Todoroki Family Dinner
Or Endeavor tries to be Social

Part 1 of ? (Probably Two unless I once again alter my plans mid-way through writing)

It wasn't exactly a long or complicated day for the country of Japan, crime was always a daily occurrence but nothing major that required one of the big leagues. Just your average day in a superhuman society, so why was the new number one pro acting stiff as a board? In his own house no less.

Well, it could all be answered by the simple fact that tonight was a night that he had no real excitement for in the first place, he was no stranger to meeting new people in any way, and whatever opportunity presented itself for him to be a better father than he was in the past would make him jump for it. The reason for his anxiousness lied in the celebration of tonight's events, Shoto (his favorite) had found himself a girlfriend, this was a hot topic at the Todoroki household since the young man would always call his older sister three or five times a week. Each call beginning with a little catchup of the days events, consisting of dorm life, daily lessons, the antics of his classmates, and whatever Bakugo decided to murder that day, but here in the last few months the half and half male had started asking for advice to win a girl's affection.

Surprise was an understatement when it came to a descriptive word for Fuyumi's reaction, never before had she heard or seen Shoto give off any real emotion minus neutrality, sadness, or parent directed anger. Nevertheless, she was excited for him, happy to not only learn of his newfound friendships but to know that there was somebody who caught his eye for the right reasons. She certainly didn't expect to have them over for dinner so soon (it was more like three months after the relationship started but soon is relative), but it was welcomed.

The only real nitch in the plan however was Endeavor, the pro and his son were on shaky waters to say the least, it had gotten easier between them, but nothing exactly concrete in the reality of their bond. The pro was always glad to have a new chance to change that, but was afraid of possibly ticking off his son or having another awkward family get together after the last time with Natsuo, whom could not make this time around due to his own girlfriend arrangements.

Hoping this time it would be different, hopefully…maybe…possibly, he would certainly need help to be an impressive guest.

Speaking of which-

Location: Todoroki Household.

Time: 5:00 pm.

"How's dinner coming along dear," Endeavor asked; dressed in his more casual attire. Fuyumi was hard at work, preparing a nice dish to help compliment the image of her family that she wanted to convey, and to celebrate seeing Shoto again after what felt like years.

"It's going alright dad," Fuyumi spoke as quickly as she moved for the multiple cooking projects she had assigned herself, going a little overboard to say the least, as she went from the oven to the stove to the sink to the microwave to the dinner table, unfortunately for Enji, she spoke just as fast to.

"Well uh, that's fine and all but don't you think this is a bit much?"

"Definitely not it's been forever since we've had Shoto over to spend time with us, I have to make it as memorable and perfect as possible. Plus we need to make a good impression, I've never met this girl before, from what Shoto's said she's very high class and that means we need to try extra hard to look presentable!"

"Fuyumi, I feel like Shoto has vouched for us enough already."

"You're just saying that because you're nervous to meet her."

"…"

"S-sorry dad," Fuyumi frowned as she started to slow down in her pace.

"N-no it's quite alright."

"Do you uh, want me to just take over you take on an assignment?"

"No, I want to do this, I just don't want to cause another argument in front of one of his peers," Enji lowered his head solemnly, causing his daughter to halt her current tasks, slowly making her way over to him.

"Look it'll be fine, just a few stories and small talk here and there avoid some touchy topics, eat and then we all just have a good time."

"…I hope you're right."

"Me to."

"I just want to make a good impression for her and try to show Shoto I've changed."

"I'm sure you will, and besides he knows that."

"He doesn't really act like it."

"Well that's because it's still a pretty big wall to get over, he's not as openly angry at you, but I don't think he's ready to exactly bury the hatchet yet.

"I suppose you're right; I just need to give him time."

"Exactly, he'll come around," she slightly grimaced but smiled to reassure her father, 'I hope so anyway.'

"Maybe," a moment of silence accompanied his sadness, the daughter hoping to lift his spirit quickly with a new proposal.

"You want me to help you practice on being social?"

"That'd be good."

"Okay let's go over a few-RAT!"

"WHAT?"

"RAT OVER THERE," she screamed as she jumped back away from the small furry creature, who had invaded the kitchen counter, scurrying about quickly.

"Don't worry dear I got it," Endeavor pointed his left index finger, shooting a small fire bullet to take care of the rodent, only to miss as the rat oddly dodged, "Okay, now I got it."

He fires another bullet, only to miss again, "Hehe, *clears throat* I'm just kind of off today happens to everyone, but third times the charm."

He missed again, as his steam started to rise from his body, his temper rising to dangerous degrees, as his eyes gave his trademark death glare.

"Daaaad, it's okay, keep calm-"

"I am calm."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Okay, so just line up the shot and-"

He fired once more, same result.

"Alright just take another moment and try and predict where it'll go."

Endeavor fires another shot, it misses once more, the rat dodging swiftly.

"How is this rat this intelligent," Fuyumi questioned.

"Won't be that intelligent when I barbeque it's brains."

"I really don't wanna serve Shoto and Yaoyorozu a rodent for dinner."

"Then it dies," he mumbled, more steam begins to rise from the pro.

"Huh?"

"It. DIES," his flames ignite completely as he shot a larger fire ball, missing once more as he fires one after another, miraculously missing the pots and pans full of cooking food…too bad the curtains weren't as lucky.

"DAD YOU'RE BURNING THE HOUSE," Fuyumi panicked, it had phased her father but only to quell his shots as he began to try and catch it barehanded, shaking the house as he chased the rat, whilst Fuyumi quickly ran to grab the fire extinguisher.

Slowly a black vehicle pulls up to the front of the Todoroki household, the back right passenger door opens as Shoto steps out of the mode of transportation, once fully out he extends his hand to Momo who gently takes it as she steps out.

"Thank you, Shoto," she smiles at him, he reciprocates the smile as they both turned to face the house, allowing Momo to admire the traditional Japanese style of the abode, "Oh my, this explains how you chose to style your room."

"I just hope you find it as comfortable as I do," Shoto spoke as they closed the door behind them, the car then driving off back to the Endeavor agency.

"I'm sure I will," Momo asked as they walked hand and hand to the front door, "It honestly looks really beautiful."

"Thank you, I was kind of worried you wouldn't."

"Why?"

"I mean you do have a mansion."

"Yes, but I do appreciate homes with their own style and theme to them, Jiro's parents have their walls covered with music themed wallpaper and instruments."

"That sounds pretty cool actually."

"I know, I hope she invites us over sometime, although be warned her father is going to try and teach you whatever instrument comes to mind, I'm lucky I already knew the piano."

"Speaking of, could you teach me how to play?"

"Of course but why the sudden interest?"

"I've always found the piano soothing, and well…I just really wanna play with you sometime. You're really talented."

"Awww thank you that was sweet," Momo wrapped her other arm around Shoto's and placed her head on his shoulder, "And I'd love to teach you, I think you'd do great."

"Looking forward to it."

Soon the two found themselves at the door, Shoto breaking their pace as he stood still for a moment, unable to proceed forward.

"Something wrong," the raven-haired teen rose her head from his shoulder, turning to face him but kept both arms where they were.

"No, well *sigh* yes."

"Is it about your father?"

"…"

"I'll take that as a yes."

"I just don't want this night to go poorly, but I'm not sure if I can even be civil to him," Todoroki frowned, his anxiety over the situation mounting, not wanting to drag his sweetheart to the middle of his family drama. Especially since she was so excited to meet his family, Shoto having spoken about his sister and brother every now and again, but the underlying resentment of his father was an issue that had plagued him constantly in the days leading up to this. The teen tried to keep this hidden, but Momo being observant as she is picked up on it quickly, doing her best to ease his worries, he wasn't ready to share everything with her just yet; but he would someday, her embrace had a way of making him feel safe from the bad memories that would rear their ugly head now and again.

"I'm sure it'll be okay Shoto," Yaoyorozu rubbed his arm to quell his nervousness.

"I really don't want to get into another argument with him, especially in front of you."

"Are you worried I'd think less of you?"

"A little, we don't exactly have the best relationship, and it tends to get to me more than I should let it."

"Shoto…"

"I'm sorry if you see my more unsavory side tonight, I wouldn't blame you if you looked at me differently."

"Listen," Momo let one arm go from the grip and instead moved it over to grab his other arm, turning him to face her completely delicately spinning him as head rose up, "I know it's complicated between you two, but I know you'll get through it all someday, from what I can tell your father is trying his best to make up for everything that's caused your rift, and if he really means to stick to that then he won't try and stir anything tonight, instead he'll be trying to do better for his sake and your family's."

Shoto looked down, her words clearly syncing in as he tossed them around in his mind, "You really think so?"

"Yes, and besides," she leaned in to give him a quick kiss, the act catching him off guard, but comforting him all the same, "I could never think less of you."

Shoto smiled, his right hand escaping from her grip, raising to place it on her face, caressing it softly with his thumb, admiring her beauty and spirit, "Thank you Momo."

"You're welcome Shoto," she said as she turned to face the door, the half and half teen following her lead, "You ready?"

"As I'll ever be," Shoto slid open the door, confident that he could face whatever lay beyond it…that is until the sight that they were met with was one of chaos, on one hand you had Fuyumi putting out the mess of flames that threatened to destroy the house, and on the other you had Endeavor who kept chasing the rat that had caused such a fire.

"DAD WILL YOU STOP YOU'RE JUST MAKING IT WORSE!"

"THIS RAT HAS SULLIED MY PRIDE AS A FATHER AND A PRO, I WILL HUNT IT DOWN IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO!"

"IT WILL BE IF YOU DON'T STOP SHOOTING FIRE!"

"YOU TRY KILLING A RAT THROUGH NORMAL MEANS!"

"I HAVE ITS CALLED A RAT TRA-Oh…."

The elder sister had soon put out the flame she was fighting, this opening her up to seeing that her little brother and his girlfriend had arrived, looking fairly formal…and wearing expressions that spoke a thousand words of both worry and confusion, and minor embarrassment on Shoto's part.

"Um, hiiiiiiiiiiiiii," Fuyumi smiled and greeted as she slowly hid the fire extinguisher behind her back, "Welcome to our home."

Shoto cringed, and Momo gave a friendly albeit awkward wave with her free hand.

THUD!

Endeavor landed on his stomach in front of his daughter, holding up both of his hands the rat being in between both of them.

"I DID IT! I CAUGHT THE RAT!"

'This is going to be a long night,' the scarred teen thought in defeat.

"So whose ready for dinner," Fuyumi asked enthusiastically.

Author's Note: I hope I did good on this one, last time i tried to write for Endeavor I kind of screwed it up and it left a baad taste in my mouth, which is why im making him the real focus of this story and can't wait to do more with him in chapter 2, which i pray I finish soon instead of taking as along as i did with stay and watch the snow.

Hope you guys enjoyed this one, and pls comment to share your thoughts on this first chapter and hopefully i'll see you in the next one, take care out there!
