absences with her parents' permission?"
"Uh..."
"You have nothing to support her alibi?
"Yes, we do! Miss Rossi gave us her word!"
"Her words?"
"Yes!"
"The word of a teenage girl?"
"Yes! What more do you want?"
"Actual proof that what you said she said is true and she is not manipulating you to avoid contacting her parents to check if her claims are true and she is not taking advantage by skipping her lessons and homework."
...
...
...
"Oh."
"Idiots."
"Now, see here, mister! You have no right to be rude!" Mr Damocles shouted.
The man in the hazmat suit remained calm and firm. "Sir, the world is going through a pandemic crisis and a teenage girl is taking advantage of it. I have everything to be rude."
Mr Damocles hung his mouth open.
The man turned his head. "Jacque! Contact Ms Rossi at the embassy. We need to clear this up!"
At once, Lila sprung from the crowd. "No, you don't!"
"Either we call your mother so everyone can go home, or we don't, and everyone stays here to be treated for corona under strict treatments. And it's all on you."
"...Go ahead."
"Now that you're here, I'm going ask you a few questions." He rounded close on Lila, making her dwarf under his steely gaze. "You visited Italy three days ago and got back yesterday?"
"No!" She exclaimed immediately.
He raised a brow under his suit. "That's what you told your teachers and friends."
"They're lying! They're all lying!"
"Young lady, there is absolutely no evidence of your claims and their claims. Either you're lying or your school is."
"Marinette told you, didn't she? She's been bullying me since I came here! She hates me! She's pinning this on me!"
"It wasn't your classmate, Marinette. Gossip about you has reached our department. Students talked about you to their parents who work with me. Those parents knew how serious the coronavirus is and once they heard you visited Italy when it was a hotspot, they immediately reported you and your school. And Marinette's parents are bakers, not doctors. And besides, Marinette hasn't travelled anywhere in the last 6 months. You're the only one in Françoise Dupont who has travelled recently and frequently. You're the only link."
"She's Chinese! She literally sweats the virus!"
"Technically, Miss Dupain-Cheng is half Chinese on her mother's side. The virus does not 'sweat' through her because her blood came back as uninfected and just because she's half Chinese doesn't mean she has the virus. You're Italian and your country has it much worse. Now, your big mouth and your immigration records, which is true?"
For the first time, Lila fell silent.
If she lies, she would get exposed as a liar.
If she tells the truth, she would get exposed as a liar anyways.
Better to stick to her usual strategy of defence.
"I have diplomatic immunity! You can't do anything to me!"
"I highly doubt that you would maintain immunity when word gets out that you infected an entire school while ignoring the dangers of the virus."
Jacque approached the man and girl. "Sir, her mother is coming. She confirmed that Lila Rossi has been staying at home for the days she claimed to be 'sick' and 'travelling' due to the school shut down for akuma attacks."
His boss groaned out of great frustration. "Seriously? How dense is the adults in this girl's life?"
He straightened himself up. "Have Mrs Rossi meet us at the gate to discuss her daughter's reckless behaviour and escort every teacher and the principal here for a much-needed evaluation of that girl."
With that, he turned his back on Lila and left, leaving her in the crowd of her fellow schoolmates she had deceived and imprisoned.
And they were all very angry with her.
"So, you're a liar all this time?"
"No, I'm not!"
"Liar!"
"This is happening because of you!"
"You gave us the coronavirus on purpose!"
"I don't not corona! Marinette does! She's Chinese!"
"But you're Italian!"
"There's a lot more deaths in Italy than China!"
"You're the one who left to all those places and brought the virus back with you!"
"Oh God, you are so racist and ignorant!"
"Stop being such fusspots! The government is making a big deal out of nothing! It's just a little cold. The leading scientist told me so, he's so impressed with my intell-"
"I can't believe you! You're making making fun of a serious situation!
"I have an uncle working as a doctor in China and every day, I worry for him! And here you are, taking advantage of it to make yourself big!"
"You are the cruellest, callous, most heartless person in this world!"
"You're a danger to everyone, infected or not."
"You're just picking on me 'cause I'm Italian!"
"No, we're picking on you 'cause you're a big fat liar!"
"Adrien!"
Natalie and Gorilla showed up, power walking straight to the crowd of children, looking for a golden-haired one in particular. Gorilla plucked Adrien out of the mass and carried him away.
"Come home right now!" Natalie never sounded so angry in all of Adrien's life. The personal assistant faced Mr Damocles and handed a piece of paper. "Mr Damocles, Mr Agreste is pulling his son out of this school, now. There is the official request on paper, signed by Mr Agreste himself unless you need more proof to convince your fickle mind."
Everyone reacted at once. "What?!"
"He can't! He promised!" Adrien cried.
"That was before news broke that your classmate has brought the virus to your school. So whilst in the lockdown, you are to continue your home-schooling. Your father will decide whenever or not you could return to public schooling, but it will be a private school." Natalie turned to Lila, not even hiding her smirk. "So, and Lila, you're fired."
"EXCUSE ME?!"
"You could've infected Adrien by how you're always touching him. A restraining order is on its way to you by next week. You are no longer permitted to be at 10 feet near him and you are also no longer a model for the Agreste brand."
"I don't have corona! Why won't anyone believe me?"
"Pff! After what you done?"
"Adrien!"
"Marinette!"
"Dude, no!"
"ADRIEN!"
The kids were standing horrified as they sadly watch their friend forcibly taken away.
"Look what you done, Lila!"
"This is not my fault!"
Lila flat out refused to admit the truth, infuriating everyone around her.
"Alright, listen up!" The man in the hazmat suit, the one who talked to Lila, the boss, he yelled for everyone to hear. "Everyone, you can go home now."
All of the people hurried to leave the schoolyard.
But the boss stuck an arm out to stop Lila.
"Not you."
"I never expect this to happen, but at least she got her comeuppance."
Marinette was saying while she sat on her crossed legs and her crossed arms over her chest, communicating with Adrien through Skype.
Lila was put in self-quarantine in a safe house as punishment for the duration of the virus outbreak, her access to technology and human contact limited.
On his side of the webcam, Adrien got nervous. "Yeah..."
Marinette frowned at Adrien's face. "Don't tell me you're feeling sorry for her, after what she's done to me, to everyone, to you? You're the one who said she's not hurting anyone."
"I just felt sorry for her-"
He stopped talking when he noticed how Marinette's hard frown had hardened even more.
"We took the high road and look where that got us. In lockdown and you out of school forever." She told him.
"This is normal to what I grew up with. How long will this lockdown be?"
"I wanted it to be over in two weeks or so, but with Lila on lockdown as punishment, I would be satisfied if the virus last until next year. Maybe it is a good thing that the school is closed for now. Hopefully for good. Talk to you later, bye."
And Marinette's face disappeared on Adrien's computer screen.
Adrien was left sulking in his seat.
Plagg hovered over his shoulder, remarking. "Kid, forgiveness is a good thing but giving the girl who ruined your life sympathy in front of another girl whose life she also ruined was not a smart move."
Adrien groaned and repeatedly banged his head on the desk.
